Hi buzzqw,

I am back on this thread after longer time and I see that HDC has still very frequent and interesting updates. Perfect job :thanks:

I started to test this new beta, it has almost all features I was missing before ;) and it works fine on my Win 7 64 bit.

I do have only one very strange problem. When I start job and I am working on my laptop while transcoding (mkv to mkv), everything works fine. But when I start the job and leave my laptop unattended (e.g. during night), then I find my laptop crashed somewhere in the middle of the job }while transcoding video from mpeg2 to x264). Any idea? This is quite mysterious for me ;) I know, that this is not the issue of HDC itself. I am just asking whether you have already met something like this...

Thanks!

crash usually due to memory or overheating

you can check the x264 log file in \job folder
you can "see" if encoding gone wrong and interrupted

I am having an weird issue with HDconvert 3. Very briefly used version 2.5 and that didn't have this problem.

The MKV files created are including subtiles. These subtitles will display on my PC. But not on my PlayonHD. I have tried NMT and Strict options but this didn't help.

I have lots of mkv files that display correctly but all files created with HDConvertToX3 (Beta 3,4 and 6) have this issue.

Perhaps I am placing this in the wrong forum , since the issue is on a mkv player. But i find it strange that as it looks now only comes up with the newest version.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I am using version 3 Beta 7 and noticed a problem when trying to recode a DVD. I first use Test Interlace pattern. Then this stops at DG Index . IT shows the following info:

Framerate 29.970030 fps
Videotype Film 99.79 %

Timestamp 0:06:44

Elapsed 0:00:04
Remain 0:01:46

The command prompt shows :

2
3

DGIndex stays active and using the CPU but dosn't come beyond this point.

I noticed with Beta 7 that I need to reopen the ifo file to select the subtitles

So now and then I get to see a list of mutiple subtitles and they are named "Subtitle (dvd)"after re-opening the ifo file the languages are shown.

you can try changing mkvtoolnix folder in \application with an older mkvtoolnix version (4.0.0)
the new beta package include mkvtoolnix 4.2.0

i am unable to replicate, make sure you have select video_ts.ifo or vts_XX.ifo

thanks for the tip, overheating seems to my problem
laptop is not the perfect platform for this job :)

if I could, I would have one feature request: on Audio & Subs Selection are radio buttons to select two option:
- embed subtitles
- mux subtitles

would it be possible to add the third option which would only extract subs from source container, but would not neither embed, nor mux them?

thanks

@marklar

If you have a Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad, look for TPFanControl V0.62 by troubadix. This program will run the fans at a faster rate and dissipate heat a lot better than the bios settings. I've used it on several models of the thinkpad with good success. I don't know if there are similar solutions out there for other laptop brands or not.

@Buzzqw

Your latest fix for Flebber doesn't seem to be quite correct. I used the updated Beta7 and ran into a problem (2 actually). The batch file shows the problems ( I removed the ChapterExtractor and VSrip lines because they didn't affect the problem).

echo job number: 1
"C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\applications\dgmpgdec\dgindex.exe" -FO=0 -OM=0 -YR=2 -AIF=[d:\hdc\mainmovie\test\video_ts\vts_01_1.vob]

"C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\applications\x264\x264.exe" --crf 16 --preset medium --ref 4 --subme 9 --direct auto --trellis 0
--me umh --b-adapt 2 --bframes 4 --threads auto --thread-input --sar 1:1 --output "C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\job1\hdconverttox_vts_01_1.h264"
"C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\job1\hdconverttox_vts_01_1.avs" 2>HDConvertToX_x264_job1.log

"C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\applications\MKVtoolnix\mkvmerge.exe" -o "D:\HDC\MainMovie\test\VIDEO_TS\test.mkv" --default-duration 0:23.976fps
--compression 0:none "C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\job1\hdconverttox_vts_01_1.h264" --compression 0:none --language -1:eng
"C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\job1\hdencodertox-pid2.ac3" --default-track -1:no "C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\job1\hdc_subs.idx"
--chapters "C:\HDC\HDConvertToX_3Beta7\job1\chapters.txt" --title "test. Test Movie"

The batch file is creating the AC3 file with a name of *pid80.ac3 but mkvmerge is being passed *pid2.ac3.

The muxed title is also wrong, it appears to be concatenating the filename "test.mkv" (minus the extension) from the Save File text box and the Muxing title "Test Movie"

@flebber

The problem is the difference in the audio file... change the pid2.mp4 in the last batch file line to pid80.mp4 (or rename the file in the job folder). Copy/Paste the last line in a command prompt window and you should get your output.

I have been trying to get my plononhd to work and noticed the following.

If I use MKV Toolnix :

Version 3.4.0 - Everything works
Version 4.0.0 - Subtitles don't work correctly
Version 4.2.0 - Only Audio

If i remux mwith MMG with customized settings :

Version 4.2.0 Audio Compression None - Only Audio
Version 4.2.0 Subtitles Compression None - Only Audio
Version 4.2.0 Audio / Subtitle Compression None - Only Audio
Version 4.2.0 Video / Audio / Subtitle Compression None - Audio video and subtitle work except chapters.

Apparantly a big flaw in the mkv support in my PlayonHD.
I also placed it on the AD Ryan forum. Hopefully they will fix it.

thanks fixed
the problem arise only when no other vobs are found

http://www.64k.it/andres/data/hdconverttox/HDConvertToX-beta8.exe

about "it appears to be concatenating the filename "test.mkv"
it's wanted!
on dvd input HDC will automatically add the name of previous folder of video_ts to file name
so if your rips are in
d:\toy story1\video_ts\xxxx
HDC will add "toy story1" to muxing title

@Theopolis

use a shorter and simple folder name for your rips

Hi

I am new at this forum, I came up here because I was looking for a program to rip BD's. After some research, I found this program and found it complete to the tasks I wanted.

After following the tutorial for installation of the post in 1861 (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1318934&postcount=1861), I started using the program. Everything went well until near the end of the video processing, the program simply stopped without giving any specific error! Here are some screens of cmd.exe and of the temp folder of the prog.

In the cmd.exe, some text is in Portuguese.
Please, can anyone help me?
I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.

@Buzzqw,

I'm having some issues with the Visual Crop. Mostly it's not HDC's fault as far as I can tell. There is one small thing that doesn't quite seem right though.

Looking at the visualcropgrab.avs file, I see that it opens the first VOB of a movie. It then looks like it picks 10 spots to sample in the video. One small problem is that the number of frames it's picking the range over is for the entire movie, but directshowsource is only providing the first first Vob, so only 1/5th to 1/7th of the total frames are available for most movies. It seems like the selectRangeEvery line should be SelectRangeEvery( (X/10),1) # of X, where X is the number of frames in the first VOB, not the entire movie. I think all this does is cause most of the 10 bmp files to be blank. I don't know how you would get the value of X for this.

My other problem is that the autocrop and visual crop just don't work on some VOBs. I loaded the visualcropgrab.avs file into VirtualDubMod (just the directshowsource line) and listed the file properties. For most movies, I get a reasonable value, but on the failing movies I get a value of 350 - 600 total frames, which is obviously wrong and causes nothing to show up in the visual crop tool. I just installed the latest ffdshow tryout version and it didn't help. I don't know what the problem is. I'm able to do an encode just fine, but I ended up encoding black bars because the Autocrop didn't think there was anything to crop off. I don't know if it's a source issue or a directshow issue (I've tried libavcodec and libmpeg2 and they both give the same results).

Do you have any ideas or thoughts of anything I could try?

@flebber

If you still have your job folders intact, copy the mkvmerge line from each job, change pid2.mp4 to pid80.mp4 and run that line in a dos prompt window, you should get your output file without wasting all that encoding time.

@Buzzqw

The latest beta fixed the PID issue for me, but I'm using .ac3, not .mp4.

Tried converting another video and even though this time I got an output file, it neither had any audio nor any subs. Source file had FLAC audio (I used Copy Audio option HDC) and VOB subs.

I have been using HDCONVERT for a couple months and feel pretty comfortable with it. One thing i have not been able to get to work is subtitles.

Each time I try to encode a MKV with subtitles embeded or hard coded the program ends after working a few hours with no error code.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice now but no luck. How can I find what is missing?

How come every file I encode I have to rebuild the index? I am encoding with SAP compatiblity. Is this why?

I have just started using HDC as I am having trouble with Automen which cannot for me encode decrypted DVD's to avi using Mencoder. HDC is a nice tool with great potential.

Minor Problem: using best encoder during analysis always results for me in XP getting NTSC results when all my sources are PAL. Using the Force FFMEG as decoder option gets more correct results eg PAL, but the movie AR comes out to 2.56 when it should be 2.35 so the cropping seems to put out different figures each time for same source even if you try it again when it should be cropping to 2.35 AR. I had to manually change aspect to 2.35 and crop manually using another auto tool figures.

There are some minor GUI cosmetic spelling bugs.

In the "Runtime" box below analyse it should say "length" instead of "lenght"

Using "Analyse File" it should say "Assume same "properties" as "previous" file."

In advanced options, utilities, bitrate calculator it should say "length" as above.

Also after selecting the longest pgc of a DVD film via Video_TS, the HDC program I find only does eg 45 mins of encoding or 1st? of vts files rather than all of them which comprise the entire film. Log attached next post.

:thanks:

I have used MeGui successfully for some time but recently experienced major problems with progressively out of sync audio. On recommendation I tried encoding using HDConvertToX but with mixed results. Whilst I was able to successfully produce an MP4 video on my first attempt I noted the following problems:

1. Visual Crop

I was unable to get this feature working at all. When I clicked on the Visual Crop button all the appropriate windows opened but no video displayed just an amorphous grey panel. Using the selection slider I could occasionally get part of the video image .... either in the left hand or right hand pane but rarely in both.

2. Preview

I found that Preview worked only erratically. I occasionally see a full screen video image but mostly not. The original video source does open and play properly using Media Player Classic however and it also loads and plays properly in MeGui. [I haven't tried playing the .avs file though so perhaps the .avs structure is causing the problem]

3. Frame rate on final video output

When I try to play the final .MP4 output file I observe that it plays ok but that motion stutters quite a lot. I think this is, most likely, due to the fact that the framerate has been set at 50fps rather than Pal standard 25fps! [see code below]. I have no idea why the command options are specifying 50fps as there appears to be no option to specify a framerate. Why is fps being set to 50 and how do I change this?

I would appreciate any help or advice on resolving these problems.

@flebber

try with the new beta

@ajamils

fixed in beta package

@dulsin
mkv with subs are supported in new beta

@Marshy

forcing ffmpegsource HDC is unable to join vobs!
you must use best decoder

about you "faulty" framerate detection
are you sure you haven't any framerate filters in ffdshow decoder ?

if no.. post a fragment of vob ... hdc rarely fails analysis ;)

@Cyberpro60

visual crop and preview use the same approach, HDC use directshow decoder for showing the file
if you have problem on framerate and playback , that mean you don't have a working (well) decoder

i suggest to reinstall haali and ffdshow

After the fail I went and deleted the job folders that HDC creates and re ran with generate encode. It fails it seems to pull the previous file in sort of. I found this in the job folder.

Then loaded a new file changed a few settings and generate encode. encode failed. It tried to pull the wrong AVS script.x264 [error]: could not open input file `C:\Rip\HDC\Beta\job1\hdconverttox_title00 (1)-001.avs'

@flebber

flv files aren't officially supported. for these kind of file HDC will suggest to use directshow decoder
while i see eac3to use in your report

and.. i don't fully understood your second problem
post the "hdconverttox_title00 (1)-001.avs"

EDIT: just for fun.. try this build (don't know if will work well..) http://www.64k.it/andres/data/hdconverttox/HDConvertToX-beta-flebber.exe
it will try to mux the flv first with mkvmerge, then with ffmpeg

Buzzqw Sorry it is confusing I should have bee clearer. Its not flv support giving an error.

The second encode tries to reference the first file.

The input to the second encode
Input File: c:\rip\source\trivium - slave_new_world_hd.flv ( C:\Rip\Source\Trivium - Slave_New_World_HD.flv )

but from the job folder
eac3to v3.22
command line: "C:\Rip\HDC\Beta\applications\eac3to\eac3to.exe" "c:\rip\source\customize\the shield_s2_d1\video_ts\title00 (1)-001.mkv" 1:"C:\Rip\HDC\Beta\job1\hdconverttox.m2v"

So then I deleted the job folder picked a new file I wanted something short so it was a different flv file. But for some reason it still tried to reference my first input.
x264 [error]: could not open input file `C:\Rip\HDC\Beta\job1\hdconverttox_title00 (1)-001.avs'

so you open a file and then add to queue
open another file, then add to queue

then ?

please post the full make report/queue thanks !

I didn't actually queue a job. I loaded mkv file pressed generate encode, encode was successful, so I loaded a new file the flv and selected encode and that was the error.

All very random. Probably just me unless someone else can repeat it

i use HDConvertToX to convert MKV formats into AVI/MP4 for devices that don't support soft subs. i like how HDConvertToX lets me encode the soft subs into hard subs. however, HDConvertToX doesn't work with [Frostii]_K-On!!_-_19_[3E3073DC].mkv

it doesn't detect any audio or subtitles.. and also doesn't detect the video codec:

Input File: e:\[[anime\[Frostii]_K-On!!_-_19_[3E3073DC].mkv
Codec Video:
Width / Heigh : 1280 / 720
Framerate / Framecount: 23.976fps / 35243 frames
Duration(hh:mm:ss): 0:24:30
Aspect Ratio: 1.7778
Resized resolution: 1280 / 720
Crop Values : 0:0:0:0

episode 18 works as expected though...

Input File: e:\[[anime\[frostii]_k-on!!_-_18_[cf48b7a4].mkv
Codec Video: avc
Width / Heigh : 1280 / 720
Framerate / Framecount: 23.976fps / 35244 frames

I recently converted 3 movies using beta9 with mkvtoolnix 3.40 (for compatibility with playonhd). I noticed that the conversion embedded the subtitles.
"Embed in video stream" was not selected.

Thanks for your help.

If you create a chapter file with a program like chpaterextractor you could use mkvmerge to put the chapters and the file together.

@Theopolis

you should see in queue the "--compression 0:none" is already used. No need to use mkvtoolnix 3.4

and .. from your queue i can only see that subs ARE MUXED not burned in...

i can suggest to remux with mkvtoolnix 4.2.0 (with compression none selected) and check if Haali splitter allow you to select the subs
-- and btw.. next time post the make report :) (i need the avs script too!)

@ALL
any more test with beta9 ?
