@wizboy11
It's in a vob file and under the subtitle selections it's saying "subpicture stream 1 packets".
so.. in subtitle selection isn't displayed the language ?
but.. is an ifo the input file ? (no subripping from vob input)
I've attempted to use SubRip to extract it and then load it manually as an srt but that failed (or I didn't do it right).
you should have got a message of subtitle loaded... is that correct ?
the external subtitle loading is cumulative.. if you click 3 time on it you will load 3 different subtitles
BUT if you click on it and DON'T load anything it will delete previus loaded subs

Cscript.exe and WMP11 still crash with that section removed.
I'm guessing my next step is to investigate the 3 remaining Plugin dll's ?
DGDecode.dll

Not sure if it's the same problem but if I try to encode an avisynth .avs (DirectshowSource=file.mkv) using wmcmd.vbs in Vista it crashes. Works fine on another PC using XP. Same basic problem? If I use AviSource on another file (avi) it works...

Compare that AVS file to what I've posted, and see if you can narrow it down in the same manner I have.
That would help!

That would help!
My AVS contains only one line, DirectshowSource("file.mkv"), nothing else. It's a 720p H264/AC3 file...
If I had to guess I'd say it has something to do with how DirectshowSource works in Vista, looks like it outputs something WMCmd.vbs doesn't like? Colorspace?
As I said, it works fine using AVISource or just encoding "version.avs"... playing the .avs in WMP11 works fine too I think (can't check now).
Not sure how I can narrow it down more? Let me know if I can do anything to help.

when encoding from a dvd rip using x264, do you guys recommend compressing the ac3 to vorbis? what quality setting should i use to mimimise quality loss? from my research it still should have the 5.1 sound?

@ajp AND Shark_jlc
when working with mkv/avi/...
better to set ffdshow to output yv12 frames, like here
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/4071/ffdshowbs6.png
@Daedalus01
yes, vorbis support 5.1 channel.. but i suggest to use Nero Audio or CCT encoder
I like vorbis but for multichannel isn't so optimized...

@buzzqw:
My ffdshow is setup just like that, I think it's the default?
Edit: Come to think of it, it crashes even if I use -videoonly or -audioonly in the command for wmcmd.vbs... at least I'm pretty sure it does. I've been doing so much testing the last few days my head is spinning... :-P

I don't recall that message. I just keep getting "Bad packet header at LBA:xx
I made the vob myself and I have the original DVD right here (somewhere in this mess of a room) so I'll just go back to that with the ifo.
Never mind I guess.

OK - I cut movie.avs down to this:
LoadPlugin("C:\temp\DGDecode.dll")
movie = mpeg2source("C:\temp\temp\movie.d2v",info=3)
audio = DirectShowSource("C:\temp\temp\audio.wav")
function getOrder(clip c) {
order = GetParity(c) ? 1 : 0
Return order }
last = movie
audiodub(audio,last)
And it still crashes WMP11 and CScript.exe, but works in VirtualDubMod.
I guess I'll try different versions of DGDecode.dll?

Install ffdshow, use the link on first post. Seriusly
@Daedalus01
CCT is a very good audio encoder, for someone better the Nero (more warm sound)
Try starting with bitrate of 64kb (fo multichannel) , then go up or down ... as your preference

Hi everyone, I could use a little help here.
Been experimenting with AutoMKV for x264 encoding... I have a few seasons of "Friends" to encode (PAL DVDS), and I'm having trouble with the deinterlacing...
I get something like this, in quite a few scenes:
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6351/friendsdeinterlacngbd5.jpg
I set Deinterlacer to "interlaced", checked HQ Deint and Field Order to TFF, information I got from DGIndex...
Am I doing something wrong?
Should I leave it interlaced and leave it to fddshow to do it when palying the file? Is that even possible with x264?
Thanks in advance.

Don't forget to crop that black off of the side. :)
(4, maybe 8 on the left, and 4 on the top)
It may just be that is the result of deinterlacing it. Or it could be you may have performed the wrong form of deinterlacing.
Open the vob file up in MPC, make sure you can see the interlacing artifacts. Then step through it frame by frame.
They're PAL DVDs so it may be a slightly different order from the ones over here, but you might see a combination of 3 progressive frames and then 2 interlaced (should be different for 25fps PAL).
In this case IVTC is the way to go. So then select Decimate as your deinterlacer options.
However, if every frame is interlaced, then that's just the result of two different fields. Not much you can do I think (besides try a different deinterlacer or something, but AutoMKV pretty much uses the best, IMO).

I have now updated Avisynth and Xvid to the latest version, ffdshow was already up-to-date.

wizboy11, it's not a IVTC matter as they are PAL dvd's... Every frame is interlaced ...

open movie.avs in virtualdub and look at errors
also post the movie.avs
@Shark_jlc
ffdshow, or any other directshow filter is used for audio or video when nicac3source or avisource fail on input file
for wmv the audio is pre-decoded to wav then in movie.avs the wav decoded is used as.. audio source
the main problem is that audio wav can goes far over 2gb file, in that case wav header isn't more readable.. so automkv will create a special wav file that can be of any size (wave_extended)
BUT wave_extended isn't support natively by windows (xp and vista) and so is needed an audio decoder (ffdshow) that is able, via directshowsource, to decode those wav file

I'd like to create a wmv (or asf) file with wmv video and ac3 audio. While MS muxer does not allow for it, supposedly I can do it with third party muxer. So I'd like to encode DVD as follows: video to wmv, and no audio. Than I would take encoded wmv and mux it (manually, outside automkv) with ac3 audio. I've seem to recall that there were issues with wmv processing if no audio was specified - that's why I'm asking.
Note, this is a bit theoretical question so please do not advise to use mkv container.

OH, Wait... Opening the AVS with VDubMod, I get the exact same result I showed in that picture... =/
EDIT: As I figured, I get the same result checking "Allow AVS check"... The problem must be in the avs, since when I open it in VDM it's is already terribly deinterlaced...

the movie works fine if i use "use ffdshow" buuut all the movies freeze after the half of the size.
i can only view 50 or 70minutes of the movie (and its very nice, audio and video looks and sounds very pretty) but then damned it freeeze...
and the file size of the full movie is only 2.2 gb instead of 4.3.
i've tryed 4movies in mkv and all have the same shit (half size and only the 1/2 of the movie works)
ia it possible to load the h264 file? instead of the mkv? and the audio seperatly ? not as one file in the mkv container?

ffdshow, or any other directshow filter is used for audio or video when nicac3source or avisource fail on input file
for wmv the audio is pre-decoded to wav then in movie.avs the wav decoded is used as.. audio source
the main problem is that audio wav can goes far over 2gb file, in that case wav header isn't more readable.. so automkv will create a special wav file that can be of any size (wave_extended)
BUT wave_extended isn't support natively by windows (xp and vista) and so is needed an audio decoder (ffdshow) that is able, via directshowsource, to decode those wav file

I installed FFDshow with all default settings.
Rebooted.
I un-tar'd a clean copy of AutoMKV.
I had AutoMKV do it's thing, and I still crash cscript.exe. :confused:

@jefrey
and the file size of the full movie is only 2.2 gb instead of 4.3.
analyze your mkv/mp4 with avinaptic and look ad average drf
(i can suppose you have saturated..)
i can only view 50 or 70minutes of the movie
on you computer can you see all movie ?
ia it possible to load the h264 file? instead of the mkv? and the audio seperatly ? not as one file in the mkv container?
in temp folder there is a movie.mp4 and audio.xxx, those files are the base file before muxing
@Shark_jlc
and I still crash cscript.exe
if even the simpliest script crash.. i haven't more idea
you could ask to Zambelli for some tips for debugging

Update: I can play my .avs-file in Vista using Media Player Classic but Windows Media Player (11) crashes just like when trying to encode .avs using Cscript.

I think I found a workaround in this thread...
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=121674
Using AviSynth 2.56a does indeed seem to help, at least I can play the .avs in WMP11 now. Don't ask me why!? :confused:
Encoding with "Cscript wmcmd.vbs" doesn't seem to work though, just sits there and nothing happens. Might be something else...

Last night I experimented a LOT of deinterlacing filter, and none of them worked correctly, I guess there is nothing I can do...
I also tried the original DVDS on my dvd player and the result was also not-so-pleasant (stupid cheapo dvd upscaler player =/ )
My question now is, is it possible to encode interlaced with x264? I remember some time ago it wasn't possible, is it still the case?
Thank you for your time :)

When I use ConvertToRGB32() as the last statement in my AVS the performance goes up again....
in automkv go in advanced settings and in last line avs script and write ConvertToRGB32()

I haven't tried AutoMKV, just the plain CScript wmcmd.vbs. I tried insering ConvertToRGB32() in my script though (with avs 2.56a) but it's the same... just sits there and doesn't start the encoding. I'll have a go with AutoMKV as well but I suspect it's the same since the problem appears to be cscript wmcmd.vbs and avisynth in Vista...
Update: The encoding DID start after quite a looong time after all (with avs 2.56), no need for ConvertToRGB32().
Update2: Same thing with AutoMKV, after installing Avs 2.56a the encoding takes a looong time to start....but it works!

I'm new to AutoMKV and just gave it a test file with a 28min MPEG2 file after installing all the recommended files/codecs on the first page. I've got two questions:
1. I got this error in the log when encoding: "10:27:59 BREAK ! FILE NOT SUPPORTED ! LAST TRY WITH FFMPEG!
10:27:59 Switched to FFmpeg for Video Encoding!" What does it mean?
2. When trying to preview a crop, I get "12:20:26 !!!!ERROR!!!! - LoadPlugin: unable to load "C:\Program Files\AutoMKV 0.87\exe\filter\warpsharp.dll"
(C:\Program Files\AutoMKV 0.87\preview.avs, line 40)"
Any ideas?

open the movie.avs (in \temp directory) in virtualdub
got errors?
for warpsharp read this http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=124585

Everything installed. To be fair, the movie has come out fine, but still have issues.
warpsharp fixed, but now get "13:53:16 !!!!ERROR!!!! - DirectShowSource: RenderFile, the filter graph manager won't talk to me (C:\Program Files\AutoMKV 0.87\preview.avs, line 41)"
File loads and plays fine in virtualdub, but should virtualdub be installed somewhere that AutoMKV needs?

@rendez2k
you need an mpeg2 decoder for preview OR do this
with dgindex do the d2v file of this mpeg
load this d2v as input for automkv, and when asked for audio load the demuxed audio
then the preview should be no more problem

Thanks BHH! Whats the deal with VirtualDub though?
buzzqw

virtualdub isn't used by automkv (avi is muxed by virtuadubMOD)
i suggest to keep it somewhere just for error checking
and because virtualdub is ... virtualdub! :)

Hmmm, whats the issue then or is it just due to the source file and its nothing to worry about?
buzzqw
26th July 2007, 15:37
isn't to worry since automkv don't use directshow source for mpeg2 files
but as i said the preview need a decoder (or automkv will need first run dgindex...)

when encoding dvds do i need the de-interlace filter? normally i dont apply any filters (the default no_grain filter IMO loses detail)
