I think there is a small chance that it will work with 4.0. So far I've not found more details about it, he mentioned it requires the next Windows point release, as far as I know it's called the creator's update and the release is scheduled for this or next month.

I've been using MeGUI and found the one-click profile really helpful. One thing I noticed was that when transcoding audio e.g. FLAC -> AAC within video files, it doesn't retain attributes such as audio title name or language in the new video file with the transcoded audio. I'm not sure if the same happens with video but it does with audio.

Is it possible to make it so the attributes/metadata of the original audio stream are also transferred to the transcoded stream?

This would probably require

a) a common way for many audio formats to read out such metadata in a similar way (does MediaInfo support that?);
b) support of the target container to store such metadata per stream; MeGUI is mainly a converter for media formats containing video, using container formats to keep sync with audio.

IMHO: If you want to convert audio only, without related video stream, an audio-only converter like BeHappy (based on the same AviSynth engine as MeGUI) would be the better tool to possibly create metadata in a target audio-only format.

BeHappy, or Audio section in MeGUI, can't do the job because AviSynth audio decoders ignore any metadata tag's in audio source.
I recommend Foobar2000 to transcode audio only preserving tag's.

Other cuestion is track attributes, like title and languaje, than can be stored in mkv container.
Then, maybe, a one-click recode from mkv to mkv can read title and languaje with MediaInfo and restore the values in MkvMerge last pass.

AviSynth alone may ignore such metadata; but I wonder if it could be read by the calling application using a MediaInfo DLL, and then added to the CLI encoder's parameter set.

Maybe MeGUI, not BeHappy because don't use MediaInfo at all.

BTW is a hard job know all metadata tag's than each audio code can support at input source (and what are reported by MediaInfo), and how convert to metadata tag's supported by output code.
This job is already done in Foobar2000, lets MeGUI for other questions.

EDIT:
And not all encoders have the parameters to include tags, Qaac can use:
--album <string> --band <string> --title <string> --track <number[/total]> --artist <string> --date <string> --comment <string> ...

But NeroAacEnc don't have any parameter for that.
Using NeroAacEnc with Foobar2000 the tags are added after the encode automatically.

MeGUI 2706 is still displaying incorrect resizing in the script creator when anamorphic encoding is enabled.

- Open a 4:3 PAL DVD, Input DAR 4:3.
- Without cropping or resizing enabled, the resize section displays 720x576.
- Enable cropping and crop 20 pixels from both left and right, and 16 pixels from both top and bottom.
- The remaining video is 680x544
- Enable anamorphic encoding, and select "encode non-mod16" (silly name). The resizing now displays 640x512. It's not being added to the script incorrectly though.
- The "resize to selected mod" option at least lets you resize it back to 680x544, and the resizing doesn't change to red until it exceeds 680x544, so that's okay.

Oddly, if the "resize to selected mod" option is selected, and you switch to "encode non-mod16", the width in the resizing field very briefly displays 680, before it changes back to 640 again.

Thanks, I have fixed that in my local branch. I you have better name for "encode non-mod16" I love to hear that.

The problems with this are because eac3to bugs, not related with MeGUI.
There are 2 kind of EAC3 tracks: without core (see track 2 in log) and with core (track 3).

The correct way to extract these tracks with HD Streams Extractor is the showed in the attached image.
Track 2: Extract As: EAC3 [if you add -core is ignored] -> The output is a EAC3 stream.
Track 3: Extract As: EAC3 +Options: -core -> The output is a AC3 stream even with extension .eac3.

You can decode/recode Track 2 (Other value in Extract As)
Any attempt to decode/recode Track 3 without the -core parameter can finish with a ERROR.
You can decode/recode only the core of Track 3.

Now the same tracks in mkv container.

The unique option with these tracks in mkv container is extract them.
We can ignore the eac3to messages:
Bitstream parsing for tracks 2 and 3 failed. <WARNING>
Demuxing these tracks may still produce correct results - or not. <WARNING>
The outputs are bit-identical to obtained with mkvextract.
Can't be decoded, or recoded or extract the core of track 3. Only extract as is.

The problem is: MeGUI - HD Streams Extractor don't offer the option Extract As: EAC3
All options than offer don't work at all.

Nope. Default must be eac3, but you can add always the -core most the times ignored:

TSMuxer seems to be able to extract the full E-AC3, don't know how easy it is to implement and 2nd tool into an eac3to feature.

The main problem with this kind of E-AC3:

(core: AC3, 5.1 channels, 448kbps, 48kHz, dialnorm: -27dB)
is if there are a free decoder than can decode the full E-AC3 (7.1), is usseless extract it full if only can decode the 'core'.

By the moment ffmpeg only can decode the 'core':

I've just updated to MeGUI 2714 from the Development Update Server.

Now, when attempting to use the File Indexer tool (or AVS Script Creator) with any of the available indexers (DGIndexIM, DGIndexNV, FFMSIndex, L-Smash Works) I am getting this fatal exception when starting the queue job:

Well since booting my PC today I haven't encountered the issue again, as yet. So I'm not sure what caused it. I just know that after the fatal error first appeared (and I can't recall with what input file) I got the same error with every video file I tested (except avi). What does that kind of error normally point to ?

Yes, I tried just that kind of E-AC3 with TSMuxer. It gives out an .AC3 file that is bigger in size than core and bigger than the useless one (recode from core to 640).
Mediainfo seems to be unable to see it as 7.1, but if I run eac3to on it it reports it to be E-AC3 with core.

DGDecodeNV.dll may now use AviSynth 2.6 headers to be compatible with AviSynth+. But not sure if that causes issues on AviSynth 2.5.x with exactly this error message.

DGDecodeNV.dll is a 2.6 plugin and has been since r2052. However, AVS+ works with 2.5 plugins, there is no compatibility issue.

That error message is exclusive to Avisynth 2.5.x.

Please remember that indexing a keyframe-only AVI is not recommendable, it will take ages and produce huge index files... handling AVI files with little or no compression should really prefer AviSource.

BUG:auto-detect display aspect ratio will still take effect even choosing the "keep input resolution" option, and "display aspect ratio" is in gray.

I use one 720x480 DVD VOB source, and use avisynth profile to crop the borders, and resize to 640x480, (keep input resolution is in check and display aspect ratio is in gray),but it will still produce a wrong ratio, 16:9.

when check off the "keep input resolution" ,and modify the display aspect ratio to 4:3, then check on "keep input resolution", it will be correct 4:3.

please fix this problem.
this problem did't happen in build 2680.

Hello everyone, I am looking for help to decide which values I have to set to convert my SVHS-AVI PAL video files to MKV thru MEGUI from a size point of view. My target is Smart TV player (or Android box tv or PC) and I would like to see these files as 16:9.

Source files are SVHS-AVI PAL, 720x576, 5:4, interlaced, 25FPS, acquired with VirtualDub/HuffYUV (no filters), color space YUY2, audio is PCM (48kHz, 16bits, 2 channels).

I have to crop the bottom because of SVHS noise and thru AVS script interface I crop 18 at the bottom and resolution parameters shows to 712x552; then I changed input DAR from 5:4 to ITU 4:3, but when I played on Smart TV was showed with black bars. If I use Input DAR ITU 16:9 the I see it as 16;9 on Smart TV player. May you would suggest best values to use ? Should I use ITU 4:3, ITU 16:9 or stay with 5:4 ?

It's indexing the same material on the same drives with the same indexer. I have 10 episodes ripped, and alternating down the line (to avoid caching), MeGUI calling DGIndex far slower than using DGIndex's GUI. No audio, no demuxing.

Now I see the differences you mean ... between CLI mode and interactive mode on the same machine each. Now that's interesting. I wonder if it might be related to MeGUI capturing the CLI output.

And this reminds me on the discovery that the updater advances a lot faster when you hold a mouse button while it progresses. As if there is a lot of useless idling in .NET GUI's, and flooding the event loop with mouse events pushes it.

MeGUI searches at start for a second process with GetProcessesByName() which is using the same file path. So FRAPS seems to report wrong information for that function.
