Tks. AVISynth filters running out of memory..?? Didn't know that was an issue. With MT on HD I crash as soon as AVS starts to serve into x264, doesn't seem to matter which filters I'm using. I'm struggling a bit getting my new setup to work at full power and still trying to work out what's wrong. When yu transcode to x264 with some basic HDC filtering on HD content, does Avisynth MT work for u?

You probably didn't install MT correctly. You have to put mt.dll in avisynth's plugin folder and replace avisynth.dll in syswow64.

I understand that currently VBR audio encoding and target file size matching don't go together very well, but as said before it did work very well in AutoMKV. I have two questions regarding this subject.
1) Is the architecture of HDConvertToX not suitable for recreating this feature, and if it is, why not implement it?
2) If VBR is not a good idea (q=0.4 was presented as default in AutoMKV, and I never questioned its reasonability), what is a good CBR equivalent bitrate for AAC? E.g. 64, 96, 128 kbps?

automkv does encoding by watching step by step , and so it iwll know the size of audio.. and can "adjust" the bitrate on fly.
HDC will work by adding all needed command line in the same batch file and it don't know how different will be the size of audio respect to how it guessed it..
so.. no, actually not implementable
2) 96 is a good bitrate for AAC audio

Alright I seem to have this bug when I analyse and then do a test interlace pattern on the same video once said "tff" another time progressive.
second issue I have come across is when I run test interlace pattern and then add to queue several clips it only ends up doing audio for each clip
Third issue is size of endfile seems excessive even for CRF 19. for a video song. Started with 259mb and ended up with 257mb Mkv x264 file with AAC 0.4 vbr audio????

Last issue I hope is as a result of wrong type of deinterlace according to the first problem. Can anyone confirm?

Ok maybe I was not clear

I analysed a video the first time it said tff. The second time I analysed the same video it said progressive. I am no sure therefore was wondering if this is a bug.

for the second issue you said "log of deinterlace analisys will be deleted before launching" hoping this will fix the problem

third issue started with a video file 259 MB and ended up with 257MB x264 mkv file. I thought this was excessive file size. I have another video since then I tried. this tine video size I started with was ~ 200MB and ended up with 400 MB file with crf 19. I will post some info but am pretty stuffed with a disc slip and visiting the doctors. Anyway just thought give you a heads up. I dont know much about the HDC and how it passes parameters to other software. There is either a bug in x264 encoding or the parameters HDC is passing on. If I post make report would this help?

about file size.. i cannot help: you should look at command line, BUT remember that using a CRF profile you will never know the final size

Hi Buzzqw,

I've encountered something strange in the beta. I'm converting an MKV at 640x480 to a 320x240 AVI file. The AVI file stats all look reasonable, but the video isn't right. The Video is there and matches the Audio, but it's quite jerky in spots.

Doing the same encode using the non-beta doesn't show this behavior. The output is also about 10% bigger than the beta output. As a test, I did the same encode without MT Avisynth enabled and the problem went away.

Is it possible that the multithreading isn't working right with the new method you are using for encoding from a MKV source? It looks like the decode and encode are happening at the same time, so maybe there is a race condition of the 2 threads? I don't really see much of a speed increase using MT mode anyway, so I'll just avoid using that mode when encoding from MKV files.

I didn't post a report file since the only difference between a good and bad encode is the MT mode. Let me know if a report file would help at all.

Hmm may be I dont understand the process. I ran the "test interlace pattern" it said Source is considered to be tff etc"

The second time I ran the test on the same video it said "progressive video"

For the CRF encoding what I am wondering is how an advanced codec like x264 encode in such a way that it needs more space than a Mpeg2 codec to cover the same quality for the video?

Anyway I am bit confused as you can understand.

Try to post an Avinaptic output of the x264 encode (assuming it's mkv) and we'll see if anything looks odd. I don't remember if there is a log dump feature or if you just have to copy/paste the text.

avinaptic can be found on the web and is freeware and quite useful for doing encoding work.

Newbie here, settling on HDConverttox as best and easiest of 5+ methods I've found online for converting BD & DVD to MKV/264/AC3 files my LG BD390 can stream over home network. (Thanks buzzqw!)

1. One stumbling point - knowing very little about telecine/interlacing/etc., how do I match the "Test Interlace Pattern" analysis with the "De-Interlace Filters" menu options? Can someone please post an exact mapping? (I need X > Y simplicity since I don't know much about this topic.. online manual & guide don't seem to have enough info for newbie, and analysis refers to things like "Progressive NTSC" which isn't even in this menu..)

2. Specifically, my Dune DVD analysis is:

This should be an easy question for someone to answer: I'm not sure why, but I properly converted a few blu-ray files but now it hangs after the 1st pass at 99%. It doesn't matter whether I'm using Xvid or X264, it just hangs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still have the same problem.
The settings are all correct as far as the guides here have shown and I also updated both the Xvid and X264 codecs.
Any ideas? Also, if I need to post more info I will. I'm just not sure what's really relevant here.
I'll just list the basics that I have in there-
-Opened file, analyzed.
-Force DirectShowSource2
-Xvid or X264, in MKV
-2 pass, 5000 Final MB size
-Fast or Medium speed
-OGG audio, no normalize (was having a problem getting it all to mux in a final MKV)
-eac3 is my demuxer and decoder
-2 subtitle tracks muxed in the container

and that's about it. Not sure what happened as those were all the same settings I've used before.

Edit: Thank you buzz for creating the program. When it was working, I was getting excellent conversions with nice and tidy file sizes.

I only have nero 8, but I think the no audio issue was caused by the dvd files, because none of the options I tried gave audio. But I did discover that if de-interlace filters is set to automatic my final video is sped up. What files should I post to figure out why?

Is it possible with HDConvertToX to convert 576i50 MPEG2 material to 576i50 h.264? I'd like to keep the material interlaced. The reason is that I am converting old Amiga demo's, and the scrollbars aren't that nice to look at in 25fps.

i checked the documentation.

as HDC works i should always use Ignore Pulldown Flags (fieldop=2) in dgmulti, because USERS must select to activate the appropriate deinterlace (telecine/film).

i could check if users has select Telecine or Film, and if positive i could add fieldop=1 (Force Film)

what do you thinks ?

i checked the documentation.

as HDC works i should always use Ignore Pulldown Flags (fieldop=2) in dgmulti, because USERS must select to activate the appropriate deinterlace (telecine/film).

i could check if users has select Telecine or Film, and if positive i could add fieldop=1 (Force Film)

what do you thinks ?

Looking at the documentation, maybe a good option would be for you to detect if its PAL and to use fieldop=0 for PAL sources since they don't have pulldown.

Not sure about NTSC but I think your current choice of fieldop=2 would probably be best and then the user has to make the choice. Maybe however add a way for the user to open DGIndexNV with the current source so they can preview it to work out what option they need to choose.

Is HDC still compatible with HD-DVD's. Been trying for days to get it working - to no avail. All sorts of errors. Can do DVD & BR fine. Is there a guide anywhere on exactly what you need to do to make HDC/ffdshow compatible .EVO files?

Tried encoding a MPEG2 DVD Video_TS today with beta 545.

Everything was great until I tried to do a visual crop. it analyzed and the windows that came up were all white, not picture.

Buzz, anything you can think of to cause this. Worked fine on my BR DVD's??

HDC is compatible with DSS, so it's compatible with EVO.. if correct demuxer/decoder is found.
i don't process evo files, but i can suggest to try ffmpegsource

Well, the idea was good, but after analyzing, HDC sees the file as being 25fps, while it's actually a 50fps file, or at least: a normal interlaced PAL file.
If you want, I can give you a link by PM of a file which I wish to convert, so you can take a look.

But I never had to do that in the past and I have converted a lot of movies with this same method. This issue has been going on for the last 2-3 weeks and I am trying to determine what could have caused it. Do you have any idea? Thank you for your help!

afaik the problem is due to audio spanning across multiple vobs in not good way.
usually ripping (or using dvdshrink in reauthor mode) in one single vob fixed it

I found what the issue was. I 've started using the Automatic De-interlace filter about 3 weeks ago and I guess it works on some of my movies (the interlaced ones) and on some others (the progressive ones) it sped up the movie and as a result the audio couldn't keep up. I guess I need to be careful to use the De-interlace filters only on interlaced movies. Thank you for your suggestions buzzqw.
