@icrf

First of all Welcome to the Forum!

autocrop is "triggered" if you select the width in main panel AND don't use the manual crop/resize in advanced settings
you can also look at movie.avs ans search for a "autocrop"...
you can read more on AutoMKV Wiki :)

I was pretty sure I had "AutoCrop Only" selected, but I was pretty sure I had AAC/Original channels selected, too, but apparently not, according to my output. This is only the ninth or tenth time I've encoded this movie in the last three days (few times with HandBrake, too), so I'm apparently not all that good at remembering to do all the steps that should stay the same while changing the ones I want to mess with. :rolleyes:

According to my join date, I've been lurking for nearly two years. Finally got around to that first post thing. ;)

Is this an open source app, or something you've made yourself and released? If source is available, and it's another .NET app, I'd like to take a look. I've managed to crash it a couple times and wouldn't mind looking into it (I think it's queue related). If all your variables are in Italian, that'd make it extra challenging. :)

@icrf

from log file is possibile to see near all settings used.. next time post it ;)

AutoMKV is a free application, actually near open source.. it's near because source code is quite a messy.. and not all in italian, not commented, and posted when requested

the programming language is Purebasic www.purebasic.com , so not .NET involved at all

if you want the source code , just drop a line

My day job is writing VB.NET code, so I'm very familiar with Visual Studio, and C# isn't far off, either. If I ever look at Purebasic (it does look kind of interresting), I'll come back and ask.

I thought I looked at the log before, and saw cropping in there, but it came after the video was encoded, which confused the hell out of me. Anyway, if I see it again I'll take more note of things. For now, I'm writing if off as pilot error.

That's the kind of thing I remember seeing in the log. Is that normal? All the video encoding time obviously happens after that first line, if nothing else, due to timestamps, but the AutoCrop log is after? Cropping would have to come before encoding.

@modifiedbears

your log is ok. don't be afraid of
Encoded 1' Audio Track: -343607228 bytes

the audio was extracted... is just a problem of log

just a doubt, since wmcmd.vbs use the directshowaudio approach to audio, BE SURE that your AUDIO DECODER (ac3filter, ffdshow) is set to output 5.1 and not to downmix to stereo (when encoding)

Hmh. Been a week away .. Which reminds me, maybe start a new thread at post 4096? ;-)

Just my bit on the IFO/Queue support thing - I do not care about IFO, but if you nuke queue it will make episodic DVDs and TV-rips gargantuan PITA. I do not have a problem how AutoMKV does queues at the moment, maybe you have to baby-sit it a bit here and there but mostly it works OK.

Without queue, I have to baby-sit my computer all day to check if the encoding is done already so to start a new one. Yuck. Yuck.

As a case in point, south park DVD.. It's ONLY available as NTSC DVD and you have to do some hard-core processing to get the closed captions converted to proper subs but there are 10-14 episodes per season of about 20-25 min /each..

So puh-leeze keep the queue support in!!11!!

@modifiedbears

open movie.avs in virtualdub
do you have any error ?

@Barleyman

the queue has been always a pita. As automkv is coded the queue must save a lot of parameters (and btw in automen have learned the lesson).. and sometime those parameters conflict each other :mad:

actually queue "is working". don't know how well, i don't use it, but from my little tests is working.

about 4096.. after 2 year the title of topic cannot be changed.. so there is enough time .. again ;)

On Friday night I decided to encode and burn a DVD simultaneously... during verification, AutoMKV crashed !!!
Since then it refuses to close normally... I have to nuke-it with the Task Manager...
It will close normally if I haven't done any work with it...

In this log AutoMKV wouldn't encode though it did finish the de-interlace procedure and apparently, also finished the job...
I rebooted, started over... all good (I may have forgotten to set the filter)...
Perhaps, it's an idea to have long, medium and short-term saving options... it's often a problem to remember each setting,
especially if automkv.ini has been deleted...

I did notice that a profile saved in Advanced Settings wont save your choice for "Show Enc. Stats".
If you load up a profile you have to remember to de-activate 'Encoding Stats'.

I finished encoding The Commitments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Commitments_(film)) this afternoon.
I included a direct copy of the 6ch-surround-AC3 and also an m4a-stereo encode of the same track...
Zoom Player reports a "Pointer Conflict" error when I change audio tracks...
If I manually encode a 6ch-surround-m4a and mux with MKVmerge... there's no problem.

AC3, MKV and MP4 are not entirely bosom buddies...

buzzqw: For the last couple of years XviD has been very stagnant but the people at DivX have been working hard. In my opinion the DivX codec has better picture quality now than XviD and it encodes much faster than XviD.

But DivX's tools are awful, they crash, they die, they don't do interlace right, etc.

You can encode DivX from the command line (now) so you don't need to use the windows interface.

Any chance you could support DivX in AutoMKV? It would make many of us DivX fans very happy.

buzzqw
25th November 2007, 22:17
support for divx through command line is quite limited... SINCE AutoMKV has already full support of divx :)

(the changelog.. the changelog!!!)

lauch automkv, click CTRL+F9

now in codec you will see VFW 1 pass (for 1 pass encoding or ) VFW 2 pass (for 2 pass encoding)

select your codec, and your settings then click start!

Unfortunately I've deleted everything but I did discover that if I untick "Allow AVS check" ... AutoMKV closes normally after an encode.
I'm eager to test whether It's possible to do 2 consecutive encodes without incident !!!

The Ascent of Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ascent_of_Man) by Jacob Bronowski (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mIfatdNqBA) is a little wierd in that each episode has it's own IFO...
I only discovered this after encoding the same episode 4 times... no matter which ifo I select, AutoMKV always reverts to the same one (so too for each disc).

I manually ripped each episode... and AutoMKV happily encodes the subtitles too... (I didn't rename each VOB/IFO as previously).

AutoMKV always reverts to the same one (so too for each disc).

the "process this ifo" option is due to this case..

as FLV1 already made it into AutoMen what about FLV4 (http://sh0dan.blogspot.com/2006/09/command-line-flash-8-flv-encoding.html) in AutoMKV :)

yeah, it is a VFW codec, I know...

i was referring to generic vfw support

automkv using avs2avi is able to encode with vfw codec

ahh cool, so you mean it could be possible to implement On2's VP6.2 VFW codec / FLV4 support ?... that would rock :)

at least for those who have On2 VP6.2 VFW codec installed ;)

about allow avs check.. is UNticked by default

At some point I unticked "Allow AVS check" and everytime I load up a personal .ini profile... it stays ticked...
Also, it would be nice if the profile could remember Hide Subs, Title and Force Mux W*H for MKV encodes...

If I'm encoding a series, the DAR generally remains the same and I would prefer to Hide Subs for every encode...

I tried forcing Interlaced, tff AND HQ Deint but doesn't work. no deinterlace and video lag.
The problem is on David Gilmour's Remberer That Night (http://www.davidgilmour.com/dvd.htm) dvd #2.
Interesting case... I take it, it's not a Blue-Ray or HD-DVD release !!!

@ jellyfish2002
If you choose [CODE] wrap instead of [QUOTE] wrap ... your post will be very much shorter...

Keep it pretty... make pretty posts... lol !!!

UPDATE 0.92a http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV092a.exe
FIXED: Wrong reported size of demuxed wav audio file
FIXED: Hardcoded subtitle wasn't working (thansk to jellyfish2002)
ADDED: "Allow AVS check" to Save Configuration in Advanced Setting (suggestion by delacroix)
ADDED: "Allow x264 Stats" to Save Configuration in Advanced Setting (suggestion by delacroix)
ADDED: "Hide Subtitle" to Save Configuration in Advanced Setting (suggestion by delacroix)

@red5goahead

no deinterlace and video lag.
so the video has been deinterlaced correctly BUT audio isn't in syncro ?

bad syncro is often due to bad rip
try using ripit4me/fixvts

@jellyfish2002

try with 0.92a :)

It actually encodes now, but I don't have any audio. For the FFDShow Audio Setting in the CCCP settings I've tried "Same as input" and "3/2+LFE 5.1 channels". Here's a log.

Hi Buzzqw,

I've been using AutoMKV for awhile now. On version .90 I created a custom profile for converting videos for my Cowon D2. The profile is for AVI/XVID and was directly copied from the constant quality profile. On the old version when I selected my profile, the dialog to select the quantizer popped up. Now I'm using version .92a and the dialog no longer pops up. I've only changed a few of the parameters (NbBframes = 0, NbThreads = 3 and FrameDropRatio = -1). Any ideas why the dialog no longer pops up? Is there some setting in another file I'm forgetting to change?

I have the old version and new version in separate directories.

Thanks,
Garth

Hey Buzzqw,

A request: Can you change the folder for "--chapters "Q:\Programme\AutoMKV\exe\chapters.txt" to the one where all the other temp files are located, e.g. "--language -1:eng "Q:\dvd\t11\temp\" ?

I have the issue that sometimes the sound is mixed up and I want to change which track comes first. I just now noticed that all my chapters are now corrupt though, as I was running through a "queue" and so the chapters.txt file is useless ;)

Thanks, and really great work :)

@modifiedbears

use the last version 0.92a

@gasnyder

you are correct, in recent updates the value of CQ is now saved in profile. If you open the profile for your cowon d2 (what is it ? :confused: ) you will see this value
xcrfcrfquantitizer =
this is the value of CQ saved in this profile
i can suggest to duplicate this profile (cowon_d2_cq3.ini for example) and change the xcrfcrfquantitizer to value you want

@MichaelAnders

yea.. chapter must be moved to temp folder...

added in todo list!

Thanks, and really great work

:thanks:!

Buzzq,

Thanks for the reply. I think I might have confused you. I'm not using an .ini file for my profile. I copied Constant_Quality.xml to CowonD2.xml and click on the Showall Profiles to enable my new profile. In the older version when I choose my CowonD2 profile it brought up the quantizer dialog. Now it doesn't do that. I think it might be related to the change to add the "CQ Tune" button. Perhaps that behavior only triggers when the .xml chosen is "Constant_Quality.xml"? I can try using the .ini configuration files for now. I usually encode movies twice, once for the D2 and once in DVD resolution so I go back and forth pretty regularly.

The Cowon D2 is a 320x240 display PMP. It comes with software to convert videos for it, but I prefer using AutoMKV to tune quality and aspect ratios etc. The file format is a bit picky on the player so I had to create a profile to change a few settings.
You can do a web search for Cowon D2 for more info if you are interested.

Thanks for the great program!

Garth

@gasnyder

now i have understud!

the quantizer dialog is invoked only if profile is named Constant_Quality.xml

i will try to add a better way to check constant quality profile (regardless of name)

thanks

use the last version 0.92a

I updated and still no audio. What should I have CCCP set to for 5.1?

buzzqw

the audio decoding (ffdshow audio settings) must output 5.1, and no downmix or appling Volume filter

Any way to encode a Zune 80 compatible X264 or WMV using AutoMKV? The Zune software keeps trying to reencode the video when I sync it. From reading the specifications, my guess is that I need to encode in baseline profile for X264 or main profile for WMV. I tried the 2 Pass Balanced profile and 320x240 resolution (same as the Zune's screen) for each, but I suppose that was not right for the Zune. Here are the specs:

VIDEO SUPPORT

Windows Media Video (WMV) (.wmv) – Main and Simple Profile, CBR or VBR, up to 3.0 Mbps peak video bit rate; 720 pixels x 480 pixels up to 30 frames per second (or 720 pixels x 576 pixels up to 25 frames per second). Zune software will transcode HD WMV files at device sync

MPEG-4 (MP4/M4V) (.mp4) Part 2 video – Simple Profile up to 2.5 Mbps peak video bit rate; 720 pixels x 480 pixels up to 30 frames per second (or 720 pixels x 576 pixels up to 25 frames per second). Zune software will transcode HD MPEG-4 files at device sync

H.264 video – Baseline Profile up to 2.5 Mbps peak video bit rate; 720 pixels x 480 pixels up to 30 frames per second (or 720 pixels x 576 pixels up to 25 frames per second). Zune software will transcode HD H.264 files at device sync

Sorry if this has been posted already.

Edit: I do know of the profiles for the original Zune, but since the Zune 80 allows for much higher quality video I would like to maximize the quality.

Edit2: I tried the Zune 2 Pass WMV9 profile and it just stops once it gets to the encoding phase, after transcoding the audio to WAV. Here's the log:

I also tried specifying the bitrate at 768kbps or setting the output size to no avail.

Use iPod profile

Thanks, that worked. I tried your program, as well, which also worked with the iPod profile.

the audio decoding (ffdshow audio settings) must output 5.1, and no downmix or appling Volume filter

BHH

I haven't changed anything in the settings other than the 5.1 for the audio decoding. I don't know what else I need to change or where to do it.

Hi I'm converting a HD source into Xvid and it seems my Xvid crashes every time i encode.
Now according to mkvextract my audio source is a regular dts file which isnt a problem but the video is "MPEG4/ISO/AVC" is AutoMKV capable of doing this type of video into Xvid.
This may sound like a stupid question but please bear with me :)
Thank you

Hi everyone, I have used automkv a little before and had a good deal of success but I am trying to encode a DVD to WVC1_2_pass_best.xml the error I’m getting is this..

“Title: VIDEO_TS
Year: 2007
Copyright: Done with AutoMKV! 0.92

Warning: Encoder failed to retrieve duration attribute from source plug-in.
Trying alternate method now................................”

Has anyone see this error before? I have done the same movie with XviD and it completes but I have audio sink issues.

Use iPod profile

I'm confused, when you use the iPod profile the Zune software needs to transcode it to wmv before it syncs it to the unit; right? According to the specification above "Zune software will transcode HD H.264 files at device sync" it will not download H264 directly.

I have a Zune 30 and after the latest firmware upgrade the single pass Zune profile no longer works for me. It will download the file made by AutoMKV but when it plays it will not play without long, long pauses while it is playing.

Espio: See this statement in your log file?

WMV CMD: cscript.exe "C:\Documents and Settings\Teapo\My Documents\Video & Audio Utilities\AutoMKV 0.92a\exe\encoder\WMCmd.vbs" -input "E:\zTemp\temp\movie.avs" -output "E:\zTemp\temp\movie.wmv" -v_codec WMV9 -v_mode 4 -v_bitrate 212202976 -s_config "E:\zTemp\temp\wmv_crb" -v_preset fast -v_buffer 10000 -v_performance 40 -a_input "E:\zTemp\temp\audio.wav" -a_codec WMASTD -a_mode 1 -title "18 - Blank Headed Eagle" -log wmv.log -year 2007 -copyright "Done with AutoMKV! 0.92a" -a_setting 96_44_2

This line is the line with problem in it because if gives the length of -1 when it is done.

I have had a problem before with AutoMKV handling periods correctly in command lines. You might want to try changing your path from AutoMKV 0.92a to AutoMKV 0-92a and see if that helps.
