open the vob with dgindex and look at video, you see interlace pattern ? or field type frame ?

Preview in DGIndex reports it as interlaced, that means I have to go with the majority and encode it as interlaced with TFF :thanks:

OK so long thread so I obviously didn't read it all. I did search to no avail.

So I'm attempting to start hosting torrents. I've done a bit of video encoding but still far from a pro. I'm hoping someone here is familiar with torrents, but I'm attempting to create an HR standard MKV of an HD capture.

For other experts that don't do much torrenting, this means I'm attempting to create a 1.5hr, 700MB, 960X544, 16:9, 2Mbps MKV.

I've stumbled my way through most of my problems so far, but here I'm stumped. x264 is kicking back a warning that there is no buffer specified for my VBR maxrate, but I can find no way to do this. I'm guessing I may have to add a few tweaks to the command line, so am looking for some suggestions of what might be good for my targeted specs. Post here or drop me an e-mail at theronmoore@hotmail.com

Has anyone got this beast to work with Windows x64? Most of it works but bautodeint keeps craping out. I've searched but can't find anything on running it with x64.

@theronmoore
i doubt you will have any answer in this forum, re check the forum rules

@jwhyche

are you sure you have installed xvid (koepi build) ? if yes try intalling divx codec and check this registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
"VIDC.YV12"="xvidvfw.dll" or "divx.dll"

Hmm...i get the "Warning HCEnc is missing in....Removed HCenc support" window when i try to choose my drive letter to "Check DVD Drive" and it won´t go away! I have to close AutoMKV 0.90b with the task manager. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

.90c is broken for me.. When I try to encode DVD with constant quality, following problems occur..

1. When I click on the IFO, sound jumps from "copy original" to "lame"
2. dgindex fails, doesn't do anything. Well, it starts but doesn't do anything
3. I seem to get "1cd" in log even thought I choose unlimited..

With .90 I had weird result with getting approximately 15MB avi chunks with CQ unlimited profile!

Here's the logfile

I also have a few questions. I originally did this because I was bored, but it aroused a few questions. I inputed a 300mb file and while it was still encoding, the file size reached over 2gb. I was using x264 on Insane quality. But I also got the message at the bottom saying "Break! Unsupported Format! Last try with FFMPEG!". Why is that? Here is my log file:

Well, dude. You didn't specify an output size or a bitrate. Your bitrate was HUGE!!! (187927!!!). No wonder you were getting such a crazy file size.

try adjusting the desired output size or bitrate and see if that fixes things.

Here you go..

C:\Program Files\AutoMKV\exe\Vsrip\pgcdemux.exe -pgc 1 -nocellt -nolog -noaud -nosub -nom2v -vob "E:\Movies-E\Sunshine\MainMovie\SUNSHINE\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO" "E:\Movies-E\Sunshine\temp"

In any case, dgindex opens and there's no error message.. it just doesn't do anything.

I got this when encoding: (I will be using this one file (which is 175mb) for a while. It is anime.)

http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee80/whynotco/help1.jpg

What does this mean? 2 pass curve failed? Reduce bitrate?

Settings: (file is called "Bleach 142 RAW")

Size: 1cd
Resize filter: HybridFuPP HQ Source
Filters: Convolution3d (preset="animeHQ")
Profile: Anime-Maxquality
Set Width Resolution: Automatic
Using x264

Although I disagree with the forum rule that I'm talking about, it is a rule, and must be obeyed.

Bleach 142 is NOT out on dvd, that I know for a fact (it aired yesterday).

Nope. Then again, I have delete temp files on, maybe I should uncheck it. I'm pretty sure the dgindex is not doing anything, thought (no cpu usage etc)

Only file in the temp folder was that bat file you asked for.

Has anyone got this beast to work with Windows x64? Most of it works but bautodeint keeps craping out. I've searched but can't find anything on running it with x64.

Check your DEP (Data Execution Prevention) settings and add an exception for bautodeint if necessary.

Update to 0.90c link in first post

FIXED: No more need of default.avs (list of dll to load). Now dll is dinamically loaded at every start
FIXED: CHECK DVD DRIVE (thanks to DIEGO7-5)
FIXED: 16MB split BUG (thanks to perseverance of Barleyman)
FIXED: Wrong report of 1 CD size for Constant Quality Mode (just a log bug, thanks to Barleyman)

@Barleyman

found the 16MB bug... look at your automkv.ini... and search "xcrfsplitvalue"

delete the automkv.ini or any ini files and use the build 0.90c of today

@crazee_canuck

thanks for the tip!

fixed the wrong reported "Selected Size:"

and ,I HOPE, the 16MB bug

BHH

Yeah. Finally got the expected result!

Btw, could you make a separate button for q? It's bit awkward that you have to change profile to 2-pass and back to CQ to change it..

And, ehm, it'd be nice if the "original" in audio sticks! It's a PITA when you find out after 3 hours that you just made crappy stereo audio track..

Hi,

I have a question. I used AutoMKV to encode the Pilot of Lost, using the MKV container, x264 Codec with the 2_Pass_Better profile, NeroAAC audio with no resizing, all the original resolutions and no restriction on size. I got a file the size of 1.16GB, which was acceptable. Then I had to reinstall Windows XP, and after I did so, I installed the exact same codecs I had before, and that is the CCCP codec pack, I installed the same version of AutoMKV and AviSynth and used the EXACT same settings to encode the SAME Lost Pilot, but this time the file was 2.6GB !! I've tried different things, but I CANNOT figure out what's causing this. Once again, I'm using the exact same settings I used before I reinstalled Windows XP, but now I'm getting a file more than twice the size I got before with the same quality. Can someone please help me out? Does someone know what may be causing this? Thank you!

@Encoder888

2_Pass_Better profile, NeroAAC audio with no resizing, all the original resolutions and no restriction on size
it was discussed SEVERAL time, if you want a no restriction on size is suggested to use Constant Quality profile.

The constant quality profile is 1 pass profile that will encode the file to (near) maxiumum quality.

All 2 pass profile, without specifing the final size aim internally at 32GB of size...

Please use the Constant quality profile, at qualtitizer 18 (as default) and encode, you will positively surprised by time and quality achivied! :)

I'm wondering if there is something you could possibly implement in AutoMKV that would be a "quick and dirty" way of determining a 2-pass abr bitrate that would result in a certain "% quality".

I'd like to refer to the "compressibility test" found in Staxrip for instance. After performing such a test in Staxrip, there is a simple mathematical formula that relates the 1.) resolution of the encode, 2.) the bitrate, and 3.) a "% quality". If you raise the resolution of the encode, the "% quality" would drop if the bitrate remains constant, and so on.

This would give people a way to select an appropriate bitrate for use with a 2-pass encode without having to first complete a "constant quality (-qp)" encode in order to determine that bitrate. If there is already a way to do this in AutoMKV, well, sorry for the post. :)

You guys are obviously not paying attention to what I was asking you. The problem isn't how big the file was. The problem is that I was using the exact same settings as I was before I reinstalled Windows and I got VERY different results, so MY QUESTION was - what may be causing this. Thanks.

Hi, I think I have found a bit of an odd bug. I have a pretty simple config file saved which includes Lancos resize, 480, constant quality 80, ipod profile, and AAC-LC cbr 128.

When I open AutoMKV and begin with the default settings, entering the above parameters manually, all encodes work fine.

However, if I open AutoMKV, then load the saved config with above parameters, I always receive the following AVIsynth error at the checking script...movie.avs step following the audio encode:

ConverttoYV12:Interlaced image height must be multiple of 4 (movie.avs, line 63)

If I go back and just enter the parameters manually, everything works just fine. The error only appears if I load the config ini. I've tried resaving the config ini, and the same error appears.

The source is NOT interlaced and the height is a multiple of 4.

Any ideas?

Well, it turns out the source isn't mod4, I thought it was. :) Anyways, it turns out that the manual input did not have the "avs check", whereas the saved config had the "avs check". But, what is unsettling is the fact that if the "avs check" is NOT checked, and there are no errors, why isn't the source cropped by 2 pixels by the autocrop automatically to satisfy the mod4 requirement?

On a side note, my preview function has been broken. Could this be related to the above problem? I can't get mkv or mp4 files to preview (haven't tried mpg2 files), and AutoMKV just crashes, but only when I push preview.

I've tried to copy those 7 files out of the /encoder/ directory into the system32 folder, and that didn't work either. It's just so strange, and I can't figure out what broke the preview! Thanks for the help...

EDIT: Here's the deal. Vista seems to have problems handling directshowsource plugin version 2.5.7. Therefore, one needs to find a copy of the older version 2.5.6.0. I copied that dll to the plugins folder of both Avisynth 2.5 and the plugins folder of AutoMKV. I'm not sure if it was necessary to copy it to the AutoMKV plugins directory, as AutoMKV doesn't even include the plugin. Everything works now, including preview and the autocrop function (avs check now passes mod4)!

There's still a little bug, wherein the automkv.ini does not store the "quality value = 1, quality value = xx", whereas the saved user configurations do do this. Those 2 lines can, however, be easily added to the automkv.ini.

I reinstalled it with .90c, so far it is working good. We will see how far it gets. I am trying to convert an animated tv show that I have on DVD (Superman Animated Series) to wmv. Any idea on the best settings to use? I tried balance settings and didnt know that I set it at CD size, so it came out real junky. I am trying constant quality now with DVD size and going to see how that looks. Think it is overkill with those new settings?

The program rocks by the way if it works this time :D

Just started using AutoMKV (it is the most "idiot-proof" application to convert to H.264 with DTS option I found, which is important in my case:-) I am converting my Video_ts files to H.264. I rip to mkv, with "constant" set at the default 18 and "copy" for audio (which allows me to keep my DTS 6.1 and AC3 tracks.) I am very happy with the results, using all defaults.

Couple of questions, to which I could not find an answer:

1. How to I append Video_ts files from multi-disk films, like LOTR? It finds the first DVD (Video_ts 1_1, etc.) but I can't get it to attach the second disk (Video_ts 2_1 etc.).

2. What is the best way to keep subtitles? In the DVD rips I usually keep the English subtitles, even for English movies, since sometimes I use them (like in Snatch:-) But when I converted the subtitles from the DVD rip, they appeared on the finished mkv by default and I couldn't turn them off, at least in Vista MCE. Was this a fluke, or do I need to do something different, so that I can toggle them on/off?

3. Can I convert my HD-DVDs and what do I need to do? I did a rip of King Kong through AnyDVD to the hard drive, then selected the evo_1 files (there are 2, I think, so my first question also applies to this) and set AutoMKV to "copy" the audio. But when I start the conversion, it errors on the audio.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Using Vista Ultimate, all updates, with K-Lite Full codecs, when updated to AutoMKV090c.exe the app crashed 3 times in a row. AutoMKV090_NORIP.rar works smoothly.

Welcome to the forum Zow:)

By default AutoMKV should keep the subtitles as a separate stream, not actually "burnt into" the video. This is the case with MKV container anyway (not 100% sure about MP4 as I don't use it). There is a check box on the Advanced Settings tab under Muxing Options to "Burn Subtitle" - if this was checked then that would definitely explain your experience.

Does Vista MCE play the files natively, or is it using ffdshow? If it's using ffdshow then my experience in WinXP with MPC is that I need to use the subtitle options in ffdshow, not those in MPC.

Hi buzzwq,

I have a few suggestions in regard to AutoMKV.
Think of them more as suggestions rather than feature requests.
AutoMKV is really a cool tool which I´ve used the past few weeks
for my h264 encoding experiments. Even without using HD DVD I
think that this will be the codec of the future.

Suggestions #1:
Please support AVISynth scripts as native input. They could be
either imported into the AutoMKV scripts or open via AVISource.
My main reason for this: I use my tool VCF2AVS in order to
"edit" out all commercials within my captured AVI files. Since
I capture @704x576 in Huffyuv the files are very big. Editing
the movie and saving the new file can easily require 160 GB
for a single movie. Not to speak of the HDD space required
if I capture two movies in a row :)

Suggestions #2:
Could you please add an option to disable the "scanning" of AVI files ?
This would be nice since scanning an input AVI might add
stability but takes a gazzilion of minutes (ok, may be just 10 minutes
real time :)) when you open up a Huffyuv capture > 40 GB.

Suggestions #3 :
AutoMKV throws in all available plugins and imports all scripts
without taking in account if they are needed or not. From my
experiences (both with Diko and my own tool FitDVD) this is a
big source for potential problems. Esp. when people are playing
around with other plugins, newer versions of included plugins, etc.
I think a better, more simplistic approach is to use predefined
scripts with a variable path for plugin loading. So you can limit
the plugin loading to those what are actually needed.

Now to my idea:
I´m currently developing a multi-instance middleware for x264
based on the implementation of QuEnc^n and HEEnc^n. Although x264 is already quite demanding and might not see the same speed benefits as for MPEG2 I´m looking into the future. Quad core in the entry range and 8 core machine in the uper range are predictable. When I started the development for QuEnc^n last year there were no cheap dual core CPUs and now (only a year later) you can purchase a quad core 3 GHz CPU for below 300€.

If x264^n (working title) is finished and the code a bit pollished I´ll start the same for Xvid Encraw. I know that there is already ELDER providing a similar functionality but I dislike having to install a PERL package on my machine simply to do parallel x264 encoding. I´m no perl crack though but my experiment building an exe from ELDER were quite limited. So I started my own ^n encoding tool for x264.

May be you have interest in supporting x264^n within AutoMKV ? I don´t know...

Currently I´ve planed the following CLI for x264^n. There will be two simple CLI parameters (identical to HCEnc^n):
-cores X = will specify the # of concurrent instances
-ini "C:\MyPath\Myini.ini" = will specify the path to your ini which will store all relevant informations.

The ini format will be simple:

[Common]
Source=C:\MyAVS.AVS
Target=C:\MyMP4.mp4
Bitrate=700
Size=700
[Encode]
1Pass=Blafoo options
2Pass=Blafoo options
CQ=Blafoo options

I´ve choose the ini over a CLI because I think that a more complex CLI such as the original x264 CLI doesn´t really add any value for the usage of x264^n. The options in the ini should be pretty much selfexplaining. Source and Target are obvious I guess. Bitrate is the value in kBit/s used in 2 pass encoding. Size is the value in MB which will be used as target size for CQ prediction. I´ll try to implement a functionality similar to D2SRoBa or CCEFront which both do a CQ prediction. I have no clue how this works with x264 but if it´s reasonable predictable such a functionality would be cool. Esp. when running multiple instances of x264 in CQ mode.

The [Encode] section keeps the additional x264 settings which you can specify. Those will be added by x264^n either in the first pass, the second pass or the CQ pass.

Merging of the mp4 segments will be done via MP4Box.exe

Let me hear what you think !

Best regards,
D$

so that I can toggle them on/off?

from changelo of 0.90
ADDED: In Advanced Settings "Hide Subs". This option is to use only for mkv container and will force player to not show subtitle :)

3. Can I convert my HD-DVDs and what do I need to do? I did a rip of King Kong through AnyDVD to the hard drive, then selected the evo_1 files (there are 2, I think, so my first question also applies to this) and set AutoMKV to "copy" the audio. But when I start the conversion, it errors on the audio

if you have the right directshow filter you can load your evo files. Just remember to check in advanced settings Use DDS form Audio and Use DDS for Video

and Welcome to the Forum! :)

@Darksoul71
first of all thanks for your attention and suggestion!

Please support AVISynth scripts as native input
already possible, just feed an avs to automkv and automkv will process it without touching (just set resizer not to automatic.. or you will trigger the automatic autoresize fuction.. also remember to turn off the deinterlacer.. since i suppose you have already written it in the avs..)

Could you please add an option to disable the "scanning" of AVI files ?
i use mediainfo as info grabber (plus using an avs as source analyzer).. .. i cannot promise such change

AutoMKV throws in all available plugins and imports all scripts without taking in account if they are needed or not
user should interact with \exe folders (and so filter folder) only if know what to do
the big problem of dinamic plugins is to know what plugins are needed for every filters AND scripts used! (like limitedsharpenfaster, mvdenoise ...).. not a easy task

and x264^n
i have no problem reading ini or adding custom command
i will glady support it (but must be command line "commandable")

Thanks zacoz and buzzqw:thanks:

I am away now and will try these suggestions when I get back, but it looks like I'll be a happy camper:-)

What about appending more than one set of Video_ts files (like LOTR Extended, which is two discs) or more than one set of evo_files (like King Kong, which has both on the same disc)? Is this currently possible?

BTW, I use the latest K-Lite Full and it works best in my case: my old NVIDIA MPEG2 codec, which looks best to me in MCE, stutters on Live TV, while the codecs that came with my new PowerDVD 7.3 give me black screen in MCE (I read something about PowerDVD no longer allows MCE to use its codecs (I might be wrong, but it doesn't work for me, so...) Anyway, the default configuration for K-Lite (except that I selct Cyberlink for MPEG2) works perfectly to rip with AutoMKV and play within Vista MCE. (One important note, the Audio codec of K-Lite defaults to Stereo, I had to change this to SPDIF manually to get DD/DTS 5.1/61 from my receiver).

Thanks again.

I am having no luck with AutoMKV recently. Whenever I do a AppleTV encode or a CQ-H264 encode I get a memory read error (or some other type of error) from BAutoDeint.exe. I don't even know what to look at to try to resolve this problem.

I did use a Linux memory scanner to test my memory (from a Ubuntu startup disk) and my memory is fine.
