View Full Version : MeGUI: bug reports and feature requests

Is that already on the to-do list of the MeGUI developers?
I wrote that some hours ago in the feature request tracker:
A few words about feature requests in general from my point of view. There are many feature requests mentioned in the tracker which would be a great addition to MeGUI. So why am I not implementing those requests? Time and interest. Because of my limited time I implement more or less only things I need for my "work" with MeGUI or things which can be done easily. I am not implementing things to please someone. If you want to push a specific feature please provide a patch for it.
As a result I have no to-do list which I want to share.

Interesting request. I just did a quick test and it does not work for me if I disconnect the session (cuda init error). I have to logon locally to get it to work. Therefore I assume it cannot work as intended.
Ah well, I thought it might be a long shot.
Thanks for testing!

The MKV Muxer does not pick up DTS audio tracks. I tried 3 times and the audio was left out of the MKV file. I ran the same audio track with mkvmerge GUI and it was muxed in.

yes, pretty easy to add. I just need some free time to do that.

Thanks...your dts files are not included in the mkv because MediaInfo is not able to retrieve information from them.
How did you create them ? Could you upload a sample somewhere ?

I had a feeling that was it. I used an old external encoder with MeGUI's HD Stream Extractor. Right now the track is over 1 gig. So I've got to figure out a way to shrink that or find a small enough wave file to process.

Here's a sample. It's just 2 seconds long but it meets the upload requirements.

Your sample is a dts 14 bits Big-Endian, used to make a dtswav to be burned in CD and play surround.
The easy way to convert in a standard 16 bits is load in MkvMerge to make a .mka and after extract the dts.
After that the dts is recognized like:
DTS, 5.0 channels, 0:00:02, 1235kbps, 44.1kHz
(only the center channel have sound in your sample, the rest are empty)
EDIT: BTW, MediaInfoGUI recognize your small sample without changes like:

I've noticed in my tests that if I have Mpeg4-AVC as the source and encode to another format then I can use change the FFMS Thread count to 3 which gives me a speed increase of about 30% (using more threads does not increase by much more). Unfortunately using Mpeg4-ASP as the source then the resulting file gives an error when played.
Can you maybe include a way to preselect this so that it uses default 1 thread for Mpeg4-ASP and X threads for Mpeg4-AVC?

@ tebasuna51:
14 or 24 bit?
Is not the bitdepth of audio samples (a lossy format don't have bitdepth), is the valid bits in each word (16 bits).
The dts in a dtswav have the two high bit's of each word always to 0 to avoid speaker damage if is played like a wav PCM. The size of this 14 bit DTS is greater than the equivalent standard 16 bit DTS.

When I'm converting MKV [HQ version] to MKV [MQ version], its add the softsub but it ignores the font which are included in MKV. Is there any way for MeGUI to add fonts too.

Hi. I have a problem as I can not disable option "Normalize Peaks to" in audio configuration dialog. I clear the checkbox and click on Update but, if I reopen configuration dialog "Normalize Peaks to" is checked again. Also, If I uncheck "Apply Dynamic Range Compression" it also disable Normalization. But this time both option stay disabled. The thing is I just want to disable normalization.
MeGUI version is 2341.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say they are interdependent. My thinking would be, how can you apply dynamic range compression to a track that is not normalized to a known value?

Is possible check "Apply Dynamic Range Compression" and uncheck "Normalize Peaks to", but is not stored like that because is not a recommended option.
If you use DRC without Normalize you can finish with a low volume audio (-16dB with Film Standard DRC).

The "Apply Dynamic Range Compression" here means use the AC3 decoder with this option enabled.
The decoder apply the DRC values stored in the AC3 stream (if there are this values), don't make any analysis over the signal volume values.

I am using MeGUI version 2341
I am expecting megui core update which contains the new features of the new x264.exe.
For example, --opencl, etc...
And in Nero AAC configuration dialog,
Apply DynamicRange Compression checkbox and Normalize Peaks to checkbox
There is a bug related to these checkboxes
Finally,
Version of the qaac component of megui is 2.17
But there is qaac 2.18
It can update.

Not every available option in x264 is available in the GUI. I do not see a need for opencl at the moment. It only works with specific hardware combinations, needs more PU power and has worse quality (and you can add it in the custom command line if needed). What other options are you missing?

r2284: Add slices-max feature
r2283: Add slice-min-mbs feature
I can not find slices-max and slice-min-mbs options in the GUI.
Which bug?
Let "Apply DynamicRange Compression checkbox" = "adrcc"
Let "Normalize Peaks to checkbox" = "nptc"
Let Normalize Peaks to value box = numericUpDown1
The bugs are:
1st:
when you click Nero AAC: *scratchpad* Config button you can see numericUpDown1.Enabled = true and nptc.checkstate = uncheched at the same time.
if nptc.checkstate = cheched then, numericUpDown1.Enabled = true. This is ok.
if nptc.checkstate = uncheched then, numericUpDown1.Enabled = false. This is ok.
solution: When load the dialog, nptc.checkstate = uncheched and numericUpDown1.Enabled = false.
2nd:
when adrcc.checkstate = cheched then, automatically nptc.checkstate = cheched
when adrcc.checkstate = uncheched then, automatically nptc.checkstate = uncheched
this situation shows us they are bounded
but when
nptc.checkstate = cheched then adrcc.checkstate = uncheched
when
nptc.checkstate = uncheched then adrcc.checkstate = uncheched
nptc.checkstate does not affect on adrcc.checkstate
they are bounded? or not bounded? I can not decide.
3rd:
I think it is effect of 2nd.
when you click Nero AAC: not *scratchpad* Config button
I set
adrcc.checkstate = cheched
nptc.checkstate = uncheched
and save it in not *scratchpad* profil
then, when I click config button again
I see that
adrcc.checkstate = cheched
nptc.checkstate = cheched
this is the last bug
Note that, these bugs may also be in all other audio configuration dialogs.

ok, I understand what you mean.
But,
when you uncheck "normalize peaks to" then "apply dynamicrange compression" checkbox should be unchecked automatically. Isn't it?
No. DRC does not depend on peak normalization. In general, it can be applied to unnormalized samples; whether the result sounds convenient, is another topic.
When a Dolby Digital source with integrated dynamic range metadata is processed, "Dynamic Range Compression" is applied in the AC3 decoder, using the DRC metadata in the AC3 stream, without analyzing its volume range. Read the documentation of the Azid decoder, if you can still find it, or the help files packaged with BeSweet based converters (BeSweet used a DLL version of Azid).
Peak normalization would be applied to the decoded PCM audio afterwards, and requires a 2-pass process (a first pass finding the peak volume, a second pass multiplying the whole audio with the matching factor) to avoid volume pumping known from 1-pass techniques (owners of 80's Music Cassette tape recorders may remember the AGC = Automatic Gain Control). BeSweet did that in its OTA Post-Gain feature.
If a separate dynamic range compression was applied, independent of the audio source format (e.g. using a "Compander" = compressor/expander filter), then a pre-normalization may be suitable, but it could be implemented independently just as well.
BeSweet uses a very simple numerical sample-based compressor in its "Boost" feature (which will distort the sound with harmonics, which some may, others may not like). Typical compander filters in music software will use a rather linear amplifier instead with a lookahead window to adapt its factor; choosing inappropriate response and decay durations may lead to daft (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGBhQbmPwH8) music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkceWDkqSak) ... ;)

1. I find the megui oneclick folder queue handling a bit strange and unexpected esp. in comparison to the more intuitive handbrake gui method: After adding a folder all files contained are added to the queue just like queuing them manually one by one. The advantages are that you are able to see what's queued and can remove individual items if needed - plus the whole queue wouldn't stop on any error encountered like it seems to be now (like ffmsindex or mp4 demuxing failure)
2. I'd like to link the post with the ffmsindex wmv problems here - sorry, didn't know about the three exisiting megui threads: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1626860#post1626860
As I read ffmsindex isn't advised for wmv but it seems to work anyway, so the problems I'm encountering are either...
a) "just" a megui problem of handling ffmsindex error return codes and megui thinks it has failed when it really hasn't or...
b) ffmsindex really doesn't work on wmv reliably, in this case it'd make sense to use another input method like directshowsource in oneclick?
3. Last imho an option to *append* a custom string to the oneclick "Project Name" would be nice, the current "Leading" isn't as easy to sort with the original files.

Actually when you first select the AVC Profile and then select the AVC Level after that it works correctly. But when you already have choosen the AVC Level and then choose the AVC Profile after that, then it will be messed up, the VBV restrictions do not get altered accordingly then.
Thanks - fixed

So, for CRF allowed values are between 0 and 51 and for QP allowed values are between 0 and 69. And not between 0 and 64 like it is currently.
Thanks - fixed.
Well, it looks like "DXVA" and "iPhone 4S/5, iPad 3/4/mini, WDTV" share exactly the same settings. So "DXVA" probably could be merged in there as well.
No, they are different. DXVA is not limited in terms of resolution. The other is limited to 1920x1080.

Although i do not understand why you haven't added the MOV container / .mov filename extension to "All supported encodable files".
Still on the list but no time. I consider that a feature request. I plan to remove all special file type selections in that file open box. Instead you can select all files and depending on the MediaInfo the file will be processed.
DXVA - sorry, no clue. Need time to investigate and guess what is limited...?
I just tried to encode a 2560x1440 video with the "iPhone 4S/5, iPad 3/4/mini, WDTV" setting.
But the resolution was not limited to 1920x1080. It encoded at 2560x1440 just fine.
The only thing that happened was a warning in the log:
But nothing else.
Is that a bug?
Or what did you mean with "limited"?
In OneClick it will be limited. In AVS Script Creator in cannot be limited as at that time the video encoder profile is not known (or can be changed afterwards). In that case a warning will appear.

Please have a look in the megui\log folder. There must be an intermediate log file - post the complete file. Please update to 2349 (development server) before.

Hi. I have a problem with MeGUI and One-Click encoder. For some reason when I set audio codec to "encode if codec does not match" QAAC profile, but codec does match (sorce is AAC-LC) MeGUI assumes that, after demuxing, raw aac stream is always SBR when it tries to mux it to mkv container even if stream is AAC-LC.

MKVMerge detects this for raw aac files automatically. Currently MeGUI does not override this detection. Please upload a sample file and I will have a look at it.
EDIT: MeGUI detects it also - investigating your source file...
