One could spend time in recherching if this "Kawaii Codec Pack" is harmless. Or rather in explaining how to use the original filters.

This codec pack seems harmless enough. Contains:

MPC-HC 1.7.0.7634
madVR v0.86.9
LAVFilters-0.58.1 x86
xy-VSFilter 3.0.0.211
ReClock v1.8.8.0 (optional)
MediaInfo 0.7.64 DLL (optional)

The purpose seems to be Hi10P/10-bit support. The site (haruhichan.com) seems to have it's own codec for that.

Earlier versions had a lite build of MPC-HC, and there apparently have been some configuration problems with it. I got the impression that those problems were resolved by reading this thread. Live and learn...

Since the 1.7.0 builds introduced support for some streaming protocols like RTSP and MMS via LAV Filters, i would like to ask:

Are there some future plans to add support for RTMP too? Or does that only depend on the development of the LAV Filters?

nevcairiel

RTMP is scheduled for both LAV and MPC-HC, but RTMP requires a boatload of different parameters to be able to play most streams, and how these are to be communicated is still a point that needs to be worked out properly.

Maybe taking a "look" at XBMC's implementation will help since AFAIK it's based on ffmpeg too

No, they use librtmp/rtmpdump.

I didn't follow much of the development of mic-hc recently. With the latest mpc-hc, did that means that one can uninstall LAV filters?

How's the AV decoder configuration should be set to use with the internal LAV filters in mpc-hc?

The above two questions is not direct for me to understand. Will someone kind enough to write a how-to for guys like me?

Thanks in advance.

Anima123, the integrated LAV Filters settings are separate from installed versions so keep an installation for other software using LAV Filters. Change filter and decoder settings by double clicking bold entries in the internal filters menu.

I use MPC-HC to watch my NDVR recordings. The problem is that same recording always gets a bit different URL when selected to be played in recording managing software, thus making "Remember file position" option useless.

I have tried to solve this problem using a VBScript that searches registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\Media Player Classic\Settings) if the same recording with another URL has already been played and changes the File Name and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gabest\Media Player Classic\Recent File List\File values to match the new URL before starting playback. This works fine if mpc-hc.exe is not running when the change in registry is made.

The problem is that when MPC-HC is already running, the change in Settings gets reverted, when a new video file is opened or MPC-HC is closed. Recent File List change, however, doesn't get reverted. Could there be, for example, a command line switch to make MPC-HC re-read current registry information, or at least File Name values, when a new media file is opened instead of trusting the information read before?

I have also tried to read File Position registry value and use /start command line switch but that doesn't seem to work properly when MPC-HC is already running. And the disadvantage of this method, is that there will be "extra" entries in recent file list.

Could we please have the lite version again? I loved the fact that mpc-hc came with no filters at all; this way I could make my player from scratch.
What is wrong with having two editions? A lite one and a normal one?

What about all those internal filters?

kasper93

Disable them in options... But I don't know where you will find replacement for them :p

I see that people don't understand why the lite builds were provided in the first place. It was just workaround to have smaller exe file for people who haven't used internal (mostly broken) filters.

You need to understand that it is better to disable filters in options. It work just fine if you want to use external filters and in case you lack of particular decoder it will fallback to internal one.

Lite builds are useless now. Give me one good reason why we need them...

Delete "LAVFilters" folder from the "MPC-HC" folder.Nice trick! :O Love it this way.
Maybe it would be smart to compile the Audio Switcher filter externally as well and then add a "Lite" option in the installer so it won't install a "Filters" (instead of LAV) folder under MPC-HC's directory.

Lite builds are useless now. Give me one good reason why we need them...If you install LAV Filters externally for other programs DirectShow programs as well.
If newer versions of LAV Filters are released and people don't want to use nightlies (once stable 1.7.x will be released).
And most importantly: because we can. :)

I understand that. Just disable internal lav in settings and you can forget about it :) What is wrong with this solution? This is not a reason to have lite builds at least in my opinion.

The old lite builds also didn't have mediainfo included(which is why I never used them so it's perfect the way it's now) which would bring the size down a little bit more.

I'd like to highlight:

Audio Mixing 5.1 doesn't work on LAV Audio Filters. On MPC 1.68 default it works exactly as I prefer... It's like using "copy" on all of my 5.1 speakers... You know, I really don't like the normal 5.1 without mixing. I mean, talking only from the center speaker and effects from all others.

http://i5.minus.com/iQDXU8lPYyaGr.png

This is the reason I still use my old X-Fi Platinum, because via CMSS-3D I can do exactly that. I'm using upmix mode "surround" at 50% and I'm getting the sound evenly on all of my 5 speakers. I'd like to drop my X-Fi though, because you might know the driver support truly sucks. And here I'd like to report that Stereo Mixing works on LAV Audio at least. I convert the native 5.1 sound to stereo in order to let CMSS-3D do the mixing. Additionally, you probably know that onboard Realtek "Speaker Fill" also sucks... The 2 rear speakers produce distorted sound. As I see it, the best option for me would be Onboard Realtek ( 889 ) because driver support is the best along with MPC HC 5.1 mix in order to get the results I prefer.

Also, would be possible to consider a change for the playlist? I'd really like to have the option to move the playlist to the side, as on Potplayer.

the option to move the playlist to the side, as on Potplayer. You can drag the playlist, it can be attached to a side of the video area in maximized or fullscreen mode, also it can attach to the top or be a seperate window. It's not the same but I hope it helps.

It can also be attached to the side if you try, it just doesn't detect it very well.

Thanks for helping,

I'm running XP SP3, and need to run two WMC HC players simultaneously. It is for an art project, where one sound card sends a signal to Audio-sensing LEDs, and the other sound card is hooked up the the stereo.

Right now I am using a headphone splitter, but the LEDs are producing some feedback in the speakers.

My goal is to have 2 WMC HC players open (one for each sound card), and just press the PLAY button on my keyboard to play both players.

Any ideas?

lt1-gt,
don't know if it'll work for you, but you can search around combo "asio4all & ReClock". ASIO4ALL allows outputting same signal (at least in foobar2000) through multiple output ports like optical, coaxial etc. I've never figured out it myself (and do not know if it will work the same way as in foobar2000), but in order to use it in MPC-HC you'll probably need ReClock which will play the role of an audio renderer (?).

Also, you can create small script (or ask someone on specialised forums) in AutoHotKey or AutoIt that'll launch both apps simultaneously (BTW, both of them are for Windows). For those who know, it may take 10--20 min. If you have no prior experience in writing such scripts, it'll probably be much faster to ask someone, even for some amount of money or some favour.

Is there any benefit to compiling MPC-HC using SSE4.1/2 and AVX? If some what files would need to be edited in mpc-hc's source files?

"The player" (the user interface) won't benefit much, as it mainly waits for the user input.

If at all, decoders may benefit. But they usually are already quite optimized, especially in their assembler code parts (and partially in the C code too if their compiler is able), because their developers often take early efforts in supporting barely documented new hardware (which they may not even own yet to test their code)... ;) — This statement is not authoritative.

nevcairiel

There is indeed very little benefit to try to compile with AVX or anything like that.
All of the speed critical code is usually already hand-optimized, and selects the fastest variant at runtime, and such compiler modes will only result in very minor speed changes.

It certainly helped. Thank you! Strangely I didn't notice I can do that. Now if I could lock and keep adding/removing files -flexibility, would be great.

Incidentally, did you see any improvement by going from VS2010 to 2012? Did it help in something?

The biggest gains would be in ISR I presume. JW32's rewritten EVR-CP seems to benefit form SSE2+ as well. But all that is handwritten. Compiler's opt levels don't do much.

I have a problem when playing back forced subtitles of the Blu-ray disc.
When I start the disc and I select the language (Italian), the disc is played without forced subtitles.
The setting is automatically selected for this function.

I'm a little confused about the "Correct Monitor/Desktop AR Diff" setting. Turning it on makes the image look wider, but I'm not sure why it's doing anything at all based on my resolution, which is 1920x1080, exactly the same as my Blu-ray rips.

So if my desktop resolution is the same as the resolution of the video I'm playing back, switching the option on (when it's working properly) shouldn't result in any kind of difference, correct?

Guys, please, can someone explain me what exactly does the option: "Allow animation when buffering" ?

It does indeed lower the CPU usage pretty much I'd say ( if I turn it off), especially the moment when the subtitles appear...

With it on, when the subtitles appear, CPU utilization goes from 2% to 4-4.5%. With it off it stays at 2% ( 1080p ). Should I have it permanently off? What do you think?

Although originally a web browser test, I am now testing various software players to see how smoothly they play this video. MPC-HC passed where VLC failed!

Hello everybody,

I am bitstreaming HD-audio to my Onkyo amp and I get 2-3 audio drops by movie.
This is very frustrating because thanks to custom resolution in nvidia pannel settings, I reached the 0 Dropped frames graal by movie, but now i realize that I've got those very annoying audio drops.

I am using: mpc-hc, no internal filter, only external filters:

Haali Media splitter
ffdshow video
ffdshow audio

all of this with madvr, and no avysinth.

all my movies are with dts-hd tracks so I do'nt know if the problem happen with ac3, true-hd, dolby digital, etc.*

Do you have any clues on what could cause those audio drops ?

Thank you !

It does what it says, it allows the player to display animated ASS subtitles. If you only use static subtitles such as SRT you can safely turn it off, but in that case there should be no advantage since they're not animated anyway. In general we recommend keeping the option enabled.

That's good news, thank you for the compliment. However I do expect there to be some issues with our internal VSync when playing back such formats. With Aero enabled it is redundant and thus has been disabled by default for Vista and later due to these issues. In the near future I plan to rewrite parts of the algorithm to resolve them.

You should use S and Shift+S. Although I don't know if that also works without ISR. If not, you need to wait until the devs import some enhancements from MPC-BE.

It seems Y and U are old keybindings from the Navigate menu. Those should probably be removed, since everything is controlled through Play menu now.

Thanks clsid but I think we are talking about different things. Using S it changes the subtitle track. But I was talking about jumping to next subtitle line in the video.

Edit: MPC-HC.1.7.0.7725.x86.VS2012 is the first release where Y and U keys stop working. 7715 also works fine.
