View Full Version : AutoMKV 0.93a - (DVD/TS/AVI/AVS to X264/XviD/WVC1 into MKV/MP4/WMV) update 30/12/2007
@buzzqw:
Im trying out the PS3 profile now. It'll be a couple of hours before Im done. It's an hour and a half Anime DVD and Im ecoding at a pretty decent bitrate.
I let you know how it goes as soon as its finished.
Is there a way to cut out a specific time code or part of a VOB that I already have save to my HDD to use for testing?
That way I do not have to encode a complete movie for testing purposes.
Thanks!
Edit:
Almost forgot - can I cut out a part and rip the subtitles for that part too?

If you still have the IFO file associated with the vob you can use dvdshrink.
Just load the ifo and choose reauthor and then select the start and end frames.

Ahh, perfect!
And that will create new VOB's?

2 easy way
1) start dgindex, load one of your vob file, using [ and ] select your section, then use File-> Save Project and Demux Video.
2) use a splitter like http://www.64k.it/andres/data/j/jsfs.exe
i suggest the first way
about subs... if extracted as .sub/.idx. you must trim manual.. better to ocr it and trim later

FIXED: A lot Better image of Codec Logo and Container Logo
FIXED: Modified the pre-processing of WAV when encoding to WMA (suggestion payne_en_diaz)
FIXED: When checked Cartoon Mode in XviD is used both cartoon mode AND greyscale (thanks to sunflash10)
FIXED: Worked on Anamorphic (but is experimental and not supported by any means)
FIXED: Better (i hope) code to handle audio demux, 24kb less code. Should be less prone to "Audio not found" error
FIXED: Better support to FLV as input (but i suggest to use FFmpeg option to deal with)
FIXED: Ref 0 isn't allowed even in turbo pass. Now is Ref 1 (thanks to foxyshadis)
FIXED: More robust detection of Private Audio Stream
FIXED: Moved ColorMatrix as first filter. This move will correct any other issue pending with colormatrix
UPDATE: DgIndex to 1.4.9 stable, FFmpeg to 8891, ported code to PureBasic 4.02

Update 0.84!
FIXED: Worked on Anamorphic (but is experimental and not supported by any means)
Great stuff and a good start... getting it right is key.
Anamorphic encoding is the real basis of most movies, directly or indirectly... even modern movies utilize anamorphic parameters, for eg, 1440x1080 (16:9) which upscales to 1920x1080 DAR...

Which tool do you use to measure SSIM and PSNR... does it also include support for VOB Mpeg2 material... ???
I merely take the values that x264 dumps at the end of the encodes.
I did download MSU's tool, but haven't yet gotten around to use it. Time's the problem, as always. (it's why we're all spending small fortunes on ever-faster CPUs ???? ;-)
Do you know how I can access the SSIM and PSNR figures from H264 encodes... ???
:thanks:

Finally got around to finishing my encode for the PS3 and it came out beautiful!!!
I must thank you buzzqw as this wonderful proggie of yours has solved pretty much all of my encoding needs.
Now I just need to learn how to use the filters. Speaking of which - Is there a way to use Limitedsharpen and Lancosresize together, or is that not needed?
Once again thanks, and I need to download your latest update too.

If you're resizing, Limitedsharpen uses Lanczosresize internally, so you can have limitedsharpen resize the video (dest_x,dest_y) for you instead of you having to manually invoke lanczosresize.

Gotcha, thanks.
I know some programs offer that you can use both. But this seems better to me.

this is a very good point!
anyway is possible to use both.. lanczos as resizer and limitedsharpenfaster as filter (just write it on filters list...)

IIRC there are only subtle differences.
I found out about it from this old thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=87514
Took me forever to find a copy of it. And I never found a copy of the modified asharp.dll if one even exists. (or if only the awarpsharp does).

one only answer: DGINDEX
seems that latest dgdecode.dll has some problems on some pc... on dgindex 1.4.9 thread several users complain
please download this http://www.64k.it/andres/data/d/dgmpgdec148.zip
put dgindex.exe and dgdecode.dll in \exe\dgindexAND dgdecode.dll in \exe\filter

I'm trying to use this tool to backup my DVDs to AVI and keep getting an audio synch issue...Not sure the problem..
I've tried several settings from 1/3 DVD to 2GB target size...
Same issue. I've included a log file.
Any suggestions since I prefer to backup via AVI vs. ISO.

@Buzzqw
thanks for the prompt answer, I copied the dgindex folder form .83 and put the dgdecode.dll in /filters, and indeed it fixed the problem.
on a whim i decided to try the VC 6 build of DGMPGDec 1.4.9 (http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec149vc6.zip)
and it works too...
However when disabling delaycut automkv pops up a "audio was not encoded properly" error, no matter which build of dgindex. 0.83a did not have that issue.

The x264 command prompt does not show anything with 0.84a, when previously (0.84 and below) it showed stuff like fps and time remaining. x264 also hangs after a few minutes (I can not see the movie.mp4 file increasing in size).
I tried running just the 0.83a executable with the 0.84 package w/ dgindex 1.4.9 VC6 and it runs fine. so does 0.84 if delaycut is enabled.
also, the all profiles checkbox on the basic settings tab does not stay checked when settings are saved.

I've noticed that when I encode with AutoMKV, both MediaInfo & Gspot cannot read the audio - video bitrate of the file.
MediaInfo only shows overall (video+audio) bitrate in "text" mode.
Where can that be attributed to? Is it the mkv container that is not well supported, or somehow AutoMkv does not "register" that information in the file?
This is not of course a serious matter...

well i use the official mkvmerge... so could be a issue of those programs
i suggest to use Avinpatic http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=123076 a true excellent program for analyzing mkv, avi or mp4 files... with support to x264 also!

I did my first try with this proggy. Great job by the way. I feel Auto GK lacks in the type of files it supports so this is good. I have a problem. I am trying to convert a movie from MP4 to AVI(xvid) two pass, it quits stuffs up right when running this file muxing.bat. It says AVImux_Gui experienced a problem and will close. Please help.

sometimes seems avimux_gui is a little picky...
often is due to antivirus... or other running programs..
i suggest this secure procedure: load your file, set your options AND before click start encoding go to Advanced settings and check "Use FFmpeg Mux"
then start your encode :)

automkv don't use vfw codec

I hope in a future release to allow using virtualdubmod instead of avimux at least when creating avi (xvid) files.
Here is described one problem with the standalone: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1005791#post1005791
Avimux is not good for SAP. The xvid sap profile is useless if using avimux.

Great program buzzqw, really. Thanks.
But I have 2 little issues/questions:
1. It seems to me (I'm a novice to this) that DGIndex is detecting wrong framerates. For example I have a DVD here which is PAL and DGIndex is detecting a framerate of 25.000 and thus Automkv uses 25fps. BUT the resulting encode isn't "fluent", meaning pan shots are choppy. And if I play the DVD in WMP 11 and choose "statistics" the player says: "Frame rate: 25fps" and "Actual frame rate: 24,4fps". When using MPC to play it, the VideoMixing Renderer says something about an avarage framerate of ~24,4 in the beginning and is increasing _slowly_ to 24,93 after 4 minutes, 24,97 after 8 minutes and then I aborted this. I have no idea what's the meaning of this, but maybe you do.
2. I'm a little bit confused about the deinterlacing. Is there any particular deinterlacingalgorithm you would recommend? And what would be the wisest choice to choose if the deint Test detects that ~half the frames are progressive and ~half are deinterlaced and ~half of them are BFF and the other half TFF?

dgindex detects the framerate written in mpeg file.. so blame the encoder... or better.. who have done that messy...

ouch.. post a fragment in avisynth usage forum... and search for help!
probably a hybrid approach is the way.. but .. post your sample :)

What kind of movie is it?
I've gotten that sometimes. Most of the time you just need to use the Decimating filter and see if that works. From experience, AutoMKV doesn't detect this very well (sorry buzzqw).
Anime uses this, and so do some movies that were upconverted from 24fps progressive (or 23.97fps) to 29.97fps interlaced. (3:2)
Open up the original video in MPC or something were you can step frames (and that hasn't gone through any deinterlacing). Step a few frames. If some are progressive (has no interlacing lines) and some are interlaced (you'll see it) then you need decimating, which I believe is called 3:2 pulldown.

Sorry for being a newbie here, just literally installed the great software and was checking out the Wiki page. At the very bottom of the MT section, there is an update that makes it sound like there is no need for the script to be used anymore to get Dual Core speeds, is this correct ? I have downloaded version 0.84, does this mean I no longer need to update the software to make use of the extra speed with my E6400 Dual core with 2gb ram ? Thanks.

no, i never included MT avisynth build.
I can only suggest to check your CPUs usage, if over 80% (for all cpus) then MT isn't needed... if not.. use the MT approach

I am trying to convert mkv and avi (Xvid) files to WMV. That works fine, but I can't get 5.1 audio. I press the exclamation marks, then choose audio codec: WMAPRO and Channels: 6, but the output audio is always WMA2 and 2-channel. BTW, I press WVC1_1_Pass_CBR profile first, then edit the audio.
How do I sort this out?
And the video filters, do you reccomend using it? The source is HD x264 files, and I don't think they need touching up, so left it as NONE. Will I see any benefit using it, and how much longer will it take to encode say using "RemoveGrain(mode=2)"

I am having an issue with Automkv where every file i try to convert to Avi(xvid), what it does is it converts the audio just fine but when it goes to convert video it just skips that part and goes staight to muxing. when it uses avi synth it just crashes, and when i tell it to use ffmpeg mux it just spits out file a little bigger then sorce audio file that won't play. All the sorces files i have used converted just fine in MkvMagic but i wanna use something that will allow them to batch encode.

filters isn't always needed. If your sorce is clean and don't need more compression ... don't apply it. The cpu used by removegrain is small... not more than 5%

When I start encoding, and then for some reason turn off this process (for example I’ve forgot to do smth), then, if even I restart program, and start encoding it will convert audio but DOS windows with 1 and 2 pass video encoding will open for 1 sec and the close. To solve this problem I have to restart PC. Here is LOG http://vorob2.nm.ru/VTS_02_0.IFO.log

maybe the file isn't deleted when the new encoding start, because are locked by OS...
try empting the \temp folder manually before start a new encoding
i don't think is a issue of automkv... since after rebooting all is ok...

did that and its still skiping video encode as you can see from this log it finishs the audio then where its supposted to do video and where it tries to mux and all that stuff shows the same time in the log because it just went from audio to muxing with out any kind of video encode poping up.

Thanks.
The update thing I just put there because I changed around with the script a little bit. Instead of putting SetMTMode(2) and then closing it at the bottom with SetMTMode(0), and wrap the individual filters with MT().
Instead I decided to try just putting SetMTMode(2, 0) in the beginning and not closing it out. That way, everything below the SetMTMode gets multi-threaded, even if you use filters through AutoMKV (which previously didn't work).
If your finding it confusing then just skip MT all together. It's unstable and can crash (often, but I'm trying around with different scripts, older ones, newer ones, they all seem to crash eventually, I just pick the one that crashes the least).
There's a funny story to this too. I was encoding a hour long movie with a pretty complicated avisynth script. Took an hour for the first pass, and was ~95% done with the second pass (which had been running for a few hours), then it crashed on me :p.
The speed improvment really isn't that great. At most your shaving off a few minutes on simple scripts, maybe a little more on more complicated ones.
