Hmm, strange, VirtualDub reports no errors and info.txt is created with correct data. Some dvd rips analysis ends with zeros in source file info fields in HDC, some dvd rips have red background in frame rate field. If I run analyze script of totally crippled zeroed films manually and then hit analyze button in HDC it displays all data in proper fields but frame rate is still redgrounded. When I use vstrip_ifo from cmd line I got "error opening IFO file" message. Could it be 64bit OS problem ? Or is problem somewhere between chair and keyboard ? :(

What version of windows are you running? I'm running windows 7 beta, and I had the same problem with regular playback as you on my blu-ray, until I wiped and did a clean install. I also had some conflicting codecs caused by the software suite AVS4YOU, that got in the way of haali functioning properly.

However, HDC still won't analyze my m2ts properly. I've decoded the blu-ray using 2 different methods (anydvd and also br disk ripper 1.5), and it plays back in WMP.

I am using Windows XP SP3, and I have never installed a codec pack in my life. I have always used Haali's Media Splitter and FFDShow Tryouts. I can play blu-rays just fine.

Edit: AHA! I got Avisynth to load my sample evo file by using a call to Haali's DSS2() function, vs the standard Directshowsource() call.

And last dummy question (for today). I have selected first PGC (33:30 minutes episode), set all and let HDC do hard work but eac3 has created 8 gig stdout.wav and nero aac has encoded 11680 seconds of audio which I suspect is sum of first audio track of all episodes on entire dvd. Is IFO messy or there was mistake in vstripping it ?

If you press analyze button vstrip_ifo.exe runs, then eac3to.exe and then the x264.exe is called. In XP the messeage about untrusted application pops up and you can allow it to run and uncheck to ask this again. I will try to find how to set W7 to behave at least in the same way. But problem with incorrect handling of ifo persist in XP also. I ran same job under XP and audio tracks are still together for all PGCs. I am doing Black Adder dvds so I want episodes as single file. But I will not bother you for today. THX.
Btw1. What about changing Infinite Time profile a little bit ? B-frames and psy-rd ?

It stands for Directshowsource 2, by Haali. When you install his media splitter package, there is a dll in there that says avss.dll. If you through this into your plugins folder you now have access to a function DSS2(). It only frameserves video, so no audio, and supports the fps=blah option perfectly.

What happens is, HDC will skip over the video encode and create a mkv of the audio track only. I always use copy audio, 1 pass extreme quality, and check anamorphic shape so the width/height will be the same as original.
A lot of this could be because I just don't know the best settings to use, but those are what works the best so far.
What I need is a "how to rip a DVD" guide that holds my hand through the process. :p

HDC when is selected the first pcg "thinks" that all movie is to process :scared:
only when selecting a pgc >1 it will process correctly this

MKVMERGE enforce keep-bitstream-ar when SAR information is present

on normal encode (not anamorphic) isn't needed to specify a SAR of encoding since it's the same as resolution proportion
only when anamorphic encoding is done that --sar is triggered and MKVmerge read it and flag mkv with it

even in your automkv report the pixel aspect ratio is the same, even if missing
Aspect ratio: Square pixels the ar is the same

on hdc encode the resolution is different.. but ar is basically the same

MKVMERGE enforce keep-bitstream-ar when SAR information is present

Is there a way to force the SAR even if it's square pixels? I'd still like to have it because I use the Sage HD200 device (like the Popcorn Hour) which reads the stream for all AR. It would not hurt anyone else to have the container and stream PAR the same.

Well, there is no error that I can see. If I try playing it has a black sceen with a ColorMatrix line at the top in yellow. I have attached it for you to examine, it's only 4k in size. I renamed it by adding .zip to the end.

Hi,

I have again problem with another DVD, that I had already before. That time re-authoring using Shrink helped. With this DVD (btw unprotected) nothing helps. The problem is as follows:
There is IFO and corresponding VOB file. When I select VOB as input, HDC works well. If I select IFO as input, then HDC selects track/stream number 3 as audio, even if there are only 2 streams (video and audio) and therefore eac3to.exe fails. Here is report:

In your x264 profiles you are using the setting --filter.
I assume this refers to the in loop deblocker. It seems however not to be in line with the x264 syntax which (according to the --help) allows either -f or --deblock, but not --filter.

EDIT: After more detailed view, this partially works. It replaces "title" for mkvmerge with the folder name, which is fine for me. But it does not set file name to any value, i.e. file name is something like "hdconverttox_full_vts_07_1.mkv".

Works, but it overwhelms inputworkfolder.txt, i.e. multiple temps are always created in \temp. Not sure, if this was intended behavior.

C:\myrip\matrix\VIDEO_TS (note VIDEO_TS should be uppercase!) (in next update could be lowercase)

and within video_ts all your vobs/ifos

the title will be MATRIX

multitemp.txt always uses the input folder as working directory and disregards workfolder.txt. I would prefer if the multitemp.txt would create its folders in the folder which is defined in workfolder.txt

Other:
In the Video tab I would prefer to have the default De-noise filter "None", but this is perhaps just me.

Did you change anything in the autocrop procedure? I feel it's less reliable now (?)
I have to press Visual Crop to obtain (update) the correct cropped values.
I also have to touch or move the resize slider, or select/deselect the Anamorphic Shape to get the Movie AR correctly updated after Analyze file.

Can we get this a field that can be changed to anything, like in AutoMKV? Sometimes I want to name it differently than the file name, especially if I use invalid file characters in that field. For instance, some movies have a "?" in the name.

buzz, thanks for the ongoing updates, will your app make use of the 64bit version of x264, as i have just installed windows 7 rc1, and use the 64bit version on haali and ffdhsow as wel as mpc-hc, just want to know if there are true benefits when using your program in x64 really.

HDC is a gui, so is pointless compiling it for 64bit

BUT if you have a true 64bit environment: OS, AviSynth, every plugin used, X264.exe , if so you will have a boost of speed (maybe near to 10%)

in hdc you can simply substitute the x264 build with a 64bit version , the same for plugins
