I've attempted to use the DXVA resizer in my version of the renderer in the past. It's quite a menace to configure. Especially when using pre-resizing pixel shaders. Also, none of the three big GPU manufacturers linearize the gamma before resizing. The quality of DXVA resizing isn't that great compared to quality methods in pixel shaded resizers.
I am sorry to hear about that. At least for me, using EVR with subtitles without having 20% CPU utilization with xyVSFilter would be super. But, that's not the case in reality. Also, madVR really is a qualitative renderer, but sucks battery on laptops because of this very nature. EVR could deliver an adequate quality for me, while in respect EVR-CP even with Bicubic resizer... well, seems far from EVR in overall quality and exeperience.
Where is my renderer low on GPU/CPU usage while delivering "o.k." quality? :o

Quality DXVA resizer enough if it works. And it's fast.
But it working with RGB on Intel only. On Nvidia DXVA resizer works for NV12, YV12 and YUY2 only. :(

Too bad it doesn't work on EVR-CP :(

Drag&drop from a CD/DVD acts as a "copy" operation. Drag&drop on a regular drive acts as a "move" operation. You can change that to "copy" by holding Ctrl button. Then it also fails when dropping onto MPC-HC.
since build 1.7.8.61 drag & drop requires the namedpipe "netlogon" present in:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Npfs\Aliases\lsass"
otherwise drag & drop to the playlist (from any drive and with admin rights) fails without a error message, drag & drop to the player results in the error "Encountered an improper argument."
is there any hope for a fix or workaround?

You need to be more specific what do you want to do and how to reproduce.
from any drive
Works fine for me. And above all "netlogon" is by default present.
and with admin rights
You cannot drag and drop from non elevated process to elevated one with UAC enabled.

i did some more tests:
this problem only occurs with windows server 2003 32-bit, not with xp and windows 7 64-bit.
after removing the entry netlogon from registry you have to reboot to check the result.
is there a way to get a debug/error log from mpc-hc?

DVD plays the studio intro and goes to the menu normally. I click play and the ratings clip or FBI warning begins play and playback hangs although the OSD says "playing". MPC-HC itself isn't hung. This is with 1.7.9.190.
1.7.9 stable plays same media normally.

Interesting. Could you provide a sample? Or at least try to find last working version? Without more info it will be hard to diagnose.

Stuttering is unlikely to be an MPC-HC issue. Changing aspect ratio not working will be fixed soon. I've added a new API, which kasper93 plans to add support for, which should fix that issue.
stuttering is only in windows 10, in windows 7 never had stutters

I'd have to provide you with a whole DVD as a sample. I'll experiment with some nightlies and see what I can find out.
But this happens on multiple machines. Selecting any audio renderer other than "Internal audio renderer" solves the problem.
It seems to make no difference if it's a physical disk or a mounted image. Disks that fail, fail consistently. Disks that play play consistently. I don'tt have any playback problems other than this - which is DVD only. BDs play fine. Disks that fail, play normally in a standalone player. This is just a feeling, but it seems the failing disks are the ones that have a silent clip after pressing play.
(Time passes....)
Okay, the oldest nightly I've got is 14, and it does not happen with that one. Problem seems to start with 105. Were there any nightlies between 14 and 105?
EDIT: I found some more nightlies - 76 is good, problem seems to start at 105. Now here's a curve ball - I downloaded and installed the Sanear standalone audio renderer and tried that, just for grins and giggles. Playback hung on that one too.

Forget what I posted above about a sample. I have a sample here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/2omf7ydz4ilqjh6/Demo.ISO?dl=0).
What you should see is a studio intro accompanied by fanfare music followed by a simple menu with a "Play" button. After pressing the play button you should see the MPAA rating screen (7 seconds, no audio), then the "FBI Warning" (7 sec, no audio), then comes the "main movie", actually 75 seconds of an action clip with audio, then back to the menu.
What I'm seeing, but only if the Internal Audio Renderer or the standalone Sanear audio renderer is selected is thst playback stops during the rating clip. Any other audio renderer results in normal payback.
This sample was created by demuxing the vobs from an offending DVD and muxing them back together with a new menu and a junk clip for the main movie.
I'll keep this sample up for a week or two. It's not big, it's a little over 68MB.

Is there any way to change the default behaviour of the Internal Audio Renderer when it's using exclusive mode to not matrix the audio to match the system speaker configuration?
For example if I wanted to passthrough 1.0/2.0/2.1/etc to my receiver and have it do the matrixing, instead of the audio renderer auto-matrixing to match the 5.1 speaker config I have set.
Edit: Well to be precise it is adding dummy channels, but still no way to change this behaviour that I can see.

Is it working only in shared mode, right? If there's a way then an option would be good for this.

Current dev branch of sanear doesn't apply matrix to hdmi exclusive output. Once it's released, mpc-hc will have the same behavior.

Hi,
I fairly recently updated to the latest stable version of MPC HC (1.7.9) and I have issues bitstreaming DTS-HD MA tracks. At around 50-1 hour mark of every movie, it would switch to DTS core. I reverted back to version 1.7.8 and everything plays back fine.
Is this a known issue? Sorry if it is.

Don't be sorry. Best thing you can do is test the latest nightly (https://nightly.mpc-hc.org/) and if it's not fixed there then it should be reported.

Alright, I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks.
edit: Appears to be fixed in the latest nightly build. :)

since "Use the built-in subtitle renderer" been removed and replaced by Subtitle Renderer selection, it seems there's no way to disable the subtitle from the start. Also it seems that BlockVSFilter on Advanced option is not needed anymore.
kasper93
10th November 2015, 19:09
You can disable subtitles in play->subtitle track menu. Don't mix renderer selection with disabling subtitles. Or you can even go to the options and on page subtitles->misc set to ignore subtitles and remove auto loading paths. As for third party renderer you will need to consult their settings.
Also it seems that BlockVSFilter on Advanced option is not needed anymore.
Why do you say so? Regarding this option nothing changed. Everything works the same as it were.

So, would there be any way YouTube DASH videos could also be supported with MPC-HC now?
Maybe by implementing youtube-dl inside MPC-HC or something like that?
Good to know ffmpeg can support dash seeking properly.
But YouTube Terms of Service document explicitly forbids using any third-party players.
Once that changes (maybe official API for Red subscribers, though I wouldn't be too hopeful), we will add support for it. But unlikely before. It will be hell to support and illegal to use.

I was looking at MPC-BE. There's an option to don't show the subtitles. Different concept or design. okay, thanks :)

I say so because I thought the value would be hardcoded and/or handled by subtitle renderer selection. Sorry, maybe I was wrong. I understand now. thanks :)

Is there a way to do real-time audio pitching to 432hz using MPC-HC?

My first guess is Reclock. I took a look but can't find any option in it to shift the pitch.

Anyone know what might suddenly cause "presentation glitches" that persist until the system is restarted?
I've used MPC-HC (with madVR) for about a year now and never had issues. But today I tried to watch something and got dozens (if not hundreds) of presentation glitches per second. I did not change any settings in either MPC-HC or madVR at any recent time that may explain the change. I knew the file itself wasn't the culprit because the same issue happened when I tried playing a file I knew played fine yesterday.
Restarting my computer made it work fine again, and I've watched 15 minutes of a video with no presentation glitches.
RAM usage was trivial and CPU usage next to nothing. I have two GTX 780 video cards, so that wasn't the problem. Again, never had problems until now.

It's a longstanding issue on NVIDIA optimus platform (haswell + maxwell).
HD4600 + GTX 860M
MPC-HC just can't play any file (show blackscreen at the start) when it's run on dGPU, see this (http://i.imgur.com/RdCJEbq.png), while other similar players like MPC-BE (http://i.imgur.com/CuvUXgy.png) or PotPlayer (http://i.imgur.com/dpRQXLp.png) have no this problem.
ps: NVIDIA forces media players run on iGPU, you should let NVIDIA INSPECTOR remove the restriction. :)

Not without modifying the code or using some exotic filters.

Driver bug most likely, if restarting the player didn't help.

Now this is tricky. My guess it's related to DXVA. Does vanilla EVR (not CP) behaves the same? Did you use the latest nightly build of MPC-HC?

vanilla EVR shows blackscreen with all media players (wmp potp mpc-hc mpc-be....)
I always use latest ngihtly build and reset all settings to ensure the test result, and this issue remains since I bought this laptop :)

After 5 months since our last stable build, we are happy to announce v1.7.10.
This release is a bugfix release, with many improvements and a few new features.
A few highlights of this release:
* Completely new Internal Audio Renderer:
- Uses sanear project as backend
- Requires Windows Vista or newer
- Outputs sound through WASAPI (shared or exclusive)
- Employs automatic channel downmixing
- Provides stereo crossfeed processing option (for headphones)
- Tries to preserve signal pitch when playing at custom rate (time stretching)
- Supports bitstreaming
Note that you need to select the new renderer in options in order to use it
* Windows 10 related fixes:
- Improved mouse behavior
- Fixed volume control with scroll wheel
- Window snapping to desktop edges
* Allow hardware decoding of UHD video with AMD cards
* Big video rendering stability improvement
* New Indonesian, Lithuanian and Punjabi translations. Remember that you can help us (https://trac.mpc-hc.org/wiki/Translations) translating MPC-HC to your language.
Don't forget, that our official builds, both the stable and the beta builds, are digitally signed (https://mpc-hc.org/2013/02/25/binaries-are-signed/). Be aware of scams and only get the files from our site!
Also, to report bugs, suggestions and generally provide feedback, use our Trac (https://trac.mpc-hc.org/); reporting anything on social media or in any other place is just pointless, as the developers only follow Trac.
You can download the new version here (https://mpc-hc.org/downloads/). For the complete changes see the changelog (https://mpc-hc.org/changelog/).

How does this feature behave if LAV's channel mixing is enabled too?
Does it automatically take priority over LAV?

Audio decoder is before renderer so no it will not take priority over LAV. It will already receive downmixed audio.

It will already revive downmixed audio.
Revive? Did you mean to write "receive"?
So if the renderer receives an already downmixed audio, it won't touch it? That's good.
Also, which option would you say is the better choice for downmixing, LAV or the internal renderer?

It is the same. It is just called Internal Audio Renderer because it is integrated into MPC-HC.
Revive? Did you mean to write "receive"?
Of course.
Also, which option would you say is the better choice for downmixing, LAV or the internal renderer?
Shouldn't be difference. In LAV you can tweak down mixing options. Though you don't need it it most cases.

I thought I'd point out, because I couldn't see mention of it already, MPC-HC 1.7.10 (and at least the previous version) complains about not being able to find mfplat.dll when the EVR renderer is selected and it's running on XP. I tried MPC-HC 1.7.5 and it didn't complain about mfplat.dll and EVR worked fine. Maybe mfplat.dll is something that arrives when upgrading WMP to version 11, which I haven't done. I'm not sure, but MPC-HC 1.7.5 didn't seem to require it.
Yes, XP is old. No Microsoft don't support it any more, and yes it's continued use is probably a crime against humanity, but I just thought I'd mention the problem anyway. ;)
Cheers.

You should use VMR-9 (Renderless). See https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd374574.aspx Microsoft never officially supported EVR on XP. Yes, dependency on this file were added in 1.7.9 IIRC. But we have no plans in supporting XP anymore and since this isn't a critical issue it won't be fixed.

Maybe mfplat.dll is something that arrives when upgrading WMP to version 11, which I haven't done.
You don't have to replace WMP9 w/ WMP11,
the WMP11 runtime files (wmfdist11.exe) are sufficient
(and are also required if you intend to use Windows Media Encoder for creating VC-1 content).
hello_hello
15th November 2015, 14:59
Thanks filler56789. I wasn't aware the WMP11 runtime files existed in that form. EVR works with XP again. I generally use VMR9 anyway, it was just something I noticed while messing around a little today. It's nice to breathe a little more life into MPC-HC though... in relation to XP.
Someone at VideoHelp also noticed D3D fullscreen no longer works with XP and that also seemed to happen at the same time (from version 1.7.9), so I thought maybe that'd get it working again too, but alas.....
Not that I use D3D fullscreen myself anyway, but I thought I'd mention it.
Thanks.

The new internal audio renderer is pretty cool, I'd been wanting WASAPI+exclusive mode for a while. I have a problem with it though - it doesn't detect an audio device when speakers are set to "Stereo Direct" mode, though other ASIO and WASAPI programs have no such issues. It works fine when speakers aren't in stereo direct. I also have a suggestion: could we get an option to change the buffer size? 200ms seems unnecessarily large.
