I can only observe this 2 methods.
in full disc mode it flags the movie 4/3 but when extracting all the extras of an Dvd to get only the main movie and one audio stream HDC recognize that it is 16/9 flag and this is correct.

The only thing that i can say about this, that in older Versions of HDC there was never a problem like this

Could this really be a problem with the video_ts.ifo dont think so mhm...

Looks like we both have same problem. Can you post system specs?

AMD Phenom II X4 955BE @ 3.5Ghz
8GB RAM
Win 7 x64
2x Hitachi 1TB
1x Sony BD-Rom
1x Liteon DVD-R/W
NVidia 265GT (something like that - big ugly full length card with like a 1GB on it - way more than I'll ever actually need)

leave multithread ON

the AVS should not apply multithread to source , only to filtering

3) the fix , and again isn't a problem of HDC BUT of DECODER, is for DGAVCDEC. Leave Use Best Decoder

buzz dont know whats happening anymore. I chose use default decoder and nothing else

First time it crsahed with multithred as soon as I hit encode

second time it detected the audio fine and encoded it and then when doing video my system ran out of memory the first time(first time I saw the message) so something is wrong with this beta. I will run some tests soon and the post the make report. I am cleaning some files over to get a decent report

BHH

Yes, I do have write access.

Yes, encoding is working.

Tried a clean install, still crashes when I test interlace pattern, DGindex runs through, then it crashes.

Edit
Some how, it started to work intermittently:
Source is declared tff by a margin of 304/179.
Analyzed 2204 sections of five frames
Found Interlace Sections: 176 7.99%
Found progressive Sections:2007 91.06%

Found Two Mov: 0.95% 21
Found Three Mov: 0.91% 20
Found Four Mov: 1.45% 32
Found Five Comb: 3.77% 83
What de-interlacing filter must I select?
The compression test works on and off too, as seen below. If it reports a minus result, it appears the interlace test fails too.
Compression Test Report

You have analyzed 3% of total movie. Audio section isn't computed in compression test.

HDConvertToX has used a Constant Quality of 20, using as preset X264 Extreme Quality

Encoding the sample at Optimal Quality has produced a file of -1 byte ( -0.00MB )

Full Video Size (at optimal quality) will be -33 byte ( -0.00MB )

Feel free to select different Quality/Speed setting, reduce or enlarge resolution, applying filters, for tweaking final size

With the latest beta, I'm noticing that the preview Crop is taking much longer than before. I'm using x264 1259 and the input file is an IFO.

BTW, thanks for adding the resizer option. But, the resizer is not being stored in default settings.

it's due to x264 preset

please download this build of visualcrop http://www.64k.it/andres/data/hdconverttox/HDC_visualcrop.exe
and put into \applications folder

about storing resizer.. don't know.. any power user use different resizer on different source..

i don't think to allow saving it

Thanks buzz

I've got it working now. But there are a few issues:
I ran preview.avs in MPC and the colours are all out of place, lots of red and blue in the picture, parts of it looks greyscale
I ran hdconverttox_vts_01_1.avs in MPC it's also got the colour problems.

what profile are you using ?
no-ssim isn't present in standard profile

about color issue.. maybe due to subs ?

if you got the same wrong color with the avs script and mpc
it's better to debug the script

I don't know what x264 profile, I'm using this HDConvertToX profile:
X264;7;Extreme Quality;--keyint 250 --bframes 4 --mixed-refs --trellis 0 --ref 4 --deblock -1,-1 --subme 9

Hi,

I have a problem with certain channel ( JSC HD ), whatever settings I select there's always some kind of noise.

Here's a sample (http://rapidshare.com/files/283475474/11.mkv) of what I mean ( and here video is not really HD, the channel is new and sometimes broadcast in SD )

Maybe you misunderstood me :)
The noise is about video not audio, it's something as watching a classic movie.

well ... open the avs in virtualdub/mediaplayer classic
if you got the same "noise" could be a problem of decoding

Hi buzz, please help me again :-)

1)
I tried to use auto-update in HDC... It says there is an update, 2.2.489.3667, but the version it downloads and installs is the same version number as before, 2.1.471.3569 ...

2) This is "the real question" :-) :

I encoded a movie... If I play DVD , it shows lenght of 1:35:13 ...
Running HDC analyze , it detects the same lenght. Encoding it (never changed anything in HDC options) , I have had an avi file of 1:37:35, with something strange at the beginning that I don't see in the DVD... Scenes without audio, something like a trailer imho... but the problem is that the audio is not "aligned" with the movie...

buzzqw
22nd September 2009, 19:56
1) you should download manually the BETA (few post above)
2) for dvd input: what is your original input file ? video_ts.ifo or vts_xx_1.ifo or vts_xx_1.vob ?

BHH

paolo1983
22nd September 2009, 20:29
I always select the file VIDEO_TS.IFO ... I've always done that for every dvd, since automkv :-( Is it wrong ?

When I click analyze in HDC, I leave selected PGC 1 of 1:35:13 , I proceed and then in the HDC main window I see:

VTS_02_0.IFO
Run Time 1:35:14

So, everything should be OK..
I can try again to encode it, but I don't understand why ...
I've always selected video_ts.ifo and left everything else to HDC :-)

Weird. I'm having the exact same problem as paolo, but I thought the error was due to being a tff source and not knowing the proper settings for deinterlacing it. Now that I think about it, I've had 2 DVD's that exibited this same trend. This one has the "Warner Bros" logo animation at the front, with no sound, and then the movie comes up all out of sync. The other DVD I had was the Foster Home season 2 discs (multi-episode per DVD). What it did was start the audio for the episode during the show intro, causing audio to be out of sync by exactly 59.5 seconds. I was able to manually set audio delay on my own and fix it. I didn't report it at that time because I thought it was due to a funky DVD structure, but now I'm not so sure.

Here's my make report for my latest endeavor:

The encode stoped after the audio encoding section.

Audio encode was fine ... Test Interlace pattern also worked fine .

Good news. With this build, I didn't have any issues checking the "Use Multithread AviSynth". For this test I encoded Gran Torino to mp4 2pass, 2channel AAC.

I'll run a test on The Game Plan as well (currently the only 2 BD discs that I have).

Well, its not a bad rip. Playing the VOBs directly does not exhibit this behavior. Nor does mounting the iso (I rip DVD Decryptor in ISO mode) and playing it in MPC.

I'm attempting a conversion with Ripbot264 and seeing if it exhibits the same behavior.

Edit: Ripbot Conversion finished, and comes out perfect. Thus, I can only assume that the problem in on HDC's end, and not on my rip's end. Sorry :(

I did a reencode of a 1080p movie to 720p as I did several times with AutoMKV before. As in those cases I chose a CRF of 20, but somehow the result only has a bitrate of 1900, with AutoMKV and the same CRF it used a much higher bitrate, especially in a movie like this (Iron Man).
Besides that this is a great tool, but for now I'll switch back to AutoMKV where I can estimate the results in adance. What could be the problem here?

isn't a problem, at all

automkv has a very outdated x264, hdc has a very new x264

x264.exe has changed a lot crf encoding in latest (and not so latest) builds

use the search :)

So does that mean that with this Tool I should use a much lower CRF? As I am used from AutoMKV, also the tooltip for HDConvertToX says that 18 gives quite good results. I had in mind that values between 18 and 22 are common. But as I said, that gave me a very low bitrate (which it did not with AutoMKV). So do I have to use CRF of 10 or something like that for bitrates of about 4000-7000 (like most 720p encodes that are "available" on the internet).

Good news. With this build, I didn't have any issues checking the "Use Multithread AviSynth". For this test I encoded Gran Torino to mp4 2pass, 2channel AAC.

I'll run a test on The Game Plan as well (currently the only 2 BD discs that I have).

Good to know man but a quick question. Are you referring Gran torino from BD source?

Can you post your sys specs and the framerate on multi thread vs single encode if you dont mind?

I started converting my BD on single thread and only getting 6fps which I gotta check with the beta version soon.

thanks

@CYBERSONIC

you should use the crf you prefer, usually 20 is enough
but if you prefere quality wise encoding feel free to use whatever crf you want

Yes, BD source for Gran Torino (I currently only own 2 BD so my tests are always run on the same sources).

AMD Phenom II X4 955BE @ 3.5GHZ
ASUS GTX260
ASUS M4N82 DELUXE NF980ASLI R
8GB OCZ Platinum PC8500 DDR2 1066MHz
Win 7 x64 Ultimate

Framerate on the Multi that I ran last night, I think was around 14 to 17fps. I'm encoding to MP4, 2pass, insane quality, 8500kbs bitrate.

If I recall, it was something like 7 to 11fps on single thread.

I'm not 100% sure on the fps, though, as I don't usually monitor it. Is there an output that tells me what it averaged?

Well, its not a bad rip.

I don't have anymore a report, sorry...
If it can help, the movie that gives me problems is "Codice Swordfish"
But I don't have problems playing vob files...
I think the problem is related to the different lenght of the vob and the avi... They differ 2 minutes, and audio could be out-of-phase of THOSE 2 minutes...
Other movies are OK, BTW ...

Thank you
