@payne_en_diaz

please REDOWNLOAD the http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV083b.exe

this will fix the file size... and i hope audio problems !

BHH
I think you've done it!!
I haven't completed the whole encode, but I stopped it early.
The wav file in the temp folder can now be played with MPC and Virtual dub.
But more importantly the WMV file now has audio.:thanks:
I will finish the whole encode and post back but I think it will be fine. Thanks again.

Nah, lets leave it the way it is and change the label to "Olde Timey Cartoon". :D
I was just wondering what your graphic design skills are like and whether you draw your own cartoons... ???
Perhaps we could create an AutoMKV logo... somehow incorporating Auto into

http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/AutoMKV/Logos/Matroska_logo.png . . . and . . . http://souls-online.net/delacroixp/AutoMKV/Logos/x264_fire.gif

without the logo looking too cluttered...

Perhaps we could create an AutoMKV logo...

I'm rusty right now, and not looking for a new project that badly. Plus. I think it is buzzqw's place to design the icon, unless he wants to solicit submissions/hold a contest or something.

You're quite right... though I'm quite keen to include an AutoMKV logo on my DVD backups... which is perhaps, a more sophisticated, subtle and classy means to get PayPal contributions and sponsorship... everything helps.

Have you an automkv.ini in automkv folder ? if yes delete it and restart automkv
after that you can resave your settings :)

First time user in avi mode (xvid) and choosing SAP.
I made a small test and regarding SAP compatibility I don't understand few things regarding output:
- why is AVI V1.0 and not V2.0?
- SAP doesn't like interleave greater than 1 vid frame
Can you make in SAP mode the output to be AVI V2.0 and interleave to be always 1 vid frame? Also I think this settings to be in all avi modes, not only in SAP. I don't know for what is good AVI V1.0 or interleave greater than 1 vid frame.
In many encodes I see Interleave: 1 vid frame (42ms), preload 480. And with this values I have never problems on standalone players.

enjoy,
Mtz

@Mtz

about avi1, avi2

from changelog of 0.78

ADDED: In XviD profiles added a new option <muxing> (if used only for avi container). This option can be valorized as: <muxing>auto</muxing> or <muxing>avi10</muxing> or <muxing>opendml</muxing>. On auto will be AutoMKV to select the better muxing, on avi10 will be forced the AVI 1.0 mux, on opendml will be forced OpenDML muxing

so i suggest to edit the xml profiles

about - SAP doesn't like interleave greater than 1 vid frame
i hanven't sap (but htpc) so... i don't know
avimux_gui suggest to use 3 frames and 200 as preload  ... i don't know...

subtitle inside mkv/ogm.. aren't supported.

you must extract these with mkvextract (search on forum) the load it with "load subtitle" button

I encoded Blade Trinity last night and I had a few issues...

1) The 'Rip all audio tracks' dissapeared... so I ripped 2 + 2 + 1 and muxed them manually... what happened... ???
It's got 3 Main tracks... AC3 stereo, AC3 5.1 surround and DTS 6.1 surround... I've been 'keep original' audio tracks but I'ld prefer to convert to MP4a...
How do you manually convert to MP4 surround and how can I convert DTS 6.1 surround to MP4 6.1 surround... ??

2) I made an image of Blade... but when I encode, it rips the entire movie again (from the image) and then also does a direct copy of the movie aswell... eventually I've got 3 versions of the movie on the HDD which can get a bit scary when HDD space gets a bit low...
However, even the time factor is irksome... what do you suggest... ?

after 250 post you don't know how to post a problem ?

"All audio tracks" is present and fuctional

How do you manually convert to MP4 surround and how can I convert DTS 6.1 surround to MP4 6.1 surround... ??

you can use automkv. as input file load (one at time) these ac3/dts and configure audio as you want, then click start

using belight/behappy could be even a better solution

I made an image of Blade... but when I encode, it rips the entire movie again (from the image)
since you have already ripped it there is no need to use "check drive"... simply mount the image and with automkv point at the ifo inside the image

and then also does a direct copy of the movie aswel

you could have used the "Use this pgc", this fuction will create a copy of the pgc selected. This fuction isn't to use if you have only ONE movie

BHH

P.S. @SeeMoreDigital: in next update will return the possibility to use CCT AAC as multichannel encoder

possibility to use CCT AAC as multichannel encoder

the bad news is that i must before "decode" to wav the file (5.1ch, dlp,stereo.. mono) and then use this wav to feed CCT AAC encoder

just a little slower :(

just a little slower :(

I don't know anything... but I gather that Transcoding to WAV first is... Generally Accepted Good Encoding Practice.

yes is more secure! i am afraid of all that for 5 minutes of delay think that program is useless... while quality is often due to some slow process :)

What if there was a checkbox that could be turned on and would restrict what values could be used, and it had a drop down menu for selecting MOD2/4/8/16?
Very nice idea...

I've just finished encoding Blade Trinity - Extended version (with 6 audio tracks including AC3 [surround + stereo] and DTS 6.1 surround)... and I'm busy with the Theatrical version (a bit shorter) with MP4 stereo (incl 2-channel directors commentary)...
This is one of those cases that I've done something 'legal' but still wrong.
I cropped Top=70, Bottom=72 and set Height=432 with anamorphic DAR=1024x434... but AutoMKV has forced the encode to 720x434 which isn't quite MOD16...

Sometimes I forget about the resize filter and all hell breaks loose while this time, the figures were sufficiently correct to fall through the cracks...
I'm sure a MOD16/8/4 tickbox system would negate this kind of insiduous error...

btw
Blade extended version is also 720x434... is there no way to encode at 432 with 70 & 72 cropping... which is a kinda reverse anamorphic encode based on height ???

buzzqw, any chance you could add minimize to system tray option for AutoKMV and related programs (such as DGIndex etc) for next version release?

Thanks!

Blade Trinity has cropping Top=70 and Bottom=72...

Is there any way to encode at 720x432 and then force anamorphic muxing to 1024x434... in other words, to expand it horizontally and vertically...

I was reading through the changelog and in 0.83 it says
FIXED: In Crop settings "Check Values" and "Preview" are valorized only if input file is present
I'm not 100% sure what this means but I tried encoding a movie on 'Creation Science Evangelism'.

It's a 640x480 movie with cropping L=6 and R=8
To keep with MOD16 I let width=624 but set encode as anamorphic with DAR=628x480 ...
AutoMKV does not like this and insists on encoding at 720x...
THEN I tried a straight encode with width=624 (hoping to re-mux with MkvMerge)... and all hell broke loose... since, I suppose, (624+14) NOT= 640 .

Perhaps our own stupidity is making fools of us all.

Makes sense... I'm hardly an experienced user, but safeguards like protection against odd-cropping is desirable while maintaining flexibillity to do the really 'kewl stuff' that MKV was designed to support...

Obviously being able to do these things in a safe environment... like kids at playschool... would probably be best...

I tried again with 0.80 and all is good... though I didn't try 624 anamorphic...

hi, i am new to AutoMKV (so new that i haven't encoded anything with it yet) however if someone may help on a 'video quality' issue.

i have been using Gordian Knot to date and have found a very useful reading to be the 'bits/pixel x frame'. I am not familiar with the 'profiles' for x264 in MKV container, and hence am not sure as to what the final file size should be for a chosen quality. with Gordian Knot all i had to do was keep the figure to approx 0.25 for good results.

does Automkv have this readout/function somewhere ? (and in my ignorance cannot see it) or can it be included in future revisions. also where can i get information on the video 'profiles'.

thanks.

does Automkv have this readout/function somewhere ? (and in my ignorance cannot see it) or can it be included in future revisions. also where can i get information on the video 'profiles'.
I'm pretty new myself and have only been encoding with AutoMKV for about 6 weeks... I have never used Gordian Knot though I did try BPP (bits per pixel) a few times with Dr (http://labs.divx.com/DrDivX) DivX (http://sourceforge.net/projects/drdivx/)...
I don't know whether you ever tried constant quality with Virtual Dub but it takes out much of the guesswork and better deals with the huge variety of movie-material, resolutions and framerates...

I regularly use the ConstantQuality-CRF which has a default setting of 18 (pretty much standard best quality). You can manually change the <BitrateQuantizer>18</BitrateQuantizer> upwards (ie 20, 22...) for smaller filesize (lesser quality).

Welcome to the best H264 GUI around...

i have been using Gordian Knot to date and have found a very useful reading to be the 'bits/pixel x frame'.

the bits/pixel * frame formula is not to use since it is only a number that cannot analyze the full film with all scenes

moreover with x264 this muber is more useless

I am not familiar with the 'profiles' for x264 in MKV container, and hence am not sure as to what the final file size should be for a chosen quality.

i undestand you problems, the x264 profiles need a serius rewritten, i suggest to use the Encoding-Baseline (fast speed and normal quality), Encoding-MainProfile (normal speed and good quality) and the Encoding-HighProfile (slow speed and very good quality)

or can it be included in future revisions.
i doubt... but...

also where can i get information on the video 'profiles'.
automkv profiles are based on SharkTooth profile, search on Mpeg4 AVC forum

Hi all,

Im new to using AutoMKV. I have been trying to use it to encode MP4/AVC for my PS3.

I keep getting an error when trying to play in my PS3: "Unsupported File". (Im pretty sure thats the message).

Would anyone know what settings I can use to make a PS3 compliant MP4?

Also Im having an issue with AutoMKV DeInterlacing my Anime DVD's.

I've tried using Auto, Film, and Progressive. Yet I still have the horizontal lines with fast motion or flashing lights in my Anime encodes.

Other than that, Incredible program.

Also, would anyone know of a guide to better explain some of the options?

I kinda fell of the DVD encoding now that I bought DVDRebuilder.

i will look deeply to this ps3 issue... so stay tuned for next update (if you allow i will link for donwload some sample to test playback...)

Also Im having an issue with AutoMKV DeInterlacing my Anime DVD's.

try using Auto e checking Allow Hybrid Pattern
also post a sample (cut it with dgindex) for analyzing

count me in for testing as well buzzqw

I'm already at work so it will take a while for me to test the sample but by this time tomorrow I will post back

afaik the hope to find a de-re muxing solution hasn't worked for anyone. it seems that the high profile / level qualities of the mp4s yield files that cannot be played on the ps3. matter of fact, one of redkawa's posts over at his/her site says that the culprit is mainly the profile.

main profile = :)
high profile =

i used a main profile

x264.exe --pass 1 --bitrate 543 --stats ".stats" --ref 0 --no-b-adapt --progress --keyint 250 --bframes 1 --qpmin 10 --qpmax 51 --no-psnr --trellis 1 --filter 0,0 --subme 6 --direct auto --vbv-maxrate 10000 --me umh --no-ssim --level 30 --no-cabac --weightb --b-rdo --bime --analyse p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,p4x4 --threads 3 --output NUL "movie.avs"
x264.exe --pass 2 --bitrate 543 --stats ".stats" --progress --keyint 250 --bframes 1 --qpmin 10 --qpmax 51 --no-psnr --trellis 1 --ref 1 --filter 0,0 --subme 6 --direct auto --vbv-maxrate 10000 --me umh --no-ssim --level 30 --no-cabac --weightb --b-rdo --bime --analyse p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,p4x4 --threads 3 --output "movie.mp4" "movie.avs"

audio is NeroEncAAC 0.35q

and this is the muxing string
"NicMP4Box.exe" -normal-mode -add "movie.mp4":par=2.350000 -add "audio.mp4:lang=und" -fps 25.000000 "ps3.mp4"

If you have a lot of size flexibility, try using crf instead. Even if you don't, the crf profile comes with comp check that autosizes the video based on your settings. That's a much more reliable way than basing the decision on a single number that has very limited bearing on reality, since it actually tests the content of the video.

Im onboard for testing, but Im at work at the moment. When I get home I will test right away.

Oh yeah, I did fix the Deinterlace issue, I set it to Film and used the Hybrid option.

I used to use Redkawa's PS3 converter, but found that I needed more functionality for my encodes, especially since I watch Anime with Japanese Audio and Eng Subs. I needed a method to burn the subtitles in.

The PS3 as of yet, does not support subtitles within a container.

yep.. as tooltip say hybrid is most usefull on anime and low budget ntsc transfer

@buzzqw:

I just played the clip you posted and it worked fine in my PS3!

Can you elaborate on what settings you used and maybe give me some tips.

Like I said, Im still new to this and I have alot of Anime DVD's I would like to convert to use on the PS3.

Im still unsure on what settings to use. Like for example the default filter selected when you startup is RemoveGrain(mode=2).

Should I use something like MipSmooth(preset = "AnimeHQ") for my Animes?

Thanks!!

that's good! thanks!!!

on previus page there are the command line i used to encode and mux, AND in next update i will include the PS3 profile for x264!

Like for example the default filter selected when you startup is RemoveGrain(mode=2).

removegrain is a general denoise filter, applyed in very light mode, in license.txt there are all the link to homepage of filters

Should I use something like MipSmooth(preset = "AnimeHQ") for my Animes?
mipsmooth is a good filter too! and the preset for High Quality Anime could denoise in proper way a good anime.
Is a little slow compared to removegrain but is more tuned for this kind of footage.
You can also try convolution3d and the anime (low quality/bad quality/high quality) preset

i can only suggest to try and try because all anime needs its proper filter and obviusly not always the same filter! :)
Use the search button of this great forum, anime and filter are your key for search!

thanks again!

Okay, last question:

x264.exe --pass 1 --bitrate 543 --stats ".stats" --ref 0 --no-b-adapt --progress --keyint 250 --bframes 1 --qpmin 10 --qpmax 51 --no-psnr --trellis 1 --filter 0,0 --subme 6 --direct auto --vbv-maxrate 10000 --me umh --no-ssim --level 30 --no-cabac --weightb --b-rdo --bime --analyse p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,p4x4 --threads 3 --output NUL "movie.avs"

How do I input this command line into AutoMKV, or is this the default for Encoding-MainProfile?

Every option corresponds to a profile option. Pick a profile and open the advanced profile editor, then see if you can pick out which options go with what. That command line is a little messy though - ref 0 is impossible (will default to 1), p4x4 shouldn't be allowed in level 3.0, and without cabac there's no trellis. But here's the profile, made with MeGUI, that you can just paste in:

(....)

This may not be the same as buzzqw's upcoming on, so rely on his, not mine. :p If you have the inclination, you might mess with the options to see if it's possible to raise any of the options, especially the references, or look at ps3 forums to see what it can handle.

buzzqw

ref 0 is impossible (will default to 1)

is 0 because is first turbo pass, thanks for bugs!
also thank for trellis and p4!

just one note: automkv profiles are a little differents.. so could be not 100% compatible!

few days and i will upload the new version of automkv!

(but.. for your test here the profile http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/PS3.zip )

I agree. I used the MeGUI profile and came away with alot of errors.

LOL. Once again I am at work, but I will try this once I get home.

Thanks for all the suggestions and test. I really appreciate the help and I do not mind at all being a tester for ANYTHING PS3.
