delete these file from your \windows\system32
avcodec-51.dll
avformat-51.dll
avutil-49.dll
FFMpegSource.dll
postproc-51.dll
swscale-0.dll
zlib1.dll
then take from \exe\encoder the same file and put into \windows\system32
then try the preview (load a previus made d2v file)

Hi all,
I tried this program again today, after a horrible experience in the very early stages of development. All I can say is it's looking and working VERY well now! Well done, and keep up the good work!
So that being said, I have a question: how can I force this program to only do one pass? I created my own profile (the hard way, editing XML), but cannot for the life of me figure out how to control if this thing does 1/2/3 passes on the video. Can that be set?
Thanks!

Is AutoMKV using --trellis 2 for the first pass of a two pass encoding?
I read about it here. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1028772#post1028772)

Drop down the profile box.
Some of the profiles are 1pass_xxx (xxx being fast, high performance, etc...)
You can check the box "all profiles" too and select "one pass good quality" from there. I assume you can also do 1 pass CRF encoding too (never tried it).
IMO the built in profiles are pretty dam good. You can tweak it though too in the Advanced Profile Editing tab (like add AQ, change deblocking options, etc...)
Furthermore, if your thinking about 3 passes, don't. You don't need it. There is no quality gained. The only reason you would ever need 3 passes is if the first 2 passes miss the desired file size and overshoot on it (which AutoMKV doesn't do, AFAIK).

Oh, I understand all about x264 - I'm an meGUI veteran. I created my own profile loosely based on Sharktooth's HQ-slow and put it in the profiles/x264 folder. I can select the profile, but cannot find a way of telling it to do 1/2 passes with that profile.

@jefrey
found the error (is due to no filter, no resize, no colormatrix...) fixed in next release, now add a filter at least , i suggest to apply an undot()
@InorganicMatter
how can I force this program to only do one pass?
for 1 pass CRF change <EncodingMode> to 9
for 1 pass bitrate based change <EncodingMode> to 0
for 2 pass bitrate bsaed change <EncodingMode> to 4
no option for 3 pass is present
@wizboy11
Is AutoMKV using --trellis 2 for the first pass of a two pass encoding
trellis is used only in second pass (on 2 pass profile, not used in first pass) as specified by profile
2 pass balanced = trellis 1
2 pass better = trellis 1
2 pass extreme = trellis 1
2 pass insane = trellis 2

Thanks! I spent weeks creating and tweaking a high-quality profile in meGUI that converted at ~60fps and only needs one pass to look good. I used an XML comparison tool against one of the included profiles and "imported" my meGUI profile into AutoMKV. Converted a movie last night to compare the quality, this one by and far is much better looking than Nero AVC and much easier to use than meGUI. I'm very happy. :)

To reproduce:
1) Click the [!!!] button in the "audio track 1" properties section in the first tab, and then set the Nero Profile from "AUTO" to "LC".
2) Close the audio properties dialog.
3) Open it again.
4) The Nero Profile has now been reset to "AUTO".
Now I haven't actually checked to see whether the resulting audio is actually encoded as "Low Complexity" (recommended for XBox playback BTW), 'cause I'm not sure how to do that yet.
Is this a bug, or am I missing something?
Using: v0.87 on Win2003 Server SP2, Intel Core2 6400, 1Gig Ram.
Encoding to MP4, x284, xbox_hiRes profile, 1300mbps, Nero AAC LC audio.

It may go back to "auto" in the settings page but it is really gonna use whatever you last selected. Baffled me a few times two when I tried using HE profile. I selected it, then went back into settings to make sure that it was on and it was back to auto. So your not alone. But it does use whatever you last selected, I've tested that for sure.
As long as you don't go back into settings, it'll use the last one selected. This goes for .87 or any version for that matter (AFAIK).
And if your gonna playback on an xbox I'd recommend ogg as your audio choice and xvid as your video. Xvid+AAC should be alright though. AVC (h264/x264) is what kills playback on the xbox.

I got this error message when encoding: http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4317/help1ag7.jpg
Also, if would be helpful if someone made another thread/site giving their own tut's on how encode anime/movies. Also to better explain the resizers. For instance, what does the Bicubicresize do, or the Simpleresize. What are the pros and cons of those? I was an AutoGK user, and when I heard that it wasn't being developed further, I started searching for another encoder. I found this and it looked like a godsend. But, it lacks the in-depth explanation of features, and lack of tut's for encoding. Also, the filters. Just what does each of them do, exactly? For major anime/movie encoders, these are important questions. But I do like how it is moving along, and any help will be appreciated.

The error is a bug that should be fixed in the next build. fix not out yet, but conformation posted here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1028262#post1028262)
Just manually select the deinterlacer for now. (run the "test deint" next to the deinterlacer options, that option should still work, read page two pages back, I think it's on that page)
I'll make a page on the wiki I guess about what your asking. That sound alright? :) (but tomorrow, I'm tired :p, maybe later)

hey buzz,
thanks for writing such a great program! i tried automkv again this time with reinstalled windows .net and it worked! however, i still have some minor issues as posted http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=128407
would you be able to help me out? either post here or there is fine. here is what i wrote:
i managed to get it working! the problem was with staxrip. i didnt properly try automkv before giving up, as it kept on crashing. i realise the problem is that it needs windows .net 2.0. once downloaded i can encode properly, with audio in sync.
automkv is a much better program as well, with a better interface. also, loading an ifo makes more sense that loading all the vob files and then cutting.
however, the subtitles are out of sync. both movies i did were 13000ms out of sync (approx). this isnt too bad a problem as i can fix it via adding delay, but do you know why? i tried playing it back using VLC, zoom player and media player on 2 diff comps. Same problem.
could this be caused by codecs installed on the encoding machine? i am uninstalling all codecs and simply installing the CCCP to encode again and see tonight.
also, i noticed for one movie there is a slight audio delay (apocalypto 1000ms). again easily fixed via adding delays in the decoder, but i am wondering why?
thanks

@buzzqw
I have built x264 and xvidcore.dll that I think are faster then the ones currently included. I built x264 for myself, but I decided to build them both for AutoMKV.
I know for a fact that x264 is slightly faster (like 1-3%, thanks probably to newer GCC optimizations). Haven't tested xvid core, should also be slightly faster, at least on my Opteron it was.
Both were built using the newest GCC 4.2.1.
You can find them *link removed, see below*

The Nero Profile has now been reset to "AUTO".
as reported in Wiki Also, every time you will open this window the values will be reset, but don't be afraid, after set values first times AutoMKV will remember these values till next open of Advanced Audio Settings
and i don't want change this behavior
@Nightshiver
first of all Welcome to the Forum!
i am sorry but wizboy11 is in error.
This problem is due to "temp" folder
it is simply a crash on bautodeint...
on "avi" source seems that bautodeint is more prone to crash on analysis... but i can suggest this... if your file is avi is probably that it is already deinterlaced... so in advanced settings, on deinterlacer set NONE
about resizer: is short words the list of deinterlacer are in order of precision... from less precise (blurring) to most precise (sharpen)
about filters for anime.. i an not a anime encoder (at all) so i can suggest only the obvius filters like convolution3d (preset for anime) , deen and cnr2
@peter_h
The VirtualDubMod.exe process remains in the process list (Task Manager) even after AutoMKV is closed.
automkv launch virtualdub with autoclose option
i suppose that something gone wrong in muxing and so virtualdubmod remained open... (aka i need more information for debug)
@Daedalus01
is that it needs windows .net 2.0
automkv don't need any framework!
and... all your delays are due to heavy anticopy protections of those dvd (as said try using fixvts or vobblanker in movie only mode)
@wizboy11
thanks for the build i will test it
for x264 is included the new aq patch ?
and for xvid the fix for b frames decoding ?

Uses the same source as Cef's 667b so it's using whatever patches he uses (like AQ).
I'm questioning what option to use for the march though seen here. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1029159#post1029159)
It doesn't use SSE after all but thats only like 1% and since most of it is written in asm anyway it doesn't really affect it.
I'm wondering, do you want sse in the x264 build in automkv?
You can get generic (non-sse) ones here. (http://www.esnips.com/doc/d77f6245-c802-4d57-9dcc-4bbaebc32872/builds2)
Probably better then the ones I posted before (also, run --version on x264 ;))

here your errors
14:51:20 Using Matrix: ustomQuantizerMatrix
you have played manually with the matrixs... and
this matrix doesn't exist...
14:51:20 Track Language 1: NONE
no audio selected... for avi select the movie name as audio track

Eh? I never even messed with the matrixes. I didn't alter anything in the advanced settings tab, so I really don't know how that happened. As for the audio, it said that in the Audio Track 1 I had an audio source selected. Here's a pic: http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/5203/help1zw8.jpg
PS: I found out the matrix problem. I guess I must have selected custom by accident. I set it to NONE now.

I'm getting that as my matrix too, but only sometimes. But I always mess with mine so it's normally not a problem I guess.
I think it might be reproducible.
Select Xvid as the encoder then select 2 pass insane quality. Then go into advanced settings and you should see it.
Bug maybe?
Edit:
Why am I getting this (all the frames, even on a default, nothing changed version, and it doesn't minimize either.):
http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/5867/xvidgd1.jpg
Edit2:
This is only present in v0.88, I've tested 0.87 and it's fine (and the problem appears no matter what settings, even if I change the xvidcore.dll with one that I've build, it still happens.
Unless this is all on purpose. But I guess I just don't like it if it is :)

@Nightshiver
Bug maybe?
in insane profile is missing < in matrix.. so it's bug!
fixed in next full package
now simply edit the 2_Pass_Insane_Quality.xml and modify
this <CustomQuantizerMatrix>NONECustomQuantizerMatrix> to this <CustomQuantizerMatrix>NONE<CustomQuantizerMatrix>
@wizboy11
.... ... you should see this
http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/7294/clipboard01qa4.png
as for x264..
and it doesn't minimize either.): :confused:
what are your settings ?

can someone tell me why,if i use ffmpeg in the avs script, the encoder encode only 90000 frames instead of 190000? thats suckz really.because ffmpeg = mp4 (hd) works on ps3 and directshowsource = mp4 didnt work
there is no trim or other commands in the avs ;(

nice news, i will try it later an report :)

I didn't realize that it used a stats thing like x264.
I always uncheck the "use x264 stats" so I guess thats why I'm getting that.
Is there a way to get back the old xvid command line without all the frames showing (like when you uncheck "use x264 stats" it changes something?)
And when you uncheck "stats" neither x264 or xvid minimize (if thats what they're suppose to do, I don't know)
Thanks.
BTW, I think that ffmpegsource is up to v1.6 now isn't it?
buzzqw

Is there a way to get back the old xvid command line
ok!
yes , 1.6!
i added a check in next update that will check for ffmpegsource library in \windows\system32 (crc32)

i fell guilty ;)
... ... i added vfw support...
is possible to use 1pass or 2 passes, user must set the bitrate... but before encoding a pop-up will inform of the computed average bitrate and will allow to reopen the vfw interface and re-save with correct bitrate :cool:
wait next update!

i added vfw support
...tsk, tsk... this is dangerous! :) btw... any chance to get bitrate value auto-inserted in the HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1202660629-1275210071-682003330-1003\Software\GNU\ffdshow_enc\bitrate1000 key? :D

i know the xvid bitrate key too..
but since "it's limited supported" i don't want to edit registry
even more.. i don't know what codec users have selected (well i don't to know... now ;) )

Ohh gawwwwsh, please don't do that! Once you start down that path, there is no turning back, and supporting that ancient technology is just ASKING for trouble and headaches. Please, please, please don't ruin this perfect piece of software.

is more or less what users usully do with virtualdub
i simply put a convenient interface for building the avs scritp and muxing...
as i said it will be a limited support, aka very low priority in bug fixing
also .. due to codec configuration done only by user this will incentivate the non usage... (i hope)
in my test i only used xvid , divx 6.0.x and VP7.. in both matroska and avi without hassle

P.S. ... i a raptus.. i have thinked even to add hcenc support ...

...IMHO this would be a good feature, indeed.
limited support [...] very low priority in bug fixing [...] this will incentivate the non usage
...maybe you can even hide that option behind some strange leftCtrl+rightAlt+shift+F12 combination! ;)

Wow... AutoMKV has quickly become to be quite an encoding beast :D
Have you given any thought to creating an "AutoMP4" only encoding application, for all of us .MP4 container enthusiasts?
Offering support for MPEG-4 Part-2 (using Xvid), MPEG-4 Part-10 (using x264) video, AAC-LC and HE audio (using CT) and VOBsubs...... Like a free-to-use Recode2 buster ;)
Just a thought

Thanks for the software. This is shaping very nicely.
Anyway, a while back there were some issues with multichannel (5.1) encoding from ac3 to wma that I thought were fixed - but I still can't get it to work. it looks like the intermediate wav file is of the right format. That is, it is multichannel, and I can feed it to, for example, windows media encoder, to convert to wma multichannel format. But when I try to manually create avs file where the wav file is opened by directshowsource, and feed it to wvcmd.vbs - I get an error which says something along the lines: 'not in the correct format'.
And I can't get ffmpegsource working at all - I'm not sure if it would help anyway. First, ffmpegsource should be loaded via load_stdcall_plugin (I think, per ffmpegsource documentation) - which is not what automkv seems to be doing. But even if I do that avisynth still complains that the plugin could not be loaded.
Any comments? Has anyone successfully encoded ac3 to 5.1 wma via AutoMKV?

Doesn't AutoMKV already allow muxing into mp4?
And I agree. AutoMKV has become quite the encoding monster. I think it's easy to use but offers some very powerful features if you know how to use them. I think AutoMKV suits both the professional and n00b alike. Personally, I think it's better then MeGui.
I never used AutoMKV untill about v0.74 so I guess I'll never know were it truly came from. But even from .74, it's come a long way.
All hail buzzqw, the AutoMKV GOD!!! :p
:thanks:

Go into ffdshow audio decoder->Codecs-> Change uncompressed to "all supported" then try directshowsource again with the wav file.
You can also use wavsource:
WAVSource("C:\Audio\audio.wav")

Explained here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1027951&highlight=ffmpeg#post1027951
FIXED: Neither libsndfile-1.dll or fftw3.dll or all library needed to ffmpegsource will be need to put in systems folder. But if script is opened (virtualdub/mpc...) after automkv was close , will be some errors. Now AutoMKV will set a tempoary PATH variable for those files. Only for Preview is needed to copy those file.
Added:
I just copied all the ffmpeg libraries to the system32 folder and it is working for me.

Q: the "ffmpeg" library you talk about putting in System32 ... did you download the Latest ffmpeg and just plugged it in there!?!?:confused:
Thanks,

Cool. :) It's not that we don't appreciate you adding support into AutoMKV, it's just that I'm in software development too and I know that as soon as you add an official feature, the bug reports start flooding in and your time to make new innovations gets chipped away by fixing bugs in supporting old technology. I just don't want AutoMKV to get dragged down like that.
