Just check the "Exclusive" box.
Is it "fixed" in 1.7.10?
In 1.7.9 and 1.7.9 nightlies it was downmixing even in exclusive mode (not bitstreaming).

Why is audio output at 32-bits even when the audio track is 24-bits?
sneaker_ger
1st December 2015, 17:37
Are you talking about LAV Audio? If you have any kind of post-processing (like mixing) activated, it might output higher bitdepth than the source.
Megalith
1st December 2015, 17:43
I see. I'm using LAV audio in combination with the Internal Audio Renderer. Mixing is turned off in LAV but the Internal Audio Renderer has two "processors" running, matrix and limiter. I guess it's because I'm running a stereo setup, which is forcing a downmix and resulting in the higher bitdepth.

I think what you refer to is the automatic setting of the correct speaker configuration on the audio interface depending on the channel configuration of the source audio. In ReClock there is an option "Set matching speaker configuration" that achieves just that. With that option set, ReClock will overrule the channel configuration in the Windows control panel. I don't think this functionality is currently available in MPC-HC, but maybe one of the devs can chime in.

That option has never really worked well in ReClock, and is not needed in exclusive mode.

Well, in my situation (Windows 7, nVidia HDMI audio set to 2 channels in control pannel) it works like a charm with ReClock set to Wasapi exclusive. My AVR detects the correct channel count every time. With the new MPC-HC audio renderer in exclusive mode however, the audio is always matrixed to 2 channels.

With the bug MPC-HC has on lav video/audio/splitter filter info on the formats tab in high DPI UHD 4K resolutions, heres what one of them looks like when all is well when the lav config is executed outside of MPC-HC and just by using the LAV configurator:
http://i66.tinypic.com/2gxnzpf.png
Now this is what happens with the MPC-HC nightlies currently when you are in MPC-HC, do filters, lav, choose one of the three lav ones, goto the format tab and it gets squished up in high DPI and 4K situations like so:

Hello,
I have troubles getting an USB DVB-T stick (http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00105805.html) to work.
I know it works because I managed to have some channels from another .ini config file (from another computer with another dvb-t tuner card). But like there are some differences (not the same region), I need to rescan channels.
Unfortunately, channels are found but the list is not "written", it stays blank.
Look at this screenshot (for 666000 Hz as example):

I remember Kasper and Underground looking at DVB stuff so if you can help... Else I'll try to use tracker but I hate it.

Since Underground doesn't read D9, it'll be more productive to report it at our tracker. That way XPC1000 could also assist (since he's doing some tweaks to DVB as well).

Thanks for pointing that out, but it still doesn't work. A 5.1 FLAC still plays in stereo even though LAV's audio decoder shows 5.1 decoding with no downmixing enabled.

Hey, can I make a suggestion to the internal audio renderer?
When playing a video in slow motion, I'd like to have the pitch lowered instead of trying to preserve it.
Stereodude

So, maybe I'm missing something, but isn't the point of WASAPI to output the audio as is?
I play a 5.1 FLAC and the internal renderer in MPC-HC 1.7.10 shows this:
http://i.imgur.com/C3Y5w8m.png
My Denon 4520 has these capabilities:
http://i.imgur.com/MOvIdzh.png
So, why does it downmix to 2 channel? Yes, I set Windows 7 to Stereo in the speaker configuration, but so what... WASAPI can override that. Foobar2k does just that when using WASAPI.
Even when I set the speaker configuration to 5.1 in Windows 7 it still doesn't pass the audio as is.
http://i.imgur.com/4u4OSqF.png
Am I the odd one or did the devs not understand what people wanted when we've been clamoring for WASAPI output in MPC-HC?

There's been a number of commits made to Sanear that I believe have yet to be added to MPC. The below commit made a couple of months ago allows for a "Ignore System Channel Mixer" option to be set which would be what you're after.
https://github.com/alexmarsev/sanear/commit/8e14705e1421851235d7a369c8bc27ea6698414e
Perhaps Alex or one of the other devs can comment on your second issue. Perhaps MPC-HC devs could commit the latest sanear code into the nightly?

Hello, I am experiencing several issues with the playback of a DVD in MPC-HC. Have uploaded part of the VIDEO_TS folder for testing: part1 (http://wikisend.com/download/648802/VIDEO_TS.7z.001) (60Mb), part 2 (http://wikisend.com/download/246710/VIDEO_TS.7z.002) (57 Mb). They will probably need the latest 7-zip version for unpacking (the official one which was released last month).
This is what happens when EVR is the renderer and when using the internal LAV software decoder (but it does not affect only EVR or only the software decoder). I am opening the folder using File -> Open DVD/BD and then navigating to the VIDEO_TS folder.
- if the Internal Audio renderer is enabled, and Exclusive mode is enabled, then when switching from the main menu to the "Contenuti speciali" page, whatever the last few audio samples were presented when I clicked on the "Contenuti speciali" entry, are now getting repeated continuously; this does not happen when Exclusive mode is not enabled;
- if the Internal Audio renderer is enabled, then after the copyright notice is presented, the first three seconds of the studio logo are being displayed slower than real-time; this does not happen when using the default DirectSound output, for instance;
- if QuickSync is selected as the video decoder, then after selecting "Contenuti speciali" -> "Trailer cinematografico originale" -> the aspect ratio of the video playing is not correct, the image is squeezed vertically; letting it play and then return to the previous menu, the menu is now squeezed vertically as well;
- if QuickSync is selected as the video decoder, with "Enable Adaptive HW Deinterlacing" enabled, then deinterlacing and IVTC is performed by the decoder and MPC-HC should not try and do it too; however, MPC-HC is clearly trying to do it: the copyright notice text and the menu text suffer from being deinterlaced; the studio logo has stepping artifacts and frame cadence issues can be noticed too

Eric Gur from Intel put a lot of his spare time and effort into creating this component, and it wasn't even his department! Shame on Intel management for not assigning some video engineers to create an official decoding component. I know they're concentrating on H.265 right now, but in general I think they've done a very poor job with QuickSync.
NikosD
23rd December 2015, 19:12
The API used by QuickSync decoder of Eric is MediaSDK from Intel, which is mainly used for transcoding (aka HW decoding and encoding)
Eric made a difference by implementing the HW decoding component only, but it was like opening a way for HW decoding in general for Intel HW back on 2011, the year of SandyBridge and the first pure HW fixed-function decoder from Intel.
The implementation and maturity of Intel's DXVA drivers nowadays have surpassed MediaSDK QuickSync decoder, but still missing some unique features.
Like WMV3 decoding for SandyBridge (rare cases), 4K VC-1 support for Ivy and better (rare cases) and D3D11 support for all iGPUs, meaning no need to connect the iGPU to a monitor or build a fake display in order to work, using Windows 8 or better.
Also, like NVCUVID from Nvidia, there are clips that have issues with MediaSDK but not with DXVA and the opposite.
I would keep it as an alternative HW decoder just in case.

Anyone willing to look over the internal audio renderer issues at least, then? Going through DVD menus in MPC-HC is a nasty experience when using exclusive mode, and that playback slowdown could point to some other issues.

I use it because I play .MKV files much more often than DVDs. It'll get better, give the original developer and the MPC-HC team some time. The original code was never meant for DVD menu playback.
In the meantime, just don't use it.

What does it do for you that you can't do with the LAV audio filter & Directsound? It doesn't override the Windows speaker selection and output non bitstreamed "wave" / PCM audio as is, the biggest thing people wanted from WASAPI output...

If thats the case, then thats a very poor development decision to implement this function knowing it badly regressed DVD menu playback - especially given this was released as stable given the stable release recently. At best it should have been kept into a non master trunk to not regress important functions like DVDs.
There's too much focus from the open source community on supporting video for use cases involving pirate type rips. There's too little focus on actually owned, disc based content and having it just work. This is a classic example of preferences to mainly support pirate like content that is based off rips.
And part of a healthy software project is talk about defects and user frustrations. One of the greatest reasons why software projects fail is when developers and or their fanbois get too sensitive and closed off to what the users are saying. MPC, MPC-HC, MPC-BE are awesome projects and certainly have my respect and thanks but they arent perfect. Helping it be better is about fairly talking about problems with the software.

We have reported the problem couple of weeks ago but never did and won't talk like this. Just wait until it gets fixed or fork them and fix it by yourself. If it was an easy fix these guys would have been done it within hours.
Also, you can gently report the problem to Alex on github and asking him to create an another stable release if the current status of the code is good for that: https://github.com/alexmarsev/sanear/issues
But don't await anything when you talk/act like this.

Ah yes, the last line defensive argument when talking about missing features or broken features in an open source project. The old "If you don't like it, change the source code yourself." defense. As to somehow imply that if I don't have the time or programming skill to do it myself I shouldn't complain about the current state...

Why do you assume an .MKV file is a pirate rip? My DVD/Blu-ray collection is at my home in Pennsylvania. I live and work in Virginia, and there's no way I'm going to haul my physical collection around. I do my own rips and convert my DVDs to x264 to save space.
In any case, the devs didn't take any functionality away. Play your discs the same way you did before the new internal renderer was introduced.

It's rather simple, you either read changelogs and follow development in progress or you don't state things without checking first.

Mate I dont want to take the thread too much off topic but I'll provide a quick response. I can see what your thinking, but in some countries, doing what you suggest is actually illegal and *is in fact* considered piracy even under fair use for individual needs on what you own in other formats. Other countries are different and it is legal for fair use. I don't like software patents and DRM generally, but the law is what it is regardless of individuals opinions about it.
Also, we all know that most of the distributed pirate rips are gunna be MKV and MP4s and avis. The open source community has a great tendency to prioritise support/fix/enhancements for those formats as opposed to working on say bluray disc playback. The great majority of MKV/MP4/avi clips that ever existed are pirate copies that go beyond fair use in liberal countries that allow for fair use.
Cheers

It seems like you have no idea what you are talking about.
Renderer development is always difficult.
* The complexity of something to develop is not a free ticket to throw out common Release Management principles. In fact, its even more of a reason to stick to sound release management decision making.
* Marking builds as stable and offering a production release, which knowingly includes a major regression for important use cases, is very poor Release Management. In professional circles the person doing that - especially if they argued it was hard for them to develop the code - would be laughed out of the office as a clueless cowboy who doesnt belong in professional circles.
* If new features are known to cause regressions, then what should be done under proper Release Management is either to mark it experimental, not make it default and have warnings that its experimental and entirely at the users risks etcetc, or to keep it as a separate build/source trunk until its matured. Or, withhold the stable production release and go back into a new dev/test cycle to get the regressions fixed.
* Stable builds released to prod should have stable functionality and stable defaults
* I get that your after the feature and your excited about it, but again having user fanbois isnt good reason to abandon sound release management practices.
* You dont need to follow a formal release methodology like a waterfall one or an agile one necessarily - its just what works for the team and to stick to the method that everyone agreed to use. Not to undermine it.
* I submit that people who think otherwise, are actually the ones who have no idea

It is in fact not the default audio renderer. The internal audio renderer has existed for a long time, and has been broken for a long time.
Now finally someone started working on a replacement, which takes time and testing, and yet people keep complaining that its not perfect immediately? Jeez.
Open-source projects don't have dedicated testers or people doing QA on every feature, often the only way to find the remaining flaws in something is to expose it to the users and let them test the aspects they are interested in.
You make it sound like every single problem is known to every developer immediately. Its impossible to test *everything*, especially in Multimedia where a lot also depends on the files or discs being played.
Everyone has different focus areas, not everyone plays DVDs with MPC-HC, in fact from my experience I doubt the majority does in fact.
Also, if you ever worked in professional development, you should know that the "ideal" situation never actually happens.
Often you are driven by deadlines or financial demands which in the end will cause you to weigh the enhancements against the known flaws. A "perfect" software product just doesn't exist anywhere.

My only problem with the new internal audio renderer is that it doesn't work with madVR (I think it's a problem of synchronization between audio and video).
However, I have no problem with my laptop that use EVR-CP (internal audio renderer stereo - exclusive mode).

I activate the new internal audio renderer by choosing "8: Internal Audio Renderer" in the dropdown in Playback > Output > Audio Renderer, is it correct ? Because this is where the problem start.
Then in Internal Filters > Audio Renderer, in Device, I have System Default, I checked Exclusive mode and unchecked Allow bitstreaming.
Audio Switcher isn't enabled.
Video and Audio are ok during playback and when seeking during playback. However, when I pause, the audio enters a loop. Resuming playback or exiting MPC-HC doesn't break the loop, but playing another file stops the previous audio playback to start the new one (with the same problems).
I've only tested with exclusive mode, I should test it again without.
EDIT : Just tested without exclusive mode and it works. Maybe something is missing in my madVR settings to allow audio playback in exclusive mode.

In a 3D BluRay you have two streams: normal AVC for one eye and an MVC addition for the second eye. I assume MPC-HC can only play the AVC stream, at least out-of-the-box. That's why it appears to be a 2D file.
If you want 3D either:
1. re-encode these files to a single side-by-side/top-bottom stream to make it work in 2D players using e.g. BD3D2MK3D (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=170828) or
2. use Stereoscopic Player (http://www.3dtv.at/products/player/Index_en.aspx)

MPC-HC usually decodes using LAV FIlters, and they will probably omit the MVC difference, only decoding the AVC base.

Hi Devs; and everyone;
I wanted to make a request regarding a feature that I hope to see added in a future version. I don't often make requests around here, but sometimes they turn out to be handy
So I was watching a show on my PC (connected to my TV) and a scene popped up in the show that I didn't want my nephew to see (under the age of 15). Video was in 1920x800, so I have the subtitles set up in the bottom black bar. Instead of exiting full-screen exclusive mode (running through Madvr) --> minimizing --> muting --> then going back when the scene was over... and then SVP has to reinitialize itself... I was hoping a shorcut key (user-customized) could be added to heavily blur or darken (overlay) a certain section of the screen as well as mute the player.
So for example for me, the blur-zone (blur strength can be customized) would be the majority of the screen except the area where the subtitles show up (sometimes it's important to read what is being said during such moments). Be it scenes too violent or scenes too sexual for minor audiences.
I think this is a great idea ;) Thanks for a great program, you don't have to do this, but it would be greatly appreciated if you did (boy it would be embarrassing if the feature is already there and I've just typed all of this for nothing). :o
