...

i am thinking.. why overhwhelming the gui with double options, since i must replicate every switch for standard and save settings ? :mad:

i will trash the proposed change. Point.

i will add support for a INI file. users should mess manually with it.

Am i right in thinking we would edit the ini ourselves to load the options we want everytime the program starts, not had much use with ini files yet, also, will copy audio need to be added? As i use this all the time.

audio copy is present (since is a "audio codec")

Fair enough, buzzqw. Your last GUI proposal plus such .ini serves the purpose perfectly IMHO and is open for future extensions - if needed :)

One suggestion for the #Video section:
Can you add:
CRF Value = 18
CQ Value = 2

Just a question:
The help text for the Final MB Size says "This value is the final MB size of the video". Is this really so, or is it the final size of video+audio+subtitles?

what about this ?

BHH

For me personally it is not impotant whether all these settings are on GUI, or in INI files or in "hidden" TXT files. What am I really missing is the ability to set and save other settings that I always have to set to same values. The most important are encoding settings like encoding method and bitrate or quality for both audio and video codec (e.g. VBR with 0.5 quality for AAC audio and 1 pass quality with 19 CRF for video; I almost always use these values and I always have to set them manually. In MKV were these settings saved by "save settings" for example).

User usually does not need to set (change) them often, so I mean it does not matter, whether it is "save settings" on GUI, or INI for notepad or hidden files. More important is the ability to preset these settings and not the method, how to do it.

Thanks!

this error should be fixed in latest update

are you using the 1.6.292.2659 or newer build ?

BHH

Yes, I am using 1.6.292.2659. I did not realize there was a newer build. I downloaded the latest update from the mirror and that is the version.

Also, I have another question:

Why does the analyze say that my ripped DVDs (SD material) are 1920x1080?

BHH

Still doesn't matter, the analyse file shows my SD material (DVD) as 1920x1080.

Also, I noticed in my final mux (x264->MKV), the Display Aspect Ratio is showing as: 1.5. These are 16/9 (1.7777AR) DVDs.

first beta of ini design looks good!

Would it make sense to include "Save as ..." instead of just "Save"? This would allow us to store several *.ini, based on purpose (supporting the concept of profiles), e.g. one for DVD, one for .mts backup, and so on ....
Just an idea. Never mind if it's too complicated.

noee
24th May 2009, 14:21
I tried my test IFO. It still detects the rez as 1920x1080 (AR1.7778). DGIndex shows it properly at 720x480.

I choose the option "No Resize and Crop". I tried clicking it a few times and moving the slider. Still not working.

Now, when I hit "Generate Encode", Status says "Starting Encoding!!", but DGIndex runs (from the .bat), but it never goes any further.

It is failing on the x264 step. Apparently the AVS file is not present in the working Dir: 'D:\Temp\hdconverttox_vts_01_1.avs'.

Also, I have my working Dir set to another folder, but HDC still creates an empy "temp" folder in it's root and it also creates and empty "temp" folder under my specified working Dir.

I don't understand why it is normal for HDC to create all of these empty "temp" folders. They do not appear to be used.

If HDC starts up with "No Resize and Crop" checked, the slider is not disabled. It's not until you uncheck/check it again that the slider becomes disabled.

Sorry, I'm dial-up. It is impossible for me to send/recv large files.

Here possibly a bug:
I have 20 encoder profiles defined in the HDConvertToX_profile.txt. Works well.

Now it appears that for 1-pass encoding my setting for the quality slider is correctly stored in the .ini as say Video Quality=17, and the crf value (20) is correctly stored as Final MB size=20. Perfect.
However, when starting HDC and loading the HDConvertToX.ini, the initial quality slider setting is incorrect, showing only 10 steps. The quality slider changes to 20 steps after I re-select the Encoding Mode again, but then the crf value defaults to 16.
Something seems to be out of step ... ?

@bhh:
I found the problem with HDC detecting the source rez. My default profile in FFDshow has resizing selected (1920x1080). HDC must be getting that number. When I turn resizing off, it returns the proper rez for SD.

IMO, this is a bug. HDC should not be using the resized value from FFDshow.

buzzqw
24th May 2009, 15:15
this isn't a bug, sorry.

hdc use directshowsource for analyzing file, AND ffdshow is a directshowfilter

if you are "used" to change ffdshow parameters, so.. on hdc check "force ffmpegsource"

BHH

noee
24th May 2009, 15:22
Okay, if you say so, but that seems counter-intuitive to me.

I just tried to Analyze with FFMpegSource and the same result: SD is still showing as 1920x1080.

Also, 2750 broke the Working Dir setting. Temp files are now back to the root of HDC, it's not respecting the Working Dir setting.

Just a note:
One has to make sure to store the .ini in the HDC program directory, because the "Load Custom Settings" will load the .ini from there only (no navigation).

A minor bug: When HDC loads the settings from the .ini, the text under the quality slider may still be wrong / not updated correctly.

24th May 2009, 16:11
It appears even if I choose Force FFMPegSource it still uses DS:

Trim(0,2)

BHH,
Just curious, why would you not go back to usings DGMPGDec for the MPEG2(IFO) decode, therefore, bypassing DS and getting correct source video rez?

This discussion about making things easy for the "noobie" regarding the INI file settings is not consistent with having to change FFDshow Resize settings in order to get a proper analyze from HDC. Does that not seem to be inconsistent from a "noobie" POV?

about ffdshow i understand your question and point of view, but from a developer perspective, relying on dss is easy , more then often the only way to get accurate results.

Okay, just keep in mind, that anybody who uses FFDshow as their DVD decoder and choose a resize != to the source video, will most likely have to change the settings everytime before using HDC.

@buzzqw:
And another (more serious) bug:
When "No Resize & Crop" is activated, the --sar should be updated and not still consider the greyed-out crop values from the preceding file analysis.

@noee
hdc don't flag it as 1.5 but mkvmerge do it

i will look how to hack it

@Sharc

sorry pal, don't understud

the --sar is used only for anamorphic encoding. how anamorphic and no resize will change --sar ?
