the filter bos is editable... just "concatenate" the filters.. like

undot().blur().removegrain(mode=2).degrainmedian().

I'm trying to encode superman w/ neroaac, and when it finishes the encode process for the first audio track, it complains about it being invalid (giving me the "do you want to stop" yes/no dialog). I can play the resulting .mp4 file just fine in media player classic, so unsure whats going on.

anyone else seen this?

buzzqw

if you got this message most probably something were wrong in encode

check the log, but i am sure you will see many and more "break file not supported"

install all required software as posted in first post

BHH

P.S the encode was fine at end because it was done by ffmpeg :)

I see what the problem is now. It's not track 1, it's track 2. For some reason track 2's ac3 file isn't being demuxed by dgindex, so there's nothing to be encoded, so erroring out.

It works fine w/ the dgindex included w/ AutoGknot.

Thanks.

Another question, Actually I use 2_pass_insane_quality with lanczosmtplus resize to 1368 and RemoveGrain(Mode=2) filter.

The result is ok, but I'm wondering if I can get a better result with another profile and different filter?

Thanks for your help.

2 pass nero aac encoding still not working ?

I have been trying the 2 pass encoding, this is what happens:

1. In advanced options I click on "2pass", it automatically selects "-br", then I close the advanced window.
2. In the main window I change the bitrate to 64k
3. I start the queue

4. the audio encoding part now starts with the volume normalizing
5. then it encodes 1 pass. It is encoding directly into mp4 (audio.mp4 is written), but I see no temporary wave file in the temp dir. There is no 2nd pass encoding after the 1st pass is done.

Also, when doing 2 passes aac, it would be nice to see the encoding window's title change (1st pass/2nd pass), as it does with the x264 window title.

Other question...the fps of my dvd are 29fps and I want to lower that to 23.97fps, it is a good idea and it's possible?

I want to know if it will take less time to encode because encoding and resizing to 1368, it take generally 36 hours on a core2duo computer.

@koolyce
you can try limitedsharpenfaster as resize

the fps of my dvd are 29fps and I want to lower that to 23.97fps

just select "FILM" on interlace settings

@Bigmango
the problem was only using queue, fixed in this build

...Use MPC, part of the CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/) and try again....

O.K., tried MPC.

The movie was Amarcord, with English subtitles (not embedded,) ripped to mkv, constant 18.

While playing, in the MPC menu, Subtitles is grayed out.

If I go to Filters and select DirectVobSub (auto-loading version), I can see the following checked: Show Subtitles; Subtitle (embedded); and Original Picture.

So far, with the above checked, NO subtitles are showing up in MPC.

The only way to bring them up, is to go to the MPC menu, then select Filters, and at the bottom of the Filters sub-menu I see a tree with the path to the Amarcord mkv file on my NAS.

The path has a sub-menu, which shows:
V: Amarcord [Undetermined] (checked)
A: [Italian] (checked)
S: [English] (unchecked)
No subtitles (checked)

If I check S: [English], the subtitles appear.

So, the subtitles are in the mkv, but WMP11 doesn't see them. Neither does PowerDVD.

MPC sees them as described above, but that doesn't really help much if I am using Vista MCE:-( Kind of a big issue.

How can I make this work in WMP11, and thus in MCE?

Thanks!

P.S. I'll try ripping Amarcord with "Hide Subtitles" unchecked, since if I remember correctly, this way they showed up in Vista Media Center by default. Then I'll try to disable them with the remote. Will let you know.

Hey guys,
I have an Apple TV and a ton of .avi's from my digital camcorder that I would like to transfer over to .mp4. I have used autoMKV .83 successfully in the past to convert these files. I recently downloaded .90 and have yet to make this work.

A couple things that are happening...

1) in some cases, the encoding process is successful and I see a full .mp4 file in the destination folder. When I open it, I see video but no sound.

2) in other cases, I have an error that pops up in the encoding process saying "MP4box.exe" has stopped working.

Another weird thing...typically the only "movie" file I actually get after encoding is inside the "temp" folder. I believe the final video is supposed to stand alone outside the temp folder, correct?

Is there any distinct differences between .83 and .90? I haven't messed much with the Advanced Settings other than to do the anamorphic and set height/width. I also have Vista if that means anything. Would really appreciate some guidance. Thanks.

istalling haali media splitter give a good control of subtitle load/play/hide

btw.. Amarcord ("i remember" in english, but "amarcord" is "i remember" in local dialect ) is a very great film!

@koolyce

i suggest to try. personally i prefer limitedsharpenfaster

@rlp2955
yes.. the problem is with Vista

in some cases, the encoding process is successful and I see a full .mp4 file in the destination folder. When I open it, I see video but no sound.

the directshowsource of avisynth 2.5.7 seems have some problem with Vista.. try downloading a directshowsource.dll of avisynth 2.5.6

2) in other cases, I have an error that pops up in the encoding process saying "MP4box.exe" has stopped working
fixed in next release. Just download mp4box 0.4.4 and use it

BHH

It sure is a great film, and it looks very good on last year's Criterion edition:-) It's a new transfer and the movie looks better than I've ever seen it.

I do have haali (I use K-Lite Full) and did play a little with the subtitle options. I can set haali so it works for most material, but there are times when I would like to turn on the subtitles even on an English-language movie (like Snatch:-)

I was wondering, if it is possible to rip to H.264 in a standard way, so that the subtitles can be toggled at will with the remote, across players, just like on Video_ts? Don't know if this is even possible with H.264 and mkv, but if it is, it would make the rips perfect.

Thanks!

both mp4 and mkv support graphic subtitle.. as one ripped from dvd

the main problem is that splitter must support also this features, and as far as i know haali support this kind of sub

the only limit i think is on the player... Are you sure you cannot use MediaPlayer Classic ?

BHH

Yeah, Vista MCE will only use WMP11:-(

But I am wondering why PowerDVD 7 also has trouble with the subtitles? Both WMP11 and PowerDVD are able to play and toggle the subtitles of the original Viddeo_ts rips, but cannot toggle them when converted to H.264 mkvs. Basically, on either WMP11 or PowerDVD, if I convert with AutoMKV's Hide Subtitle setting, the subtitles are hidden regardless of being turned On or Off in the player.

I am a noob at this, so I may be totally wrong, but I also notice that when playing the mkv in MPC, the subtitle toggling also doesn't work in DirectVobSub. In other words, even when show subtitles is selected in DirectVobSub, they remain hidden. Is DirectVobSub on what the other players are relying as well?

buzzqw

the hidden subtitle are a features of matroska.. so is activated by matroska splitter.

if in the splitter the subtitle is ON -> directvob sub will display it
else ... not

try installing haali media splitter on MCE

I think his problem would be not having access to filter menus in MCE. The alternative would be to set the Haali splitter to display a tray icon so he can switch subtitles via the tray icons menu, but that would require that mce or wmp11 be windowed. A real solution would be full support of mkv in mce, but we all know microsoft won't do that for us. ;)

I still don't see why installing Media Player Classic would be an issue though... It's not MCE, but it DOES work for everything you want to do.

zacoz

I think it probably comes down to Zow wanting to use the remote from across the room to control the player, including subtitles. That may be why he feels tied to MCE. ;)

Zow

Thanks, everyone.

Yep, I have a dedicated HTPC, which is pretty much always showing MCE, and is operated by a remote virtually all the time, except when I am ripping a DVD or upgrading.

Following buzzqw's suggestion to play with haali, I've set it up so it shows English subtitles automatically, except when the movie language is English, in which case it hides the English subtitles.

This works for 98% of movie-watching situations, so I think I am happy. For the rare instances like Snatch, when I might want to turn on subtitles even though the movie language is English, I guess I'll have to go to windowed mode and force the subtitles On.

I do think you are correct and the problem is that MCE does not support mkv, so perhaps I'll send them a whining message urging such support. Who knows, maybe if they get enough, they'll do it, perhaps in Windows 2020:-)

:thanks:

On my deinterlacing question. I read wizboy11's message regarding deinterlacing, but I am trying to understand this better.

Most DVD movie files, and thus Video_ts rips of these files, are kept at the original 24fps, progressive.

The way I understand it, the reason why we turn on deinterlace, is so that we can convert the material for NTSC monitors at 59.94Hz, or PAL at 50Hz.

But, if the TV I am getting is capable of 1080p/24 (which basically means that it can do 120Hz, a multiple of 24fps,) then I am wondering why do I need to deinterlace while converting?

If turn deinterlacing Off, then the resulting mkv would remain at 24fps and the monitor, which is capable of showing 1080p/24, would simply do 3/3 pulldown.

The way I am thinking, this would eliminate a processing step, and theoretically, preserve better quality.

Am I wrong?

Hi,

I'm sure someone has asked this already, but I don't wanna have to browse through 200 pages, so here is my question, a quick answer will do.

I have the lastest XVID encoder installed, and yet, whenever I try to encode a movie with XVID on a MKV container, it doesn't work. It encodes the audio and then it just stops. It works with the AVI container, but I want MKV, and with that one it just stops after the audio, like I said. Anyone else had the same problem? Please, help. Thanks.

It allows one to change subtitles, audio streams, etc. in Vista Media Center, as well as to FF/REW mkvs.

Just in case someone else is using mkvs in Vista Media Center:-)

mine seems to be doing the same thing, but stops after audio encode, no matter what I choose for other options.. yet I can encode with nero recode or autogk without any problems.

I've tried reading up in this thread to see where I might have went wrong however i can't find it. I've tried on 3 different pcs between xp professional and i can't seem to get this to encode anything (avi/mkv containers). (this is with automkv .90c) I've posted only the avi problem - hoping i just have a setting wrong that i'm doing this wrong with:

It gets up to the Virtualdub:

"Cannot open file "movie.avi":
The system cannot find the file specified.

I have included upto where i think the error might be from:

I've done some 720p transcoding with the WVC1 CQ profile I made. There seems to be real difference in end result with performance 40 vs 60. As in, you notice less artifacts, cleaner picture, etc.. Or it's just the source was better to start with :p

On the other hand, 60 needs about 2.5x more time than 40. Wouldn't try encoding full HD-DVD that way. At least not without quad-core upgrade.

By the way, what about that way to specify WMV 6-channel without going to advanced menu every time?? Shouldn't "original" use 6-channel if the source is 5.1? How about add "multi-channel" or "5.1" option to the audio drop-down?

.91 release would be nice too, if only to get rid of the "copy blabla to system32??"..

I've encountered issues recently when trying to convert TV Series episodes from a DVD previously ripped in full to the hard drive. The problems occur when the episodes are contained in different PGC's within the one VTS.

I've been selecting "Process this IFO" then selecting the input IFO. Select PGC appears with the drop down to select the PGC you want, but there is no longer a tick box on the Advanced Settings tab to force selecting just the specific PGC (like there used to be).

When processing, all the PGC's are being converted, so I end up with an mkv with very tiny dimensions containing 4 episodes instead of 1 (due to autoresize and a fixed 1/2 CD size).

Not sure which version this started occurring with as it's been a while since I last processed such a DVD.

Anyone else encountering this or did I miss a crucial design change and it's working as intended?

buzzqw
31st October 2007, 11:54
the pgc processing is changed

case one: dvd already ripped:
if you select the first pgc all dvd is processed
if you select not the first pgc ,then only this pgc is processed

case two: dvd to rip
is ripped (and then processed) only the selected pgc

I'm going to try the 0.91 release you just put out. I tried a quick encode of a 700mb chunk, it looked like it was starting to convert the video.. going to try the full movie now.

will post results when I get off work.

Hi all,

I've had success encoding x264/aac .MKV movies from DVD source files with past versions (0.89) but success has been patchy (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!). Will try 0.91 soon, but thought I'd try and figure out what's going on anyways:

I'm using Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and considering I've successfully encoded in the past, that doesn't seem to be the problem. Encoding audio with neroaacenc.exe seems to be problematic - the encoding process breaks down before the video encoding stage. I'll post the a sample .log file so that people that know much more than I do about AutoMKV can spot the problem :-)

CPU: Core Duo T2400 / RAM: 1526Mb

Thanks!!

case one: dvd already ripped:
if you select the first pgc all dvd is processed
if you select not the first pgc ,then only this pgc is processed

OK, understand why it's doing it now, and seems I'll be able to process all but first episode. Guess I'll have to rip the first episode on it's own (single PGC) - bit of a hassle.

Can I make an couple of alternate process suggestions - at your discretion (as it is your program and your time).

Have an additional item in the dropdown that shows the total combined time of all the PGC's in the VTS - thus when it is chosen the whole VTS is processed, or if the others are chosen it only processes that specific PGC. So for a VTS with 4 x 45 min episodes, the dropdown will have:
3:00:00
0:45:00
0:45:00
0:45:00
0:45:00

Or have a tick box that appears below the "Select PGC" label with "All" next to it. When ticked, all PGC's in the VTS will be processed, otherwise only the one selected.

I guess there was a reason you changed it from having the PGC tick box on the "Advanced Settings" tab in the first place, but for me, the way it works now is less intuitive and a hassle.

BTW, must say thanks for the amount of time you spend on the program, and also particularly here on the forum. :thanks:

0.91 works fine with FFMpegSource.dll now, still has a problem with warpsharp.dll

buzzqw

don't know why wharpsharp crash for you

but if you don't use it (or don't use limitedsharpen) you can safely remove it from filter directory

are you sure you don't have another wharpsharp.dll in your avisynth directory ? (like c:\program files\avisynth2.5\plugins...)

nope, it's the only one on the system, and no I don't use it.. just seems strange it would still try to load something that isn't needed... or I missed an option somewhere :P

This program is absolutely the best I've played with soo far...
Thank you for taking the time to write such a great program.

I'm sorry to bring this up but I have a problem with output.
Utilizing the MKV container and choosing "Disk Setting" 1 and a size of "whatever", it spits out hundreds of 1.XMB files.
If I choose XVID container it NEVER does this.
So my question is WHY?

On my most recent project...
I put in a value of 1800 and it outputted 1151 small files!
If I choose 1/3DVD it outputs 1 file.

Is this a bug?

I would really want to choose the size I want

Thanks for responding...
I had already tried deleting the automkv.ini file and that did NOT work. It still did it.

I will try with version 0.91 and will let you know the outcome...
Thanks again

in automkv.ini there was a split size parameter at 16mb .. try searching 16 in file

but better to work with 0.91 :)
