@Espio
BREAK ! FILE NOT SUPPORTED ! LAST TRY WITH FFMPEG!
make sure you have installed all required software, expecially wmvencoder
also weaver4 suggestion is to keep
@Bladeforce
you must force directshow use
in advanced settings check "DSS for video"
@oneaaron
Warning: Encoder failed to retrieve duration attribute from source plug-in.
this message is normal. wmcmd.vbs is unable to get correct time from avs script
I have done the same movie with XviD and it completes but I have audio sink issues.
usually is due to bad rip. is delay constant or will slowly increase this delay ?
@weaver4
thanks!

UPDATE 0.92a AutoMKV 0.92 a (http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV092a.exe)
FIXED: Wrong reported size of demuxed wav audio file
FIXED: Hardcoded subtitle wasn't working (thansk to jellyfish2002)
ADDED: "Allow AVS check" to Save Configuration in Advanced Setting (suggestion by delacroix)
ADDED: "Allow x264 Stats" to Save Configuration in Advanced Setting (suggestion by delacroix)
ADDED: "Hide Subtitle" to Save Configuration in Advanced Setting (suggestion by delacroix)
I have the memory of a goldfish so I'm thrilled to leave some of the memory-work to the computer... that's what they do best !!!
VirtualDubMod crashed twice on me last night and while the audio was complete... I had to manually respond...
only many hours later when I finally noticed the hiccup...
The fact that I'm working on a PC with multiple (family)desktops running simultaneously may go a long way to explaining the problem.
My assembler (http://searchdatacenter.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid80_gci211604,00.html) is somewhat limited to the Motorola 68000 (http://burks.brighton.ac.uk/burks/foldoc/81/75.htm) but it looks like a data MOVE from hex 8b4104 to ecx+04 caused a memory violation !!!

i never meet assembler in my life.. well i meet it.. but we aren't intimate ( i never done, in my several school years, programming lesson. I came from businees & economic degree)
vdub crashed on soundout usually when there are some glitch on audio track.. like crc fails (caused by bad rip...)
you can look at log made by delaycut.. maybe you will find some interesting lines

Did you get any parsing error during the subtitle-VSRip...
It looks like you're encoding from an IFO-mode ripped movie (as opposed to an ISO or directly from a DVD)...
C:\Users\Alpha\Desktop\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO
I prefer to encode from an ISO if subtitles are important.
I use DVD Decrypter and while PGC rips work flawlessly most of the time...
many times the subtitles fail or DGIndex (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1067649#post1067649) only recognizes part of the rip...

I am finding that some DVDs, often older ones, look much worse when converted to H.264, than the original Video_ts files. There is a lot of jaggies and some choppiness at times. I am viewing on a fairly large screen.
Would changing setting help (and what to change,) or is it something inherent in the compression process?

I am finding that X264 excels at the newer stuff while Mpeg2 does really well with B&W...
Don't expect X264 to compress everything equally well...
If you use quality-based encoding... expect some movies to be relatively larger than normal.
If you use filesize encoding... expect to allow larger files for certain, unusual movies.
I generally encode at 'a width of 868 (PAL 16:9)' with CQ-Q18 but older material is often happy with less of both...

Hi, I'm testing this program for a few weeks, all versions, including the latest .92a have this problem.
Whenever I want to convert a some gigabytes big .VOB file into a 1CD Xvid AVI file, AutoMKV always passes bitrate 730 to the xvid_encraw.exe, in both passes.
Any idea why this happens with every VOB i feed it ? :stupid:

I finally did get that shiney new iPod 160 GB Classic last night, so of course it's time to see how it plays video. Well, turns out, plays video just fine, but there's no audio. It's 320 px wide x264 with stereo AAC in an MP4 container made with the iPod profile. It plays just fine in VLC. I move it over with ml_ipod through Winamp (the iPod thinks it's a music video from some unnamed artist) and the iPod plays the video pretty as ever. Just silently.
A little googling turned up this post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5959956), which says the iPod won't play muxed audio and video. My knowlege is apparently not very good, as I have no idea how it could be anything but muxed. A little more searching makes it sound like mp4box just needs a -ipod switch to make an ipod-compatible output file. Checking muxing.bat, I see just that, so the file was made as proper as I think it needs to be. Any ideas on what exactly the iPod is expecting?

No love. I found a sample (http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/248/51/3028921187796478/www.info.apple.com/images/kbase/302892/sample_iPod.m4v.zip) video on apple's site and transferred it over. That video plays fine. I checked MediaInfo between that and what AutoMKV gave me (screenshot (http://lorax3.dyndns.org:15609/MediaInfo_iPod.png)). The only major differences that jump out at me is the inclusion of chapter and VBR versus CBR audio. I ran mp4box without the chapters, and that doesn't play with audio, either.
The CBR audio is a little stranger. Best I can tell, the audio is CBR. mkvmaudio_aac1.bat ends with "--cbr 114688" and dragging the .aac file it generates over to MediaInfo shows it as CBR. I'm not sure where AutoMKV moves audio.aac to audio.mp4, but the audio.mp4 shows as VBR. I tried muxing the .aac with mp4box and the final output still shows as VBR.
Now there's a lot of other things different between the videos. Aspect, resolution, framerate, bitrate, etc, so I hate to fixate on the audio, but it's something I'm having trouble duplicating. Any ideas?

I have not been using AutoMKV to do Constant Quality Xvids because of the huge file size for the results, for example here is a movie done with several tools and the final file size. These are all constant quality with a quantizer of 3.
Avi.Net - 1.9G
StaxRip - 1.95G
AutoGK - 2.1G
AutoMKV - 2.8G
So I changed <BQuantOffset> from 0 to 100 and the size of AutoMKV went from 2.8G to 2.6G still much bigger than the others.
So then I went in to change the Matrix back to conventional H263 matrix but I could not find it. So I ended up changing the Matrix from the Didees SixOfNine-HVS.cqm matrix to XviD-ffvfw default.cqm and the file size went from 2.6G to 1.9G. 1.9G is much more like it!
Is the SixOfNine matrix really that good that it should be worth a 30-40% filesize increase? I don't think so. Is the H263 matrix called something else, or is it not a allowed selection?
Lastly I found that I could not make a copy of the Constant Quality profile and give it another name and use it. Apparently if you want to use constant quality the profile must have a specific file name.

automkv will mux audio.aac in audio.mp4 with this simple line:
mp4box -add audio.aac audio.mp4
please try manual muxing .. like this command line (change fps and path)
mp4box -add c:\movie.mp4 -add c:\audio.aac -fps 25 -ipod filmipod.mp4

That's pretty much what I did, though I tried again, dropping the :par= and :lang= from the video and audio streams. The fps in the generated .bat is 29.97 where the video stream has been IVTC'd back to 23.976. Changing that didn't seem to change anything, either.
I'm going to play around with a few other things and see if I can't narrow down exactly what's going on.

I don't think so.
Do you find that the 1.9 GB Avi.Net encode has, in fact, more quality than the 2.8 GB AutoMKV encode...
I gather that you choose the CQ profile for the very reason that it's consistently constant.
CQ doesn't make infinitely small files... you get what you pay for.
You can still adjust your quantizer so that you get a more reasonably small file.
Not all movies are equal.
Perhaps AutoMKV has judged that this particular movie needs more bitrate to maintain the correct level of quality.
I've got nothing against Avi.Net, StaxRip and AutoGK but perhaps they're trying to sell you Q3 at Q4 filesizes :rolleyes: .
I don't generally use filters (except Lanczos resize) but I recently tried RemoveGrain and my encode was dramatically smaller than a standard Q18 equivalent.
The quality wasn't superior... and so I'm sticking with larger files until I know better !
You can't expect miracles... you're getting all the quality that a 2.8 GB file can deliver (perhaps more) !!!

I could not tell a difference actually. If I wanted a better picture I would change the quantizer to 2.5 or 2 and probably still get smaller files.
I talked to the author of avi.net who was considering changing the matrix for avi.net and he said he could not any improvement worth the 40% larger file size.
But if I now can make my own profile with the Matrix I want in it I am happy, thanks buzzqw.

A quantizer of 2 or 2.5 is hardly worth your while unless you plan to upscale quite a bit, on playback.
In which case, the extra bitrate may go a long way in easing the pain...
I know you want to do the right thing and control the process... but
Have you tried Q4 with AutoMKV (as is) ?

Is it possible to define an area which frames to encode for testing settings ? Let's say i want to encode from frame 1000 to frame 2000.

buzzqw: I always keep two languages of a movie (english and german). I always choose that first language be german, and second english. However, in 80% of all cases the order will be reversed. Although muxing.bat shows DEU as 1st language, then ENG, the AC3 audio stream is the wrong one. So I always need to fix this manually (and do the chapters.txt issue you have on the list ;) ), and then it works fine.
What info do you need to fix this bug?

How does AutoMKV convert DTS files... Are there any files that I could use ?
automkv use avisynth for processing audio, using a combination of nicaudiosource plugin and soundout plugin
the nicaudio is able to decode ac3/dts/wav/mp3/mp2 and soundout can pipe to other encoder (or encode in mp3/flaac/mp2/ogg/ac3..)
@machser
much depend on what is your source BUT there is a working solution. In advanced settings check "last line avs script" and here write trim(1000,2000) for example
please not that audio is fully encoded... so better to not encode it
@MichaelAnders
could you mail me a log and the IFO of this wrong muxing ?

Hi,
I usually convert MKV files into XVID AVI files with "Copy Original" seleted for audio track which copies AC3 sound to AVI file. My network player does not support AVI files larger then 2 GBs and I have to split files.
Option to copy AC3 into WMV file is missing, I would guess becouse WMV audio does not support it or something. My question is how can I transfer AC3 5.1 audio from original MKV file while encoding into WMV? Is it possible at all?
Thanks,
G

Yeah, I normally use Q3 with XviD and I think it looks great on my setup. I generally set the width to 640. But it also looks great with the files that are generated by avi.net, staxrip and autogk using Q3 and they are much smaller. But, I will try Q4 on AutoMKV and see how it compares.

well, the source would be an ifo with its depending vob files. I tried it and it worked as you described...would it be possible to add this by adding a tick box (on/off) and two text fields (defines from-to frames) or so ?
Would it be possible to integrate that feature with a tick box (on/o

I'm encoding a 2.5 min mpeg2 test clip. When I choose the 2-pass balanced MKV/X264 profile the encoding is good.
However if I choose either 1-pass fastest or one pass high performance, the video plays at about half normal speed (the audio sounds correct).
The two-pass encoding takes about 4X video length for encoding time. I have a simple batch file that sources the mpeg2 through dgindex and a simple AVS script into ffmpeg to generate an Xvid/Avi. This encoding takes about 0.6X video length and I can't see much difference in video quality between the X264 and and Xvid. :confused:
Thus unless I can get the faster (1-pass) profiles to work, I have little incentive to use MKV/H264 ( and this bothers me because I know that's the more advanced codec/container! :rolleyes:)
Any ideas? And thanks!
Edit: Well I can't blame the problems on the encoded 1-pass files. They play correctly in VLC player. Before, I was playing them by serving them back to my TV through my TiVo using pyTivo transcoding server (http://pytivo.armooo.net/). pyTivo uses ffmpeg to transcode the files back to tivo-compatible mpeg2 and stream them to the tivo. Apparently there is something different about the 1-pass files that ffmpeg does not handle. I've tried two recent versions of ffmpeg, r10464 and r10908. Both have the same problem with the one-pass files.

you can try using the preview window in advanced settings
there are the possibility to trim even here
anyway remember that automkv is an encoding gui
my preferred way to test some encoding it to manually do the d2v, by selecting in dgindex a portion of vobs, then feed automkv with this d2v

1. The download package you gave says it is r11071 but the program says r11050 when it runs (see above).
2. The ffmpeg you distribute with AutoMKV is r99xx (can't remember the xx numbers).
3. The download links to AutoMKV 0.92 actually download the identical package to 0.91 (is that intended?).
I don't know if the ffmpeg warnings are a clue to a problem but the 2-pass MKV/H264 video that transcodes correctly also gives the exact same warnings. :confused:
I see the input/output audio sampling rates are different. Wonder if that could trigger the problem?
Do you think I should report this on the ffmpeg bug list?
buzzqw

you can safely ignore that messages while decoding
it's ffmpeg not able to parse correctly the header of mkv
not a big problem
2. The ffmpeg you distribute with AutoMKV is r99xx (can't remember the xx numbers).
automkv use ffmpeg only for decoding audio files to wav, so the build it's not much important
The download links to AutoMKV 0.92 actually download the identical package to 0.91 (is that intended?).
the 0.92 isn't a full package but a simple update , so download the full 0.91 and then update to 0.92b
I don't know if the ffmpeg warnings are a clue to a problem but the 2-pass MKV/H264 video that transcodes correctly also gives the exact same warnings.
ffmpeg should give the same messages for 1 pass or 2 passes encoding...
anyway you can bug the mailing list of ffmpeg.. but don't be so impatient of valids answer ;)

Yes, that's what I suspected! Maybe I'll just wait and hope they fix it. :cool:
My mpeg2 clip is at 2.7 Mbps. I'm encoding to 640x480 with 1050 kbps video bitrate. I don't see much difference between the 2-pass balanced MKV/X264 (AutoMKV) encoding and the Xvid that I do with my batch file (dgindex, AVS, ffmpeg). However the MKV/X264 takes at least four times as long to encode. How do I realize an advantage with X264, which is supposed to be superior?
Should I be able to encode the X264 at perhaps half the video bitrate (525 kbps) and get the same video quality as the Xvid at 1050 kbps -- or what?
EDIT: Think I just answered my own question. Made the 2-pass encoding at 525 kbps and the video quality was about equal to the Xvid encoding at 1050 kbps -- but the file size was cut in half, an important advantage since I'm archiving on HD. The encoding speed was a little faster than before too. (As you have guessed by now I'm not viewing this on a large HDTV! -- It's actually a rather mediocre quality 27" CRT TV, 4:3)

Hi!
I`m playing around with AutoMkv now for some weeks, and the only problem that is left for me with this really great tool is that the output file size is always too large. I tried 3 different movies to recode with x264 & muxing into mkv: first one had 5 GB and the second one had 5.5 GB, the third around 5GB, but I selected 1 DVDR !
Played around with "Auto adjust crf" and Custom %Comp Check, but no change. I think these options are only for auto resize and I want a fixed width of 1280

First of all Welcome to the Forum!
well spotted bug!
the bitrate don't compute the audio size. this problem only occur when dealing with TS files
could you please try this build and report back ? :thanks:

the "process this ifo" option is due to this case..
What would be the disadvantage of always using this option?

Wow thanks for your ultra-fast response. :-)
I will try the new version tonight, when I am back from work, and will report as soon as the recode has finished!
Thanks in advance...chris

@trott
if you know what ifo to select, it's your option
normally automkv will select the biggest ifo, but in a multi vts dvd "process this ifo" is the right option
@breadfan
i will wait!

I tried 0.92c but the problem seems to remain. The encode on my machine is not yet finished, but at 85% of the secondpass the file size of movie.mp4 is already 3.819.380 kb, so the final size will be s.th. around 4.493.388 kb without audio.
Here's the start of the log, I will post the rest tonight, when the encode as finished:

I have a special problem in the TODO. ;)
At the first start (VirtualDobMod wasn't started before on that pc) encoding stops at the point Vdub should be started.
Normally a welcome screen would be opened, but here is this window hidden by AutoMKV.
My idea: at the first start of AutoMKV should VirtualDub started, too. - User have to click on this welcome screen.
Thx.
