Not every commit means a new nightly.

Actually it does. Whenever there is a change in the main repository, there will be a new build the next night (hence, nightly).

The key word is "next". The next build will come a few hours later after the RSS update. So GitHub's RSS is quite useless here.

@GCRaistlin: https://nightly.mpc-hc.org/ works fine on IE8. There is an issue with redirection from http to https which returns to main page, we will look into it.

EDIT: Issue is fixed.

The page I get in WebSite-Watcher (WSW) now.

Yes, the main page was last changed yesterday, nightly page haven't. But like @kasper93 already said, issue has been located and will be fixed ASAP.

Hi,

Is there a way to change the height position of Blu-ray PGS subtitles ? I tried to change the VSFilter position settings but it only applies to text based subtitles and not to bitmap based subtitles like PGS.

What other renderers does MPC-HC support? I am looking for alternative to madVR that is also of decent quality, one much better than MPC-HC's Enhanced Video Renderer, which sucks big-time IMHO. Maybe I should just stick to madVR's lower-quality settings..?

EVR is not made by the MPC-HC team, but by Microsoft. And there are several people who don't dislike it as much as you seem to (any specific reasons?).

In general, MPC-HC supports all installed DirectShow renderers of modern Windows and DirectX versions. I remember it did work with some additionally installed OpenGL renderer too, but people with more experience advised against it...

EVR CP is a modified version of EVR and that's not done by microsoft.

maybe haali is still a good renderer. i haven't used it in a lot of year. and i have no clue if it is still maintained.

there a a lot of reason to avoid EVR. EVR scaling quality depends on your GPU and it altered by the GPU too.

MPC-HC EVR-CP can use bilinear and bicubic. these are scaling algorithms that should work on any hardware but there are clearly better ones out there.

EVR is working as it is and that is already everything most people need/want.

the supported renderer in MPC-HC are listed in the options.

I'd vote for madVR with low quality settings, 'cause it can offer a lot of other things (hq rgb conversion, freq changer, 3dlut, etc) at the same time.

Hi guys, I wanna ask something. On Options->Subtitles->Default Style, there's "Position subtitles relative to the video frame". It have 3 modes. I guess I can understand how it works when it checked or unchecked. How about the other one? thanks :)

With the closing of SlySoft, it's going to become increasingly difficult, if not impossable to play UHD-Blu-ays on an un-licensed version.
I would pay to have a licensed version or at least one that would play the UHD-Blu-rays.
Who else would be interested in this ?

Question - can I make MPC buffer the video before playing it?

I bought mini-pc recently so it will be a little "streamer" that I can watch my PC content in HD on my TV. Problem is, apparently it can't play 10bit 1080p videos very well. I download codecs and even tried different players. The only players that even opens it is MPC, the problem is it's super laggy. So I thought maybe if it'll buffer it before playing it won't be laggy anymore and play it normally.

I also want to say that I tried to play the video through wi-fi, USB, and even from the mini-pc itself and it was laggy in all of the cases.

I don't really know if buffering will solve my problem, but I'm willing to try. So, is it possible for MPC to buffer?

LAV Splitter > Max Queue Packets
Increase that value to make MPC-HC buffer more data.

But your "streamer" probably hasn't got a powerful enough CPU.

ffdshow has useful filters such as equalizer, resampler, channel mixer, etc. It complements MPC-HC nicely. I figured out how to use ffdshow filters for MP3, MP4, DVD. It's very nice. But I couldn't find how I can use ffdshow filters for CD, FLAC, WMA. Is this fixed in the system to use built-in codecs, instead of ffdshow?

I have a similar mini-PC setup streaming from a shared drive over Wi-Fi. Make sure MPC-HC video hardware decoding is enabled and set for whatever is available on your PC.

ffdshow seem deprecated, which is a shame. I'd like to load VST plugins alongside MPC-HC, but that seems only possible in x86 builds.

All videos recorded by my smartphone in Portrait orientation are opened in Landscape by MPC-HC.

I think the cause is that MPC doesn't obey the "Rotation: 90°" specification of the video stream.

As far I can see, this is very old issue... http://forum.inmatrix.com/index.php?showtopic=14171

Are there plans to fix it?

LigH
9th March 2016, 09:04
The player will usually only display the output of the decoder. If splitter and decoder don't respect such flags in the container or video stream, the player won't know about it either, because the player is usually only "the window containing the renderer with additional controls". You may blame rather the splitter or decoder you used in MPC-HC; if you enabled the internal filters, that would be LAV Filters.

huhn
9th March 2016, 09:08
the issue should be the used renderer not lavfilter.

i wouldn't be shocked if this works with madVR.

LigH

Ah, OK, sorry. True, a renderer can probably rotate much easier, especially when using GPU surfaces to project the video on.

I am not so sure, don't know the interna, but I believe to remember that Windows 10 protects file extension assignments even more, making it harder for applications to change them properly, requiring manual intervention... Others may know more than me.

Setting the file associations from the MPC-HC options should create the missing ProgID keys. Once they exist, Default Programs should work properly.

I always firstly set all the file associations from within the app and then go to Default programs with the same result, empty keys.

So, your comment helps isolate the issue in the way those specific extensions are associated by MPC-HC.

*** FEATURE REQUEST ***

I have a multi-monitor setup (one of which is an HDTV) and have an issue with MPC-HC when all three displays are enabled. I like having Windows Slide Show running so that it changes my desktop backgrounds at regular intervals. I do this mainly because sometimes I leave my HDTV with the desktop open (No task bar or icons etc just the background) and because it is a plasma TV it avoids image retention/burn in and besides, I like rotating my photos.

Anyhow the issue is that when the backgrounds change I sometimes get a glitch/frame drop during video playback. Despite having a fairly high spec setup (I do use MadVR with quite aggressive settings though).

What I would like is for MPC-HC to disable Windows Slide Show when playing a video and enable it on stop (or perhaps on exit I don't know which would be better). The workaround I am using at the moment is a hotkey to toggle between Windows Slide Show enabled and disabled. But sometimes I forget to toggle it so I run the risk of image retention on my plasma.

How hard would it be to put this in as an option?

Here I found some issue that might be considered to be fixed
- it forgot the downloaded subtitles after click refresh, the checkbox appear again from the downloaded subtitles.
- supported language tooltip from opensubtitles is too long.
- I have local sub .ass, tried save subtitles function. It always suggest to save it as .srt. Would be good if it tried to save with original extension.

Hi MPC-Developers

Is it possible to implement a feature to select streams (audio, subs) in the control-bar like MPC-Be does?

And when possible, to select Editions from a mkv file.
Selecting editions needs much clicks, so it would be nice to have a button in the control-bar to select directly the mkv-editions
(and chapters too).

The TrayIcon from LAV is ok, but it would be faster within MPC.
(navigate with a right click on MPC-screen is the same like the TrayIcon)

I'm using the 3/13/2016 nightly of MPC-HC and have all my video files associated with it. When I double-click on a movie in Explorer, MPC-HC starts then immediately crashes and closes. The second time I double-click, the movie plays just fine. Anyone else seeing this behavior, or have any idea what's causing it?

It picks the longest playlist. Some time back I suggested it be modified to look for the .inf file AnyDVD HD leaves in the root of the drive to find the correct playlist for titles that have playlist obfuscation, but the request went nowhere.

Hello,

I have a problem with MPC-HC and tags, which are included in a mkv-video: test video 618kB (http://akapuma.info/test/paul.mkv)

The problem is, that I can't see the tags, if I'm using the internal mkv-splitter, or if I'm using the external LAV splitter. If I'm using the haali media splitter, I have no audio, because it's opus audio. Here is a picture with the tags, with haali media splitter: picture (http://akapuma.info/test/paul.jpg).

I made some tests:

MPC-HC with internal splitter: no tags
MPC-HC with external LAV splitter: no tags
MPC-HC with haali media splitter: with tags, but no opus audio
MPC-BE with internal spitter: works fine
MPC-BE with external LAV splitter: no tags

Best regards

I noticed most BK2 (BIK) files cannot be opened by MPC-HC. Some can be opened, others produce only sound withtout video, but most cannot be loaded at all. I know Bink Smacker RAD Video Tools can play those files, but without the amazing benefit of madVR. I tried EVR renderer and it still did not work, which means madVR is not the problem. I assume MPC-HC is the problem... Or is it LAV Filters?

LigH
23rd March 2016, 15:49
It's probably LAV Filters. Bink is not really an openly documented format, I believe. According to Wikipedia, Bink Video (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bink_Video) was once reverse-engineered by the ffmpeg team, so libavcodec should support decoding ... but possibly only some specific out of the many different encoding technologies. If RAD Game Tools enhanced this format in the meantime, there may now be new formats not yet supported by the old state of reverse engineering. I would even suspect a kind of content protection in some games, encrypting the video stream partially, who knows...

nevcairiel

Bink Video 2 is not supported. In general for all those obscure game formats, if they don't work, they don't work. They are not openly documented formats, and there isn't much one can do about that.
