if 3 movies works, and 1 no.. i think problem is on the not working one's
please give some information about not working one's
Will post soon
visualcrop take a random number of frames, and analyze is using dss.
yes, time could be different but not so much
Will need to reinstall everything soon. Will look into it
write this:
tweak(sat=3)
not only sat=3 ...
You forgot to tell me if I preview will give an indication of what this would like before encode?
look here! http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdecnv/dgmpgdecnv.html
I did go to this site. I was expecting a Nvidia website. Did not realise its homebrew. Looks interesting still....
lastly was wondering if you could post a screen shot of your ffdshow settings with all codecs listed. This would help me a lot to eliminate some of my issues.
thanks

yes, preview will apply free avs inserted

i usually install ffdshow in normal way, and let it be the predefined decoder for all but wmv
not much to hassle , just install it
one minor adjustment is settings AVC to ffmpeg-mt (for dual core cpu), and enable dvd decoding in mpeg2

What do you do for wmv
What exactly do you mean by "enable dvd decoding in mpeg2"?Where is this setting. In ffdshow I have mpeg2 should Iset it to liba.?
When I click analyze haali splitter and ffdshow icons come up on the right. Anyway for this one movie which I have encoded in HDC before but since the size is not what I can live with I am re encoding. Since new version of x264 it does not analyze. Anyway just double clicked on haali and reduced number of TS packets to check under input and it did analyze quickly. I am trying with another movie HDC did earlier and has problems but it goign on with the analyze. Scratching my head. ITs just weird

for wmv set fdshow to use wmv9 decoder
and about mpeg2, select it, then down will be enabled "dvd decoding"
isn't the new versions of x264 that's fault, since other movies are analyzed.
it's a matter of decoder used.
if your problem with dss are insurmountable try using Force FFmpegSource
just a clue try installing haali enabling mpeg ps and mpeg ts, and test analyze fuction
then install haali without enabling mpeg2 ps/ts support, and test analyze fuction

check your ffdshow decoder status (and haali..)
ok, I had to DISABLE H.264/AVV decoding in ffdshow. Don't ask me why ....
Now the avc format works as well with DG....NV tools. Very nice!

If you had to disable it in FFDShow, then another encoder already installed on your system took over. This usually occurs when using PowerDVD or ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater. Their filters take over, and apparently that works for you. Weird that ffdshow is having troubles.

Yes, this seems exactly to be the case. An installed MainConcept decoder took over. I didn't expect that ffdshow will have troubles with it. Weird indeed. I just wonder now how many other "strange observations" can be attributed to this....

HDC doesn't work with VFW. I tried encoding them and none of them work.
Never mind, HDC (or DGAVCIndex) doesn't allow directories with Chinese characters.
Sharc

what about speed gain ?
Here some results (on quadcore PC)
x264 preset medium, film
1) Source AVC (1080p)
DG_Standard: 8.48 fps
DG...NV: 8.95 fps
2) Source VC-1 (1080 frame/field interlaced)
DSS: x264 crash
DG....NV: 8.72 fps
3) Source mpeg-2 (1080p)
DG_Standard 9.82 fps
DG...NV: 9.95 fps
So for me the main benefit of DG....NV is the ability to decode frame/field interlaced VC-1 material, rather than speed.

But there is a check box at the bottom, called "DVD Decoding". Make sure that is checked if you want FFDshow to decode DVDs.

God feel like an idiot. Learning process I guess. Should I leave mpeg 2 as disabled or one of the others (liba, libmpeg2)?

22nd July 2009, 12:23
MPEG2 is the encoded format for DVDs (mostly), so if you want FFDshow to decoded DVDs, you must enable MPEG2, either Libmpeg2 or libavcodec. IMO, Libmpeg2 provides a more stable experience. You can try both.

Hi buzzqw,
I've been meaning to ask....
I work alot with DV in .AVI and RGB in .AVI sources. Is there any particular reason why "input" of the .AVI container is not directly supported?
buzzqw
22nd July 2009, 13:05
simply answer: audio track
if avi has 1 only audio track you can say NO to muxing to MKV, but if avi file has more then 1 audio , the only way to process the second (or third..) is to mux in mkv
while developing automkv many and more users asked why weren't supported multiple audio in avi, with HDC if you mux in mkv you can process these tracks, otherwise no.
anyway avi is already present in list of supported media type

Because the development for automkv has stopped (thx buzz for the info), I will give HDConvertToX a try. But I have to ask a general question about subs. This problem also existed with automkv, but I could load external subs and with some handwork I could reach my goal.
I want to rip only forced subs. E.g. if someone speaks a foreign language in a movie, translated signs etc. But here the problem starts: On some DVDs you have a subtitle track with some subs marked as forced, on some other disc there is an extra subtitle track for this type of subs. So at the moment I rip the subs with vobsub, look at them with subresync and then I rip the needed subs with vsrip. After that I load them into automkv as external subtitle.
There must be an easier (automatic) way. How does a standalone player find this track? Isn't there any data on a DVD were a programm/player is guided to the right track? So an option to load "translation/sign" subs (see describtion above) would be nice. I DON'T wan't a simple button "rip forced subs only", this wouldn't save me any work.
If this doesnt' work, is possible to load external subs in hdc?

HDC creates directories in the workfolder according to the file name. This is very nice, however these directories remain empty because HDC throws all temporary files into the [job1] directory.
Is this intentional? If so, what are the specific directories intended for?

Well analysing and visual crop was taking a long time. You asked me to disable support for mpeg2 ps/ts support and check if it works better. Well it does work fine after I disabled those two in haali.
What I need to know does HDC require Haali to support those two types and if it does then I am assuming you asked to instal and configure like that for a reason? Do you get better quality with haali?
buzzqw
23rd July 2009, 15:33
HDC need a proper and working splitter and decoder
isn't a issue about quality, but a necessity about being able to use directshowsource on stream
hdc will work well even without haali, that's for sure.. if you have installed another working mpeg splitter
a decoder should give the same quality as another, the same for splitter

Try the commandline by hand. Take the commands from the queue or make report and enter them one by one into the command line.
You should be able to find your problem pretty quickly.
Another thing that you can check is the job folder for that particular job. See which files have been created and which have not. Use the commanline to create the file not in you job folder and you should be able to track down your problem.

Buzz I have encountered several movies where the audio part shows error in {stwav.log} dont remember the name exactly. As a result with HDC it does not look like it can be converted(I know HDC does not actually do the conversion). I intend to convert these to Nero aac, 128kbps, original channel, CBR. The video for these movies encodes fine but audio seems to be the problem. Is there a way to make it work? If not what program should I use to convert these ac3 files to aac?
thanks

ac3 should never be a problem in decoding/encoding, seriously
eac3to can have problem with ac3 source only when this track is somehow damaged
a more robust approach is using DirectShowSource (on audio section), or try ffmpeg
but.. eac3to never got problem with "normal" ac3 audio

buzzqw, how do I get DivX to work? I can never get it to encode. The encoder always gives an error message saying can't read the source.

have you installed DivX 6.8 ?
EDIT: please try the DG version
the only problem so far detected is about bitrate computing

I got DivX working, but the bitrate calculator is messed up. I asked for a 440MB file, I end up with a 70MB file.

Oh.
I thought that was only if you used the DG version.

Hello buzzqw,
first i want to say thank you for this great piece of software.
Second i want to ask something about the "final size" option. In AutoMKV, this option will set the file size for the resulting media file (if i enter 185 MB, the resulting mkv will be 185 MB). In HDConvertToX this is changed to the filesize of the video file, right? If i enter 185 MB, the videofile will be 185 MB, but the container will be bigger (size of the video file + size of the audio tracks). Is this working as intended?
Greetings, phXql
