It is just a matter of adding the ProRes FourCCs to the list of supported formats for the internal decoder.

That would prespectively turn the video left/right, not flip it upside down as probably desired (there are rare cases of bottom-up stored video formats).

Well then Alt+8 or Alt+2, but thanks to the ambiguous nature of their question it's anyone's guess what they really meant.
That's why asking the right question is a great skill to have.

Hi!
Can anyone tell me whether I can set MPC-HC to be portable? Or at least have it store the settings within it's folder.

Yes, there's an option named "Store settings in .ini file".

Hi, I was wondering about optimum volume setting with this audio chain: my audio output is from the onboard Realtek chip via the 3.5mm analog out jack to my analog 2.1 speakers. In MPC-HC as with the rest of my apps that have an internal volume control I leave them at 100%. In Windows mixer I have the speakers at 65, and correspondingly the MPC-HC volume slider on the right is also at 65 as apps cannot be higher than the master. I was wondering if one could have better audio results by setting the speaker volume slider in the windows mixer to 100, and lowering the sound on the MPC-HC slider to 65? Or effectively there is no difference between speakers 65- mpc 65 and speakers 100- mpc 65? The same setup would apply to headphones too. Thanks!

The way I understand it you are using the optimal configuration, at least theoretically.
The digital signal at 100%, preserving the full dynamic range, with the volume controled by the DAC.

For optimal signal-to-noise ratio, a rule of thumb is to always set maximum volume up until the very last downstream element of the audio chain that has a volume control (speaker, AV receiver…), and use that last element to set the actual volume. There are exceptions (e.g. DACs that have trouble with full-scale signals), but they are rare.
In your case, it is likely that the Windows volume control for your soundcard is driving a hardware gain control (through the audio driver), which will provide a better SNR than a purely digital (software) volume control.
Note, though, that none of this really matters as long as you can't hear any background noise (such as hum). There's no point in improving SNR if the noise is already inaudible.

I've just built both x32 and x64 from f7612c7 @master (latest commit) on Windows 8.1 with Visual Studio 2013 Update 5.
It seems to be working fine with a quick test (both x32 and x64 versions), use it at your own risk since it's not an official release.

You only need the bin package, register the filters, then select Sanear Audio Renderer at Output page in MPC-HC/BE instead of Internal Audio renderer. A tray icon will be present during playback where you can set properties.
And Wasapi Exclusive finally works as it should: no channel and sample rate conversion anymore. :) Also you can pause, make a skype call, then unpause. :)
Post your feedback of its stability (mention version and mode (exclusive or shared)) then maybe our beloved devs will integrate this current version if it's working well.
Hi, I'm giving this a try using release 1.7.10 (d911f14). Initial feedback is that I didn't see any way to register it, so I added it as an External Filter inside mpc-hc and set it to preferred. I noted that doing it this way installs the Sanear entry twice, so I removed one of two as this is probably a bug of some sort. Sanear does not appear on the output page, but I can tell it is working because the purple tray icon showed up. Exclusive mode seems quieter than shared mode, not sure why yet. Using an analog 2.1 system. Also noted that the Sanear buffer is 200 ms, while the DirectSound buffer is less, 24 ms, assuming they are measuring the same thing.

Adding it as external filter is not needed if you use bat file from https://github.com/alexmarsev/sanear/tree/master/dll/skel to register sanear.

Hi!
I recently found a new file named 'DCBC2A71-70D8-4DAN-EHR8-E0D61DEA3FDF.ini' on my PC. Google says it might be a virus (I don't think so), a Windows Media Player file or a MPC-HC file, created when playing some AVIs.
If the latter is true can someone please confirm that and explain what it's for?
LigH
15th November 2016, 16:50
If it is the latter, then there may be file specific details saved. I could imagine a preference for external subtitles or similar (which I never used yet, so I don't have this experience).
Are you able to read this INI file in a text editor/viewer (like Notepad or something slightly more elaborate)?

Are you able to read this INI file in a text editor/viewer (like Notepad or something slightly more elaborate)? It's not human readable except for 'Root Entry', 'auds' and 'vids'.
Found this out myself:
'DCBC2A71-70D8-4DAN-EHR8-E0D61DEA3FDF.ini' is created (or added to) when playing WMVs. Since MPC-HC uses windows media codecs (instead of LAVFilters) for this specific case, it seems this is a windows media history file. It also seems that it can be savely deleted.

Ctrl+c ok. I don't like the hot keys, I rarely use hot keys and rarely reading about them in the programmes. More logical with the button the stop have the action occurred ctrl+c, not duplicated pause. From the button stop waiting the action stop not pause. Maybe to alter. Button stop = drop(ctrl+c) playback file, not pause.
LigH
24th November 2016, 14:19
I always use Stop (hotkey: '.' = dot) as "Pause+Rewind", because I often play a file repeatedly from the beginning (e.g. when inspecting a short encoding test clip). If Stop would unload the media file, a following Play (hotkey: space bar) would have to re-open the file (and analyze it again and build a splitter/decoder/renderer chain again) which will take much longer than just rewinding.

In MPC have a pause button. If need will use pause, in player have the pause button. I just offered to do the stop button is equal to the action ctrl+c.

I'm setting Directshow video by default. Preview is normal. While the screenshot has a lot of yellow. What could be the reason?
Directshow which currently is the best. It is somewhere some comparison.

A lot of questions back, I suppose...
Issues with every kind of video in different formats, or just a specific range (if so, does MediaInfo reveal details)? Is High Bit Depth involved? Any comparison from you between a screenshot from within MPC-HC and as close as possible a frame out of e.g. an AviSynth script decoding it?
I would suspect that maybe the screenshot feature cannot handle specific decoded output formats required to render in high bit depths?
Jamaika

I always thought that if information is already processed by the decoder then what else can spoil by processing to rgb. Strange because madvr is no problem.
LigH
2nd December 2016, 18:52
The decoder will usually decode to a YUV variant (for most modern video formats), then leave the display to a renderer; different renderers may handle the purpose of making the content visible in different ways, though. Some renderers may handle formats with 10 bit per YUV component, others may not be able. You can see the "screenshot saver" as another kind of renderer, I believe (if I am not wrong). Knowing the difference may help discovering the reason, therefore please try to show us a picture of both ways of rendering.

I think there is an issue with MPC-HC resolution upscaling monitor resolutions higher than 1920x1080, mine is 2048x1152. I posted this in the madVR thread and I was told that the issue is the player's responsibility and that madVR only scales to what it is told to.
Examples-
1772x952 as reported in the madVR OSD.
The default aspect ratio selected is 1.86 and it scaled to 0,26,2048,1126.
Changing it manually to 1.85 scales it to 0,22,2048,1129.
1280x688 as reported in the madVR OSD.
The default aspect ratio selected is 1.86 and it scaled to 0,26,2048,1127.
Changing it manually to 1.85 scales it to 0,22,2048,1129.
I think the 1.85 setting looked a tiny bit better than the default. Circles are the best thing to look at when judging this.
Same deal with this video..
1920x808 as reported in the madVR OSD.
The default aspect ratio selected is 21:9 and it scaled to 0,145,2048,1007.
Changing it manually to 2.35 scales it to 0,140,2048,1011.
I think the 2.35 setting looked a tiny bit better.
Basically I am seeking understanding of why the "default" calculation picks what it does, rather than what I think it should be picking which is based on what I observe for geometric proportions where circles are perfectly round and not wider or taller.
Thanks!
clsid
5th December 2016, 16:36
The calculations are correct.
(2048/1772)*952 = 1100.28 (which matches 1126-26=1100)
The aspect ratio in the unscaled resolution is probably already off a bit. It is common practice to crop a few pixels in height during encoding in order to make it a modulo 4 (or 8) value.

I have a weird issue with the exclusive mode of the internal audio renderer... It only happens in exclusive mode, normal mode works... it doesn't happen with reclock's exclusive mode
sometimes after a scene is over and it fades to black, when the next scene starts, the center channel stays silent... happened maybe 15 times so far... one time the center audio was playing in left rear speaker...
When this happens, I pause the video for about half second and resume play, everything's fine again, but it has to be at least about half a second, if I pause and resume too quickly, the center channel is still missing...
I have jump forward/backward (medium) hotkeys mapped to mouse buttons, if I use them after it happens, the center channel is still missing, even if I go back before it fades to black so it has to be pause and resume...
Here's my theory:
It's a combination of exclusive mode and a windows issue.
In regular mode, there is a little clicking sound when it fades to black.
it feels like when sound is silent, windows stops sending audio and when there's sound again, it starts sending audio again, resulting in a little clicking sound (and maybe 100-200ms of audio missing at the beginning of the scene)
I got to this conclusion after looking for a video on youtube for a friend and I noticed that in this video, audio keeps dropping out every few seconds (same clicking sound) basically when audio is silent inbetween sentences:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JYZDnenaGc
Clicking and missing audio at
00:11 - audio starts at "talking about" - "What we're" is missing
00:15 - audio starts at "eyes just" - "And if you're" is missing
00:17 - audio starts at "some simple" - "I've got some" is missing
goes on and on, it doesn't drop out if I have quiet music running in the background, to make it not completely silent.
There is no clicking in exclusive mode.
I'm guessing when windows wants to drop audio and send it again, exclusive mode loses audio and doesn't pick up all channels when audio reappears...
This is a sample video:
http://www39.zippyshare.com/v/YP9eoHcE/file.html
note that this issue appears 100% of the time, so every time I play this sample, the center channel is silent after it fades to black.
Would be great if you can fix that.
Of course the issue would probably also be resolved if someone knows how to make windows not drop audio in the first place...
but note that my AVR is contantly reporting that it's receiving 5.1 audio, so it's not like there isn't any audio being sent at all, seems like windows is always sending silent audio, just seems to take a bit of time to change between sending silent audio and non-silent audio. Don't know why that is.
My setup:

Geforce GTX 780 Ti SC (video and audio transfer via 1 HDMI cable)

The most recent nightly build was released about 6 weeks ago. Version 1.7.10.269. It's been totally stable for me.

So after more than one year without a new release I've decided to try the latest nightly build, v1.7.10.269.
And to my surprise, it appears that the buttons have almost doubled in size!
1.7.10 release:

1.7.10.269:

This is not only ugly but useless to me.
And I've found no option to adjust the size to what it was before.
I understand it can be usefull on some displays but please, please, please, make an option for the ability to use small buttons.
Thank you.

You can control the size and shrink it down a bit with this option:
Options -> Advanced -> DefaultToolbarSize (16 seems to be close in size to the old one)
Or switch to the actual old one using this option:
Options -> Advanced -> UseLegacyToolbar

That's what I was looking for, thanks a lot for enlightening me :)
