The command line when I select mp3 ABR is thus:

"E: \ HDConvertToX \ applications \ wavi.exe" "E: \ HDConvertToX \ temp \ Candy_Boy_07_mp4 \ hdconvert_audio_0_fullvideo.mkv.avs" - | "E: \ HDConvertToX \ applications \ lame.exe" - - cbr-b 128 " E: \ HDConvertToX \ temp \ Candy_Boy_07_mp4 \ hdencodertox-pid2.mp3 "

The command line when I select VBR mp3 is thus:

"E: \ HDConvertToX \ applications \ wavi.exe" "E: \ HDConvertToX \ temp \ Candy_Boy_07_mp4 \ hdconvert_audio_0_fullvideo.mkv.avs" - | "E: \ HDConvertToX \ applications \ lame.exe" - - cbr-b 4 " E: \ HDConvertToX \ temp \ Candy_Boy_07_mp4 \ hdencodertox-pid2.mp3 "

In the case of VBR,its working but the quality was much smaller than you indicated that would be in vbr above, or you were referring to the AAC abr/vbr?The interface of the application, so I press the button to add the task in the queue, the option returns bitrate management alone for cbr, in the case that I have selected originally abr or vbr.

VBR: please redownload the HDC update (but i haven't a clue :( )
ABR: look at your make report, the audio mode is CBR > ]MP3 Mode: cbr[/B]

Buzzqw, this is the problem with the ABR, I selected ABR, but when it changes by itself account for cbr.The GUI also automatically switches to CBR, where beginning to convert the files, even taking abr or vbr selected, but the abr command line switches to always cbr, vbr already the line of command is apparently correct, but the file is a horrible quality, I will now test this update.
Thanks for you help.

Sorry for my bad English.

abr/crb/vbr change on codec change.

SET abr/cbr/vbr AS last one option before encoding

i can assure that launching encoding don't change audio parameters

Even in this version the problem persists, do as you stated, but the line that goes to the queue that is (I imagine that would be -abr instead -cbr of this line):

"E: \ HDConvertToX \ applications \ wavi.exe" "E: \ HDConvertToX \ temp \ video_mkv \ hdconvert_audio_0_video.mkv.avs" - | "E: \ HDConvertToX \ applications \ lame.exe" - - cbr-b 128 " E: \ HDConvertToX \ temp \ video_mkv \ hdencodertox-pid2.mp3 "

Decided convert to cbr, which is working well.
My goal now is to make the option eac3to function to convert audio, only had a time that worked here, but do not remember version was, Thanks for the help.

O.O , thanks.
But SAP does not provide support for mp3 abr / vbr? My dvd player for 2004 ($ 20) supports this profile.
I doubt if you can get one, is not exactly on the HDC, but you know that the command xvid_encraw I can use to change the FourCC of the file or if the HDC can do it, I want to use the Divx5 FourCC?

buzzqw
9th June 2009, 12:58
not always... for guarantee compatibility is better a cbr approach

if you know that your SAP support vbr/abr.. use it

if you redownload HDC i will no more force CBR on SAP, if user have selected NOT CBR

Hey Buzzqw,
Thought you might be interested in a MT version of FFMPEGSource. Since your program uses it from time to time, and it offers frame accurate seeking, you may want to give this version a spin. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1292966#post1292966

Just something to think about if you are interested.

Edit: Hold up, there seem to be a few minor bugs right now. Wait for a slightly more stable version to come out.
Edit2: Okay, the bug seems to be central to my clip. You may be safe.

update HDC 1.8.340.3020

>added smart SAR: if HDC detects PAL 16:9 SD or NTSC 16:9 SD (usually DVD source) and your output resolution is 720x576-704x576 (for pal) or 720x480-704x480 (for ntsc) proper --sar value will be added to x264 command line (idea taken from RipBot264, Thanks Atak!)
>fixed now hdc will not silently switch to lame CBR when SAP is checked
>added support for avchd and bluray muxing, avaiable only for x264 codec
>added support for copy chapters when encoding in bluray or avchd
>fixed force ffmpeg.exe audio. Now it will process not only the first audio track
>fixed force directshowsource. Now it will process only the first audio track
>fixed mpeg1 input file. Since eac3to is unable to process it correctly, now hdc will force ffmpeg.exe decoding
>fixed mkvextract will no more look for mkvextract in applications folder. You must install MKVToolnix
>other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes

Feature Request:

When you activate the option multitemp to file .ini, which had the option(in .ini) to delete temporary files of them,so to start the conversion of another file, is it possible?

buzzqw
10th June 2009, 13:16
multitemp and delete temporary files.. are a non-sense
or you want keep temporary file, and so activate multitemp OR want delete temporary files, and so don't use multitemp...

For example, put in the queue the conversion of 5 files, mkv> avi (conversion type that most often do), I wanted to delete the temporary file already converted so that the end of a conversion of files, of course I do not I want you to leave this option enabled by default, but so that the user activate it for the archive .ini .

I'm using online translator, so it may be difficult to understand(I read better than write english :) ).

Is is possible to use this program like MakeMKV? that is, just take, say, a DVD and put it in MKV format without changing video or audio characterisitcs? I am new at trying this stuff.

sorry pal, but you don't have to use multitemp EVEN if you encode more then one file.
I don't understand why you want to use multitemp IF you want to delete temporary files :(

first of all dvd must be ripped (or anydvd should run in backgroud), then you can point to fvideo_ts.ifo and HDC will load automatically the movie..
then you can tune hdc to your taste (resolution/codec...)

HDC isn't so automatized as makemkv

Okay, but at least you can add the option to delete temporary files automatically after completion of the conversion in the file. Ini (forget the part about Multitemp)?

Hi buzz,

Sorry for bringing StaxRip up once more, but could you also implement these great features for 2-pass encoding please ?

Staxrip removes the following from the 1st pass (because they have no real value to be used in the 1st pass) :

Remove from preceding passes :
--ref --mixed-refs --subme --trellis --partitions --me --8x8dct --no-fast-pskip

Add to preceding passes :
--subme 2 --partitions none --me dia

Could you think about this please ? This could speed up the 1st pass considerably without degrading encoding quality.

P.S. Is it possible to change the first post to get us to the newest version ?
update HDC 1.8.340.3020

buzzqw
10th June 2009, 15:31
HDC already do some optimization...

it removes/modify from first pass
partitions
8x8dct
trellis to 0
ref to 1
subme to 2
me XXX to me dia

i wil check if is safer to remove mixed-ref too

nice program....when one loads in the ifo from DVD, under the audio tab you can choose AC3. Can you jsut COPy the original AC3 without any re-encoding or is re-encoding a must?

buzzqw
10th June 2009, 16:26
if you select as audio codec "AC3 Audio" you will reencode audio
if you select "Copy audio" you will.. copy the audio stream , and so will be muxed without reencoding :)

it is safe, since mixed-ref requires more than 1 reference frame. you only use ref 1 in your first pass

thanks...i notice that if I choose copy video, the box on top of it (Encode Using) is still selectable. Should it not be grayed out if you are copying video and not encoding anything? Also, when encoding is finished and all CMD windows are closed, it still says Encoding in the bottom of your GUI.

buzzqw
10th June 2009, 19:50
when you start encoding HDC have NO more control of what is happening. and so.. hdc don't know when all job/encoding is finished

hdc will know that you hit start, but don't know when it finish

about greyed with copy wideo : i will check it, but don't warry, on copy video all other settings are ignored

I checked now, \ o / and is then later I tested, thank you.
One more suggestion, I replace their home xvid theather the profile that comes in MeGUi that is:

kboost-100-ostrength 10-oimprove 10-odegrade 10-chigh 30-Clow 15-overhead 0-vbvmax 4854000-vbvsize 3145728-vbvpeak 2359296-turbo-max_key_interval 250-vhqmode 4-quality 6-closed_gop-imino lumimasking-1-pmin 1-max_bframes 1-bvhq-bquant_ratio 162-bquant_offset 0-bmin 1

similar, but some things XD.

Now I have to return to a topic, as I have a 1st pass with different configurations of the second through the file HDConvertToX_profile.txt? I know I already touched on this subject with you, but here is the 1st step in the same speed of the 2nd step, while in Virtualdub I change the settings of the 1st step, and up to 3 times faster, is it possible?

Buzz I tried doing some dvd video. I set deinterlace filter to automatic and it did not deinterlace. I chose interlaced and this time it did it. Should'nt the automatic pick that up?

Some thoughts for the queue. I am a noob so cant even dare to touch the queue since I dont know what I am doing. I simply add to the queue and dont edit it in any form. Like automkv can you show 1 line for noobs and detailed for advanced users. I request this as when I make a mistake with some ten files to add to the queue I seem to second guess myself and start all over again. Would be easier if I only need to delete one line for easy access and usability requirement.

Secondly the biggest mistake I seem to make is naming two items the same in the queue for output. Set up all settings and forget changing the name for the output file and now have a second item in the queue(different video) same filename. I usually use different physical hard drive so that my hard drives arent getting worked up, also most commonly space constraints. Read from one drive and write to separate drive. Now I could keep moving the HDC folder to keep changing my default folder which saves me naming my output as you said but its not practical. I dont have to explain this to you but I suppose I am so that you can consider providing a default location with settings output file names.
thanks

it's in todo list, but a "job" is composed by more then 1 line... isn't easy to remove a single job...

that's way i never specify the output file name :) (and so hdc will create one)

That is what I was saying. For us noobs it would be really good if we have a delete job like automkv

that's way i never specify the output file name :) (and so hdc will create one)

Will explorer this

Originally I asked you what settings I should use for quality and you advised

select the 1 pass quality , with the preset "extreme quality", and be surprised
Can I check what CRF value I use?
thanks

Build: 1.8.354.3062. I am transcoding a DVD that has n LPCM audio track into MKV(x264). I've chosen "Copy Audio". Here is the EAC3To line from the .BAT

post the make report

EDIT: also redownload the hdc update (and retry encoding)

just use Test Deinterlace before encoding, and set deinterlace in accord to test report

buzzqw I am somewhat confused by autotitle. I switched autotitle on because I was trying to get the files tagged correctly. Instead the file name that is produced know is hdconverttox_full_fullvideo.mkv. Sort of far from what I expected.

When this is the make report how come autotitle is creating this name ?

I have a AR issue. I fed a DVD video to HDC "crop obey to AR" unticked and it had some values for crop but this changes wildly if you tick crop obey AR.

Even if you manually set the crop using visual crop the Resizing/resolution does not accommodate the new manual visual crop? For eg. I fed dvd video 704x480 4:3 video full screen so should not have any crop and ticked crop obey AR. It picked top/bottom =0 and left/right = 32 so now I have Resizing/resolution set after analyze to 640x528.

1. Why does it pick height greater than current video height even though I chose obey AR?
When I manually set left/right = 0 the Resizing/resolution changed to 640x480 which is 4:3 I suppose but why the change in width? For me a headscratcher.

2. When copy AR is unticked it picks right top/bottom and left/right = 0 which is correct for this video but now the Resizing/resolution is 704x528

Ok did some more testing

Pick video>analyse
Crop obey to Ar ticked
4:3 video
Res: 704x480
Top/Bottom: 0
Left/Right: 32
Resizing/Resolution: Video comes up 640 x 528

edit directly in in HDC window remove right or left 32 it Resizing/Resolution: now 640 x 496

edit directly in in HDC window remove the other right or left 32(both left and rightnow 0)Resizing/Resolution: now 640 x 480

Same video
Pick video>analyse
Crop obey to Ar ticked
4:3 video
Res: 704x480
Top/Bottom: 0
Left/Right: 32
Resizing/Resolution: Video comes up 640 x 528

This time I click on Visual crop and change both left and right to 0 and the accept and close the visual crop window
Resizing/Resolution: Video still remains 640 x 528.

So I assume HDC is not adjusting as per visual crop

This is first problem.

Second issue is when I remove one of the 32 from left or right it changes from 528 to 496 H which is difference 32, but when I remove second it only adjusts it from 496 to 480 which is a difference of 16. I am not saying this is wrong. I dont know if this is wrong so thought I ring it up

thanks

Hey Buzz it's me again. Still having some strange issues trying to convert my DVD's.. I have a complete DVD collection of the original Twilight Zone series I'm trying to convert. I tried every possible combination of Deinterlace filters and none of them will make a working encode. The file is made and of normal size, but playback shows a black screen for video.

This is the Deint Analysis of the sample vob:

Source is declared tff by a margin of 889/12.
Analyzed 2535 sections of five frames
Found Interlace Sections: 930 36.69%
Found progressive Sections:225 8.88%
Found Telecined Sections: 1380 54.44%
Found Zero Mov: 8.88% 225
Found One Mov: 6.86% 174
Found Two Mov: 54.44% 1380
Found Three Mov: 2.05% 52
Found Four Mov: 2.01% 51
Found Five Comb: 25.76% 653

HDC will simply not work with these DVD's and I have had this same problem with several other movies. From what this shows, the Deint method should be mixed Interlaced/Telecine, which will not work. At least that's the way I interpret the results.. This is the make report for the sample file:

Oddly enough, AutoMKV makes perfect encodes of them, and declares them Telecine after Deint analysis.

I am totally stumped... Got any ideas? I can send you a 50 meg sample to examine if you wish. Thanks for all your help.

Don't use Obey AR.

My recommendation for for DVD backup:
- Tick No Resize & Crop
- Tick Anamorphic Shape
OR
- Don't tick anything. HDC will normally crop and resize correctly.
(You may want to verify the correct cropping by pressing Visual Crop, as auto cropping can fail in exceptional cases).

If you still get a visual distorted picture during playback you may upload a sample clip.

You may also want to google for cropping, resizing, anamorphic encoding etc. to find an answer to your "whys".

Added:
When you do some changes you may sometimes have to point and click the slider of the resizer (without moving it) in order to get the values updated.

If you want to use "Crop obey to AR" for some reason you have to tick / untick it BEFORE "Analyze File". Every time you change its status you would have to repeat the "Analyze file".

don't use crop obey to ar (almost never)

So I assume HDC is not adjusting as per visual crop

When I do a Compression Test HDC extracts the video, audio, subs, indexes the video, then does the compression test. All ok so far.
When I now start the real encode, all extractions and indexing are repeated, although all required files are already available in the workfolder from the preceding compression test.
It's not a bug, but could the duplication of file extraction be avoided in this case? It would just save some time.
