Hey Buzzqw.
I've got my hands on an anime dvd9 and it has 5 chapters on it bu automkv wont see them, it will recognize it as 1 2h movie.
What could be done here so that i can split it in episodes?
Since they're all registered as a single PGC... it might be a solution to use DVDDecrypter (http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/AutoMKV/DVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe) (or equivalent) and rip the individual chapters... remember to rename the VOB and IFO alike...

I should add that I had no joy including subtitles in my encodes with this method...

The epis aint in separated vobs. Each vob has 19min of video and each episode has over 25. That is the problem. :S

Btw, Automkv has decided i have to use a bitrate of 131 but i want something a bit higher like 636 ^_^
I tried changing filesize but that just wont work, i tried in use last line command adding a --bitrate 636 but didnt work either, what can i do?
This dvd is driving me mad :S

also... could be a problem of size of AUDIO ...

--bitrate 636
much simplier... in advanced settings check "Specify bitrate" :)

Sorry for the newbish question but is it possible to construct a MPEG-4 SP profile from one of the existing XviD profiles in AutoMKV as they are MPEG-4 ASP is it just a matter of editing a profile to disable certain features ?

If anyone has already made such a profile and would share it I would very much appreciate it or does one of the existing XviD profiles already fulfil this ?

Chapters are a subset of a PGC... you could only have 1 PGC but several chapters relating to each episode.

This has no bearing on the size of individual VOB's

.... perhaps if you set your output destination to someplace else you'll only have to authorize them once, since then the temp folder will overwrite itself everytime and the filepath for the VBS scripts wont change, keeping them on Norton's Whitelist (if it has a permanent whitelist, that is).

That seemed to work to stop nortons from appearing.Thanks.
Now a different problem. After trying to play a recently encoded WMV file with Windows media player, I get an error of, CAVIStreamSynth: System exception - Access Violation at 0x0,reading from 0x0.

Thanks,so thats why the audio doesnt get merged because nortons is stopping it?
Yes.
Also why is Norton not a good AV.
Norton AV is an example of software that used to be real good but isn't anymore. Peter Norton hasn't written any code for it in years. Nowadays, Norton AV is more known for taking up excessive system resources, being hard to control (poor UI), not "disabling" completely when you think it is, and being hard to remove easily without hosing your system, or having it hose your system for you at some point on its own.
Isn't it just doing its job by alerting me of a script?
I think this is one of those grey areas where we expect the software to be a little bit "smarter" and not give false positives or get in the way when we are trying to get work done.
I think the idea here s
In my version of Nortons(2002) there is an option to turn off script blocking i'll try that but won't that expose me to potential harmful scripts?
Yes and yes. Security is always a trade off between safety and convenience. I would personally not be hugely worried about malicious VB scripts though.

that's quite old, i suggest to upgrade to 2007
Norton has made quite strong progress
I would disagree. The problem is it is the newer versions (like >2004) that are the ones causing the most problems with corrupting systems. I had 2002 and I just kept buying renewals for my subscription (not upgrading) which would seem silly to most people because Symantec was only charging USD$5 more for an upgrade to the current verses a plain sub renewal. Then one year, I was told Symantec was no longer supporting NAV 2002. The only thing I could do was upgrade. And (big shocker here ) the $5-over-sub-renewal upgrade price was no more. They wanted $69  to upgrade now! Well, I could have gone online and bought a boxed copy of the current Norton AV for $19.95 or even free some places when they have specials, but I was sick of having to pay a yearly fee for protection from Microsoft's lousy security standards, so I downloaded AVGFree, and it worked fine for me overall.

But then, I am not your average internet user (I do tech support for a cable internet company). I think it would work for most users who down download and install stupid crap all the time. I only use Sophos now because its free.

Hey, he's having the same issue I was having with Bleach!

Go to advanced settings, change the Deinterlacer from "Auto" to "Decimating" and Field Order to "TFF" and see if that works. You might want to try making a D2V of a short period of time (3-5 minutes) of a high action scene to test it out.

I haven't caught the last episode of Eureka Seven yet, I have it on tape here (just got back from a trip).

Edit: Oh wait, I wasn't reading closely enough. Are you talking about the black border at top and left edge. That could require manual cropping to remove. I thought you were talking about the interlace effects.

You might consider using the CQ-CRF profile... which will give you a consistent result rather than squeezing 1 episode and over-compensating on another...

<BitrateQuantizer>18</BitrateQuantizer>
18 is pretty much the best quality while 22 is less... downto 30 and so on... It only entails 1 pass which should save on time-to-experiment...

I was reading the time.avs wich i suppose is the main .avs for encoding and there was no deinterlace line there :S

There goes another issue.
When i was getting the frames for the episodes, i made the d2v and opened it with megui script creator so that the preview video frame would show in that screen it says to me that the last frame from episode 01 is 42768 but when i finished encoding it with automvk i noticed that 42768 is recognized as 30min of video.
How come this mismatch would occur? Is there any way for me to verify the frames for the epis on automkv to make a correct trim cut?

NVM, just figured a way to solve it with DVD Decrypter.

Can AutoMKV rip the same audio track twice...
I like to pass-through the original AC3 5.1 surround audio track but often a stereo-only version, sounds better and louder, on a stereo system.

I haven't tried this but could AutoMKV pass through (copy original) the main track and under 2nd audio track, convert the same track to stereo-mp4 aswell... and then mux both into the final movie ?

where do you see this information ???
if you feed a d2v file of 42768 frames you will got 42768 frames encoded... BUT if you decimate your file to 23.976 you will got a 29min.42sec encoded file, and this is correct

let's automkv mux and check the syncro!

No need to thank me. I was having the same problem (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=990757#post990757) about three pages here before you showed up and wizboy11 helped me out.

As for CQ-CRF, i was using it since the begining because i wanna backup the episodes so i can get that damn 9gb vobs outta my HD fast ^_^
Use the rip by chapter option delacroixp mentioned earlier. I just take the DVD and watch it, flipping between chapters to count which ones make up an episode. Then by ripping by chapter you can get just the chapters you need for a certain episode, saving disk space.

Anyways, i used dgindex to get the frames for each episode :P
I was setting start and endpoints based on cells as I didn't need to look at frames then. The begining of one cell would be the start of the episode, and the end of another cell later would make up the end of the episode. Oh, and I do NOT recommend putting the VOB's on an external drive. I tried that and had trouble with the drive letter changing between encoding sessions.

most of this interlace issue will be resolved with the new preview panel. In preview panel both filters and deinterlacer requested are applyed. So you will see if the deinterlacer is correct or not
Awesome. I didn't know interlacing would be covered in this, too.

I just tried the preview function. The "buffering" message should not be a button since it it not a user selectable element. Also, there should be a cancel feature on it. The input I gave was not readable (said it had some error on line 41) and now I seem to be stuck. The preview window is still open and says buffering, but I cannot close it (no close box) and I cannot cancel it.

So went back to AutoMKV's window and picked an IFO source (instead of D2V). It opened a new preview window (old one is still there) and I'm getting the same error I think:

AviSynth failure!

Yes, first try was with a D2V.

Very interesting. I reinstalled AVISynth and the preview pane worked for the first D2V file I tried after launching AutoMKV again. But subsequent tries and it is failing again. I tried quitting and restarting AutoMKV but it is still failing.

also i suggest you to use the last update 0.81b (look at first post)
Tried .81b still no audio in the WMV file

other audio encoding (like xvid+mp3 in avi/mkv) is working ?
yes audio works when I encode to xvid

install ffdshow
automkv use the default directshow decoder and probably your decoder isn't enough

install latest ffdshow http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow-tryout/ffdshow_beta2a_20070322_clsid.exe?modtime=1174574315&big_mirror=0

installed latest ffdshow from link and still no audio in the WMV file.

I unistalled media encoder 9 and reinstalled, and the encoder itself still doesn't encode the wav file to WMA.
If I use the WMA plugin in Winamp I can encode the Wav file to WMA.

please try opening the movie.avs (in temp folder) in media player classic (or virtual dub)

can you see and ear the movie ?

is yes something is wrong on your wmv setup

here http://automkv.wiki-site.com/index.php/Installation there are the needed files/links to setup the wmv encoding
as first try install http://www.64k.it/andres/data/w/wmfdist11.exe

I'm encoding a BBC WW II, documentary on Hiroshima.

It's got 3 extras listed in a 3rd PGC or IFO... but if I load the IFO, AutoMKV reverts to the main IFO... in other words it refuses to load 'VTS_03_0.IFO' ... (the 1st IFO is empty at [00:00:0])
If I rip the individual chapter... DVD Decrypter strips off the header packets and I can no longer encode the subtitles...

I love subtitles... what do you suggest... ???

:):D:eek:
Pascal

btw
Opening the chapter preview obviously doesn't work either since it only sees the main IFO...

so you cannot ear audio ...

even in media player classic...

a lot strange since is a wav file...

have you other audio decoder beside ffdshow ? (like ac3filter...)
