ReClock won't work for this right now. That's why the audio renderer was created in the first place. As for CODECS, I set them all to libavcodec and call it good.

and what about the outputs section?

I have mine set up to default system device. I added the audio renderer to the external filters and set it as preferred. I think that's what we're supposed to do.

Oh you meant in ffdshow...sorry, yea, I have all the pass through options checked. Use default device. And I've tried all the different sample formats I could think of.

Here is the next beta 13 (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=05fb19b4b2e4495ee7c82ed4b8f0c380e04e75f6e8ebb871), I don't have the time to test fully test it (I am at work)

About the settings :
1/ Don't use Reclock at all
2/ Check all the SPDIF/Bitstream checkboxes in output section
3/ Test with then without the IEC checkbox checked in the output section
4/ Leave 16 bits checked only (just in case)

@Testers too : can someone post debug traces with the beta9, the one with the truehd "lighting" on the receiver

How do I get it to STOP CRASHING mpc every time I run this?? :( The renderer comes up and complains about not being able to reconnect. ARGH!

It should be noted that while it's playing I get LPCM on the receiver still. And the ffdshow icon is showing it as Dolby Digital, not TrueHD.

I'm beginning to think something's wrong with my setup because the b9 results are the same except it doesn't crash the renderer. I'm not seeing TrueHD light up. Instead I see Multi-Channel PCM. So, I don't trust my results but I have NO idea what could be wrong or what I need to do to fix it. :(

OK. here are the debug traces from beta 9 with my settings posted above. The trace starts from me double-clicking on the .grf file I created so you'll get all the filter connection messagesa as well. Hope this helps.

Also note that so far with the MPC renderer I haven't gotten traditional "S/PDIF" to work at all. Even when enabling the built-in AC3 encoder in the output section. This does work with other renderers so appears to be a problem with the MPC renderer, specifically.

I'm beginning to think something's wrong with my setup because the b9 results are the same except it doesn't crash the renderer. I'm not seeing TrueHD light up. Instead I see Multi-Channel PCM. So, I don't trust my results but I have NO idea what could be wrong or what I need to do to fix it. :(

Using beta 9, I get inconsistent results. Sometimes TrueHD lights up, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't been able to get it to light up while running debugview. Trying beta 13 now

Tried both the beta 6 drivers for the 5xxx series and the most current RealTek driver. Both behave the same: inconsistent with beta 9.

I can't get beta 13 to light up the TrueHD indicator.

Ok, thanks. I have NEVER seen the TrueHD light up on my receiver with ffdshow yet. I'm running the beta 7 driver right now. I think it's the same HDMI driver, though, so, no change.

Hi

thanks for all your tests. After reading the traces there is still a bug in ffdshow. Tomorrow i will have some time to fix and test (spdif tests)

also some fixes are necessary on the renderer : for now it is not reset in case of format change (which is the case for truehd)

A note to developers : to send HD bitstream over HDMI, truehd streams must be stripped off AC3 Core packets as well as DTS Core from DTS HD
So this is not just a simple passthrough, the frames must be rebuilt
This is also what has been done for those betas in ffdshow.

Selecting/unselecting IEC doesn't effect the result:

Goodnews; WASAPI audio renderer directly linked to demuxer/or source-demuxer filter.
Badnews; wrong channel mapping, interrupted audio time to time (in 16 bit selection).
Selected 16 bits accepts WASAPI Renderer while selected 24 bits only accepts Default Audio Renderer.(no problem in this case except missing WASAPI)

Hi Albain,

Stripping ac3 core seems reasonable as this and the truehd track are two completely standalone audio streams (bit streaming was supposed to work with hd-dvd also which didn't have an ac3 core together with truehd tracks), but in the case of dts hd ma it was my perception that it really is delta information together with the core that enable re-creation of the lossless stream, I have however not seen the real specs, so I might be wrong.

Was this left upto the driver developers? If so I think it was a big mistake as some people say the surround should go to the sides, ffdshow seems to think these surrounds should be sent to the back (in its mixer). Those 7.1 tests from your other thread don't have 8 channels, only 6...... lol this is almost as confusing as the luminance stuff was to me a few months ago, I'll get to understand it all eventually, cheers.

The status :

For an unknown reason MPC tries to connect to the MPC renderer only once. It does not try to provide alternate media types (as graphstudio does) and immediately switches back to the directsound renderer.
PCM and AC3 are working through the MPC wasapi audio renderer : several bugs have been fixed on FFDShow
I hope that those fixes will make HD bitstream work


However : as I said, I managed to make MPC renderer work only on graphstudio for compressed streams (for PCM it is okay but we don't care).

So to test TrueHD bitstream :
1/ graphstudio must be used
2/ Install standalone MPC-HC filters (the .ax files from http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpc-hc/files)
Then register MpegSplitter.ax (regsvr32 MpegSplitter.ax under a DOS window in admin mode)
3/ In FFDShow, check only 16 bits
4/ In graphstudio, add "MPC - Mpeg source (gabest)" and select an M2TS file with a truehd stream
5/ Also add FFDShow audio and MPC audio renderer
6/ Connect the pins together and run the graph. If this does not work please report the logs

Here is what I get :
1/AC3 is detected first (normal, the splitter does not detect truehd)
2/ FFDShow parser detects truehd and tries to switch to TrueHD bitstream
3/ The TrueHD bitstream format is refused by the renderer (normal, I have SPDIF only)
4/ FFDShow switchs back to AC3 core (revert rule) and the AC3 track plays fine

hmm.... well I have no doubt you are correct, but ffdshow and mpc-hc are giving me strange readings. Looking at "Navigate" -> "Audio Language" in mpc-hc, and "Info & CPU" in ffdshow, I see the following with your files. I'll try figure that out myself anyways.

In any case, is ffdshow correct in outputting 5.1 surrounds to Back L and Back R rather than side L and side R (like is suggested as the equivalent of the "surround" in the dolby documentation you linked to "Left Surround, Right Surround, Left Back, and Right Back")? Thanks for all the input on this. I just feel for 5.1, ffdshow should be outputting the surround outputs to the Sides, not the Backs, going by dolbys page.

Do you have MediaInfo.dll in your MPC-HC folder ? Use that info!

And again test with any original Dolby Demo disc or DTS and any other decoder

Yeah I have MediaInfo.dll, version 0.7.22 . Even on my Star Wars DVD's that seem to visually show a 7.1 THX test, mpc-hc and ffdshow show 6 channels.

Anyways, I'll have a search for discussions on back vs rear output from ffdshow. I know various audio drivers may interpret "surround" differently, it seems ffdshow interprets surround as "back" instead of side. My problem is that the dolby page seems to suggest to me that surround more precisely should mean side instead of rear...... the opposite of ffdshows behaviour at the moment.

Found an ffdshow audio bug, took me the guts of an hour to figure out. I just updated my XONAR Audio drivers, and mpc-hc would crash everytime I tried to open it.

The problem was ffdshow audio, probably because the new drivers changed the devices that area available, ffdshow audio's "multichannel device:" setting was set to <NOTHING>. Once I set it to one of the newly available devices, all was fine.

I think if ffdshow audio is setting this option on load, if the device doesn't exist, the option should be reset to "default device" or even better, give a warning "This audio device is no longer valid, reverting to default device". Cheers

Going back to beta 9 I get the same results as before with the new renderer.

This is super confusing. When did we start referring to the revisions with beta numbers too? The official tryouts have beta numbers

It looks better with beta 14 and new audio renderer.
Still channel mapping issues but much better.

This was the PCM side's evaluation. :)
