Sorry for the question:
How (with which keys strokes) can I switch to full screen view and back to windowed view?
I got it somehow to be in full screen (with slider at the bottom) but found no way back to windowed view.
Thx

New features are always welcome :) I don't have opinion about this one, really. But One thing is sure, tooltip to explain things for end user, would be nice. Because this way it's little bit confusing.
BTW, You could make fork and push the change to your private repository. Then whole team could discuss the change on github.

Hi all
I am trying to find a way to "detect" whether an .mkv file contains a normal or a sbs movie.
I tried to see if there are any differences through the mediainfo, and i saw that some of them (sbs) are containing some info according to this.
Is there a way to detect that in MPC HC ??
I am trying to automatically change some external filters when i am watching an sbs movie or not.
Thanks in advance !

Hi all.
I've just noticed that there are also Intel builds in the nighties. Is there any merit to using Intel builds over Microsoft builds or vice-versa?
LigH
23rd February 2013, 14:06
Not seriously. Most really time-critical decoder routines are already assembler optimized, the choice of the C compiler doesn't make any obvious speed difference.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll play with both, just for grins and giggles. The Intel builds do seem to be a bit bigger.

Yes; speed optimization often results in bigger code, e.g. because loops are unrolled into repetitive sequences.

Dear mpc-hc developers,
I am stuck with mpc-hc 1.6.6.6500 as the subtitle language advanced selection provided by lav / haali splitter is broken in newer mpc-hc builds.
When do you plan to restore it ?
Thanks a lot for your overall work and solving this issue.

Both of those combinations work.
You've accidentally hit Ctrl+F and enabled D3D Fullscreen, press Ctrl+C to stop playback and turn it off then. It is a very common problem.
In the nightly I changed the default hotkey to Ctrl+Alt+F to reduce the chances of the hotkey being hit accidentally. And I've also added a little OSD reminder when people hit escape while D3D Fullscreen is active.

Can I scale and change placement on embedded PGS subs in m2ts files? I'm using ffdshow for video (ffdshow DXVA) and audio. So far no luck on changing placement, but I can change scale if I use the ffdshow video decoder for PGS subs, while internal MPC-HC subs controls do not work for either. If I demux and convert SUP to SUB/IDX, then I can control those options.

Is there a setting to turn this behavior off?

It is probably caused by commit 2ccec30 (https://github.com/mpc-hc/mpc-hc/commit/2ccec30a86a326a86af9649ba5b0695c17f90cc8), though it should allow the external filters even if they're duplicates of the internal ones as long as they're disabled.

Still can't use xy-VSFilter (auto-loading version) when Playback -> Auto-load subtitles is checked (MPC-HC.1.6.6.6812.x86 works fine). Also Subtitles -> Misc Prefer external subtitles over embedded subtitles and Ignore embedded subtitles are checked (i use xy-VSFilter for embedded subs and MPC internal engine for external subs).

This is kinda intentional. As soon as you enable the Internal Subtitle Renderer, it blocks external VSFilter, because otherwise they may conflict rather oddly. Its not a supported use-case at this time.
One thing related to this that i find rather stupid is that all the forks of VSFilter don't change the name and CLSID of their filters, which results in MPC-HC thinking this is vanilla VSFilter, which has the exact same features as the ISR, and deserves to be blocked. If the xy-VSFilter people would just change the CLSID of the filter (and possibly the same to include xy as well, for good measure), this wouldn't even happen.
Additionally, i have no clue why you would want the ISR for some subtitles but not for others (or vice versa). :)
TL;DR: Ask the xy-VSFilter developers to change the CLSID of their filter, so it doesn't collide with vanilla VSFilter anymore.

But using different renderers for external/embedded subs is just silly.

The main reason why xy-VSFilter has maintained the original CLSID, is to maintain drop-in compatibility with any existing third-part applications or codecs which either manually load or contain workarounds for VSFilter.dll
IMHO, blocking VSFilter.dll in MPC-HC when the ISR is enabled is the correct behavior to have, otherwise you risk problem like the ISR rendering subtitles on top of VSFilter.dll rendering and killing performance. Unfortunately there is a lot of bad advice on the internet, and anybody who sets the non-autoloading version "DirectVobSub" to prefer in MPC-HC will cause both ISR and VSFilter to render subtitles at the same time, even in the current version I tested 1.6.6.6899. This is by far the most common issue I've seen people run into when they attempt to migrate from using the MPC-HC ISR to VSFilter.dll.
If MPC-HC really does have a hidden "BlockVSFilter" key in the registry, in many ways I would like if it would also block would also cover "DirectVobSub" set to prefer in the external filters when the ISR is enabled, like it already does for the auto-loading version. This would have a large benefit of fixing what I suspect are a large number of semi-broken MPC-HC subtitle setups in the wild. The users who require this specific behavior would still be able to enable it by disabling the hidden BlockVSFilter registry key.
On the other side, it can also still confusing to many users that the poorly labeled "Auto-load subtitles" setting in MPC-HC control is really an "Enable MPC-HC ISR subtitle auto-loading / Disable VSFilter" toggle. I would normally suggest adding informative tooltips, but that would likely confuse users even more. At some point the entire subtitle settings dialog likely needs to be redesigned to more gracefully control whether the internal or potentially one of multiple external subtitle renderers is allowed to load. This entire situation is just going to get more complex once xy_sub_filter using the new subtitle interface is released, with only madVR initially supporting it.

I think it could be useful to have the ability to display more than one subtitles on screen (AFAIK currently this is only possible using two different subtitle renderers, right?).
For example if you are using a teaching video you can have to the original language subtitles and ones in your native language position at a different place on the screen.
This way the viewer can hear and see the original language and at the same time see the translation.
I'm not saying that this is a common usage but it has practical benefits so why remove it?

After 3 months since the last stable build, we decided to release 1.6.6.
This release has many bugfixes and a few new features. Also, the binaries are digitally signed (http://mpc-hc.org/2013/02/25/binaries-are-signed/) so you can easily verify their integrity.
Highlights of this release:
Uncompressed RAR files can now be played directly in MPC-HC, drag any .rar or part file (.r00, .r01, etc.) into the player to play it (thanks to RARFileSource)
The Subtitle menu now shows all available subtitle tracks including the tracks offered by the splitter
“Now playing” information can now be sent to Skype’s mood message, MSN support has been removed
VSync is now turned off by default due to playback issues, if you have Aero on you already have VSync and will not notice the difference
The hotkeys related to D3D Fullscreen and Frame Time Correction have changed to avoid accidental activation
The external filter list has been split for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the player, your current filter list will automatically be corrected
Also besides the usual localization updates a new Romanian localization has been added. We thank our translators for keeping MPC-HC accessible to our non-English users.
You can download the new version here (http://mpc-hc.org/downloads/). For the complete changes see the changelog (http://mpc-hc.org/changelog/).
And if you're interested in looking at commits since the last stable you can see it here (https://github.com/mpc-hc/mpc-hc/compare/1.6.5...1.6.6). We've had 591 commits by 22 authors. :)

Does version 1.6.6 correct as planned the subtitle language advanced selection provided by lav / haali splitter broken after mpc-hc 1.6.6.6500 ?
Underground78 is already working on a solution, we consider it a blocker so it will be solved before the next stable is released.
Thanks for your work.
