there seems to be a slight issue with the new audio renderer and I suspect with its exclusive mode. when I play a file that way in mpc-hc and afterwards try to stream a video file via browser, then that video wont start playing. in order to have it start in need to get into task manager and manually close the audiodg.exe process. only after that it works again. although it can still happen that I have to close that audiodg.exe file again each time when I want to open another video in my browser. sometimes I do, sometimes I dont. but this does not happen as long as I havent used mpc-hc with the new audio renderer in exclusive mode before. maybe there is some problem with the exclusive mode not freeing the device properly?

hi guys, i always used lav audio decoder, but today i decided to get rid of the annoying volume variations, and reading this thread i read that i just need to install ac3filter.
the discussion about this starts here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1732437#post1732437

already done all that and left only PCM checked, after this LAV filter returned, but why this happens?
the volume problem is gone now, but i want to understand if anything changed for the worst.
is ac3filter doing anything more than it should? i see a lot of options already checked by default, lav filters always worked fine here.
here is the settings, the last one is in lav decoder
http://i.imgur.com/zwhvCSZ.jpg

is there anything that i should check or uncheck?
i use stereo speakers.
i want to understand why i just left pcm checked, and why lav decoder appeared again after doing that.
other thing i want to know is which one is decoding the audio, ac3filter or lav.
also since i did this, and audio is much better in volume, should i disable the normalization in mpc?
thanks in advance.

I am having trouble displaying subtitles with XySubFilter Beta3.

Here are my settings:

http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q760/Warner306/MPC-HC/6-Subtitles_zpsc06d0ad6.png

http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/q760/Warner306/MPC-HC/3-Output_zpssp2ypztu.png

Can anyone tell me why I have to manually enable subtitles using these settings? They won't appear, otherwise. The internal subtitle renderer works fine.

Edit: To clarify, the same settings are working on another installation.

Hi,

first of all, thanks for the new version to all developers.

My question is: Are there any plans to reimplement the following feature, which I am missing since version 1.6.9:

Keep the main window with the control elements open on the windows desktop / first monitor, while the movie is played in fullscreen on the second monitor, using madvr as video renderer ?

This dual monitor setup was possible until version 1.6.8 and was activated by the option "D3D Fullscreeen" together with madvr. Starting with version 1.6.9 the option "D3D Fullscreen" is greyed out and ignored when madvr is selected.

The diffs of langs between TW and CN are some terminology words, and the basic grammars are the same.
Simp Chin is just simplified char from Trad Chin.

And all in all, the ruler of Transifex, that be able to translate only one lang, I think it's incorrect.

Sorry, I do not want a political nature relating to the translation of software on the discussion! At least now Simplified Chinese language translation does not require new entrants.
PS: In fact, no one is in charge of Traditional Chinese translation of that time I also want to participate in assistance, but think this is somehow Simplified Chinese!

Because when I play video with 48 KHz, LAV and Internal Audio Renderer still show 44100 (that's what in my mind about how to check it). I don't know if it's known issue or not. A few quick questions:

- What is the difference between selecting "8: Internal Audio Renderer" and "2: Speakers (...)" as "Audio Renderer" in Output settings? Do both provide bit-exact output using WASAPI Exclusive?
- Is bit-exact multichannel output possible at all using the internal audio renderer, or do you have to use ReClock still to do that? In particular, what is the case regarding DTS-HD MA?

Hi, feature suggestion please. IMHO it would be useful to have an auto post processing menu on the right click OSD along with the existing video, audio and subtitle menus. Something like VLC that is simple and automatic - settings say of post processing disabled, low, medium, high. Advanced users can always fiddle with filters. This would be just some auto presets that work for helping make lower res and lower bit rate content better via post processing.

PS: Im patiently waiting for a commit into GIT so I can test the OSD font for high DPI situations in say 4K UHD displays. As reported earlier, currently in high DPI with UHD resolutions its way to small to see things like the CTRL J info. This is fixed in MPC-BE, not sure how easy it is to merge into MPC-HC.

Make a shader preset, bind a key to Next Shader Preset, then use that key to cycle through the shaders you want applied. Shaders are also available on the Play menu.

The problem is newer MediaInfo doesn't compile with our configuration. We use very stripped MI only with text output. It was reported to the author and hopefully will be fixed soon.

Down sampling will be handled by Internal Audio Renderer if needed.

The option in Audio Switcher works only for 16-bit input. In other case it will not have any effect.

- What is the difference between selecting "8: Internal Audio Renderer" and "2: Speakers (...)" as "Audio Renderer" in Output settings? Do both provide bit-exact output using WASAPI Exclusive?

No, only "Internal Audio Renderer" support exclusive mode. "2: Speakers (...)" is normal directsound renderer.
- Is bit-exact multichannel output possible at all using the internal audio renderer, or do you have to use ReClock still to do that? In particular, what is the case regarding DTS-HD MA?

Yes, it is even possible on audio decoder level. Go to LAV Audio Decoder setting and enable bitstreaming.

I think mediainfo should be removed. I don't like its place as a third tab in properties

Well, this will never happen. You wouldn't believe how much rant it would cause. I while I even agree that bundling whole MI is little bit overkill it works and doesn't harm anyone who don't want to use it.

Better would be to use the external MediaInfo DLL. It could then be an optional component in the installer. Plus it can be updated manually in that case.

No, this will stay as is. Changing things just to change them is not good.

1. and 2. System default means the default audio device that you've set for playback (if you have more than 1) in Windows Audio settings. speakers (creative xfi) probably means the waveout for the creative sound device. 8 means that mpc-hc try to use the new wasapi interface for audio playback with a selected sound device (you can select them at the Internal Audio Renderer properties).

3. Try out 8 (Internal Audio renderer), and there set the System default audio device. It would use wasapi with the default device. You can (have to, if you want bitstreaming) set exlusive mode there (I do), but in that case no other application can play sound through that default device if mpc-hc is playing. (It's not a problem for me.)

4. I would be curious about this as well.

Hello, could someone please explain to me in easy language, what the new "stereo crossfeed" does in 1.7.10 and the C.Moy, J. Meier settings below? I am using headphones, so i read the changelog and got interested, but i don't know what i am doing. Thank you.Crossfeed is an attempt to emulate speaker listening for the headphone user. Think about speakers. The right channel is heard first and predominately by the right ear, then a split second later by the left ear. Vice-versa for the left channel.

With headphones, there is absolute channel separation - the right ear hears only the right channel, the left ear hears only the left channel. Some people find this desirable; that's why they wear headphones. Others find it annoying and tiring.

Crossfeed has two variables: How much the channel is attenuated, and how much delay is applied before it's blended into the other channel. Those two variables are the differences between C.Moy and J. Meier. They sort of simulate speaker separation.

Looking at my Winamp crossfeed plugin, C. Moy has a 6db attenuation with a delay of 260 us, and J. Meier has a 9.5db attenuation and a 280 us delay. How or if that translates to MPC-HC, I don't know.

Music listeners claim crossfeed returns the "soundstage" to the listening experience.

I have an audio clip that plays fine in Windows media player and the system default audio renderer for MPCHC. It becomes garbage when put through the sanear internal audio renderer. It sounds like it's clipping, but it's clipping so bad that I can't actually tell if that's the only that's wrong with the playback.

Who would I send this (small) clip to so they can take a look at the issue?

LigH
24th November 2015, 13:00
When it sounds like "extreme clipping", it may instead have a switched byte order (intel/Motorola) or even a mixed byte order with special lsb handling (e.g. DVD Video 20-bit PCM), so there may be a filter missing which is known as "Wave Mapper" for the Windows legacy audio system, which reorders uncommon sample formats to common formats actually supported by the audio hardware.

I know that ffdshow had a quite elaborate postprocessing configuration. But I don't know LAV Filters (default decoders in MPC-HC) just as good.

hello_hello
26th November 2015, 23:19
If it's a positive audio delay required you could do it with ffdshow but I doubt you could automate it. You'd need to enable ffdshow's delay filter manually as required. You should still be able to decode with LAV if you want to but use ffdshow's audio decoder (and therefore it's filters) to process the decoded audio. You can create different presets for ffdshow to auto-load under certain conditions but for the audio decoder, frame rate doesn't seem to be a condition you can use.

Thinking about it, if you have to enable the delay manually, it might be just as easy to have two instances of MPC-HC installed, both saving their settings to an ini file, and one of them set to always apply a 125ms delay to the audio.

No, we don't have separated audio delay settings for each mode. And if you use madVR to change display mode, MPC-HC would not know when to apply custom audio delay anyway.

You can quickly adjust audio delay when necessary by using +/- keys.

There is multiple bugs with 4K UHD support with high dpi. Some of them are already on the bug tracker as open bugs for a long time, some Ive found arent and are described here.

* No toolbar is offered that properly suits a 4K UHD display using high DPI. The person "reckless" who did the 48x toolbar is the largest on the mpc-hc toolbar list to download and thats too small
* On screen fonts are too small, such as the CTRL J statistics view
* The supplied logo / background is too small
* Theres been fixes here and there in the past for high DPI and 4K UHD resolutions in some parts of the GUI but its not fixed across the board. All the pin info screens are bugged where buttons dont appear correctly and the useability is lost due to wrong size fonts, wrong scroll bars etcvetc. For example during playback on filters with the EVR CP and selecting the pin tab results in:

Rendering vectorized graphic is not trivial task to implement in MPC-HC. And this is only sane way to support various DPI. So this will need to wait for now, but there are plans to dig into this topic in the future.

Gentlemen thankyou very much for the recent commits into GIT that fixes the pin info GUI and the CTRL J stats when in UHD 4K with high dpi. The fixes are great.

I've been through it all to be thorough in testing. Im not sure if the following is a lav filters bug or is a MPC HC bug sorry. Im testing with external LAV filters and the video/audio/splitter has a tab in all three called formats. It has what I think to be checkboxes in one of the columns. Its all squished up and does not display correctly like the other tabs.

A test observation - in the new CTRL J I seem to be spiking a bit of on the graph that shows the frametimes with a graph. I'm yet to study this in detail and Ill report more. Im not sure if the scale of the graph is now changed or if indeed the frame times are longer in this build periodically. Ill get to more testing.

It is LAV Filters bug or in fact Windows one. It looks ok even with 200% but with higher it goes crazy. Anyway I guess it is the same issue as we had on format page in MPC-HC so I will take a look at it also.

Graph scale was unified for all renderer. It will indeed be zoomed twice as much. But as far as I can tell it was a little to much zoom out before for EVR-CP. Now the scale is the same as Sync Renderer had before.

So, what's the trick to get the new WASAPI internal render to actually do the WASAPI thing and override the Windows settings? I have my Radeon R9 380 set to Stereo (2 channel) in Windows 7's settings, but I only get 2 channel audio from the new internal render even when LAV shows it's delivering 6 channels. Foobar2k with its WASAPI plugin has no problem outputting 5.1 audio over HDMI even though Windows is set to Stereo. I using the official 1.7.10 release, not a nightly.

Foobar2k with its WASAPI plugin has no problem outputting 5.1 audio over HDMI even though Windows is set to Stereo. I using the official 1.7.10 release, not a nightly.

Just check the "Exclusive" box.

It is LAV Filters bug or in fact Windows one. It looks ok even with 200% but with higher it goes crazy. Anyway I guess it is the same issue as we had on format page in MPC-HC so I will take a look at it also.

Thanks. On my 65" UHD 4K curved 3D LED HTPC display, the MS default recommended high DPI setting is a font scaling of 300%, which is the recommended default, and it is indeed what nvidia / Microsoft default to when configuring the default native display settings.

So I did more testing. If I use the lav filters config directly without MPC-HC, the config GUI for the formats tab for audio/video/splitter is OK. The bug exists when a user is in the nightly build of MPC-HC and they select the filters, then the lav options then the formats tab. The checkbox doesnt display correctly and the columns are all squished up.

Ill keep an eye on the GIT commits to retest this when a fix is in.

Graph scale was unified for all renderer. It will indeed be zoomed twice as much. But as far as I can tell it was a little to much zoom out before for EVR-CP. Now the scale is the same as Sync Renderer had before.

Thanks for that. I am using the 64 bit nightly builds with the external 64 bit lav filters builds. After hours of testing I have come to understand that there is a performance problem when people try to use anything but the internal subtitle renderer. I was playing around with the latest xysub filter beta and what I found with my 4K UHD setup on the EVR CP via DXVA2 native was that the paint time would spike above the time needed given the frame rate now that I can actually see and study ythe CTRL J statistics in the new nightly build. For example in around 24 fps footage thats around 41 ms per frame, and I was spiking beyond 68 ms max on some frames with xysub. So now Ive shifted to the internal sub renderer. That fixes the performance so that my max paint times are under the frame count times of the footage even with 60 fps videos.

Im hoping that your project wll support fixing functional bugs with the internal subtitle renderer as when I used it last time exclusively, I did see bugs with some subtitles. Now that I know I must use the internal one, I will get properly disciplined with testing to report accurate and clear bug reports to your projects.

Many thanks, I love MPC-HC with lav filters :)
