After almost 2 years the internal audio renderer is finally fixed! Thanks so much, @kasper93!
Btw, this change alone deserves at lest a minor version number bump if not a major one! It fixes such a huge bug!

So out of the blue MPC-HC created a folder named "MPC-HC Capture" in My Documents.
That happens for example when you (accidentally) press Ctrl+V (= Menu > File > Open Device).

Hi all,
I've being using MPC-HC for years on many setups, I always install the portable x64 version, run it with default settings and everything is fine.
In my latest laptop (MSI GL62 with Intel HD 630 and NVIDIA 1050Ti), the video is choppy.

I have the latest driver for the Intel HD 630 (from last month) and for NVIDIA (same, from last month).

Device manager is all clear from issues and everything is recognized.

The coppy playback happen on all type of files, from 720P to 1080P and increase as I increase the screen of the MPC-HC window. Same happen with VLC. If it helps, when I try to play with the volume keys (up and down arrow), the playback almost stop!).
Check out the image below: https://imgur.com/a/Ljbu4

Would appreciate any help.

the video is not decoded fast enough. there could be a lot of reasons for that.

could be the file for example.

Change from software to hardware encoding (or vice versa) and see if that makes any difference. Your system should cope with 1080P software encoding anyway I reckon.

huhn,
This happen also with 720P files.

fvisagie,
Same results without DXVA.

LigH,
Please explain.

I had an old i3 from 5 years ago without any issues.

Any thoughts?

A player decodes the video. It has been encoded long before. MPC-HC is not involved in any encoding.

Sorry if this has been discussed before but when running build .112 with internal LAV + madVR everything is O.K. !!
But when I use external LAV filters (even with the same as the internals(.66)) I loose h/w-acceleration. After blocking external LAV video decoder it works again.
I already tried re-installing external LAV with reset. Does anyone maybe have an idea/solution ?

sneaker_ger

What do the filter settings of LAV Video internal and external look like respectively? Are they different? (best make 2 screenshots through Play>Filters>LAV Video [...])

But when I use external LAV filters (even with the same as the internals(.66))
Isn't MPC-HC nightly on .74?

Grimsdyke
18th September 2017, 10:42
Using external LAV it says 'active decoder: inactive' and 'active hardware accelerator: none' instead of 'dxva2n' and my 'Radeon'.
Will check if there is a newer build using .74.

Is it correct that HC overrides external LAV Splitter always to internal ?

huhn
18th September 2017, 11:07
not every video can be decaded by hardware so make sure the file in question support hardware decoding and yes MPC-HC is using the internal lavfilter by default not the external and it is using it's own settings.

Grimsdyke
18th September 2017, 12:55
Of course I test this issue with the same file !!! Does anyone know what the HC-dev's are patching in LAV splitter ?? Would it be better to post this in Nev's forum ??

sneaker_ger
18th September 2017, 13:02
"active decoder: inactive" means it isn't currently playing. Let it play, then go "Play">"Filters">"LAV Video [...]"(*). Make screenshot and post it here. Also "Play">"Filters">"Copy filters list to clipboard" and post them here. Do everything for both internal and external. Post MediaInfo of the file.

(*) patch for MPC-HC is that settings are stored in a separate place. That's why it's vital you do exactly as I say to get into settings.

hi

i need help for: down mixing multi channel dolby & dts codec to stereo, normalizing them. and aslo why the default option is not mixing low frequency effects. what exactly matrix encoding do.

please help
thanks

LigH

It's not really an MPC-HC specific question, because probably any specification-faithful software should use the same channel mixing factors, as specified to be defaults in general or for specific purposes. Not mixing LFE is probably based on the purpose of this channel containing not primarily the low frequencies of the normal audio, but additional effects designed by an audio studio, making them rather optional.

Possibly interesting Wikipedia articles: Dolby Pro Logic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Pro_Logic) + Matrix decoder (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_decoder) (especially chapters 9 and 10 for Dolby Surround variants).

Side note: By design, dts on a DVD Video was not meant to be downmixed. It was usually only passed through digitally to a multi-channel amplifier by a DVD player.

17th October 2017, 22:57
why the default option is not mixing low frequency effects

Because one can't assume a stereo system will have enough headroom in the 20-120 Hz range to handle low frequency effects. It's better not to have LFE than to overload your speakers. LFE should only be mixed in if you know that your speakers can handle it (if you're using loudspeakers without a subwoofer, it probably can't).

@devs, I'm happy that new devs continue this project - thank you!

Could you please update:

https://mpc-hc.org/

It currently still says "Latest news: Farewell". So people in various forums still believe MPC-HC is dead and gone for good.

Hi,

does MPC-HC support scanning & playing of DVB-T2 channels? Because MPC can't find those channels in my case.

Also, is there somewhere a spec of the DVB channel config syntax? I mean this:

[DVBConfiguration]
0=5| NOVA|610000|8000|0|0|0|1|8395|2306|513|100|101|101|0|2|0|0|-1|111|2|3|cze|112|2|3|cze|3|1|720|576|0

Some of those values are self-explaining, some are less (stream IDs, but I figured those out), some are totally unknown :)

I know the multiplex frequency, when inputted manually, MPC shows somewhat correct signal strength & quality, but doesn't play anything. A quick look into the filters used somewhat explains why - it thinks the stream is MPEG2 (but that is maybe defined in the channel config...?).

The stream format is HEVC/h265 960x540 video, AAC 48 KHz stereo sound. Another player plays those channels.

Thanks for any info, advice or help in general :)

I don't know what happened, but since D3D11 HW Decoder was implemented in LAV Video Decoder, I can't get HW playback anymore. This happens on both laptops, one with a Geforce GPU, and the other with a Radeon one. Before D3D11, I could get HW playback with DXVA2 native or DXVA2 copyback using either Intel HD Graphics or dedicated GPU, but now it always fall back to SW decoding. DXVA2 copyback has as HW Device options Automatic and Geforce/Radeon, but it doesn't work either.

If I choose D3D11, it doen't matter whether Hardware Device is set to Automatic (Native), Geforce/Radeon or Intel HD Graphics, it always uses Software Render. The only way to get HW decoding is to choose Intel QuickSync as HW decoder, which is not efficient as using the laptop dedicated GPU or using Intel HD Graphics with DXVA2 Native decoder. How can I have HW decoding back with DXVA2 native/copyback or D3D11 back? Thanks in advance.

Good morning
I use version 1.7.13.112, and I noticed that in playing MKV files from Blu-ray UHD a difference in video parameters (color, brightness and contrast), instead of MKV playback from Blu-ray no problem.
Does it depend on PC monitor that is not HDR?

The UHD file definitely looks like HDR. You can use madVR to play it properly (if it was encoded properly).

It is. There are some PR's that were updated but no one merged anything yet. Currently only kasper93 is the only developer.

madshi

I don't have the development resources to create a decent media player. And even if I had, I wouldn't want to compete with devs who have supported madVR for years. Maybe at some point I might do a demo project showing how to build a minimalistic media player using madVR with like 100 lines of code or so. But that would probably only be useful for media player devs, not for users. And it definitely won't come before madVR 1.0, so probably not any time soon.

Our friend nevcairiel works for JRiver, and they'll be one of madshi's biggest initial customers once 1.0 is available for licensing.

madshi
12th November 2017, 22:48
There will always be a free madVR version. Maybe I'll make a "pro" version available with some fancy extra features for a small price, but my best guess is that most media players will stick to the free version. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Anyway, we're really OT now.

madshi
13th November 2017, 00:26
MPC-HC doesn't really need dramatic changes, but if users get the impression that the project is dead, then some/many users will search for alternatives and switch. Currently the official MPC-HC homepage says "farewell", so basically users are left with no hope of ever getting a new build. The reason I'm sad is not that I was wishing for MPC-HC to get tons of changes/improvements, but I'm sad because if there are no active devs left and even the official homepage says farewell, then all signs point to MPC-HC truly being dead, and isn't that a good reason to be sad?

It takes me over 5 minutes to load my videos tree to a playlist. Granted I have over 16000 videos but is there anything at all I could do to make this go any faster? If I do this again in a short while it's faster for some reason.

I'm not even sure what it's doing with the videos since it's not loading length info. Generating the playlist via command line takes 5 seconds so I'm not sure why this takes any longer than that.

I created a script that picks 100 files randomly to a playlist that it loads in 4 seconds flat (good as a screen saver too!) but I would like to have all my files in the list so I can click more episodes of the same show right from the playlist.

Sorry for nitpicking but this has been a problem forever and I had to say something eventually. Perfect player in every other way though so thanks a whole about that!
