Can you tell us what reclock says???thanks....

It's getting 48KHz, 2 channel, 16 bit PCM.

Thanks for the trial.
But i think some more reports are needed coming from 4*** series users.

Otherwise albains has to find a way to put it into a package :)

I'm still open to any other suggestions. I fully believe it could be something stupid I'm doing/not doing. Anything I need to know about setting up the ffdshow options?

I honestly wish someone else with a 5870 would try this, as well, cause I'm not comfortable with my lack of knowledge here. Totally out of my element on this one.

So far I'm just getting garbled junk coming through. The receiver lights up with PCM (not multi-channel) and the output is garbled completely. I have disabled the internal filters for mpc-hc and am using ffdshow external filters as my preferred. I can see ffdshow come up on the taskbar when the sound and video are playing so that's all good. I have reclock set to wasapi exclusive for pcm and I have mpc-hd set to use reclock as the default output device. In ffdshow I enabled all the audio codecs and set the new experimental checkbox. Reclock shows 48KHz, 2 channel, PCM.

Open FFDShow Audio Decoder Properties page under graphstudio/graphedit.

Under "DirectShow Control" menu,
find mixer > output.

Select "Pass-through > Dolby True HD (or whatever)

Select "24 bit integer" under "Supported Output sample Formats"

Select "Connect to" any filter

Select "HDMI" under "Multichannel device"
And click to "Apply" and restart the application.

I had most of that. I didn't have 24 bit checked. But, unfortunately, ReClock is still showing 2 channel, 48, 16 bit on this track. I don't get it. :(

So i think nothing is missing in this case, thx.

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 00:09
Well that's not what I wanted to hear! :) I wanted you to come back and say "idiot, click this!" sigh. :)

WOA WOA WOA here. Just on a whim I decided to try a DTS-HD MA track. I'm getting the same reading in reclock...48, 2 channel, 16 bit PCM. I'm seeing ONLY pcm lit up on my receiver. However, I'm getting sound in all channels. What the????? The sound is not garbled like the TrueHD test track. I'm not seeing a DTS-HD MA light. Is it just decoding DTS core?

I've got everything setup as per rica's recommended settings however nothing is showing on my av receiver.

Interestingly though, when playing ffdshow its showing in the taskbar area. When i hover over it, it reports for a TrueHD movie...

Input: 48000 Hz, 6 channels 1 kbps Dolby True HD (bitstream)
Output: 48000 Hz, 6 channels Bitstream Dol

...and a DTS-HD movie reports...

Input: 48000 Hz, 6 Channels 3kbps DTS HD (bitstream)
Output: 48000 Hz, 6 Channels Bitstream DTS-HD

I'm on a integrated ION Nvidia HDMI 1.3 audio card.

I've got the experimental WAVEEXTENSIBLE_IEC61937 stucture unticked.

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 00:13
Yea, it's only doing core. I'm not getting DTS-HD MA. I'm quite sure on this. So no, this is not working for me. :(

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 00:15
It's showing DTS 1536 for me and playing sound. I went in and set ONLY the HD codecs (yet I'm still getting the core DTS?? OOOK) and now TrueHD gives me no audio at all instead of the garbled audio from before. So, no, it's not working for me at all.

liquidskin76
1st October 2009, 00:21
If i tick the WAVEEXTENSIBLE_IEC61937 option, strangely i get the DTS core passed through to my receiver! Unfortunately the TrueHD track i have has the AC3 core stripped out so i can't tell if the AC3 core would be passed though.

@Albain... would this be because my audio card doesn't support WAVEEXTENSIBLE_IEC61937, it's falling back to the usual normal ffdshow decoding (like you created in beta 5)?

Well, I'm done playing for now. At least I know how to set it all up if something changes. It should be noted I'm using the RC6 ATI driver on ATI's website for the 5870. That includes their HDMI audio driver, as well. I'm not using the realtek driver at all. If anything changes I can try again. For now I've uninstalled ffdshow so as not to mess with my normal media playing setup. (It shouldn't anyway, but, I'm overly cautious about what I have installed)

we are expecting the trial results :thanks:

Don't look at me... I only have a 4670. I suspect vladd has his hands tied as much as me too.

Vladd already said he's not able to buy new hardware right now else we may find him lying in a ditch with a kitchen knife stuck in his head. :D So I guess I'm one of the lucky few with a 5xxx card that can test this. And I'm willing to do so whenever someone has an idea to get it to work. :)

Uninstall haali first. (if you have already installed any.)

Install MPC-HC latest version and its standalone filters:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc-hc/files/

Register MpegSplitter.ax (MPC MPEG Source-Gabest-), MPCVidDec.ax (MPC Video Decoder)

Install ffdshow beta 7

Open MPC-HC:

View > Options:

Internal filters: Untick all selected boxes (by default)

Output:

Select "RecLock" under DirectShow Audio option box.

External Filters:

Find out these under external filters list , add and select for everyone "prefer" as merit:

MPC MPEG Source-Gabest, MPC Video Decoder, ffdshow audio decoder.

I don't think there's a need to do all that. I have Haali installed, but I have just selected MPEG PS/TS/PVA on MPC-HC's internal filters, and have ffdshow up and running with TrueHD that way for m2ts files. For mkv, I also select "Matroska". Haven't installed the new beta though. MPC-HC is version 1.3.1280 I think.

I know but i wanted to simplify. Haali is a source+demuxer filter which is always preferred even you select any demuxer in most cases.

Yea, and since I wasn't familiar at all with this setup, simplification was a good thing. Plus it helps to rule out other issues.

I think the core DTS is the only actual "core" of the HD formats, so it's always there, you can't strip it. The TrueHD DD "core" is not a core, but is a hidden DD stream. Not 100% sure about the dolby one, but pretty sure about DTS.

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 01:15
DTS core IS always there regardless. The HD MA is an extension of the core track from what I understand. The DD track that's sometimes embedded in TrueHD I don't know about but it can be stripped when making movie only copies, which I do as I don't ever need just DD. (what's the point of HD if you leave out the HD??? :D) However, the fact that it's picking up only the core isn't good. I'm wondering if the driver I have doesn't support the new mode they're trying to use in ffdshow. :(

Andy o

I may have missed it, but your receiver is showing "DTS" and decoding the core, or is it ReClock, or ffdshow?

Correct; dts core is the main part of DTS-HD structure but AC3 is a seperate thing (for back-compatibility issues) which means a thd stream is a composition of ac3+thd.

No. I get PCM (not multi-channel) no matter what I'm trying to bitstream. And ReClock is always showing 48/16 PCM 2 channel.

This is not me trying cause I still haven't installed the ffdshow beta, but just to make sure, is this similar to what you have set on ReClock? (See highlights.)

http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/666342918_YKSDx-O.png

BTW I think ReClock is decoding your DTS stream somehow, cause ffdshow is not doing it, and your receiver is not doing it. Reclock does it for SPDIF. Do you have "accept SPDIF formats" checked or unchecked? What happens when you change that option from whatever you have set it to?

SamuriHL

I do not have Slave reference clock to audio checked. I didn't change anything under speed so whatever it's set to for default. Audio is WASAPI excl. yes.

Really? This was the trick.

You have to configure ReClock as well:

(I added an edit above, BTW.)

You need those two (slave to audio and original speed) to get bit-perfect output from ReClock. If you notice in the picture, it will tell you right there. One more thing is that you have to set in the ReClock Configuration "Audio output format to use for PCM sound:", "same as input", which is the default. There might be a problem with this though, since the ATI 4000 cards don't accept 24-bit output so for that, we need to set output format to 32-bit. That only pads the 24-bit output so audio is not affected, but it does affect bit-perfectness and "(bit exact)" will not show.

So in short, you just need to make sure that ReClock is outputting exactly what it's getting input into, and the bit exact message will tell you that.

It's probably not gonna affect this testing, but you need to update ReClock. The newer versions let you choose what you want to output (16, 24, 32, 32 float) for WASAPI exclusive.

Andy o
1st October 2009, 01:44
This is what the newer ReClock versions look like, BTW. It will give you a bit more options for WASAPI exclusive.

SamuriHL

Nope. TrueHD I get nothing. I'm never seeing bit exact no matter what I set. I get no sound at all on my TrueHD track though. Reclock is now showing the correct bitrate. The test TrueHD track is showing 96/16 8 channel. I tried leaving it same as input and I've tried setting it to 32. Makes no difference at all. I have original speed set and locked. WASAPI excl. shows but never bit exact. I have that slave reference thing checked now, too. Doesn't matter.

Then, it's time to report to albain it's not working. Sure he is very close to the conclusion.

One last question. When adding the external filters to mpc-hc I see two ffdshow audio filters. One is audio decoder and one is audio processor. Do I need both? Do I need to do anything other than add them and set it as preferred?

You have to select ffdshow audio decoder only and set it to "preferred". Just forget processor.

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 02:41
Weird. So I set it that way and load up a TrueHD file, I get nothing for output. Awesome. :( So I load up a DTS-HD MA file. I don't get anything from ffdshow showing on the task area. I only get ReClock. It's showing WSAPI excl. (bit exact) now but it's showing 48/16 PCM 2 channel. My receiver is showing PCM. It sounds like decoded core DTS to me. What the hell???

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 02:57
Woa. I have some weirdness going on now guys. Seriously fruity. I don't know what to make of this at ALL. I've gotten it to a point where I'm getting 96/32 on the test TrueHD track now. That's what ReClock is getting. 96/32, 8 channel PCM. My receiver finally shows multi-channel PCM and shows 96. On another track that I know to be 48/24 it's showing 48/32. The ffdshow audio decoder is showing now and it's saying 6 channel 48KHz input, and seems to be upsampling it to 32 bit. (Whatever. I can live with upsampling more than downsampling). So what the heck is going on here?? Is it deoding the TrueHD??

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 03:05
Seems to be decoding it to LPCM. Not sure what I did to cause that. Yea, I can't get it to work so I'm going to stop trying for now.

Andy o
1st October 2009, 03:25
OK, so I tried it, and I can't keep ffdshow from decoding it. Just in case I'm using the Realtek 2.29 drivers on a 4670, so I didn't expect it to work fully, but at least I expected to get some noise or some error, but TrueHD is being decoded properly by ffdshow and sent as multichannel LPCM.

http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/666440337_UNepe-O.png

I can only send 16-bit or 32-bit to ReClock, BTW.

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 03:27
That's what I'm seeing, too, with the 5870 RC6 driver with their hdmi audio driver. TrueHD and core DTS is being decoded and sent as LPCM to reclock.

Andy o
1st October 2009, 03:40
OK, so tried with a DD Plus mkv and I did get noise when DD Plus passthrough was enabled, so at least we know it's trying. No dice with TrueHD though.

Andy o
1st October 2009, 03:42
BTW, Raw video processing is not working on this beta 7, like it did for me with my previous ffdshow installation. I use K Lite Codec pack, and I see that just a couple days ago a higher build than this 3089 was posted, what's the difference?

SamuriHL
1st October 2009, 03:54
I think some more work will need to be done to get this working. I'm willing to do whatever is necessary to help out so hit me up when you need things tried, need info, whatever. I'd love to see bitstreaming support on this 5870 that's not tied to PDVD. This is not the right thread for this but if anyone can give me a quick yey or nay on this one, does MPC-HC support BD subtitles embedded in an m2ts? I didn't mess with that but if it did and we get bitstreaming working, well, that's going to be a pretty powerful combination in my book.
