Hi all,
I've been gone for 5 years!! I'm set on making MPC-HC my primary player after over 10 years with VLC.
Can someone tell me about the following? I am using MPC-HC on Windows 10.
When I open a file from Windows Explorer, it launches one instance of MPC-HC with that file in the play list. If I open another, it just replaces the playlist with the most recently opened file. Can I set this up to add the file to the playlist? I do see the context menu option "Add to MPC-HC Playlist". That works.
If I use Quick Open, and use the Open Dialog search and search for *.mp4, and select all search results. They all add to the playlist just fine. The first file plays, but then when I try to select a different file or go to next, the player stops and all of the files go "invalid", greying out in the playlist. The bottom status bar says "File not found". Why? If I right click on a greyed out file and click Copy To Clipboard and then paste it somewhere, the file path is correct!! The file plays if I open it directly (without using search). Also, if I use search in Windows Explorer, and use the "Add to MPC-HC Playlist", they all play fine. It's broke from the Open or Quick Open.
How can I add the "Add to MPC-HC Playlist" option for RAR file context menu?

I figured this out!! Works on Windows 10 x64.
Sometimes, I have folders of RAR archived videos. MPC-HC and VLC both play RAR files without unpacking. This is great, but playback software never associates themselves with RAR files. You can do this with Open With. The missing link here is adding multiple files to playlist.
This REG file will do that. The usage for me is using Windows search to find *.RAR, then selecting some or all, right-click, and then "Add to MPC-HC Playlist". Hope someone else can find this of use.

1) In 1.7.10(d911f14), anamorphic video is not stretched. I use CoreAVC. 1.6.5 or BE stretches it as required. The settings are the same. Tried everything in Video Frame and Pan&Scan.
Requested features:
2) When saving an image (screenshot), suggest the location of the mediafile rather than the previously used place, or even save without asking.
3) A key shortcut to copy the current time without calling the 'Go to' window.
4) As in BE, a larger number of recently played files (now 20) or an editable value.
5) Make the Quick Open or Open File window remember the folder of the file previously played. Apparently, now it does this only as long as a file plays and keeps track of the folder selected in the player rather than the one that the file was started from externally.

Works just fine here.

Those two behaviors are opposites.
You want it to ask for a location to save the screenshot, but you also want it to save without asking (for the location)?
If you want the former, press Alt+I. If you want the latter, press F5.

I am often forced to use headphones these days. I have long wondered the proper way to do this. After years of research (including many contradicting advice!)
currently I:
"Disable all Enhancements" in Windows
"Enable Mixing" in LAV Audio Decoder (setting the output speakers to "stereo")
Pass-through the now 2-channel decoded audio through MPC Switcher then finally to the Default DirectSound Device.
BUT Now MPC 1.7 has its own "Internal Audio Renderer" which includes a whole section of options for stereo-crossfeed (for headphones) (Including "C.Moy" and "J.Meier" and even more granular settings.)
I have heard nothing but good things about this renderer over the Default DirectSound Renderer. So I will use it. But I will not pretend to know anything about these crossfeed settings.
So two questions:
Should I still use LAV Audio Decoder to down-mix 5.1 Audio to stereo?
Should I "Enable stereo crossfeed (for headphones)"? And if so, what settings should I use?
Of course most people prefer simple answers; however, after all the conflicting information I have read (for instance, one guide said that PowerDVD's filter was the only decoder to properly down-mix Dolby, but like everything else from Cyberlink, there are flashes of brilliance combined with sheer idiocy. (E.g. supposedly they messed up the channel output and it needs to be corrected by ffdShow!! )
Thank you very much in advance!

Now MPC 1.7 has its own "Internal Audio Renderer"
If you want to use the internal renderer then you need a newer version of that (that will make it as external renderer :) ) : http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1767992#post1767992

Thank you for your help and response!!!
First I apologize, I was being lazy typing the version number, I am using version 1.7.10.252 with "internal audio renderer" selected under "Audio Renderer" on the "Output" screen. I thought this way of associating it implied it was not "internal" (bad nomenclature with the filter name I know ;) ) I did not see this anywhere, bur am I supposed to use the "external filters" tab like I used to so with ffdshow raw, LAV, etc? (In fact, I did not think *any* renderers are chosen at that sxreen! (MadVr etc...)
Your second link seems to point to what its crossfeed does, but I still do not understand: am I better off spending the normal 5.1 channel signal to the renderer and trust this logic or have the LAV Audio Decoder (or even AC3Filter!) down-mix to two channels before getting to this renderer?
Thanks again for your help! I realize most of this information is out there, but I spent hours on different sites finding contradictory answers so I felt it worthwhile to ask directly.

Once you registered the external filter in Windows then you can select it on the Output tab: "Sanear Audio Renderer" (so you don't need to use the External Filters tab).

Using new Sanear renderer:
- exclusive mode: it will put out the same channel number as it is
- shared mode: you can select whether it should put out the same channel number as it is or down/up (?) convert it to the OS default (in Sound setting)
Since you use headphones, I'd vote to allow lavaudio to downconvert it to 2ch (if it's needed), so you don't need any further channel conversion. And you can play with the different crossfeed settings after that.

I would stay away from crossfeed with "real" media, meaning movies and music for example. It is only useful for those recordings where the audio comes out just from one ear and for speech recordings, since it eats away all the vividness of the sound (treble+bass) and moves the audio more in-between ears narrowing the sound field. However that does make it easy to listen to, hence annoying recordings and speech memos or whatever benefit from it.
Best way is to let LAV downmix to stereo with clipping protection and use the internal audio renderer WASAPI exclusive mode.
Is it better to let LAV do dithering or force float to the audio renderer and let it do the 16-bit output?

music and movies are usually created in a way that sounds come only from one speaker so a cross over is made for these.

Hi everyone. I use MPC-HC and I found a problem. When I increase the rate (speed up), the subtitles remain as if I am watching in normal speed.
If I use 2X speed to play a video, the external subtitles will be out of sync with the video, however the embedded subtitles works fine.
The workaround is to embed external subtitles in the file using a remuxing tool, but I want to know if there is a simpler solution for this problem.

30th August 2016, 09:35
If the UI was changed, it wouldn't be "Media Player Classic" anymore. They would have to change the name :D
For reference, for those who don't know, the interface is more or less the same as the hidden "Windows Media Player 6.4" of Windows XP, which is more or less the same as the old Windows 98 SE "Windows Media Player", hence the name Media Player Classic.
Myself, when Windows XP came out didn't like the new windows media player, and continued to use the hidden "Windows Media Player 6.4". Later, because of new codecs, I discovered Gabest's "Media Player Classic". And finally when Gabest stopped developing MPC, I changed to MPC-HC. Last time I regularly used the default Windows Media Player was with Windows 98 (I skipped Windows ME). I really like the simple Interface

1) Can I improve decoding of HEVC on old equipment? The internal LAV or MPC plays well 1080 AVC 17Mbps, .35b/(p*f), but with HEVC of just 1.5Mbps they stutter on busy scenes. Setup (built ca. 2007): Core2 T5500 1.66GHz, Intel 82945GM 128MB, RAM 2GB, DirectX 9, DXVA2, XP SP3.
2) Requested feature: Options for the function Save Image - Save at the location a) of the mediafile, b) previously used.

Try Lentoid HEVC decoder. LAV 32 bit HEVC decoding is slow in comparison to LAV x64 and Lentoid.

As skeaker_ger just said, give a try to Strongene's Lentoid decoder:
http://xhevc.com/en/downloads/downloadCenter.jsp
No guarantees though... because 2 cores @ just 1.66GHz and w/o hyperthreading... that rig is just too old for proper HEVC playback of HD and UHD contents. The problem in this case is not the bitrate, is the greater decoding complexity of HEVC.

Hello, I've been using MPC-HC 32 for 10 years, but today I'm a bit lost : currently if I launch a x264 file, it plays through FFDShow/avisynth(+SVP)/MADVR. If I launch a HEVC file, it plays through Lav Filter (HW Decoding)/MadVR. I can't explain/remember why HEVC is managed by LAV while all other formats go through FFDShow. In external filter I have set only FFDShow Video.
My wish is to activate hardware HEVC NVIDIA decoding together with avisynth (and madvr). Is it possible? How? Do I need to use Lav Filter (internal) + FFDShow Video Raw (post filter) like it is decribed in this post?
http://www.svp-team.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1341
LigH
13th September 2016, 13:56
The last available ffdshow build is probably so ancient, it won't recognize HEVC video sttreams. Therefore it can't offer itself as responsible to decode HEVC.
I would in general recommend to leave decoding to LAV Filters, by enabling most supported formats for the MPC-HC internal filters. If you still need ffdshow's video post processing (why?), you may then have to rely on handling "raw video formats", after MPC-HC's internal copy of LAV Filters did the decoding first.
clsid
13th September 2016, 14:14
MPC options > External Filters > add "ffdshow raw video filter" as preferred.
Don't enable RAW video in the decoder like described in that topic. That will cause ffdshow to be loaded in all DirectShow apps (including some games), which can cause troubles.
Paul Tronc
13th September 2016, 14:42
All right, thank you! So I
- remove the FFDShow output filter which is obsolete
- add the FFDShow Raw Video output filter
- re-activate all video formats in mpc internal filter.
- update lav filter to be up to date
- leave by default the codecs screen in FFDShow, contrary to the screenshot in the link I posted hereabove.
@LigH : I "need" ffdshow's video post processing because my FRC plugin (SVP (https://www.svp-team.com)) rely on avisynth. If you know another way to trigger avisynth without using FFDShow, why not.

When reduced screen or full screen on my 1080p, no problem. When the windows is maximised on my 1440p screen, no problem, event if it close to a true full screen.
Any clue? Using a GTX960 2Gb + 16Bg DDR3
