I tried the new build on original sample and two other samples. One of those has HE-AAC audio and in all cases detection is correct. Thanks Zathor.
P.S. This build doesn't have option to disable remuxing to intermediate MKV file. Are you going to commit that option soon in development build?

doesn't matter. every user can ask for features. You can't decide which one is important and which no. Please, let zathor decide on which features work.
Some features are less important but sometimes easier to develop.
I get error very often when I try to encode from DVD extracted AC3 to MP4 using these settings:
http://i.imgur.com/gq3JqCf.jpg
The problem is that 50% it works and 50% it doesn't for various random AC3 files. For example this time I extracted two AC3's from same DVD, one encoded fine to .mp4 with no problem and this other one always gets error (i.e. Constant bitrate option works 100% all time).
There's log: https://pastee.org/ngv2u

I get error very often when I try to encode from DVD extracted AC3 to MP4 using these settings:
...
NicAc3Source("E:\VTS_02_1 T84 3_2ch 384Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3", DRC=1)
...
Commandline used: -ignorelength -lc -br 192000
...
Output from encoder via stdout: ERROR: error while encoding frame
Thats hapens sometimes when NeroAacEnc can't encode some audio samples with the parameters required.
Don't use -lc to encode a 5.1 at 192 Kb/s, use -he instead to obtain better quality at this bitrate.
If you need LC use VBR q=0.35 to obtain the minimum bitrate using LC

Of course.
Like user I don't like some changes suggested and I don't need the others.
But like moderator I only want protect the developers. Seems you don't know the history about tired MeGUI developers.
The last decission is from Zathor, than can read the request and apply or not, without justify the decission.

How's that an excuse for NeroAacEnc that 'thats happens sometimes' to get errors? If there's settings for that method it should work. As I said it works with other stream from the dvd. Both streams same length, same channels, same size, same everything just different languages. One works and other doesn't because 'sometimes happens'? And q=0.35 gives waaay bigger sized .mp4 and I can't hear any difference in quality.

I don't want excuse NeroAacEnc, I only explain the problem and offer to you a solution.

Yes, a audio can be easy to compress and the other not, and crash if can't be compressed with LC with only 192 Kb/s
And q=0.35 gives waaay bigger sized .mp4 and I can't hear any difference in quality.
Then use -he method with more quality than -lc at this low bitrate.

Maybe try selecting F:\Wreck it Ralph 3D\New Folder\WRECK_IT_RALPH_3D\BDMV instead of F:\Wreck it Ralph 3D\New Folder\WRECK_IT_RALPH_3D\BDMV\STREAM as a starting point.
@ rhaz:
You may also like to move from NeroAAC to QAAC (which requires an installed QuickTime, iTunes, or at least extracted CoreAudioToolbox libraries available). But I agree to let the encoder decide whether to create LC-AAC or HE-AAC (except the playback device doesn't support HC-AAC); and in general you should rather prefer a quality-based VBR mode instead of ABR (in case of QAAC, it is called "True VBR", a recommendable default value is in the range of ~70-90, documented in the HydrogenAudio forum, linked pic (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=78072&view=findpost&p=682393)), both MP4 and MKV can handle that easily.

IMHO everything on the "Main" tab of the x264 configuration dialog should be basic settings. And the other tabs should be for the advanced settings.
Instead i asked him to add a slider in addition to a textbox + spinner.

I forgot to update at an earlier stage. This program works for some movie files, may be of particular size, or streams. But not all. I tried that one too, instead of stream to its parent folder, but no luck. It just throws an exception, could not find it. I tried extracting using the program tsmuxergui, it works fine. I cannot use the streams extracted from tsmuxergui with MeGUI, I do not know why!

To be honest I never use MeGUI for my real work.
I use UsEac3to like GUI for eac3to to extract video and recode audios, DGIndexNV directly to index video, make my own avs file with some templates, run x264 with a .bat and mux with MkvMergeGUI.
And BeHappy when I need AviSynth for audio.
But follow these threads to see if I can help about AviSynth audio management or eac3to.
Maybe, for some users, a output to WAV (or W64 if output >4GB) can be interesting, PCM is useless.
Or a method to extract audio, and know Delay, from avi's, like AviMuxGUI can do manually. But I don't know how make that with a .amg.

The correct starting point folder when use eac3to (HD Streams Extractor) is:
F:\Wreck it Ralph 3D\New Folder\WRECK_IT_RALPH_3D

Both, the Blu-ray Disc standard and the AVCHD standard support PCM audio.
So why is PCM useless?
Beacause a .pcm file have the same audio data, in different order only, than a WAV/W64 file but don't have any header.
Without a header to specify Samplerate, Bithdepth and NumChannels a .pcm file can't be interpreted.
WAV/W64 is a container than can store PCM data, with a header to specify the needed parameters.

0.6 is a old version of UsEac3to, try with v 1.0 and eac3to 3.27 at same folder.
BTW, maybe you have a corrupt or protected BD at this location.
Try load the 00800.mpls in tsMuxeR and see if Demux work.

And which format would be the correct one to encode Blu-ray Disc compliant PCM audio muxed inside a Blu-ray Disc compliant M2TS container?
If you are using tsMuxeR to create your m2ts files for BD or AVCHD you can load the WAV (if less than 4 GB) or the W64 file.

you're contradicting yourself...you spoke about basic settings int the 1st tab whereas adding a new slider might be confusing.
tebasuna51
29th May 2013, 01:26
And WAV or W64 inside a M2TS container is compliant with official Blu-ray Disc specification?
It's a joke?
Are you a troll?
Do you know what you are saying?
How many times I need to answer the same question?
I must strike you?
Well, I must to be patient and answer you question, instead answer my questions. For last time.
tsMuxeR, or other BD Authoring tool, read the PCM data in WAV/W64 container and put them in m2ts container, compliant with BD specs, without problems.
Kurtnoise
29th May 2013, 09:47
IMHO it's not contradictory.
IMHO it would be less confusing with a slider (which is why i asked for it).
I said contradictory because you have mentioned 2 different things... and I understood that you would have the crf textbox + slider. But now, it's more clear for me.
Because, a slider with labels like "Higher Quality (Bigger Filesize)" on the left side of the slider and "Lower Quality (Lower Filesize)" on the right side of the slider (label names just examples) would probably be more intuitive than just a simple textbox. Especially for users not being aware of what CRF actually does or is.
probably yes, probably not, who knows...but your label example is not accurate because you cannot reference filesize within quality.

Please, do not add slider. MeGUI is not 1-click tool (although it has One-click encoder) so even person without any knowlage of video compression can use it. And if person has any knowlage about it, then he/she already knows what CRF means. Having slider is redundant.
BTW, we already have slider for presets. Anoter slider on top of it?
Also, how precise slider should be? Textbox with up/down arrows give us decimal precison. With slider we could only have integer precision.
WAV support would be usefull, though.

yeah, I think it's sufficient to have just one textbox for crf values.

29th May 2013, 14:21
Yes, I can. But CRF goes form 0 to 51. With one decimal place that's 510 different positions. How percise slider could be without increasing configuration windows? Though, we could go with percision of 0.5.
And again, if we have slider for CRF why don't we add slider for bitrate?;) And that would require to have ether two sliders where one would be greyed out or configuration dialog should change based on option select.
@jq963152 For people that do not now what CRF means there is a floating help panel when you hover mouse pointer over quality textbox.
More importan, why do you think that you know what other people needs are?
detmek
29th May 2013, 18:42
I will just skip quoting, so:
1. Sorry, I missed that part of your message. But, as you see yourself there is an expanation for CRF (any many other options) and I, as active MeGUI user, don't like redundant options.
2. Same as 1., redundant.
3. If that guy from another forum cann't remmember that lower CRF means better quality after few years of using Handbrake than he has much bigger problem than some cosmetic change in Handbrake.
4. CRF is not a bitrate so we have to change it all the time. You choose CRF value that works for you and thats it. If you need different CRF values for different video material/resolution it is better to create presets. So steping is not really important and requires developers time (plus possible bug fixing) for not apparent use. And there aren't much people that work on MeGUI.
5. I know how VidCoder works, I have a portable version but I don't realy use it.
6.You can have silder even for bitrate. Xvid VFW encoder has one. It is just that stepping wouldn't be 1kbs and it should not be "linear" because of very high bitrates that H.264 standard supports. But again, it would be redundant.
7. I preffer MeGUI just as it is now. Thats why I use it. As it is legitimate for another user to request some feature it is legitimate for me to request some feature not to be implemented, right?
Though, 10-bit x264 would be usefull for anime encoding. And even for regular movies if hardware compatibility is not required.

@jq963152 you appear to have a strong passion for handbrake and handbrake based projects. Why not enjoy that and contribute to them more to make them better and more enjoyable for yourself.
You appear to be spending a lot of energy to convince Megui to be more like Handbrake when more different would be optimal wouldn't it? Greater differentiation.

Not sure which update caused this but somewhere in the last few, the oneclick encoder broke the autocrop and resize logic.
I have profile that uses auto crop and a max resolution of 1920. Using a mpeg2 input file with resolution of 720x480 that has black bars on right and left, results in an output file of 640x486. The allow upsize checkbox is not checked. Output should be 640x480.
I need to produce files that are 480p, 720p or 1080p dimensions and none of the current available settings will let me achieve this any longer. I have to manually index and adjust resize and crop settings for each file now.
Also note that if advanced settings is enabled, the resolution on the advanced tab does not match the profile many times. Why should the resolution be specified in multiple locations that do not match?
Lastly, would it not be possible to allow specification of resolution by frame height rather than width?

As a workaround it should be possible to enable bluray output format for x264 which will result in 480/720/1080p resolution - with the drawback of some other changed settings as well.

In this location you specify the max resolution - it is not the resolution of the file but it may be overriden if the resolution is lower. Multiple locations?

I have placed a sample file at:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_ohDgM8qrN5eFctaW9tY2JUa1E/edit?usp=sharing
The Blu-ray output setting in x264 seems to be getting me files that work, thanks for the tip as a workaround.
The resolution setting is shown on the advanced settings tab in the one click encoder and it also is shown in the config for the profile. Selecting a profile with a resolution of say 1280 and then going to the advanced tab, the resolution will show whatever it was previously, not what was selected in the profile. IE the setting is shown in 2 places and they do not necessarily match and its unclear which will be used in the actual job.
Thanks for your help!

I can reproduce the problem. A fix is not so easy and will need some time as I want to align the OneClick resize with the AVS Script Creator.
The resolution setting is shown on the advanced settings tab in the one click encoder and it also is shown in the config for the profile. Selecting a profile with a resolution of say 1280 and then going to the advanced tab, the resolution will show whatever it was previously, not what was selected in the profile. IE the setting is shown in 2 places and they do not necessarily match and its unclear which will be used in the actual job
The profile is setting the default values which can then be overridden in the advanced settings if necessary without changing the whole profile (like for file size). But I understand that it can be confusing.

It would be nice to have some more options exposed for FLAC conversion, both from the Profile and the Stream Extractor. Namely, being able to convert to 16bit and/or reduce bitrate for a smaller file Or at least a box to allow us to modify the command line? (Ripbot produced FLACs from TrueHD/DTS-MA tracks with EAC3 at 16bits that are much smaller, and sound great)

The HD Streams Extractor automatically selects the english tracks of an m2ts file, but I can't find an option to also automatically select French or other language tracks?!
Please select your languages in Options\Settings
I just wanted to ask about my previous question:

I don't undesrtand, there are two languages options,, and their function is not that clear. I thought it defined the output language track name for an mkv or mp4 file ? So actually it's meant to select the default language streams to extract?

It is used in several places and also for the HD Streams Extractor. You can select there your two languages (or only one).

Ok, had a quick look and failed... Does somebody know how to retrieve the information programatically (sso wich parameters to use) from MediaInfo in order to check if a file has attachments? I can find this information in the GUI but not in the API.

1. I find the megui oneclick folder queue handling a bit strange and unexpected esp. in comparison to the more intuitive handbrake gui method: After adding a folder all files contained are added to the queue just like queuing them manually one by one. For my use case it works better the way it is now (limited HD space).
I see your point - but this would be fixed if the other unusual megui behavior would be changed: instead of putting everything to the end of the *queue*, it would make sense to put it at the end of the *job*:
... currently you end up with tons of temporary files after queuing some jobs before the actual av processing starts:
job1 idx done
job1 oneclick done
job2 idx done
job2 oneclick done
job1 audio processing
job1 video waiting
job1 mux waiting
job1 cleanup waiting
job2 audio waiting
job2 video waiting
job2 mux waiting
job2 cleanup waiting
... but neatly putting the result of idx/oneclick where it would make more sense, at least to me:
job1 idx done
job1 oneclick done
job1 audio done
job1 video processing
job1 mux waiting
job1 cleanup waiting
job2 idx waiting
job2 oneclick waiting

That will only be possible if there are reliable command line multiplexers for the MOV container, as there is mkvmerge for MKV, or MP4Box for MP4.
You may be able to create MOVs with ffmpeg or mencoder, but who knows how tightly they follow the specifications? As far as I remember, their "filter" workflow (not seeking back in the output file to fix headers, because the output may be streamed through STDOUT) is a reason for already notorious issues with many output containers.

recode audio and not video in oneclick?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a number of files that need the audio recoded and the audio and video in a new container but do not need the video track recoded.
Is there a way to set up a profile in the oneclick encoder to do this?
I tried using the checkbox for 'Don't encode video' but it does anyway.
Zathor, Were you ever able to do anything along these lines or were you still waiting on something from me about mp4 files? Thanks as always.

When you may have some more time again, Zathor ... would you consider supporting L-SMASH Source (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=167435) (LWLibavVideoSource, LWLibavAudioSource) too?

Not sure which update caused this but somewhere in the last few, the oneclick encoder broke the autocrop and resize logic.
I have profile that uses auto crop and a max resolution of 1920. Using a mpeg2 input file with resolution of 720x480 that has black bars on right and left, results in an output file of 640x486. The allow upsize checkbox is not checked. Output should be 640x480.
Please test this build:
http://megui.org/test/MeGUI.zip
I had to rewrite large parts of the resolution (resize, crop, pad) logic to use the same functions during OneClick and in the AVS Script Creator. So there may be some new bugs.
@all: please test it. it will be released in the next days or weeks as normal development build.

Feature request:
Can you add a simple option to delete all backup files please? After a few weeks of updating the program, size of the whole folder increases to somewhat ridiculous numbers.
