I'm sure it does...
Sorry Buzzqw... I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with AutoMKV or DVDFab Decrypter...
I'm using Vista Ultimate and it's a bit flaky so early in the morning... or early in it's life... it's got so many bugs, it's more of a beta than an RC (Release Candidate)...

DGIndex now works... but the final output is much the same... (see log)

there was some problem with creation of d2v files

try loading movie.avs in virtualdub.. and check consistency of movie.d2v

also.. try using the new automkv0.89a (with dvddecrypter/pgcdemux) should be more stable

Oh, that's nice to hear.

Regarding those sample, I just discovered that the MPA-2 file was corrupted. I fixed it with ProjectX and it was working after.

Just to let you know.

@klicker4546

glad you have resolved

@jellyfish2002

i would like to know how you have done this..

23:49:29 Command Line 1' Pass X264: C:\Users\Alpha\Desktop\AutoMKVv0.89\exe\encoder\x264.exe --pass 1 --crf 21.25 --stats ..... "C:\Users\Alpha\Desktop\New_Folder\temp\movie.mp4" "C:\Users\Alpha\Desktop\New_Folder\temp\movie.avs"
23:49:29 Command Line 2' Pass X264: C:\Users\Alpha\Desktop\AutoMKVv0.89\exe\encoder\x264.exe --pass 2 --bitrate 867

so the first pass is crf and the second pass is 2 pass bitrate based ???? and with 21.25 of crf ??
i must admit that i am

try enabling autocrop... try AutoCrop Only
you have encoded at full size.., take away the black bars

ForceFilm Detected: 100.000000% FILM found
in deinterlace select FILM, so you will be sure to get proper deinterlace (no need to set Field Order)

Pardon me for using image, I not too sure how to get my settings out.

uhm, i've another question about AutoMKV options:

what does it mean "Force Muxing AR"? i mean, if i leave it "automatic" and after the crop/resize my rip has an AR error of -0,196, this option does something? it decreases the ar error??

thanks

@jellyfish2002

in the main panel you have select "don't care about size"... so the question is.. how automkv could compute the bitrate if is ignoring the final size ?

if you want QUALITY, and no less, you must just select Constant Quality profile and use the 18 as crf proposed

Unlimited size and 2 pass (or 1 pass) isn't coherent, at least select 1 dvd, but not unlimited

as resized set lanczosresize or spline36

the speficy quality is for use a 1 pass profile, crf mode, not based on crf standard value (18,21,22..) but on a % preset, and 75% of quality is 21.25

EDIT2: no worry, in log file is reported that you have done 2 pass, BUT automkv have done only the 1 pass at quality 75 as requested!
thanks for the log bug!
btw the selected size when ,using quality %, is ignored. so no problem with don't care about size.
remember to not use "don't care about size" when doing regular 2 pass
@bisdelf

the par in muxing determined by ar (reading from d2v), width and height, and when using as input a mpeg (or d2v...) the par is "always" correct
in case of avi/mkv/ogm input the file haven't an AR readable by avisynth so with this option you force the par to be xxx

ok, finally done a very good rip but....damn it, it's undersize again: 1,43 gb instead of 1,45

EDIT: and now i know why: the dvd/3 setting of AutoMkV is wrong!!! it is 1537212416 byte --> 1501184 kb --> 1466 mb --> 1,43 gb

it should be 1493 mb!!! or between 1483 mb and 1496 mb anyway

buzzqw

it's called safety space...

i will size dvd on 4450 mb in next update

x264-profiles:

i saw an option called

<NbThreads>1</NbThreads>

in the xml profiles

on what it's referred to? CPU threads?? if so, since i've a dualcore, can i put 2 instead of 1?

thanks

First off, great program, all the settings and features you could wish for!

I am using the new 0.89a version and have noticed that it crashes everytime you try and edit or add a new job to the queue when AutoMKV is already processing a job. This has occurred on a clean install.

Also, if I unzip the full .89 distrib and then put .89a over it, it doesn't prompt to copy across and setup critical files to the windows\system directory. I had to run .89 and then after setup, run .89a.

Thanx

buzzqw

@bisdelf

this value
<NbThreads>1</NbThreads>
is ignored, automkv compute the cpu and apply the correct thread option

no worry to change it

the queue section isn't the most robust of Automkv.. and this behavior i think is present in 0.89 too (but i will check)

the 0.89a don't need to copy those files to system directory,BUT if you want to opent the avs with virtualdub.. you need to copy manually these files

Colormatrix, in x264 is used by default?

buzzqw
30th August 2007, 10:33
colormatrix is used regardless of codecs

automkv check if colormatrix must be used (checking colorimetry inside d2v) and if needed .. apply the filter

well well well....i'm getting very nervous...after more than 10 hours of encoding, about at 90% of second pass, it jumps over the end, start muxing and then boom 1,19 gb of file corrupted.

i must admit that i've updated avisynth from 2.5.7 to 2.5.8alpha, and updated mkvtoolnix to 2.1.0

about at 90% of second pass, it jumps over the end

that's enough for take out AutoMKV of responsibility

And i use avisynth 2.5.8 (from months) and i have update to mkvtoolnix 2.1.0 too, and no problem

could you have hit Abort Encoding (two time) ?
what about memory problems ? (you have use qmtrim, and that can cause huge memory request)

What is TFF and BFF fields for de-interlacing?

I'm trying to figure out what kind of de-interlacer to use.
DGindex says it's 98% film. interlaced.

when I ran AutoMKV test, he said he was not sure.

I counted the frames, and it's like this-
in every 5 frames, you see 2 interlaced frames and 3 non-interlaced (progressive) frames, then it has been telecined

I should set deinterlacer to film or interlaced?
and what field BFF TFF or auto?

right now I have encodes running at forced film and auto, so I can see which one works.

So far, the deinterlacer has been wonderful. I have used other deinterlacers in staxrip, and the one in automkv has been working far better. It has gotten rid of all the mouth combs so far.

that's enough.. on deinterlace settings select FILM, don't warry about TFF/BFF on Film material isn't important

BFF/TFF is more important when dealing with Interlaced, on case of bad choice (tff and not bff...) the motion is stutter

I've been using the different deinterlacer settings

on a different video, the interlace test said to set to interlace and field to hybrid order. so I also checked the box allow hybrid order.

the encode video looks ok, but when the scene slowly pans up, I get 4 frames move, then 1 frame is a duplicate. and it repeats. 4 frames moving, then 1 duplicate.

did I deinterlace it properly? or is this the stutter problem?

interlace and field to hybrid order

the De-Interlace (and not FILM/Decimate) works good with fixed frame order or even hybrid frame order

on hybrid is more slow, but the result as the same as fixed order

BUT the aswer change a lot if you "switch" Interlace with Film

in that case film type can be hybrid, most of the time for anime or "honk kong" film production, rarely on hollywood movie there is hydrid film type.

i think id better to post a fragment of unprocessed vob to asvisynth forum and ask better help

(anyway i first will try NOT allowing Hybrid, just FILM. Most of time isn't hybrid...)

Even most of the time anime and "Hong Kong" film production isn't hybrid.
In the case of anime, in pretty much every case I've seen using NTSC Region1 DVD's, it's going to be a fixed field order that just needs decimating (i.e. IVTC/3:2 pulldown).

Furthermore, most of the time, American films also just need some IVTC (film/decimating selection does the same thing) to restore the original 23.96fps movie.

I have yet to see a film that uses a hybrid order.

fully agree, that's way i suggest to use film.. and not allowing hybrid

Hi,

I see different options on different screens about resizing and cropping and confused which one I need to use. I want any incoming material regardless of type to fully fill 16:9 screen even if it will involve cropping (no distortion though). Which setting do I need to choose? Is it generally possible?

Hi buzz, hi all!

Im just wondering if you guys have still trouble with BAutoDeint crashing?

For me it is ramdomly crashing. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Another win32-exception. Seems as if a file could not be read. The problem occurs not when I am running a test without automkv.

Everything is fine running it from a shell. :sly:

It depends on the source. You WANT TO crop off the black bars on the side (normally, on an american DVD release, thats like 4 on left and 4 on right, maybe 8 on each..., sometimes you need to crop the top and bottom too, it depends).

Resizing is to 16:9 would mean a resolution of 704x396 (for xvid) or 704x400 (for h264 to maintain MOD16).
However, you can also just do it at the main DVD resolution of 720x480 and for a muxing AR in mkv of 16:9. It depends what you want to do with it. You can also resize it up to maintain your vertical resolution to something like 848x480.

Maybe it's you...
Reinstall avisynth and ffdshow if it's using "directshowsource". I really don't know whats up. Maybe buzzqw could offer some more incite on the problem.

Hi Buzz,
Just to say thanks for a great app. I've tried a few of the 'all in one' solutions out there and IMO AutoMKV is the one with the clearest UI. It gives me the level of customization that I need without overcomplicating encodes and so far is working like a charm.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. But under automkv it keeps on crashing. Running it from shell it no problem. So I guess there's nothing wrong with avisynth or ffdshow, since it didn't use "directshowsource".

But I reinstalled avisynth and ffdshow again. Still the same.

So buzzqw could be right, that it is automkv's new stdout or stdin or whatever. :)

Let him check!

Okay, I am really curious if you can get it fixed. Since it's running fine under Dos-shell I take it BAutoDeint is working properly, but automkv might have some problem calling BAutoDeint or parsing its output. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to support you.

And last but not least, thanks for your great work on automkv!

I've been using AutoGK for awhile now but I thought I'd try AutoMKV. I'm still a newbie though when it comes to DVD ripping so apologies in advance for my stupid questions.

If I set the container to be MKV then the output should be an MKV file, right? If the movie name is Looney_Tunes, should the output be Looney_Tunes.mkv? The reason I ask is because I end up with movie.mkv in the temp folder. The only thing I see in the selected output folder is the log file.

When I play movie.mkv, there's no audio. Any idea what could be the cause of this? Did I do something wrong?

Here's the log file:

@Aylwin

First of all Welcome to the Forum

take a look at log

18:01:42 Track Language 2: Suomi (AC3 6ch, 0xBD 0x82) [0]
18:29:02 Unable to encode Audio2, trying with DirectShowSource!

the second audio track wasn't extracted by dgindex

the first audio (tn=1) was extracted and is english
BUT the second audio isn't SUOMI!

look better here
Track Language 2: Suomi (AC3 6ch, 0xBD 0x82) [0][/QUOTE]
that's mean (0x82) SUOMI was the THIRD audio (0x80,0x81,0x82)

BUT in Dgindex is reported TN=1,2

what's mean ?

when you have ripped the dvd you have removed the SECOND audio track (0x81), but the ifo wasn't update and so AutoMKV instructed dgindex to demux the second audio in list.. but the second audio wasn't present! since suomi was the third (0x82)

... take it easy

don't remove audio stream when you rip OR FOR THIS RIP select on audio list "All Audio Tracks" if your vobs contain only english and suomi tracks

i hope to be clear

Fantastic! Your explanation is very clear. I'll try again.

Thanks very much!

I have a problem which i cant solve... its related to the resize routine as far as i can tell.

I will have to post 2 log files to make clear what i mean.
First is the log file of my settings in which the movie encodes just fine (aborted the encode because of the time consuming process):

you can see the manual crop, and the manual resize of 720 x 480

but that result gives me blocks around fine lines, so i dont want to enlarge, i just want to crop, and shape it back to 4:3, so now i use the same crop setting, but the resize to 708 x 472 (a pretty common resolution):

it phails... When X264 want to start his job, the encoder screen disappaers, the second pass and the muxing screen flash once, and then its over...

Nothing is different except for the resolution... what am i doing wrong here?

EDIT: another little question... Is it possible to encode in 29.970 fps? When i encode that movie to h264, it is 23.976 fps, which gives me some video glitches...
Is it some setting that i had wrong?

Hello everyone, first, thanks you, your log is amazing !

But well, it worked fine for me untill 2-3 day ago. When the encoding is finished (after 1 or 2 pass, i tried both), there isn't any final output video file, there are just files in the TEMP folder (audio only, video only without subtitle and more), but not the muxed one in the defined folder. I don't think that i've changed any options nor updapted / installed new log. I tried to change some options, i used version 0.89 then 0.89a,i also did a Search on my computer and even tried on another computer of mine, but there isn't any final output file.

@Never

First of all Welcome to the Forum!

i think the problem is sub

try launching from dos the muxing.bat
what is the error ? (i am not sure that ssa subs are allowed in mp4, or at least using this version of mp4box)

How do you compare your encodes? For instance, I am currently encoding the same file with all of the same settings EXCEPT for the filters. I am trying to see which filter produces the best results, but only having a human eye, I'm not sure I will be able to tell much of a difference between the qualities.

errors of path

try not using so long path like desktop

move the temp folder from desktop to c:\encoding\temp (or similar)

edit the muxing.bat with new path and launch it

load your encodes in virtualdub or virtualdub mod. Go to a specific frame which you want to compare, and go to the exace same frame on the other encode. Export that 1 frame to a (almost) lossless image file (TGA, BMP or PNG), and open that up in windows image viewer while you have the 2 pictures in the same directory.
When you switch now between the pictures you should be able to make a good compare. NEVER try to compare 2 encodes while they are loaded and playing in a media player. On moving video you see much less to no detail, and the media player alters the video a bit for easy and smooth playback.

open the last movie.avs in virtualdub.. any errors ?

for frame rate just select NONE in denterlacer, selecting Film (hybrid) it will decimate

this is the error message:
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/3448/errormoviena8.png

Which resolutions are MOD4? and its quite strange cause i dont use mipsmooth, but judging from the message, its a part of the derainbow filter.

EDIT: MOD4 should be a resolution devideable by 4 right? 708 is divideable by 4... strangely, 704 works! but which hight should i use with that to get a 4:3 resolution? 472 or 468... the last one is a pretty odd number if you ask me

Hi
Try Avsp http://avisynth.org/qwerpoi/
open your avs and see the diference frame by frame, you can modifi parameters of filter and see the diference

What resolution was your final encode set at.
Maybe it needs MOD8 instead (704=MOD8)

720 x 480 works, but gives me blocking because of the resizing after the cropping (at least, thats what i think), 708 x 472 fails due to the above mentioned error, 704 x 472 works, but with 704 as width, i cant make a perfect 4:3 ....

Hi,

Thanks

no, isn't allowed in gui

the only way is to stop the encoding and edit the encoding batch

iirc is the first time this feature is asked... if many users reputed important i can add it.. (btw have added it in todo list.. not with so high priority..)
