I'll try looking at it when I get a chance. I've been preoccupied with work today and haven't had time to try it. Doubt I'll get to it tonight. Have a good week off!

Hi,
I hope that this log is ok :)
Because something is write in bitstream.txt and my receiver show DTS-HD and True-HD :)
Log bitstream DTS-HD on Receiver too (http://sebinternet.free.fr/bitstreamdtshd.rar)
Log bitstream TRUEHD1 on Receiver too (http://sebinternet.free.fr/bitstreamtrue1.rar)
Log bitstream TRUEHD2 on Receiver too (http://sebinternet.free.fr/bitstreamtrue2.rar)
Log bitstream TRUEHD3 on Receiver too (http://sebinternet.free.fr/bitstreamtrue3.rar)

Hi guys.
I don’t have an ati card and HDMI 1.3 receiver so i can’t take in bitstream trials.
But at least i've prepared a small guide for bitstream testers.
Testers must have an ati card (4*** or 5*** series)
and an AVR which has the abilty of decoding True-HD and DTS-HD MA with an HDMI 1.3 input
and have to be the owners of one of TMT 3 or PDVD 9 applications.
First of all we have to unprotect “audiodg.exe” and unlock Protected Path used by the AV application.
(like TMT3 and PDVD 9)
(what is audiodg.exe:
http://blogs.msdn.com/larryosterman/archive/2007/01/31/what-is-audiodg-exe.aspx
what is protected path:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_Media_Path
And what we are gonna use is Alex Ionescu’s D-Pin Purr application so as to unprotect both audiodg and TMT 3 (or PDVD 9):
http://www.alex-ionescu.com/?p=35
First we have to know the PIDs of audiodg and TMT (or PDVD):
What is PID:
Process identifier or more commonly known as PID or process ID, is a unique number tagged with each processes running on a system, and used by some operating system kernels, such as Windows to identify a process.
And how do we know the PIDs?
There are some methods but the best way is using the task manager:
Open the task manager,
To display the PID value in Task Manager, go to Processes tab, click on View menu, then click on Select Columns…. In the “Select Columns” or “Select Process Page Columns” dialog, tick and check the checkbox for PID (Process Identifier), and click OK
http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/8097/task.th.png (http://img691.imageshack.us/i/task.png/)
So as to see the PID of audiodg click on the button “show processes from all users”
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/4060/task002.th.png (http://img4.imageshack.us/i/task002.png/)
And you will see the PID of audiodg.exe:
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/1737/task003.th.png (http://img11.imageshack.us/i/task003.png/)
(that is 1316 in my case)
Lets start TMT or PDVD and get its PID info from task manager:
In my case it is 3632
Start command prompt as admin and
Write:
Dpinpurr.exe [PIN of audiodg)] and
Dpinpurr.exe [PIN of TMT/or PDVD]
İn my case:
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/9868/task004.th.png (http://img5.imageshack.us/i/task004.png/)
Start TMT and play Blu.
That's it...
_ _ _ _
If you have albain’s hook tool:
Create a C:\Temp directory.
launch the launcher.exe and fill in the TMT process ID and click on attach.
Start TMTand play blu.
Report back the following file : c:\Temp\bitstream.txt
_ _ _ _ _
PS : audiodg's PID changes when you restart the PC and TMT's PID changes when you restart the application.

I have an ATI 4550 hooked up to a capable AVR.. would it help you to just get the info for audiodg? i don't have TMT/PDVD installed.
edit - http://www.alex-ionescu.com/dpinpurr.zip gets a 404

You need to have an auzentech with PDVD9 or a Xonar with TMT3 for now to use this. I'll work on it tomorrow.

Hi, i have edited my post for more clearly (i think) lol :) Link to log Bitstream (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1339265#post1339265)
I have made test on Vista (no Windows Update and no service pack).
Xonar Last drivers
And Asus TMT.

albain: I'd suggest to also log the complete media type information available.

Congratulations guys !!! we dit it ! :thanks:
For the media types this will be the next step : I have all the code to dump the media structure content but it is in C++, I will have to adapt it to delphi
I didn't believe that this unprotecter process tool would work
I am leaving now and will be back next wednesday
See ya !

Great job guys, glad we got there, it's superb news. I will keep trying with the Xonar at my end and will hopefully get round this internal error message I get - or maybe SamuriHL will have more luck when he finds the time to test.
Thanks to everyone involved in getting this far.

I must have missed something?? Is there a new beta build Samuri?
SamuriHL
30th October 2009, 14:08
No. There's just some updated stuff on getting the log information that albain needs so he can analyze the bitstreamed data and hopefully get us a new beta build. One step at a time. :)

Nice that the "unprotect" tool worked, it was a longshot. I have always watched this thread and googled the hell out of audiodg.exe when you started to mention it.

since I lost quite track whats all the fuss is about and what exactly is being developed right now, may I ask what it is that seems to be working successfully now? is it fully working (=no DRC, no dialnorm) decoding of DTS-HD MA & TrueHD by ffdshow audio decoder?
SamuriHL
30th October 2009, 19:55
albain is working on adding bitstreaming support for the ATI cards in ffdshow. What's working now is that a tool he wrote, in combination with a process de-protector, can now get logging information albain needs to figure out why bitstreaming isn't working. Baby steps. :)

hm I still havent understood what this is good for (bitstreaming) or what this adds to what these cards cannot do now. isnt it already possible to pass all those lossless sounds through HDMI? or only LPCM and for truehd & dts-hd programs like pdvd9 & TMT have to be used? am confused :S
SamuriHL
30th October 2009, 20:07
Not with the ATI cards. PDVD9 will support the ATI 5xxx cards "eventually". TMT3 "may" support it at some point. Otherwise they output downsampled 48/16 LPCM which is good, but, not "unmolested" audio that I'm looking for. I can bitstream with the Xonar, yes. But I'd like to move that card to another machine and use just the 5870.

The one definite advantage added with bitstream support is DTS-MA decoding. With no open-source decoder for DTS-MA, the only way to play this back in full quality is by using a commercial product (and/or it's included filters) or by sending the bitstream to a receiver for decoding. Other than that, it seems to come down to a personal preference for some to have the decoding done in the receiver.

Not just the ATI cards but also Nvidia HDMI audio on Geforce 9300/9400 motherboards!
I've got this funny feeling that we're very close!
@Albain/SamuriHL,
I'll be ready to test on my 9300 when the next beta is ready.

Bitstreaming currently only works with TMT on the Xonar. Adding bitstreaming capabilities to ffdshow would allow you to use other DirectShow programs (MPC-HC, MediaPortal, GBPVR, etc) to bitstream TrueHD/DTS-HD.

Still have this really annoying bug with Fraps videos that's only fixed by using RGB output.

Potentially any HDMI 1.3 audio card will be able to use the HD audio bitstream version of ffdshow, as long as the source files are decrypted.

@devs: I'm getting 186 errors when building ffdshow x64 rev3121 with MSVS 2008, all pointing to xvidcore. Does anybody else have the same problem?
EDIT: Another question. Now the only stuff that are built with GCC are ffmpeg, ffmpeg-mt, mplayer and x264. Is this going to stay this way?
tal.aloni
31st October 2009, 18:09
XhmikosR. I don't have any problem, try to clean the solution.
thanks for your builds by the way, impressive speed (up time).

Did you try with rev3121? The problem is only with the x64 build of xvidcore. I always use /Rebuild to avoid any conflicts.
It would be much easier for me if I could find a way to automatically patch files. For example this (http://pastebin.com/m39404cdb) patch which I use in order to use komisar's x64 GCC.
I use patch -i "ffdshow_makefile_inc.patch" and it does not work. It drives me crazy!

Using ffdshow rev3121.yup, you are right. seems like it play just about fluently for me with only using 1 core. but it would be nice if this problem could be forwarded to the developers in case similar stuff might occur in the future with higher bitrates, then I'd have a problem :S
apart from that there seems to be a problem with .mkv remuxing using eac3to here, but thats another story.

Hi. I have troubles with decoding this (http://www.mediafire.com/?yyjnxnzytjg) AC3 file using libavcodec in ffdshow. The audio is distorted... Have no troubles with it using MPC-HC internal decoder or ffdshow liba52. I'm using ffdshow r3122 icl11 x86. However things are the same with some previous revisions.

it looks like this is ffmpeg problem.
I can normally decode audio using ffmpeg SVN 19894, but with svn 20421 I have a bunch of errors like:
[ac3 @ 0x2268070]error decoding the audio block
[ac3 @ 0x2268070]exponent out-of-range
and audio distorted in the same way...
EDIT:
ffmpeg-r20024 -> fine
ffmpeg-r20060 -> distorted
