Or just simply run ipconfig /flushdns in a command prompt first. It's the fastest and least intrusive way that might fix the problem.

Old bug: MPC-HC don't wait the sound system (audiodg.exe) initialize

Demand:
HDD (non-SDD)
Vista+
Not use Windows Startup sound (No any system sound  I like mute)
Not play any sound after system startup (ie.youtube, music, games:o)

Open MPC-HC
drag n drop video file(video+audio) to MPC-HC, First X seconds out of sync and no sound

PS:audiodg.exe does not exist in the Task Manager when your system does not play any sound
PS:sound system(audiodg.exe) is initialize(Read files from HDD) for the first time when play any sound

Hi,

In order to avoid Windows 7 upmixing stereo to 5.1 which prevents the AVR to do any further NEo6/Dolby/etc... processing on music, I need to keep the windows speaker's configuration to stereo even though my configuration is 5.1.

Bitstreaming multichannel audio from films is still OK but when the audio is LPCM, and even though lav audio outputs all the channels, the windows mixer downmixes to 2.0 and the other channels are lost.

I understand that there is no other solution but to use a WASAPI audio renderer.

I discovered by accident that MPC Audio Renderer supports wasapi (which is not at all advertised on the various forums). It looks far more adequate that the reclock way for just handling wasapi (I use the smooth motion feature of madVR for video).

MPC audio renderer does globally what is expected but I experience major issues :
1) Film freeze when navigating in the movie
2) Switching to a DTS-HD MA makes a freeze
3) The "use wasapi" tickbox is always checked and disabling it is not kept the next time mpc-hc is launched

There are no issues at all when using the default audio renderer

Before I try to further characterize the bugs and open a ticket, is MPC Audio Renderer still experimental or is it actively maintained (which I really hope).

Thanks a lot for yor work.

Kind regards.

(Configuration : Windows 7x64 - MPC-HC 1.6.8.7259 / LAV Filters / madVR 32 bits)

I have a question about the maximum texture resolution's "desktop" setting for subtitles.
With multiple displays, is the desktop setting always the resolution of the primary display, or does it vary based on which display is playing the video?

It is repaired in the mpc be svn builds. Though, it still mixes to the default format, so your problem wouldn't be solved.

DVB-C support should be added to the changelog too ! At least where 6900 symbol rate (and QAM64 & QAM 256 modulation) are used (e.g. Germany ):)

Too bad that Tv channels (like any item from "The Playlist" too) (Still ?:p) can't be selected / used with a remote control = keyboard

After almost 1 and a half month since the last stable build, we decided to release 1.6.8.

This release focuses mainly on improving DVB-T support alongside with the usual bugfixes.

Highlights of this release:

MPC-HC can now support DVB-T2 broadcast and display EPG information for Freeview (UK free-to-air channels). The scan feature has also been improved for better channel detection.
The normalization algorithm used by the Audio Switcher has been improved to avoid annoyingly big volume drops.
A bug that resulted in missing PGS or DVB subtitles has been fixed.
There was a memory leak in some cases when playing files with chapters.
We fixed a bug that could have made MPC-HC slow to close with audio keeping playing for a while.

You can download the new version here (http://mpc-hc.org/downloads/). For the complete changes see the changelog (http://mpc-hc.org/changelog/).

And if you're interested in looking at commits since the last stable you can see it here (https://github.com/mpc-hc/mpc-hc/compare/1.6.7...1.6.8). We had 303 commits by 20 authors. :)

it seems mpc-hc can not associate files for non-administrator users in win7. when i run mpc-hc under a non-administrator user in win7, if i click the modify button under options - player - formats, it prompt me to enter the password of an administrator user, then i enter it and press ok, a new option dialog popup and i can change file associate there, the problem is, change made here only affects the administrator user, the associating for media files for current non-administrator user is never changed at all

this bug exists in mpc-hc 1.6.7.7114 x32 at least. os version is win7sp1

It needs administrator access to create essential registry keys. Once those are in place, it should be possible to associate for a regular user.

Can someone explain to me why MPC-HC cannot auto jump to the next playlist file on a BD-disc automatically where-as the latest MPC-BE has no problem doing this? It's what's preventing me to switch to MPC-HC full-time. Example:

Open MPC-HC then do CTRL+D to open BD/DVD and it automatically picks the biggest track per Lav Splitter. Then I choose the first .mpls file in the BDMV directory, in this example it's 00013.mpls (I can do it this way or just double click it or drag it to the open MPC-HC window and it begins to play no problem.) Now when I setup MPC-HC to do After Playback-Play next in the folder, instead of jumping to 00014.mpls like MPC-BE does without a problem, it just says No more media in the current folder. (which is obviously not the case).

I also made sure to check the option in Tweaks-Open next/previous file in folder on "skip back/forward" when there is only one item in playlist.

Am I missing something obvious or is this just the way that MPC-HC is currently working and MPC-BE devs figured out some magic to make it work this way with BD discs?

The discs in question are my The Big Bang Theory blu-ray discs (I have the complete series)

Kasper, thanks that worked. Now I have to try to get back to how I had it setup before and see if the problem persists.

Edit: finally input all my setting back and things are now working well. I guess over time something messed up, I had usually used the INI method will stick with registry version for now since it's very simple to backup settings now. Thanks again!

I'm having trouble playing DVD's created with TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5. The title order is not respected (even more so when using the seek bar for navigation, it seems to further confuse MPC-HC). For example, it'll loop between titles 4-6, when there are 8 in total. Or, it will mess up the order and jump from title 5 to 4. No issues with any other software/hardware player.
Using v.1.6.8.7417, Win 8 x64 - I attach the DVD files with no VOB's. (edit: files here (http://www.mediafire.com/?zp8osocr24v0wn2))

Why does playback continue if I use the Play-Go To... function while playing DVD files? Is that a bug, or is it working as intended (if so, why?)? When I play anything else, playback correctly stops at the frame I jump to.

Unfortunately this is a limitation of the DVD navigator, the same is happening if you use the seekbar. We can't seek unless the DVD is playing, it might be possible to detect when seeking is done and then pause again but that is non-trivial.

What happened to the "D3D Fullscreen" mode for madVR? Since a view builds it is greyed out. I remember this mode beeing removed for madVR in the past, but was brought back since some people (like myself) used to use it most of the time.

Is there a technical reason for removing it again?

Yes, the reason is that madVR already handles D3D fullscreen internally. You can notice this by the "exclusive" messages in the OSD which indicate when it switches between normal fullscreen and D3D fullscreen.

At the point that I removed the option the only thing that it was doing was having madVR use a separate window. If there is an advantage to that that I'm not aware of then let me know and I'll see how we can fix it.

This change is part of a bigger change for D3D fullscreen for the VMR9 and EVR-CP renderers. They now support switching between windowed and D3DFullscreen during playback and can be toggled in the same way as normal fullscreen.

There is an advantage:

With a dual screen setup you can have the interface on display 1, while playing the video on display 2 (or vice versa). There were just a few people like me, using the mpc-hc this way:

http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1486489&postcount=16660
http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1486615&postcount=16669

But if it's too problematic to reintroduce this option because of the changes for the VMR9/EVR-CP fullscreen behavior, we'll have to live with it.

Oh ok.
But maybe performance while playing DVD files could be improved? I jump forward a lot while watching stuff, and when it comes to DVDs, it's really really slow, almost like if I had a decade old CPU. Definitely not a disk problem, btw.

Rather than reintroducing the useless D3DFullscreen option for madVR, maybe we should introduce some kind of pop-out player bar like the playlist. Which elements from the interface are you using on your primary display?

Tom Keller
27th June 2013, 11:56
That could be a problem, since i use a lot of different interface elements. Mostly the playlist... or some of the 'play' options, like the filters list for configuring (or - in case of playback problems - watching the usage of) DirectShow filters, which don't have their own tray icon... and for switching between different audio- and subtitle streams... sometimes the 'navigate' elements too for skipping unwanted Video-DVD content.

Since display 2 (= my tv) is in another room, i use the remote of my tv tuner card to control the main functionality of the player via Girder. But the number of buttons on the remote is limited and most of them are used for primal playback functionality and navigation in DVD menus. That's why i have to set up some thing manually in between (or during) the playback of files and therefore it's more practical for me to have most of the interface elements at hand without switching between window and fullscreen mode.

But (as i said): if it's not possible or too difficult to reintroduce the option, i'll find a way to deal with it. I already did the same with the options dialog, which (after some code changes in the past) didn't show up anymore on the primary display, while playing back a video in D3DFullscreen mode on the secondary display.

@ Octo-puss:

You did not explain if "playing a DVD" means a physical DVD disc or a DVD-Video like file structure on harddisk. If it is the former, slow seeking may not be much surprise:

When you seek on a real DVD (a disc in an optical drive), the laser needs to find the new position on the disc which will certainly take a while; industrially manufactured DVDs and DVD+R have an advantage over DVD-R regarding seeking, e.g. DVD+R tracks use a higher groove wobble frequency and phase modulation (ADIP) instead of the land pre-pit technique on DVD-R for addressing. Especially in faster PC drives, seeking on DVD-R can be quite unreliable because pre-pits are so small that finding them at a high speed is a matter of luck.

I said "DVD files", which can obviously still look misleading. I meant DVD copied to PC, played by running video_ts.ifo file.

You can already pop out the playlist before going to fullscreen, so at least you're still able to do that.

Hello,

Since MPC-HC audio renderer should currently be avoided as advised in balloon comment, I use Reclock as a WASAPI exclusive renderer for LPCM streams to the HDMI output(without reclocking anything). It effectively bypasses the Windows Mixer (volume control, channel mixing, 32bits float conversion and dithering ...).

I just gave a try for mpc-hc to read a wav audio file (44,1kHz - 16 bits stereo) using LAV as splitter and decoder.

Reclock properties confirm the the bitperfect output through WASAPI but surprise : the mpc-hc volume control modifies the sound level.

Same behaviour with a AAC stream from a film decoded by LAV as 6 channel LPCM.

How is it possible since mpc-hc should rely on the windows mixer for that purpose ? Does it mean that bitperfect cannot be achieved for LPCM streams in mpc-hc ? How to bypass mpc-hc audio processing ?

Thank you for your feedback !

Kind regards.

Why? LAV, while good, not the only filters out there. Someone may use something else and still prefer to keep things simple.

But taking this step further, personally I'd like to see MPC-HC build where decoders, splitters, AudioSwitcher, anything under "settings-playback" category (includes evr-cp and everything related), web interface and possibly something else removed completely. So it will be a GUI where LAV and madvr are hardcoded (but not bundled) :D

The ICL13 builds are postponed for the time being, until a few bugs are fixed in the compiler.

We use Microsoft filter for online sources File Source (URL) (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd375642(v=vs.110).aspx) and this is how this filter works. It shouldn't cache all the data, but it does and I think 4GB limit is because you are using FAT32 which doesn't allow larger files.

The best solution for you is using LAV Source Splitter for http. You need to add this to register. Past it to notepad and save as "http.reg" then double click on it and that's all. Note that you need to have LAV installed ;)
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http]
"Source Filter"="{B98D13E7-55DB-4385-A33D-09FD1BA26338}"

FWIW, you could try using DVB directly in MPC-HC it is not that bad ;)

Is there any way to use internal LAV Splitter Source for http?

Since DXVA1 support has been removed from MPC-HC yesterday, I made a modified build of MPCVideoDec for Windows XP users. It only does DXVA decoding of H.264 and VC-1, no other formats and no software decoding. To use it simply add it as an external filter. There is no need to register the filter.

Download:

Modifications:
* Changed name and GUID.
* Removed software decoding.
* Disabled some unneeded ffmpeg code to reduce binary size.
