no, sorry. each full rip in one folder. OR put all in one folder, then create the d2v files for each movie and demux only the audio you want (named accordly to movie name).Then you can queue the d2v+audio works
Thanks much though perhaps we (you) could use the idea of watch folders as implemented by Dr DivX (http://stage6.divx.com/Dr_DivX/show_video/1010870) which would allow numerous rips in 1 folder to be automatically encoded according to a specific profile.
As to the default resolution options... Auto, 720, 704, etc... perhaps you could include 'Original'.
I realise that most people use encoding to crunch or compress their movies by 60%, 80% or more... mostly through downsizing and then partly through the elimination of extraneous audio tracks & extras. Only a small fraction of the compression is actually due directly to the new codec... though H264 (Mpeg4 P10) has very a significant advantage over Mpeg2 material.
Nothing beats the quality of original resolution by eliminating the downsizing process.
:) :D :eek:

Maybe this isn't exactly the appropriate place to ask this, but it has happened with two dvd ripped movies that subtitles are not shown on video...
(would it be illegal to name those two movies, or could I do that for reference purposes? )
I encoded those movies both with autoMKV and Nero Recode and the subtitles are not shown, although I have all necessary software installed and did not omit any relevant step in the encoding procedure...
DirectVobSub loads, the "Show subtitles" setting is selected, so as the relevant subtitle, but they are not actually displayed...
I even tried ripping the subs with a different program, removing those embedded and merging the new subtitle files to no avail...
Even having internal AND external subs did not help and choosing between the two...
What is at fault here? Should I use an earlier version of DirectVobSub, or is it due to a bad rip? (I re-ripped both movies 2-3 times...in this case, maybe not all protection was properly removed ? )

anyway.. are you using mediaplayer classic ?
try reinstalling directvobsub by the link i posted

Hi buzzqw !
Sorry that i am not so present here in the forum as i was in the past. I have some big changes in my Job so give me 2 weeks or so and i will do all the tests and bring back my lazy buddy in here again ..8)
The problem is ... your Program is getting near perfect now ... and so all the freaks out there seems to be some kind of "pleased". Please ... never give up ... you do a very great job in here ... even if it gets some kind of silent (3 Votes only).
Best IT is when you here nothing about the IT ....8) Thats the time it is running kind of perfect ... same with your program.

How would I do a grayscale encode in AutoMKV? I remember there being a checkbox on MkvMagic's advanced settings. I might be ripping a DVD of an old B&W film soon and would like to reap the space savings if I can define it as a grayscale job.

Sounds awesome... does the entire encode need to be in grayscale to truly benefit ?
I'm keen to encode 'The World at War' and 'The Cold War' series both of which are over 20 hrs long and 'mostly' in B&W... but not completely.

I don't know much about video encoding, but in still images Greyscale is typically 256 shades (4 bit), so comparing this to a full color (24 bit image) we're dealing with a colorspace that is only 1/6th the size. Even if this is done in a higher depth grayscale (the limit seems to be 16bit) we're still drastically reducing the actual palette used to draw the image.
So the answer is YES. You would have to encode the entire movie as grayscale for this to work. I don't think it is possible to dynamically change the bit depth of a video file while its playing, so whatever type you set it up as would be the number of colors assumed for the entire feature.
Logically, bandwidth not being used to handle so many more colors can be put to use on lowering image compression, so you would get much better image quality in a file of the same disk size. Or not used at all, so the encoding bitrate would just be lower and you would have a film of the same quality as the "full color" encoded one, but without unneeded bulk.
Also, since we would be reducing the actual color palette, compression artifacts wouldn't have the ability to show up in color on a B&W movie (which would be very noticeable).
If anyone can correct me on this I'd be happy to hear.
I might try encoding twice so I can see exactly what sort of saving I get from it. But it would be hard to gauge the exact benefits since I can't set a certain "image quality" for the encode and then use an unlimited movie size to see the difference between 4-bit grayscale and 24-bit color. Plus modern compression algorithms may make the difference less drastic.

Well, you can in fact set the image quality by using the ConstantQuality-crf.xml profile set at, lets say, 22... or even leave it at the default of 18. This is a 1-pass unlimited filesize encode that 'gets it right the 1st time'... guided by your quality setting... higher numbers producing less quality and vice versa. 18 is near-perfect quality while 22 is still Excellent and 24 is Good quality.
This will also save you time along with all the adjoining benefits of Consistency, Efficiency and Effectiveness.

Ah, I'll have to try that. I haven't had a chance to futz around with the profiles as I've been struggling to get a project to finish successfully in AutoMKV up to this point (and I've just now gotten there). [putting on dunce cap]
I still haven't gotten episodic DVD ripping (straight from DVD to MKV) to work properly, I'm not getting the right audio track options in AutoMKV when I use an .IFO file other than the one the program chooses by default (the one that rips all episodes into one single movie). But I realized today that DVDFabDecrypter can rip individual episodes from the DVD very nicely, it even lets me preview the episode so I don't have to guess what IFO to use and lets me pick the audio and subtitle tracks I want to rip there. So I preripped one today and set AutoMKV to processing before I left for work, so if that comes out fine I can concentrate of actually getting the best quality image I can in my size specification.
Speaking of quality settings, how do I interpret the AAC audio quality settings? I'm used to using bitrates for audio settings, but the AAC encoder is using some weird .1 -> 1.0 scale, how are these related to file size or quality?

Ah, I think I understand you now. Since I ripped only the audio and subtitle tracks I wanted with DVDFabDecrypter, I don't have to define them in AutoMKV. I can just choose "All Audio Tracks" and "RIP ALL SUBS", which I just now tried, and the audio encoded this time and I got the final mkv file.
The only downside is the audio tracks are both labeled "und" in VLC media player.

stable NEW package WITH DVDFabDecrypter www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV078.rar (8.38mb, all inclusive, NO install)
stable NEW package WITHOUT DVDFabDecrypter www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV078_NORIP.rar (7.96mb, NO install)
0.78 Full Package 13/03/2007
ADDED: Is now possible to specify AVS input in AUDIO (suggestion by dlflannery)
Build your avs inputs as these examples:
for Videoinput.avs: directshowsource("C:\apps\test\movie.avi",audio=false)+directshowsource("C:\apps\test\movie.avi",audio=false)
for Audioinput.avs directshowsource("C:\apps\test\movie.avi",video=false)+directshowsource("C:\apps\test\movie.avi",video=false)
ADDED: --deadzone-inter and --deadzone-intra support to x264 profiles, change "false" to value you want (like 4)
ADDED: Process this PGC option
ADDED: PGC ripping. Only on ifo input (or dvd input) will be possible to select the specific PGC to process. Example, the vts_02_0.ifo contain 3 pgc , 3 episodes, before selecting input check both process this ifo and process this pgc. After selecting input select from the drop down list the pgc you want to process (correct subtitles ripping isn't guarantee)
ADDED: In XviD profiles added a new option <muxing> (if used only for avi container). This option can be valorized as: <muxing>auto</muxing> or <muxing>avi10</muxing> or <muxing>opendml</muxing>. On auto will be AutoMKV to select the better muxing, on avi10 will be forced the AVI 1.0 mux, on opendml will be forced OpenDML muxing
ADDED: To Queue and to save settings the pgc check
ADDED: On "Audio wasn't encoded properly" now AutoMKV will ask for continue or quit. The question is "timed", so after 120 seconds AutoMKV will continue, even if the muxing would be broken
ADDED: "Use DirectShowSource for Audio" to Save Setting and Queue
ADDED: Preset PAR to WMV encoding, the value of <pixelratio> could be
10:11 for DV NTSC fullscreen
40:30 for DV NTSC widescreen 40:33
12:11 for DV PAL fullscreen 12:11
16:11 for DV PAL widescreen 16:11
ADDED: AutoMKV will check for NeroAACEnc presence and if not found will offer the possibility to download (will simply start default browser on official Nero Digital Audio page)
ADDED: Command line help will be invoked even by -? (suggestion by Demeragon) (and by "/?" "?" "--?" "-help" "--help")
ADDED: Support for SoundOut. BePipe will be no more used. No more need of .NET Framework. Look at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120025&highlight=soundout
ADDED: SoundOut need that libsndfile-1.dll is in program path. On first start AutoMKV will ask to copy into c:\windows\system32 . Click YES button or Audio would be not encoded
ADDED: AutoMKV will save for every job its xml profile, so will be possible to "Use this profile" with queue. I hope to not break anything...
ADDED: "Original" in WIDTH selection. If selected "Original" the resizer will switch to NONE
FIXED: MP3 will support only official preset bitrate: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256, 320, also removed quality encoding, will remain ABR (default) and CBR encoding
FIXED: Coding Tech. AAC will be able to encode only up to 2ch (DPL II, DPL, Stereo, Mono). For encoding with AAC audio up to 5.1 Channel use Nero AAC Audio encoder
FIXED: ColorMatrix thread will be set to number of CPU*1.5. ColorMatrix will be faster.
FIXED: Episodic DVD/IFO and Process this PGC is avaiable only with ifo/dvd input
FIXED: Episodic DVD/IFO is renamed to Process this IFO
FIXED: AutoMKV, as reported in log will move original audio file to audio.XXX in \temp directory. Now it will copy this file (suggestion by dlflannery)
FIXED: When selecting on audio Copy Original the channel downmixing mode is disabled
FIXED: There are several refer to "ACC" audio instead of "AAC" audio (thanks to Demeragon)
FIXED: XviD threads will be set to automatic detection (suggestion by Demeragon)
FIXED: Several improvment to only audio encoding
FIXED: When encoding to WMV and movie is "Partly Film" then no more is used "Hybrid Decimating" but classical decimating (suggestion by Shark_jlc)
FIXED: AutoMKV will double count the size of audio on TS files (thanks to Prospero424)
FIXED: Better ToolTip for "Adjust CRF Profile". This option is to use only in conjuction with CRF profile and HIT MEDIA SIZE
FIXED: More robust use of XviD CQ profile and Hit Media Size
UPDATE: X264 to 628

Of course you'ld have to pre-analyse each movie to calculate the recommended width for each format (PAL, NTSC, 4:3, HD).

My CPU is running 97-100%, but task manager says it is x264.exe that is taking all the cycles, and I seem to have no disk activity like I usually would have.

I was trying to get both audio tracks and have them labeled correctly for VLC player. Anyway, these happened to be 5.1 audio tracks, is that why I am hanging now? I figured Nero would downmix as needed on its own.

FIXED: Coding Tech. AAC will be able to encode only up to 2ch (DPL II, DPL, Stereo, Mono). For encoding with AAC audio up to 5.1 Channel use Nero AAC Audio encoderI can't say I like this option at all.
CT's encoder is every bit as good at generating 6Ch AAC-LC and HE audio streams as Nero's - if not better.
Personally, I can't see much point of offering options such as, DPL II, DPL. As I can't see an instance when they would be used. In my opinion all that's needed is Mono, 2Ch (stereo) and 5.1 (6Ch) surround for both Nero and CT's encoder
Dare I say it... Maybe, my PM'd suggestion of being able to directly select CT's and Nero's AAC-LC and HE encoders via the "Basic Settings" menu (and not via the "Advanced Audio Menu") may prove useful after-all.... As even I find the "Advanced Audio Menu" a little too confusing to configure and rather unnecessary :eek:

Check your 'temp' encoding folder for the audio track... and take note of the filesize... I like to keep my 'audio track' of regular stereo encodes between 5% and 10% of the video filesize. You may be suitably impressed with a .25 quality setting... or less... depending on your application and constraints.
To save time... you could run your encode and when it's completed encoding the audio, check the filesize, listen and if necessary... cancel the encode and start again with new audio settings.

That was my mistake. I did not know Nero could handle 5.1 channel audio but you mention it in the release notes for this version. I thought it might get confused if 6 channels was input and it was only expecting 2. :p
I couldn't tell what Nero was doing as I just had the "beginning conversion..." message. No progress meter moving and no disk activity. It just appeared to be frozen. That and the unsupported format error is what led to my thinking.

Interesting, maybe my system was still running when I thought it had hung. I wish there was a progress meter or ETR listed somewhere if it is going to take so long to normalize.

The "set width resolution" used to go to 320 when a Zune profile was selected. Now it goes to "automatic" and 320 is not one of the pull down selections. Will automatic give the 320 needed for Zune, or does the number need to be entered manually?
Thanks
Edit, after some testing with Zune profiles:
1. It appears you do have to manually enter the 320 width for Zune profile encoding. (Better to have it automatically set -- 320 is the only width for Zune devices.)
2. Testing with two mpeg2 clips was fine with interlace set to auto. One clip was partly film, one was partly interlaced.
3. Wasn't quite sure what settings were needed for this AVS input file designed to splice multiple AVI files:
function makeMovie(string fileName) {
video=AVISource(fileName)
audio=getchannel(video,1,1)
return audiodub(video, audio).resampleAudio(44100)
}
makeMovie("C:\Video\NickPlane2006_12_27\NickPlane2.avi") ++
\ makeMovie("C:\Video\NickPlane2006_12_27\NickPlane3.avi")
What I found worked was:
1. Input the AVS video file. Do not input any files for audio when asked.
2. For audio track 1, use the pull-down menu and select the same AVS file name already loaded as the video input file.
3. Check use direct source for both video and audio (i.e., two check boxes are checked)
With these settings it encoded fine and the resize and autocrop functions were applied.
Is that the way you intended it to operate?
I noticed a colormatrix correction being applied -- I believe this is new isn't it? Playing movie.avs in WMP with and without the color correction, I saw no significant difference.
Except for having to manually enter the Zune width, all the WMV stuff looks great! :thanks: for all your work!

you can use chopperXP
BHH
Do you want part of the VOB, or part of the resultant movie?
After playing with ChopperXP, I see you want part of the VOB.... now I just need to find some place to put it.

update 0.78a
http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV078a.rar
FIXED: error on win2k, not having windows\system (thanks to BleedingGums)
FIXED: Normalize process now use the aacgain.exe, mp3gain.exe, VorbisGain.exe
how to update:
unrar, put aacgain.exe, mp3gain.exe, VorbisGain.exe into \exe\BeSweet folder
@wizboy11
in filter box write Convolution3d (preset="animeHQ").SeeSaw(NRlimit=3, NRlimit2=4, Sstr=1.5, Slimit=5, Spower=5, Sdamplo=6, Szp=16)
more simply is impossible
@dlflannery
on my side on selecting zune profile the width goes to 320... have you update the profiles too ?
@Shark_jlc
possibly both, use what ever online storage you want (10/20 mb is enough)

:( :( :(
i had tested more and more audio files, the problem isn't the normalize. And i don't know why soundout cause so delay in start encoding
i asked Sh0dan some help, if this problem got resolved ... well if not i will back to bepipe.

I had a 2.5 hour movie I was encoding in x264 using the ConstantQuality-CRF profile with a quantizer of 20. I encoded this movie into 640x272 and the filesize came out be a whopping 1.95G which surprised me since the XviD file of the same movie same resolution with a quantizer of 3 was 1.7G. So I tried encoding it with the same resolution, same encoder (H-264), same audio, same quantizer value with some other tools; here is the result.
HandBrake/MediaFork on the PC --- 1.34G
HandBrake/MediaFork on the Mac --- 1.31G
Visual-Hub on the Mac --- 1.27G
Why are the results so much larger with AutoMKV?

@weaver4
is the difference due to audio ?
or to different encoder ?
if you are perfectly sure of identical settings (bframes, cabac...) and the final movie is equal in all encoding (and quality wise) post a warning to x264 mailing list :)

Hmmm..... :confused: I just opened it again, switched to AVI container, set width to 640, then switched back to WMV container. As soon as I selected a Zune profile, the width went to 320... sorry, my mistake! :stupid:

I tried to keep the audio the same on all of them, but I could not control the Audio on VisualHub. I can't say about the Bframes and such such since you don't have control of those things in HandBrake and VisualHub. And with AutoMKV the only thing I did was select the profile and set the CRF value. The audio was AAC at .35 so it was low and not have much influence of filesize. Handbase and VisualHub both use x264 coder.
You have to admit that a Data Rate of 1675kbs for a CRF value of 20 is way out of line for a 640x272 movie. It should be somewhere around 900-1000kbps.
Quality on all of them look great.

you could anayse the mp4 resulting with avinaptic (search on forum), this tools could give all the parameter used by encoder !
and remember that b frames and deblocking could give a boost to reduce bitrate

Is there anyplace that talks about the various profiles? I am not sure I am using the optimum profile for X264.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Are you using AutoMKV 0.78... ???
IF not... did you batch your encode first... and then run the queue... ???
AutoMKV 0.76 could not remember 'modified' quantizer settings in batch mode.
Therefore your encode would run at the default quantizer setting of 18... regardless of your choice.
This being true... try a direct encode... or upgrade first...
:) :D :eek:

i can confirm delacroixp
in previus version, as fixed in 0.78, the queue job ignore the custom crf used
@weaver4
Is there anyplace that talks about the various profiles
since is based (even if had got a massive rework) on SharkTooth profile's i can suggest to read those thread
