Still? I thought 10.6 fixed all that crap? Anyway, I don't have bitstreaming capability in my bedroom just yet. However, I may be getting a sound system upgrade in a month or two for the bedroom. If I do, then I'm going to want a new card and may seriously look into the nVidia cards. Especially since that machine is connected to a 24hz capable LCD screen.

Yeah, I think the EDID override is no longer needed, when I moved to 10.6 I was able to avoid the EDID override I did previously

Thanks, samuri and dbone: i'll give it a go with my 5770 again.

EDIT: Yes it works without an EDID override, thx.

Hi Damian and Rica,

I am new to HD Audio and I am using Realtek drivers for my HD 5670 HDMI out (I saw that in http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/02/02/guide-setting-up-bitstreaming-with-your-windows-7-htpc-part-i/). Are you guys using ATI HDMI driver now? Can you tell me which one is better? Thanks a lot!

I did a clean install on my HTPC and just went with the Catalyst 10.6 driver, haven't noticed any issues vs using the ATI HDMI driver. Not sure is the silent bug is still around with the Catalyst driver (and I think you still need the Catalyst driver if you use TMT)

SamuriHL

Silent stream bug is still there in 10.7. But that's the driver I'm using, too, for TMT.

Thanks for the information guys, I will check out later what does this silent stream bug is...

I asked you guys because I have to format my htpc (viruses...), so I would install the correct drivers.

After another EDID programming i now get bitstreaming of dts-hd, dts-hr and true hd in Graphstudio with my 5870.
One thing I cannot get working are multi language files.
In MPC HC I cannot switch at all (although I can change in GraphStudio using MPCs filters) and in my favorite player Zoom Player switching only works with haali media splitter which doesn't work with dts hd at all for me.

SamuriHL

Yea, Haali is habitually broken for bitstreaming DTS-HD MA. You should be able to switch in MPC-HC though. That's odd.

PatkIllA

With the default settings I get mutiple ffdshow audio decoder instances in the graph with MPC HC.
I can limit it to one instance in the audio decoder options but this does not bring me audio switching.

nevcairiel

Are we talking MKV here? The MPC-HC MKV Splitter does not have built in switching, however MPC-HC comes with its own audio switcher. You should be able to select which stream is actually playing, even though you have multiple instances in the graph.

HS can parse DTS HD from MKV, but sooo sloooow. Haven't checked buffer size though.

There is actually a bug (we think on Haali's side) where an mkv created with MakeMKV would bitstream DTS(MA) without issue but any mkv created with MKVMerge that has a DTS(MA) audio track stutters like crazy to the point where it is completely unplayable. .

SamuriHL
4th August 2010, 14:16
Yea, once MKVMerge touches it at all, Haali will no longer work for bitstreaming if it's a DTS-HD MA track. And I mean, AT ALL. For instance, opening a MakeMKV MKV that works, changing the default flag on a subtitle, and writing it back out...breaks it.

I can switch if i use the build in audio decoder but not if I set ffdshow Audio decoder as prefered in the external filters section.

With m2ts files I have to go to context menu and use the source filters menu items to change the language. The audio switcher is active but only seeing one track. It is the same with both audio decoders.

All my mkv files are selfmade using the mkvtoolnix package

I couldn't switch audio tracks some time ago, too.
Enabling "Connect as PCM first (Try all formats)" in the ffdshow output tab fixed the issue.

That did the trick for me too. At least in MPC HC.
I'm still looking for a solution to have it running in Zoom Player.

I also noticed that Dolby Digital Plus does not play or causes stuttering for me.

OK, I have scoured the Interwebs to figure this out, and I am at a dead end. I CANNOT get FFDSHOW to bitstream, no matter what combination. Here are my specs:

Windows XP SP3
ATI 5450 (Gigabyte)
HDMI to Onkyo TX-608
ATI native HDMI audio driver (10.7)
ATI Driver 10.5 (10.4 - 10.8 all give the same issue)
MPC 2099
FFDSHOW rev 3507
Windows set to 7.1 output
S/PDIF onboard disabled in BIOS
MPC: Overlay Mixer w/MPC Audio Renderer. External Filter: ffdshow Audio Decoder Prefer and H264/VC1 (ffmpeg) unchecked
FFDSHOW: Output: All pass-through checked, 16 and 24 checked, connect to any filter and "Connect first as PCM" checked

I cannot get any supported file format to bitstream. I get no audio and when I hover over the FFDSHOW icon in the traybar, It says "Output: S/PDIF (1401)"

If I remove the bitstream options, I get full LPCM and the receiver correctly gets Multichannel PCM.

I've also tried TMT >.170 and it doesn't even give me the options to bitstream (only says 7.1).

This is with full fresh installs of all drivers (safe mode with drive sweeper) and no other codec packs were used.

What the heck is wrong?

Windows XP SP3

HD Bitstreaming only works with vista/7.

SPDIF bitstreaming should work with XP.

Qaq
13th August 2010, 14:15
HD Bitstreaming works under XP with HDAV 1.3.
I have 5450 (>onkyo 1007) and can't get bitstream (even SD) worked under XP (ok with 7). I thought it because of old Realtek driver for 3200 not completely deleted, but now i don't know.
sirwoogie, what video did you use before 5450? If you have onboard IGP, try disable it in BIOS and after that clean OS install may help (or not). One guy told me he had bitstream with 5450 and XP. But with XP and 5450 you won't get HD bitstream anyway.

Has anyone tested the new version of Haali with DTS-HD yet? I've got a sneaky feeling it's sorted!

Won't be able to test until tonight (7hrs from now!).

Nope. Never got a response. Never seen anything mentioned about fixing DTS-HD MA issues. At this point, I've given up on Haali and moved on to other splitters. I like Haali, but, there are several issues that make it really difficult to work with. Fortunately in my setup, I can switch between 3 different splitters in both 32 and 64 bit environments at the press of a mouse click. :D

I keep Haali because some programs require it for certain tasks. (RipBot, eac3to). But I keep it unregistered in the 64 bit world completely, and I only register the MKV stuff in 32 bit land. The 32 bit TS splitter from Haali breaks TMT for me. That's why I register only what I need.

There's also the new lavfsplitter. I think that will become the splitter of choice in the future as it's a one-stop-shop! It's gonna be mpc-hc's new internal splitter.

I have a set of batch files that take care of registering and unregistering the dll's and ax files for each splitter. I got sick of dealing with it manually. For Haali, I unregister the 64 bit files completely and leave them unregistered. That gives me the option of using MPC splitter or SMM splitter without worrying about Haali interfering.

@echo off
cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Haali\MatroskaSplitter"

regsvr32 /u /s avi.x64.dll
regsvr32 /u /s dxr.x64.dll
regsvr32 /u /s mkx.x64.dll
regsvr32 /u /s mp4.x64.dll
regsvr32 /u /s ogm.x64.dll
regsvr32 /u /s splitter.x64.ax
regsvr32 /u /s ts.x64.dll

That leaves the 32 bit stuff untouched but unregisters the 64 bit. To re-register them, remove the /u from each line. Also, if you have UAC enabled, you must run the batch file as administrator.

Maybe this was fixed already and I missed it, but is there still an issue when bitstreaming and using software decoders?

I read a post on a blog (http://www.landofwhimsy.com/) that the latest cat drivers fix latency issues with pvr recordings etc, so wondered if it might fix this issue once and for all.

As I say, it may not be an issue anymore and I've not noticed.

Any chance of ffdshow streaming truehd and dtsma on an Nvidia GTX 460 on Vista? I have tried with many audio renders (including mpc-hc) and multiple source files, and can't get it to work with my Onkyo TX-SR705.

People on avsforum are saying it works on Win7, but I don't want to upgrade that machine to Win7. I use the Vista photos screen saver all the time for pictures and videos. The Windows Live Version (the only option on Win7) won't play the whole video, only 10 seconds.

Thanks.

Hi, I am hoping this is the right place to ask this - I am having a conflict between ffdshow and my webcam software. I can open up the cam and mic just fine, but when I use the software that came with it (Dell Webcam Manager), it crashes if I have ffdshow installed. I did get a pop up that had different options in ffdshow (use this time, don't use, etc) but no matter which one I tried, still crashed. When I uninstalled ffdshow, the software for the cam worked fine. Unfortunately, I use ffdshow all the time as part of using BD Rebuilder, and there are so many things to play around with in ffdshow and I am a newbie at all this av stuff, I just get lost in trying to figure out what I should adjust to prevent this from happening. Any help would be appreciated - and if this belongs somewhere else, please point that out and I will move it. Thanks.

@ saphire199: you could try reducing the *merit level* of ALL ffdshow filters to "DO_NOT_USE" (0x00200000). IF even this does not work, then ffdshow is much buggier than I thought. :p Too bad that VideoForWindows is a "dead" technology. :D

hi, im wondering if my problem is best placed here as this is the version of ffdshow i use from xvidvideo.ru

ANy idea why any AVI's i have with a DTS track in them stutter at the start of the video and about 60 mins into the film everytime guranteed this is when when using bitsteaming via FFDSHow?

I do not get this issue bitstreaming with MS audio decoder or MPC-HC own decoders.. I have FFDSHow audio decoder setup as an external filter in MPC-HC.

I do not get this issue with DD 5.1 or HD audio i use a an ATI 5670 via HDMI out to SOny 2400ES reciever

I´m trying to bitstream DTS-HD MA to my onkyo 5007 receiver through an HD5450 @ HDMI with MPC-HC but when i enable the bitstream in the ffdshow it simply won´t play the video correctly !

It just stutters and stop playing, but the receiver correctly recognizes the
HD stream, by it´s blue "HD" led that turns on.

Here´s what happens (this video is from a guy, who have the same proble like me):

FWIW, I was only able to get bitstreaming to work to my Onkyo R380 after installing the following.

EDID override for Onkyo (see Tulli's thread on AVSForum.com) (must do Onkyo and current ATI drivers)
Realktek audio driver R2.54 (must do)
ATI 10.10d

You must select ATI HDMI driver as Realtek HDMI doesn't bitstream.

The Realtek HDMI driver does allow for bitstreaming, just not if you are using TMT3 where you must use the ATI HDMI driver

so what exactly do you do if you have an mkv with pgs subtitles and dts ma audio?

There's a bunch of ways to handle it. Solveig, MPC-HC internal splitter, LAVF....all work well. And DTS-HD MA works with Haali *IF* it's created with MakeMKV. But if it's touched by mkvmerge, it breaks. Don't ask me to explain it. Mosu says it's a Haali problem, and given that it's the only splitter that behaves like that I have to believe him.
