AC3 in the mp4 container is a relatively new standard. If you are having troubles playing it, either update your player to the newest version or just use AAC.

One thing I'm not clear on with regard to the video encoding options.

Under X264 options, I select -

Encode using: X264 in MP4
Encoding mode: 2 pass

I select Extreme quality on the slider

I enter 8000 in "Manually Set Bitrate:"

Does entering a bitrate over-ride any of the other settings? Should I choose a higher bitrate, or is there some other way of achieving as high a quality as possible?

After deleting all HDC folder and settings, I reinstalled HDC and updated and now it is working again :o . The audio detection still shows as ?? Ac3 though but it processes so its a bit so what just seems strange for a common format file. Quick question is there anyway to import chapters from vob to use in encode?

Whipdancer: for 2 pass, I think you enter what file size you want the movie to be, then it determines the highest VBR to achieve that filesize. I think you want to leave the manual bit rate field blank.

It does that to me on many of the Chinese import titles that I have. As Crono said, I also thought it meant that it could not determine what language it was.

Yeah it must be language on that audio, just curiosity as it encodes fine.

Does anyone know where the hidden options txt file went? I am want to have HDC automatically import chapters from DVD. Since I reinstalled I can't seem to find it.

Edit forget it I am livin in the past, hidden options were removed in favour of editing the ini file.:o

For audio it looks like I ended up with 2ch. I'll have to try to get 5.1 in the next test.
remember to select an audio preset with 5.1. Specifying channels on wmv isn't possibile

EDIT1: Check out the "batch.txt" attachment I just added. I looks like the command to call CUVIDServer.exe can't handle spaces in the path name. It needs quotes around it like the other lines.

Everything looked ok, until the command window closes and there is no MP4 file. I look in the job0 folder and see a 6GB file with h264 extension. The ac3 file is still there as well.
i'll check why chapter isn't extracted

When opening the Video_ts.ifo and selecting the PGC for indexing, it appears that DGMPGindexNV indexes the first *.vob only.
(The standard DGMPGindex spans all *.vobs correctly)

Buzzqw I was trying to make sure the profiles enabled fast first pass in 2 pass mode for new profiles as it seems that the pass I am getting in first pass is slow.

from http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/X264_Settings#fast_1st_pass I was trying to set pass settings. So that my first pass runs with these settings

With the advent of the Preset system in r1177, using pass 1 applies the following settings at the end of parsing the command line:

* partitions i4x4 (if originally enabled, else none)
* me dia
* subme Min(2,subme) (if original value is greater than 2, change it to 2, else do nothing)
* trellis 0
and my 2nd pass with

--preset slow --level 4.1 --bframes 5 --subme 6 --partitions p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,i8x8 --deblock -1:-1 --vbv-bufsize 50000 --vbv-maxrate 50000

I experienced a number of crashes of xvid_encraw for certain sources. I am on Vista. I tried various settings, at the end I found that the crashes seem to be caused by the function -qpel. With -qpel disabled :( the crashes disappeared. Anyone having similar experience?

the current build of x264 has "turbo" mode in first pass ALWAYS.
It's disabled by specifing "--slow-first-pass"
HDC will use turbo in first pass.

It does it automatically. Just be sure to select the IFO file when converting your DVD.

Are you referring to when I convert a DVD? I simply select the Video_TS.ifo (i think that's it) when picking the file. After that I get a prompt from HDC indicating that it's analyzed the ifo file and found the movie/soundtrack.

So when I select Multi Episodes DVD it will automatically read episode chapter files and apply them to muxed output without enabling anything? Or do I need to enable autochapter in hidden options?

you are using DirectShowSource.
Most probably dss isn't feeding frames to encoder.

in advanced options there is the autochapter check

BUT if you want that autochapter is alwasy ON, you must use the ini

anyway, you don't have to check autochapter when working with ifo.
select the correct ifo and hdc will extract the chapter file

if you check autochapter it will overwrite the chapters of dvd

Could you allow multiple videos to be loaded at once? Many times I have to cut a video into multiple parts (as many as 86 once). It is NOT fun building a 86 job queue in HDC (took an hour). You don't need to analyze a script anyway.

Even for videos, a bulk analyze is much more sane (for the lack of better word). This is especially helpful if I'm encoding multiple videos with the same settings.

Oh, don't tell me to use Avisynth, because I need to use different settings for them.

Hi buzz I have a problem. Currently all DVD encodes fine but bluray rips dont work. They seem to encode but in the middle somewhere they stop encoding. First episode I tried gave me this visual basic error saying x264 wanted to terminate unexpectedly around 11%. Then tried the second episode which gave me no error. It seemed to complete first pass but had almost a 0kb file for video in the temp directory. I will post some after I try again with updated version but can you advise me what I should try? I will post make report.

Why can't you make HDC name the output file the same name as the source? Just curious.
