. For aesthetics maybe have this change to NONE

done

Also, is there a configuration setting somewhere I can change to have the Audio Track language always default to English?

no, that's not possible is remembered the position (1' track, 3' track...) but not the language

Is it remembered after AutoMKV is closed and then re-opened?
try the save settings features... or in advanced settings the save/load configuration

While on the subject what does the FFmpeg encoding dropdown affect anyway. Mines defaulted to NONE but have had encoding fall back to FFmpeg anyway.
the encoding is done by ffmpeg when the encoding with x264/xvid fail
as last hope the encoding is feeded to ffmpeg to get your encoded file (features not deactivable)

I just reencode the sample in automkv (version 086f2). In the movie.avs I have

crop(16,-16,16-16) (something like that)

and the resizer36(704,400) (something like that).. i'm in the office right now.. I don't have to script with me

when I try the movie encoded on my PS3.. it wasn't fullscreen... there are black borders on the top and bottom (like 6 inches top, 6in bottom)

but when I use the same movie.avs into megui.. the video is fullscreen in my PS3.

I'll try with the new automkv version tonight. I compare the W and H in mediainfo and they are the same. In automkv I choose PAR 16:9, in the muxing section : 16:9 .. I don't know if these settings are use..

any suggestion ?

sorry the copy/paste didn't work. I jsut edit my previous post.

the problem is simple. I use the same movie.avs (generated by automkv) in automkv and megui.

the movie generated by automkv doesn't play in fullscreen on my HDTV using the PS3, but the movie encoded by megui does.

I tough I could be the muxer. Is not the same version.

maybe an idea from a n00b:
megui used the 720*480 (i chose this example) resolution, non anamorphic, but autoMKV used the anamorphic option, forcing it into 16:9?

I found a little bug/flaw, this is how to reproduce it:
1) put something in the queue
2) decide that you dont want to use the queue
3) delete the jobs from the queue
4) go to the first tab, and look for the start encode button to encode the file immediattely
5) conclude that you cant find that button because it changed into queue control buttons, and didnt change back as soon as the queue was empty.
only way to get the direct start button back is to restart autoMKV.
Lucky it doenst do anything with your encodes.

Nice work on version 0.87 by the way. I like the small, but subtle changes (deint progress bar, nice. no audio, no DGindex trouble, even nicer!)

thanks! fixed in next update

about anamorphic... i suggest to read the exellent site of SeeMoreDigital http://seemoredigital.net/03_Video_Only_Info/What_is_an_anamorphic_encode.html

thats why i said "from a n00b" ;)

ive been playing with the tips wizboy11 gave me and i have to say... it works wonders!

i think the thick black lines are a bit too much, but it looks a lot better.

a little question too.
Wizboy11 said the following:
degrainmedian(mode=1).LimitedSharpenFaster(ss_x=1.5, ss_y=1.5, smode=4, strength=125, overshoot=1, undershoot=1).FastLineDarkenMOD(thinning=0, strength=60)
but... are thoste filters applied in sequence? because then, wouldn't it make more sence to sharpen first, and apply degrainmedian after that?
And why did whizboy11 recommend against convoltusion3d, and recommended degrainmedian? I havent tried degrainmedian to a real extense yet, but i have noticed that so far, convoltusion3d was the only filter that didnt gave me some blocking in darker places of the screen.

I never said convo3d was bad, just that it was showing it's age. By all means, if you want to use it and it produces the best quality for you then do use it.

And the filters will be applied in that order. I've always be taught to do the denoising first, then sharpen it. But there's a plus and minus to sharpening before or after denoising. I believe that SeeSaw attempted to try and fix this (whether to sharpen before/after). I always just denoise before so the sharpener doesn't amplify the noise.

If the lines are too think then just lower the strength on Fast Line Darken. Try 40, 25, 5, mess around with all the settings.

Also, crop the left and right on your image. Good idea to get rid of the boarders. This is kinda getting off topic from automkv, no? :) (i.e. PM me)

@buzzqw

Problem over here.
VirtualDub keeps crashing on my for some reason.

Can't figure out why either.
Even if I don't touch anything in the directory (like unrar it and then just run the program and try it), it just crashes when it trys to encode the audio, mux a file, whatever.

I can double-click virtual dub in the matroska folder and it'll still crash. I'm gonna try rebooting and I'll redownload the pack just to make sure it's not me.

Yea, it's not the package, it's me.

For some reason every virtualdub on my computer is crashing. The one from automkv, the one i've downloaded, every one of them. I'll have to see whats up. Never had this problem before.

I've managed to track down the problem I've been having with virtual dub mod. Turns out its not virtual dub mod at all.

It's avisynth. However I've tried reinstalling it but that doesn't seem to help. Whether I use avisynth through virtualdub, or through ffdshow, they both crash it.

Just thought I'd let you know it has nothing to do with automkv.
Avisynth is being annoying :mad:

First thing. If IVTC was performed, this shouldn't be this (AFAIK):

Second, try not setting the muxing AR (or any AR for that matter), then re-encode.
In fact, since the source is a vob/d2v/ifo then automkv should be able to detect it automatically.

Remember that good resolutions are:
-xvid=704x396
-x264=704x400 (to maintain mod8/16 compressibility)

Although it's really up to you what you wanna use as the resolution.

same result

everything is set to Automatic : PAR and AR

I found the problem.. not sure if it's the cause.. but the movie is fullscreen now, like it should be.

I edit the x264_2thpass.bat

I remove the --sar 190:100 from the command line. I relaunch it and the movie is correct now

is ti possible to change theses defaults settings ?

* subme (0 to 7)

Controls sub-pixel motion estimation. HandBrake defaults to a subme of 4 (as titer says, "Slightly faster with minimal quality lost"), while x264 would rather use a default value of 5. By going up to 6 or 7 (the maximum) you enable extra high-quality settings. Of course, doing so also increases encode time.

* me (dia, me, hex, umh, esa)

Controls the motion estimation method. At the most basic setting, dia, x264 will only consider a diamond-shaped region around each pixel. The default setting, hex, is similar to dia but uses a hexagon shape. Uneven multi-hexagon, umh, searches a number of different patterns across a wider area and thus is slower than hex and dia but further increases compression efficiency and quality. esa, an exhaustive search of a square around each pixel (whose size is controlled by the merange parameter), is only intended for experimentation and testing of algorithms and should not be used as umh will generally produce as good or better results in vastly less time.

Insane: this is Sharktooth's HQ-Insane profile for MEGui, but stripped down to be QuickTime compatible. It's best used with 2-pass ABR at a bitrate of 1500kbps or higher.

ref=6:mixed-refs=1:no-fast-pskip=1:bframes=3:b-rdo=1:bime=1:weightb=1:direct=auto:filter=-2,-1:subme=7:trellis=2:analyse=all:vbv-maxrate=25000:me=umh:no-dct-decimate=1

not sure which Level is that.. but If we can increase the quality, why not. I would like to be able to add the values in the profile.

Qmtrim works good in 0.87.

the quality is a little more clear than this script

degrainmedian(mode=1).LimitedSharpenFaster(ss_x=1.5, ss_y=1.5, smode=4, strength=125, overshoot=1, undershoot=1).FastLineDarkenMOD(thinning=0, strength=60)

I'll check tomorrow with a better sample.

I check also the HVags.. I obtain the same image than QMtrim. it's normal ? and when I say the same.. it's the same :)

I compared with Avsp.

qmtrim could get a little more details like the effect of FastLineDarkenMOD(thinning=0, strength=60) and it will look really amazing. I'll try that tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I'm using AutoMKV and I'm just wondering if somebody could help me find the settings to get the best picture I can from a very poor source.

Here's a link (http://rapidshare.com/files/42809190/VTS_01_1.demuxed.m2v.html) (6.5mb) to about 10 seconds of video, hoping someone can help me out.

isnt' true the correct value! you must put between > < the value of each parameter, like 0.5 for aq-strength ...

resizer = spline36
ahemm... who wrote this script ?... AND who paste it ???...

spline36 doesn't exist... is spline36resize...

AQ is adaptive quantization. It's a patch thats used on some versions of x264 that enables a different quatitizer value to be used on different parts of the image, like so that blue and black don't get very blocky. (I was reading up on compiling x264 and this is the definition, or something like that, that I got, not sure if it's right)

I think deadzone is something similar, although I'm not sure.

thanks a lot

here a new bug for you :)

I have saved my setting in automkv. the Input is intro.d2v

I have the filter Hsavg checked.

I open automkv I choose the DVD : G. DO Checked DVD.

after that I do start encoding.. in the movie.avs.. it's again intro.d2v. I think you forgot to release the setting when we click on Check DVD.

I have save the new settings.. close automkv, and reopenit.

Now I do start encoding and DGIndex appears... but it stop there. It's jsut open.. like the command line wasn't pass to the program.

found the problem with DGIndex.

the command line is : [C:\DVD\encode\automkv\temp\dvd\video_ts\VTS_01_1.vob]

I choose the package without dvddecrypter, because my DVDs don't have protections :)

if there isn't dvddecrypter automkv should use the DVD drive like that.

I open automkv I choose the DVD : G. DO Checked DVD.

... workaround... click on input file.. browse to your dvd and select video_ts.ifo.. that's ok!

check drive is to use when dvd is to rip
if dvd is not protected you must browse to your dvd and select your ifo (or video_ts.ifo for main movie)

can you add a setting to choose the "me" setting

are you able to play in media player classic ?

i suggest to set ffdshow as decoder of h264 and haali media splitter as default splitter for mkv (aka reinstall haali media splitter)

till you get this error

It says "Avisynth open failure: DirectShowSource: couldn't open file c:\lake...house.mkv: No combination of filters could be found to render the stream. (C:\temp\movie.avs, line 59)

automkv will not be able to process your video :( sorry

I reinstall CCCP which reinstalled ffdshow and haali media splitter. I'm not sure how to set ffdshow as "decoder for h264).
I can play video fine in VLC player.

VLC is a great player ... BUT uses its own decoder!

directshowsource uses the decoder installed in your system

usually a recent build of ffdshow (tryout) and haali media splitter is enough for most films

I did not change anything since 0.86 install, just installed 0.87 and it stopped working at this point.

I used Windows media player and it played MKV file just fine. What is next? I reinstalled CCCP already as well as AutoMKV.
What is would be next to check?

@buzzqm

#1 - there is a way to avoid this option in the command line "--sar 190:100" ? x264pass

I have to remove it before the encoding if I want the good AR.

#2 - the 1th pass in to the same as 2th. The time saved, will it impact the quality ?

I don't mind about the time, if the quality is better :)
thanks

confront the movie.avs of automkv 0.86 and 0.87
should be identical

no, not actually. and i won't remove it till i am sure that isn't needed

i don't fully understud... the first pass is usually a "fast" pass, where the second is more precise... :confused:

fine with me.. I remove it "sar" before the encoding. that's my workaround.

Hi buzzqw,

THANKS A LOT for continually making this program better & better. Love version 0.87.

1) I was wondering if you can ADD a "Pop-Up" to indicate the Conversion has been completed ... Or add a Bell sound or something?

2) Q: is the "Interlace" test function necessary for the conversion? Or can I skip it after the 1st run?

3) Q: Can you make the Conversion engines FASTER!?!? Even the 1Pass Fast XviD profile only runs at about 29fps!!!

Thanks again,

G!:thanks:

@survivant

i am now looking at sar.. i will post later

@gonwk

1) I was wondering if you can ADD a "Pop-Up" to indicate the Conversion has been completed ... Or add a Bell sound or something?

DONE! in next update if a "beep" file (without quotes and extension) is in automkv folder , a beep sound is played at end of encoding

2) Q: is the "Interlace" test function necessary for the conversion? Or can I skip it after the 1st run?
if you have a series of file, and all those file belonging to the same type.. yes, you can studi deinterlace for the first and then apply the same deinterlacer (using list of deinterlacer) to all others

3) Q: Can you make the Conversion engines FASTER!?!? Even the 1Pass Fast XviD profile only runs at about 29fps!!!

the speed depends on to many factors, and no one is due to automkv... but filters, codec settings, resolution... cpu

@survivant

the --sar xx:100 is appyed only if on advanced settings on PAR XviD/X264 is set something not NONE

leave this option as NONE and retry the encoding !

hope better news!
