Hello,

MediaInfo version 0.7.34 is out for some time, but there are still 0.7.33 dll's on MeGUI update server. When will the version 0.7.34 be out for MeGUI?

when i updating to MeGUI latest version i got a error message like this

what is mean of this?

The problem is that the MeGUI build running during the import cannot import the profile because settings have been added / changed. The workaround would be to update MeGUI to the latest build without updating the profiles, start the new build and update the profiles.

@WorBry: SAR option added with predefined values for common resolutions/aspect ratios.
if that's not enough i can add a textbox to add a custom SAR... but i think it wont be necessary.

I was wondering how this new option is different from the avisynth signaling that can be done using megui's script creator? Is there a difference between the two or is it just another way to to adjust the ratio after resizing?

Thanks!!!

there still seems to be a small issue with the file indexer with AVC in MKV files.

once you open up a MKV with AVC in the file indexer all the DG indexing options are ghosted out but FFMSIndex is not selected.

http://i31.tinypic.com/359l1mo.png

as you can see down at the output file that it's still trying to use DGIndex to index the mkv, so if you blindly click queue it will not index.

Thanks. 0.7.33.1 in MeGUI is 0.7.32 because 0.7.33 introduced a problem with raw stream detection. It seems to be fixed in 0.7.34.

When will the version 0.7.34 be out for MeGUI?

Now :)

Just wanted to stop in and say thanks to the devs again. Noticed the new bitrate calc a couple weeks back and thought I'd shoot up some confidence and feelings of appreciation again. So thanks a lot guys, many of us really appreciate it!

Has anyone else noticed that with the latest version of Mediainfo (0.7.34) it is taking quite a bit longer to open elementary streams in File Indexer, compared to 0.7.32 (M2V's in particular)? Seems to be taking up to 20 seconds on my system, whereas 0.7.32 was more or less instant.

Maybe it's the same slow loading issue I reported recently, that what fixed in 0.7.35beta.

Yes, the 07/18 development build of mediainfo fixed the problem with m2v files.

Love the new SAR control! May I ask for two more common sar values for the drop down? I'd love to have 8:9 and 32:27 for NTSC DVDs which do not follow the ITU-R BT.601 standards (4:3 and 16:9, respectively).

Also, it's just a cosmetic thing, but weighted P-frame prediction should be greyed out when baseline profile is chosen.

WorBry
23rd July 2010, 05:00
In that case, adding a textbox to set custom SAR values might be a better option, as the list could go on.

......SAR option added with predefined values for common resolutions/aspect ratios.
if that's not enough i can add a textbox to add a custom SAR... but i think it wont be necessary.

I am trying to recode ac3 or dts 5.1 audio track to a stereo aac. Using either FAAC or Nero, selecting downmix to stereo the resulting file is an aac or mp4 file with 5 channels.

Attempting the same task using the winamp aac encoder results in an error and aborts.

I can do the conversion with ffmpeg on a command line:

ffmpeg -i test.ac3 -ac 2 -ab 96000 output.aac

and it seems to work. Except that the time base seems to get out of whak so when remuxed, the sound gets further and further out of sync. The original ac3 track plays fine and I have tried with several different tracks getting the same results.

The real task at hand is converting an mp4 file that contains h264 video and ac3 audio to a new mp4 file for my EVO that contains h264 video with baseline profile AVC level 3.1 and aac stereo audio. Am I just approaching this in the wrong way? The video recode works fine from an avs script, the audio does not, I have to extract the audio using yamb. Is there a line I should be placing in the avs script to allow it to pass the audio correctly and encode in meGUI? I tried setting audio=true but that did not help.

Any ideas?

Sharktooth

could you please post your encoding steps coz i just re-encoded an ac3 5.1 to a stereo aac using nero within megui and it worked flawlessly

Rat Killer

Input tab, Audio track 1
Audio Input: test.ac3
Cuts: (left blank)
Audio Output: test.mp4 (for Nero)
Encoder Settings, config, output channels, Downmix multichannel to Stereo, SampleRate, Keep Original, AAC Profile, Automatic
Click Enqeue and it processes and builds the mp4 output file containing 5 channels and nearly the same file size as the input. it should come out much smaller with only 2 channels.

If you get only 5 channels maybe your source isn't 5.1 but 5.0.
Only 5.1 sources can be downmixed to stereo with MeGUI.
:logfile:

Try with a .avs file with:
NicAc3Source("your_audio.ac3", 2)

in MeGUI Audio Input instead the .ac3 file.

Has anybody else noticed the tunings drop down in the x264 conf dialog putting additional commands in the command line?

how to reproduce:

1. open x264 config dialog and click load defaults.

2. go through the tunings one by one and look at the resulting command line

Default
program --crf 20 --output "output" "input"
Film
program --tune film --crf 20 --output "output" "input"
Animation
program --tune animation --crf 20 --output "output" "input"
Grain
program --tune grain --crf 20 --deadzone-inter 21 --deadzone-intra 11 --output "output" "input"
PSNR
program --tune psnr --crf 20 --output "output" "input"
SSIM
program --tune ssim --crf 20 --output "output" "input"
Fastdecode
program --tune fastdecode --crf 20 --no-deblock --no-cabac --weightp 2 --aq-mode 2 --output "output" "input"
Touhou
program --tune touhou --crf 20 --aq-mode 2 --aq-strength 1.0 --partitions p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,i8x8 --trellis 0 --output "output" "input"
3. Once you get to the bottom of the tuning start working back to the top again
Touhou
program --tune touhou --crf 20 --aq-mode 2 --aq-strength 1.0 --partitions p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,i8x8 --trellis 0 --output "output" "input"
Fastdecode
program --tune fastdecode --crf 20 --no-deblock --no-cabac --weightp 2 --aq-mode 2 --output "output" "input"
SSIM
program --tune ssim --crf 20 --trellis 0 --output "output" "input"
PSNR
program --tune psnr --crf 20 --trellis 0 --output "output" "input"
Grain
program --tune grain --crf 20 --trellis 0 --output "output" "input"
Animation
program --tune animation --crf 20 --trellis 0 --output "output" "input"
Film
program --tune film --crf 20 --trellis 0 --output "output" "input"
Default
program --crf 20 --output "output" "input"

I was under the impression that all the tunings should add is --tune %tuning% to the command line.

hey fellas , sorry if i am being off topic , but i just noticed that the great St is back :) , wow i am happy to see you sharktooth ( i am also visiting after a long hiatus :P )
well i wanted to ask how can one restrict x264.exe from using full cpu .. ( especizlly during IInd pass )
i want to allow it to use just 30 to 35% of the CPU , how can i do that permanently , atm all i do is reduce the affinity of the process x264.exe in task manager, but its not a permanent solution..
regards
Josh!!!

Why isn't low priority sufficient?

@forum king

Why isn't low priority sufficient?
well even then it reaches 97 to 100% and makes doing other stuff slow,

Sharktooth
30th July 2010, 20:22
the CPU usage is not the culprit. i mean, if a process is run in low priority it will use CPU cycles ONLY if there are no process with higher priority that require CPU cycles.
so for example if you run one encoding in normal priority and another in low priority, the first encode will use all the CPU cycles needed. the second will just use only those left (more or less).
however limiting x264 CPU usage is not possible unless you have a multicore CPU. in that case you can limit the number of threads and make x264 run only on one core.

Atak_Snajpera

Use IDLE priority.

LOW is AKA Idle...
Thanks , and what will happen if there are many users in a PC , like a server ??? what effect will x264.exe 100% usage have on other users ????
i guess there it will a problem ????

and how to limit the number of threads ???
the default setting is 0 which mean 1.5x of the nlogical cpu ???
suppose i enter 2 or 3 , does it mean that out of the 4 cores megui + x264.exe will use only 2 or 3 cores ???

stax76
30th July 2010, 21:00
I guess MeGUI uses idle by default, if Firefox is slow then it's probably the hard drive, ideally you would use 2 drives, a SSD as system drive and a normal hard drive for media.

Sharktooth
31st July 2010, 01:19
@forum king: the logic remains the same. higer priority processes will have a higher priority, hence more CPU cycles if they need them.
limit the threads with the threads option. 1 thread will use one core, 2 threads 2 cores etc. (1.5x is a coefficient to maximize the threading efficiency so, for example, to FULLY use 2 cores, x264 sets 3 threads as default).

lol as the topic hasnt moved a bit in last 5 days , i thought i ll make a double post..

actually i tried editing threads counts after the latest update of megui, but i donno i dont see no change in the command line at all after changing it from 0 to any other value.
then i tried manually adding --threads x in the edit option ( x being any value , i added 6 :P ), but after that x264 wont start at all, as if it has slept :P
what should i do :P

yes !!! as a matter of fact i am ..
do u want me to update again via development servers ??
and Zathor my mate !! could u also tell me if 15 threads are equal to 10 cores ???
and also among all the builds that are out there ( i can see stable is at 1649 and development is at 1677 ) of x264 which one is most stable and faster ;)
i am gonna try and encode some high definition stuff now ;P

Thanks for the reporting. I have not much time at the moment and therefore it would be great if you could point out which tools are out of date and direct me to the download links.
