I know this doesn't really concern me but why rename it?
It shouldn't matter whether it says Removegrain.dll/Removegrainsse3.dll or w/e it may be.

I thought that, from what I've heard, get used either way.

Edit:
I put Removegrainsse3.dll in the filter folder, deleted the old one and it still worked AFAIK.

Actually, open AutoMKV, change the audio slider to 128, save settings, close AutoMKV.

Re-open AuMKV and the audio slider is at 64.

Encoding a .flv file to .wmv (Zune 1 pass quick profile).

The input is an AVS script:
global video=directShowSource("C:\Video\xmas_lights.flv", audio=false, fps=29.97)
global audio=directShowSource("C:\Video\xmas_lights.flv", video=false, fps=29.97)
audio=DelayAudio(audio, -1.0)
audiodub(video, audio)
Note that the "global" declarations make no difference in the problem to be reported here.

The movie.avs file is:
Import("C:\Video\xmas_lights.avs"), which is just importing my input AVS script. It plays OK in Media Player Classic.

The WME encoder script crashes with an error number after correctly determining the length. Can't read the error number -- it disappears too fast.

The very strange thing is: if I run the movie_wmv.bat file created in the temp folder, it encodes OK!

I can also use this AVS input to get a successful encoding using my own batch files that I had created before I started using AutoMKV.

I've tried this with another AVS source file that I had used before and it doesn't have this problem. :confused: It appears that when AutoMKV runs movie_wmv.bat it causes an error that doesn't happen if the batch file is run outside of AutoMKV. :confused:

Hello all, first of all I would just like to say thanks for this great utility, all the work really is appreciated.

That said, I think I may have come across a slightly obscure bug with AutoMKV (or maybe autocrop). There seems to be a slight incompatibility between deinterlacing (or processing film) and autocrop on some occasions. On a few 4:3 movies I have tested there are serious chroma aberrations that seem to stem from autocrop cropping on mod2 offsets instead of mod4 (though the height is mod4). eg: Crop(8,2,708,476).

Bad:6991

Now if I move the tfm().tdecimate() line above all the autocrop stuff (accommodating the movie variable of course) or manually crop on a mod4 offset this doesn't happen. eg: Crop(8,4,708,476)

Good:6992

The easy fix would be to deinterlace before autocropping, or for the end user to manually enter mod4 offsets (easy for me, almost no cropping is needed). The more elegant fix lies somewhere in autocrop.dll though I'm afraid. It's not supposed to pick non mod4 offsets in yv12 ever, but it apparently does sometimes.

If this has all been discussed before, I am very sorry, I just noticed it when watching my futurama rips on my htpc.

@vgiozo and ALL

i will solve this problem drastically.
In next update i will reintroduce Normalize() in audio script.
On my pc (p4 2.8 1gb ram) the analysis last 10 minutes before start encoding (on Matrix film), for me is ok.

@wizboy11
you are perfecly right. AutoMKV will load the dll in \exe\filter

@Shark_jlc
on my side is correct... (but maybe i had already fixed it..)

@dlflannery
In next update i will use the new wmcmd.vbs, a lot more reliable, this will solve the "big number" error

@Tobytl
in this rare cause i suggest to use the manual crop and resize in advanced settings

Assuming I have an Mpeg-2, 4:3 AR movie @ 720x576...
Is there some way I can tweek the MKV container into muxing the file @ 16:9 DAR... ???

I know that most players would support a 16:9 playback anyway... but an automatically correct playback would be perfect !!!

I love the idea of encoding @ 720x576 and then stretching... rather than stretching to 1024x576 first and then encoding with the huge and unnecessary increase in filesize.

:thanks:

I downloaded the latest wmcmd.vbs (3/22/2007) and substituted for the version in 0.79a. It made no difference in the problem.

Did you understand that the movie_wmv.bat (created by AutoMKV) runs OK when launched outside AutoMKV but the exact same batch file has an error when launched by AutoMKV ? One possibility to explain this is that AutoMKV is prematurely terminating the process running the wmcmd.vbs (?). I get .wmv files of varying lengths each time I run this encode in AutoMKV.

btw
The clip starts up in 16:9 (is this correct ?).

***NOTE***
I think there's something wrong with Zoom Player... if I set the AR to Derived (recommended)... BoB produces a 4:3 DAR while Fox has a DAR between 4:3 and 16:9.
With MediaPlayer Classic (v 6.4) set to Keep Aspect Ratio... BoB and Fox play automatically @ 16:9...
How wierd is that !!!

btw2
When encoding BoB on Original do I 'tick' Anamorphic aswell as change "Force Muxing AR" (default is Automatic) ?
Actually both those Muxing boxes could be included into 1 box.

Hi Buzz,

There does appear to be something "hinky" regarding your "2-35 MKV" sample!

Upon playback in MPC the image appears to be displayed at something like 3.12:1, instead of 2.35:1.

EDIT: This is what I see: -

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/808/whatiseeux5.th.jpg (http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=whatiseeux5.jpg)

I've just added a screen-shot (to my previous post) of what I see when playing your 2-35.MKV source in MPC with Haali's Matroska filter...

With regard to de-muxing....

Normally I'm able to use AVI-Mux_GUI to de-mux the AVC stream out of the MKV container (to a .RAW stream - which in reality is an elementary .H264 stream). Then I use YAMB/MP4Box to mux the .H264 stream into .MP4

Apparently this is a case of directShowSource being "very picky and nasty".

I changed the input AVS from:
video=directShowSource("C:\Video\xmas_lights.flv", audio=false, fps=29.97)
audio=directShowSource("C:\Video\xmas_lights.flv", video=false, fps=29.97)
audio=DelayAudio(audio, -1.0)
audiodub(video, audio)
to:
directShowSource("C:\Video\xmas_lights.flv", fps=29.97)
delayAudio(-1.0)
and it encoded OK!

I can only guess that running the movie_wmv.bat from AutoMKV provides a different Windows environment than when you run it outside AutoMKV, and this triggers the quirks of DirectShowSource or DirectX or ..?

Sorry to bother you guys again, but I ran into another problem when I set the Futurama batch to run while I slept. It appears that if you manually set the crop, you don't actually get film decimation (maybe no deinterlacing at all, but haven't tested other methods). It produces this bit of script:
...

last = movie
tfm(d2v="E:\DVD\Futurama\301\temp\movie.d2v").tdecimate()
crop(movie,8,0,-8,-0)
#resizestart

#test4

LanczosResize(704,528)
...

As you can see, it sets the movie variable (the mpeg2source data) to the default variable. Does the film processing/decimating on that default variable (last). Then just crops the original, non film processed/decimated movie variable, and returns it. So the end result is still interlaced (telecined).

You already have Media Player Classic, ffdshow is just a big decoder pack. It also has some adjustment options for picture quality on playback, you can find it here (http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiwiki/tiki-view_articles.php). I'm not sure where Matroska Splitter is on the web, I got it from installing the Lazy Man's MKV (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA022257/matroska/) tools.

Remember that the maximum width of DVD-video is 720px. Therefore, it is impossible to encode at 1024xanything and not have resizing. If you don't resize, where is the encoder going to get the extra pixels from?
Why you asking me...??? For all I know... the extra pixels come from PixieLand !!!

I have a question you can probably answer: Is it possible to encode using Constant Quality-CRF and have the encoder set the quality setting? Like if I set a container size, have the encoder check to see how complex the movie is and then set the quality level to suit the final size? Or am I just describing how regular encoding works now. :D
You're going to have to really tone down your questions a hang of a lot more... this is like "The Weakest Link" stuff... I've got the maturity of a 4 yr old, the IQ to match and I'am also very bad with guessing games... but that sounds pretty much like an HQ 2-pass... where the encoder is judging the necessary quality for the second pass... in a CRF kinda way.

This would, of course, not be possible with ConstantQuality-QP since each Quantizer can only have 1 filesize... so if you choose a filesize in-between 2 Quantizers... you're missing the boat by up to, potentially, 50% (half Qx and half Q(x+1))... meaning, half your movie would have lesser quality than the other half... the ultimate inconsistency.

@buzzqw

IF someone selects "Original" and
IF anamorphic and
IF mkv container

THEN AutoMKV should automatically set the anamorphic muxing

ELSE not 'mkv container' and they'll have to set the DAR manually on the player ???

ELSE not anamorphic... np

ELSE not "original"... np

This should be done automatically by AutoMKV if someone chooses the "Original" Resolution option !!!

automkv will judge the width/height based on quality and disk settings (on autoresize)

one more way if to select crf profile and HIT Media Size, in that case automkv will try to "guess" the crf needed to fit media and if fail will switch to 2 pass encoding (actually just one more pass, since crf encoding is the first pass)

I'm re-encoding "Band of Brothers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_of_Brothers)" @ full resolution & Q22... it's marginally too big... and I'm on a budget... 2 DVD's...

Well, there are 10 episodes each with the same Intro & Credits...
I'm not one to "torch" the intro's and stuff but perhaps I could slice them all out and keep 1 Intro & Credit... linked into an xml menu... which would then play for each episode.

The episodes are only 1 hour long so that they (the I's & C's) actually add up to a whopping 9% of each episode... which is 900MB over 2 DVD's and which are unnecessary anyway.
It's not as totally straight-forward as that since the intro isn't always completely at the beginning... in half the episodes, the interview starts first.

What can I use to slice up the VOB's since AutoMKV doesn't have that pre-encoding option like Virtual Dub and others... ?
I'm also considering a HQ 2-pass aswell since I'm getting a good idea of the 'proportional' size of each episode with the 1-pass CQ-CRF encodes... and I gather a good 2-pass can even further increase the quality.

Actually, I get the following error:

Avisynth open failure:
I don't know what "audio" means (D:\temp\movie.avs, line 85)

There is no error, it calculates the length incorrectly:

I should have picked up on this error myself though my H264 command line syntax is a bit poor...
I used to be a Tutor at UCT (http://www.uct.ac.za/) to the first year Pascal (http://www.powells.com/cgi-bin/biblio?inkey=4-0393954455-1) students...

Syntax errors are deadly and totally unforgiving... though Pascal was quite student-friendly...
In your case it looks like you've deleted the "<" in <BitrateQuantizer>18</BitrateQuantizer>

Replace it and you're well on the road to script and profile modding...

I'm playing around with exactly how much the quality/file size changes with the Quantizer, yes. I'm not making permanent changes to the profile, though.

How come the width changes to 720px with the ConstantQuality profile? Shouldn't it be AUTO or Original?

Pascal

Good lord. If that what was causing this the whole time I feel really stupid. I've had this happen a couple times before and I never knew why.

good point, should be original, thanks!

sorry if i seemed harsh.. don't want ! i can only suggest to duplicate the profile, while leaving intect the orginal, and so working on duplicate :)

P.S. btw... in next release you will welcome in "thanks" section of license.txt. One of the few that have answered on questions of other forummers ! thanks!

I have a request. In advanced audio settings, can we have the values retained until AutoMKV is restarted? Right now if I go in an make changes like setting a title for the muxxed file or adding "Director's commentary" to an audio track name, I hit save and the window closes, but if I reopen it everything gets reset back.

If you are encoding DVD (or VOB, MPEG2) to WMV and haven't tried "Film" in the deinterlacer setting, do so. (Try auto first.)

If you have gspot or dgindex and know how to use them you can check to see if the the video is telecined (film) but just trying the setting in AutoMKV may be as quick and easy.

I can also recommend VideoReDo (http://www.videoredo.com)for cleaning up the .vob files (and it will join them for you). You can free-trial it uncrippled -- just download, install, and ask for the free trial key.

The way to apply MORE gain is to DE-CHECK Normalize AND in last option of advanced audio setting, at right of Pith and none, in the blank space write something like Amplifydb(15) this command force an audio gain of 15 decibel, in this way YOU must choose the gain, since in no more automatic

BHH

I did what you suggested. Either I misunderstood or I found a bug because it never got louder. After trying a couple of times, I made it 25 decibel (wondering if I just couldn't hear a difference or something). Here's the log; I think it still is "normalizing" the volume even though I unchecked the box.

Interestingly, this music video doesn't need to be any louder. However the movie from the same DVD (same rip by DVDFab) is quiet. I need to find time to do more research on why...

Thank you for your continuing help.

If you are encoding DVD (or VOB, MPEG2) to WMV and haven't tried "Film" in the deinterlacer setting, do so. (Try auto first.)

...

It's always on auto, and that hasn't worked for this particular movie, neither did setting it to film. Thanks though :/

@nx6
as you know i reset all advanced setting every time the window is open. BUT automkv remember the settings till next reopen of advanced audio settings.
About memorizing this settings (even with save settings) could cause user to "apply without remember" same settings.

i prefer to let it be set every time

@dlflannery
well said

@BixMix
wmv encoding. this is the key!
advanced audio settings aren't applied to wmv encoding.
Audio will ne normalized in wmv from next version!

@Shark_jlc
what is reported by deint.log ?

Hi buzzqw

is there any chance of getting the subtitle track 1 and subtitle track 2 drop down boxes to display something instead of NONE when using external subtitles. Maybe something like "Using External Subtitles".

Also do you plan to add any support for forced subtitles?

@Shark_jlc
what is reported by deint.log ?
BHH

Here is the deint.log file when the AutoMKV deinterlacer dropdown is set to Auto.

@AMED
i will look... but not now.. and not so easy... since the external subtitle are not exclusive of one selected

about cc, have you at hand the link on vsrip and cc? (or i will search myself)

@Shark_jlc

thanks, wait for approval

@ALL
in next update i will introduce ffmpeg.exe as encoder
till now i have added support (limited) for flv, rv10, mpeg2video, msmpeg4v2.
I tryed even snow... but i miss surely something
