CQ encoding mean that all I and P frames are at constant quantitizer, the B frames are NOT at constant quantitizer other values is taken like Quantitizer ratio and Quantitizer offset

<BQuantRatio>162</BQuantRatio>

The "Quantizer ratio" setting determines how many more times the B-frames should be compressed compared to P-frames (the higher the value, the higher the quantizer setting and therefore the more compressed the frame is).

<BQuantOffset>100</BQuantOffset>
The "Quantizer offset" setting determines the quantizer value to be added to B-frames compared to surrounding P-frames (so a setting of "1.00" would add "1.00" to the quantizer value of the B-frame, again the higher the quantizer, the more compression used).

Where do I find the <BQuantRatio>162</BQuantRatio> and <BQuantOffset>100</BQuantOffset> settings...
there's no mention in the CQ profiles... except possibly <BframeBias>0</BframeBias>

This leads me to my next question... are there CQ profiles set-up specifically for Q22... I never use Q18 and they might be more 'tweaked' for Q22 usage ???

PuzZLeR (http://forums.divx.com/forum/viewTopic.php?id=3517&page=1) has discovered a similar anomaly, using a somewhat more simple though equally effective method.

I tried to download DivX DRF Analyzer - 0.9.5 (http://www.geocities.com/analyzerdrf/) without success... though it is outdated anyway...
What software do you use to test your encodes... ???
However, I think you are probably better qualified to handle the 'mystery and mayhem' ... since you got me interested in CQ encoding to start with...

CQ encoding has a ring of purity which now seams tarnished... but it still has the 2nd great virtue of "saving you time, saving you money" (by doing only 1 pass).

I used avinaptic, which buzz told me about.

I want good quality video, I don't care what size it comes out. So I use CQ, but I am about to just start coding 1000kbs for 640 9x5 movies and 1300 for 640 4:3 movies and forget it.

Buzz,

The picture quality is not nearly as good as those that maintain a constand DRF, like avi.net and autogk.

If what you said is correct why do avi.net, autogk, staxrip, mpg mediator, Dr Divx, and all the other programs do it as a constant dRF regardless of the frame type? Is it possible to change the profile to do this?

stop! ffdshow is a decoder !
you must install it and USE when PLAY the movie! not when encoding :)

[QUOTE=you must install it and USE when PLAY the movie! not when encoding :)]

Hmmm...the movie is ultimately being played by a Disney MixMax, a handheld media player for kids. So ffdshow isn't part of that equation.

Thanks though...I'm learning more every hour.

that strange but not impossible, automkv normalize the audio till no artifact is audible.
use ffdshow as audio decoder and check volume

u can try installing Windows media encoder 9 HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx) and then the Vista hotfix HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929182)

it is SUPPOSED to fix that exact problem, but for my case it didnt. maybe you'll have better luck

EDIT: I just started a thread HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=123750) about my problem, so if that doesn't fix your problem, please post over there to show that its not an isolated incident (hopefully anyways :P)

What does it all mean...
It certainly looks like a variety of statistical quantizers are being used... all the way from Q10 to Q34... that's tragic !!!

I'm keen to try the <BQuantRatio>100</BQuantRatio> and <BQuantOffset>0</BQuantOffset> settings... but the H264 profiles don't have that command at all and don't even know where best it should go even it does...

I agree with buzz: If you need stand-alone-player capability then you should be using xvid-avi. If you are not concerned about that then you should use x264-mkv or x264-mp4. Unless you have a underpowered system, then stay with xvid-avi.

It is a crf encoding at Q23 but is it possible to have a totally flat quantizer... ?
I notice the Average DRF = 25.505621 with a huge swing between Q10 and Q34 ...

It's probably pretty standard stuff and I don't know any better myself but I'ld be keen to try a straight Q23... and c what it looks like.

i have dvd that i want to do 2 cd rip with avi container with audio of 128kbps/s is that possible with this software?

Before you start, make sure you have all the required software installed. You need more than just AutoMKV, you also need AVISynth and XviD at least (see the first post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=854221#post854221) of this thread).

Insert your DVD.
In AutoMKV, select the drive in the upper right, then click "Check DVD Drive"
AutoMKV should select the largest IFO file (which will correspond to the main movie on the DVD).
Set your output location (where the video files should go). Use a hard drive with at least 15GB of free space to handle all the DVD temp files, etc.
Change the container on the right hand side to AVI (it says MKV right now). Codec should change to XVID.
Set encoding profile, remember that higher qulaity profiles will take longer to process.
In the area labeled "Audio Track 1" select your audio track. I recommend you use a 2-ch Stereo track unless you are actually planning on playing the file on a 5.1 channel system.
Change audio format to LAME , STEREO, and quality to 128.
Leave other options on AUTO or however they are set if you don't know what they do.
On Output File/Name Options area change disk setting to "2 CD" this will give you one 1400 MB file, not two 700MB ones. You can also enter a specify a name for the final movie file (you don't need to type the .avi).
Now hit Start Encoding, in the lower right.

DVDFab Decrypter will open and start ripping the DVD to your hard disk. If it gives you an error about the path where it is trying to save the DVD, just change it and then hit start on it's window. A minor hiccup, it will remember next time.

After DVD Decrypter finishes, DGIndex will start and begin processing. You may not see a window telling you what it is doing, as long as your hard disk is churning, it is fine.

Audio will be processed after that.
Then Video (this will take several hours depending on the specs of your computer).
Then the parts will all be put together in the file.
When AutoMKV finishes, on the "Log" tab of AutoMKV it will say "Finished Job" at the bottom of the log.

Now go look in the folder you had defined as the output, and you should see a file with the name you picked.avi.

@buzzqw:
I thought subtitles on AVI required the "burn in" option be used.

Hey the program has been runnning fantastic and I loved it under XP but now I am running vista and I have problems. It does the Indexing fine I think, but any step where it opens the cmd window (testing interlace pattern, lets encode etc) It just flashes the cmd, closes it immediatly and moves to the next step. So it never does any actual encoding... any ideas? Thanks!

^ i have dvd ripped in my hd drive also i have done d2v file so and the audio. what is input file then?
can i put d2v file as an input or the vob file? or i have to do others than that? thx

I don't know. I told you in PM I'm rather new to most video encoding. I don't use AutoMKV just for video encoding and muxxing, I let it handle everything (except ripping if I'm using an episodic DVD). From your earlier posts I got the idea you were just starting and you had a DVD you wanted to rip to a specific format, not that you had a bunch of stuff already encoded separately.

Edit: You can use the VOB as the input. I'm not sure how to specify a separate audio file for audio input, but I think it can be done, though. Someone else will have to chime in.

FYI I fixed this in Vista by turning off DEP. You can do so by following this article:

tried this and still same, with cscript.exe crashing

Buzz I tried this, installed the WM 9 encoder, along with hotfix, and tried turning off DEP. All nothing. The CMD windows just close as soon as they open. If i really really watch them, they flash an error in the box right before they close, but i dont have enough time to read it....Any help? Thanks!

Alright, AutoMKV is giving me Script Host error messages again. It was working fine it seemed on 0.78b, but something changed between that and the most recent version.

Ah, I think I have figured it out. It seems AutoMKV does not like it when the temp folder (with the ripped DVDs in it) is outside its own folder! I had moved it outside since I had installed 0.79a but still had 0.78b, and when I tried to run 0.78b I got errors on it, too. But after moving the temp folder into the 0.79a folder, now a job completed. :)

Very interesting. I wonder if this was the source of some of the issues I was having before when I first started trying to use AutoMKV.

You may wont to take your encoding to the next level and mux your tracks manually which will allow you to include any audio or even video (3D Stereoscopic Movies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscopy) viewed through Shutter Glasses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCD_shutter_glasses)) tracks.

Download MKVToolnix (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/) which includes the MkvMerge GUI and browse through the MkvMerge User Guide (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/mkvmerge-gui.html) (It's pretty much plane sailing after that).

Good Luck and have a good one...

Ironically, MKVToolnix is what I tried before I tried MkvMagic, which what led me to AutoMKV.

I'm just looking for something fairly self contained and automated for now. Once I can get AutoMKV "jumping through hoops" maybe I'll look into it.

I'll assume you're talking to Salman1 since he has all the pieces waiting to be muxxed.

So it never does any actual encoding... any ideas? Thanks!

BTW Ive also tried running it under compatibility mode, still does same thing

Any word on this yet Buzz? I love your program, but I cant seem to get it to work at all under vista....any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried all your suggestions (page 69) any some other's suggestions (previous page), nothing worked....thanks man!

this error is often due to wrong framerate of avi file...

is movie.avi in temp directory playable ?

if so try manual muxing with virtualdub OR reencode (with xvid/avi) AND in advanced settings set use DivXMux

Have you any thoughts on Psychovisual Enhancement ?

I don't know whether you ever used the EKG in Dr DivX 1 but basically the idea was to decrease the bitrate in areas the eyes wouldn't notice anyway.

How do you think this impacts on Constant Quality encodes since all is equal ?

I was just wondering whether it is not in fact better to vary the Quantiser (as is happening) for a better overall Psychovisually pleasing result.

What's your take ?

@fenomeno83

since your source is from sat , i suppose is in TS format, in that case is much better to use projectX.

After loanding your file, go in advanced setting and check Use ProjectX (and leave de-check Use delay cut)

@PlayWithFire

launch from dos box movie_wmv.bat and spot the error

also read the hint on first post

In the Wiki it shows VBR as one of the pull-downs for Lame. I only seem to have ABR and CBR -- even when I put it on max quality. Why?

the new soundout plugin doesn't support well pure VBR mp3, so the new default is ABR (average bitrate around your bitrate selected)

I tried modifying the <MinQuantizer>23</MinQuantizer> <MaxQuantizer>23</MaxQuantizer> but this caused H264 to crash.

I even downloaded the Sharktooth profiles but they're much the same...

:) :D
