I am having issues muxing my streams using MeGUI (via mp4box). The muxing process goes fine but when I open the file in VLC, there are extra frames counted like in the following picture.
http://stuff.griffore.com/stuff/vlc-ss.jpg
Here's the command line from MeGUI:
mp4box.exe
-add "E:\Videos\Underworld - Evolution\1_2_video.mp4#trackID=1:fps=23.976:name=Underworld - Evolution"
-add "E:\Videos\Underworld - Evolution\1_3_audio.aac.m4a#trackID=1:lang=English:name=English"
-add "E:\Videos\Underworld - Evolution\Underworld - Evolution.srt:lang=English:name=English"
-chap "E:\Videos\Underworld - Evolution\1_1_chapter.txt"
-tmp "E:\Videos"
-new "E:\Videos\Underworld - Evolution.mp4"
I'm really not sure where the problem is: MeGUI, mp4box or eac3to (which extracts the streams).
Has anyone else run into this?

Of course, of course. Yes, I know that will fix it, but then my encode speed would collapse to almost nothing.

Well, MeGUI has problems with almost every third party apps it ""supports"" ..... But it's never MeGUI's fault (according to KurtNoise) ;)
I guess KurtNoise better follows the usual "trend" in here, like all other GUI frontend creators to stop their project when they hit the first real problem they cannot fix as easy as the usuals, and start from scratch a brand "new" project, untill they reach that very same (not easy to fix) problem, and start another brand new project from scratch, etc...Etc.....
We're getting nowhere with the usual trend in front-end-land, since they all get abandoned before they are halfly usable, or they don't get abandoned and get buggier and buggier every day.

@Ramir Gonzales: we dont fix others problems. you're also not forced to use MeGUI.
if you think you're so smart, get the code and fix it. it's open source!
... else, get away and dont come back.

Greetings... noob to this thread here...
I have some 1080p and 720p clips & trailers (h264/mkv) that I'm trying to re-encode to 720p XviD avi files. I'd like to retain the original sound. How do I do this? When I re-encode my DVD's, the audio is demuxed in the D2V creator steps... and I can then add that demuxed audio file in. But when I re-encode a video file, I add it via the AVSynth script creator and there's no point where the audio is demuxed. If I choose the whole video file as the audio source, then meGUI wants to re-encode the audio with one of the built-in audio codec profiles. I just want pass through of the audio with no re-encoding. I've looked for a guide or FAQ that covers this but couldn't find one. If someone could answer this question or just point me to a FAQ or guide, I'd greatly appreciate it!!!
Thanks...

I'm sorry if this has been dealt with elsewhere, but this is a new issue for me (as of updating Megui a few days ago)...
Before, I managed to use Megui to encode .mp4 videos to play on my LG Dare phone. I was able to encode several movies which all play fine.
.x264 Video
.aac Audio
.mp4 container
However, after updating, Megui now makes corrupted video streams...
On the PC, the videos don't show the usual preview frame (Vista), while the movies that I encoded earlier all do show one. The video will play in MPC, but clearly something is not right with it...
On the phone, I get audio but no video at all.
I didn't change a single thing with the encoding settings - I used an Ipod-compatable x264 profile @ 200k/sec, in fact the same preset I used on the working movies. The video size is also the same, roughly 320x176. The working movies have the same codec, profile, and frame size, and work fine... new encodes don't.
More worrying is, I have also tried using XVID instead, and I get the same problem - no preview frame in Vista, and only audio plays back on the phone. Megui seems to be at fault rather than any single codec. I also eliminated mp4box as the culprit, I tried that + YAMB (totally separate from Megui) and it still didn't work with the video Megui gave me.
Is there a way to "roll back" Megui altogether? Or has someone else had this problem and fixed it another way?

Demux the audio from the original file with AVIMuxGUI (for AVIs) or MKVMerge (MKVs), remux with the newly encoded video. Both programs come with MeGUI - check the tools folder.

Encode the video ONLY to Xvid at your desired bitrate (remember to include the audio in the calculations) and then use the AVI muxer to mux audio and video in an AVI file.
That means you should not use the AutoEncode but you have to set the bitrate in the preset and queue the job manually. When it's done, then proceed with the mux.

MeGUI does not produce any video stream. It's a GUI (graphical user interface) for several tools...
In your case, x264 produces the video stream.

MeGUI does not produce any video stream. It's a GUI (graphical user interface) for several tools...
In your case, x264 produces the video stream.
This is what I thought too, however since the latest updates, it's now producing (slightly) corrupted video streams. This is BOTH for x264 AND for XVID, I've just verified this again...
The symptoms are that any video now produced by Megui (with any codec) no longer shows a preview frame in Vista. Other files encoded exactly the same way with Megui in the past DO produce a preview frame. I believe this is showing a flaw in the video streams which is new to the recent updates.
Also, with every single solitary setting the same (and the same preset I'd already saved in Megui), videos encoded with the old Megui play on my LG Dare phone, and the ones from this update do not. (Audio only, no video). So clearly something is amiss with the latest build, which is corrupting the video.
I have tried muxing the streams, either x264+AAC or XVID+AAC, with both Megui (mp4box) and Yamb (mp4box, separate file locations), and both result in the bad stream.
The only other consistent choke point for this is AVISynth. I am basically loading an MKV file into the .AVS creator to begin each process. I don't see how this can be it, as they open up fine in other encoders (which, sadly, are no good for encoding).
DirectShowSource("C:\temp\video.mkv", fps=23.976, audio=false)
#deinterlace
crop( 128, 0, -128, 0)
LanczosResize(320,160) # Lanczos (Sharp)
#denoise
I don't see anything about the AVS that would cause this, in both x264 AND XVID, and ONLY since Megui updated to the latest builds. Everything Megui spits out seems to be effected by this.
I have also tried uninstalling Megui and re-installing from scratch. A "clean" install of the latest does this as well.
I was planning on encoding a few movies to watch on a LONG plane flight, and now I'm stuck because of this...

megui cant be the cause. the workflow is:
- avs input
- audio/video encoders
- muxer output
what megui does is "opening" a communication channel between those tools and tell tham what to do. it cant corrupt a stream.

What other explanation can there be for the same program (and settings as before) now being corrupted then? And with both x264 and XVID streams?
Since I've eliminated muxing as the source of this (by trying other means) that leaves avs, and audio/video encoders. Assuming Megui itself ISN'T at fault, that means that BOTH the x264 AND the XVID plugins are now broken, possibly the AVS plugin as well... either way this should be checked into.
And if the new plugins supposedly are all corrult, then how can these be rolled back to working versions?
I wouldn't exclude a change in Megui's core files as a cause... any program which launches any other program can effect its ability to function... I'm now trying an older build of Megui to see if this is in fact the case.

i do exclude megui since a corrupted stream can only come out from a broken encoder or muxer.
however, get the files you need for your tests here: http://megui.org/auto/

Maybe your Decoders or Splitters are going wrong?
What's inside your MKVs? Mpeg2, MP4, or Avi?
Could be a decoding or encoding problem.
Blame it on the boogie, but not on MeGUI :p

Demux the audio from the original file with AVIMuxGUI (for AVIs) or MKVMerge (MKVs), remux with the newly encoded video. Both programs come with MeGUI - check the tools folder. Hmmm... I don't see either of these tools under the "tools" drop-down menu in meGUI. Do I have the wrong version, are there add-ons I should get, or are they called or located somewhere other than the tools menu in meGUI?
Encode the video ONLY to Xvid at your desired bitrate (remember to include the audio in the calculations) and then use the AVI muxer to mux audio and video in an AVI file.So when I encode the video only, I include space for the audio in bitrate calc's even though the audio will be added in after the video is re-encoded? Weird! I never would have thought that was the way to do it! Is there an explanation for this? I like to understand the logic behind stuff... I've found it helps me figure other things out down the road.
That means you should not use the AutoEncode but you have to set the bitrate in the preset and queue the job manually. When it's done, then proceed with the mux. Again, "bitrate" here is a TOTAL bitrate? I've never done anything but Autoencode... is manual fairly self explanitory?

Maybe your Decoders or Splitters are going wrong?
What's inside your MKVs? Mpeg2, MP4, or Avi?
Could be a decoding or encoding problem.
Blame it on the boogie, but not on MeGUI :p
I still think it's Megui... since it's pretty suspect that everything that comes from it, whether XVID or x264, winds up this way... one codec broken, I get, or the muxer, but 2 codecs AND the muxer breaking at once??? You see where I'm coming from...
The source on these is MKV files, x264 source video, and AC3 audio usually. The audio encodes to aac straight away with no issues, in fact this is the only part working once it gets to my phone. I've tried a couple which are similar to this one, and I'm getting the same result.
I can use the AVS creator to open the MKV and crop, resize, etc, and encode as I normally would. The end result is the same - video that won't play on my phone, that would before with the exact same profiles and settings.
I also believe - though I can't be positive - that the muxer isn't directly to blame either. I've tried current as well as older versions of mp4box, which Megui uses. (Unfortunately I don't know of another good one). I've tried separate locations of this as well (and using Yamb). No luck either way.
The common thread is: if the video stream was encoded with Megui, it doesn't work for me anymore. The first symptom is that there's no preview image in Vista (pops up instantly on the ones Megui encoded that work fine). Second symptom... it doesn't play on the phone.
Weirder is, it DOES still play on the PC (Media Player Classic). Splitters and codecs are fine on the computer, it's just not producing the type of stream my phone "likes", and Vista's preview image doesn't like it anymore either (possilbly misreporting something?)
Thanks, Sharktooth, for the link to the old files for testing. I hope I can figure out a solution from that... though really, I do find it pretty suspect that it goes from "all working" to "nothing works", and that multiple codecs stopped working at the exact same time, in the exact same way...
Thanks for any help, though I probably won't be able to experiment until after my vacation now :p
UPDATE: Clarification on the Vista symptom... there's definitely something to this. The files correctly produced using Megui and plugins from before can be deleted/renamed almost instantly... the ones since the update take forever to be read by the system, and they are locked out of deleting/moving/renaming for almost a minute before the system lets me. IT seems to be trying to read header information and can't. There IS something very different about them.
In addition, I even tried updating the "tools" files with older versions (I went back to Jan. 1 09 versions of x264, XVID, and mp4box). These also don't work......... perhaps something in the way Megui is UTILIZING its individual tools?....

Auto-encode encodes both audio and video. If you only enqueue a video job instead (hence, not using auto-encode), only the video will be encoded. So, doing that way, you just encode the video and then mux your encoded video with the audio you extracted from your source.
The bitrate calculator has an option to load the audio file so you can set a target size and get the video bitrate for that size.

What if I use autoencode, and then click the box that says "add additional content". Then I can add in a soundtrack file there, right? I've done that in the past with ac3 soundtracks that were demuxed in the d2v creator process, when I was making x264 mkv's from my dvds. I delete (press "X") any audio files from the main input meGUI page, then click autoencode, then "additional content", queue, load the audio file I want, then click "go". Why would this not work for XviD/AVI?

Well, I thought it would work, too... but for some reason, it's not happening. I go through the autoencode process, select the "add additional content" checkbox, click queue, select my .dts file (which I created using MMG), then click "go" which brings me to the queue. I click start, and the encoded begins. It then loads mkvmerge gui for the muxing, and out pops an .avi file with no audio whatsoever.
If I then manually mux the two, I get a file with audio, so the .dts file is good. However, I don't see a way to mux the two files into an .avi container. Both avimuxgui and MMG seem to only allow .mkv as an output container.
Help?

Hi everyone,
I'm having problems with some HD AVC transport streams. I'm basically trying to re-encode the files to take up less disc space. First symptom of a problematic .ts is DGAVCIndex crashing when trying to process the file. I've tried several methods to fix the .ts, including remuxing with tsmuxer or tsremux, or repairing the file with mpeg2repair 1.0.15 or TSDoctor 0.88. One of those usually results in a file which DGAVCIndex has no problems with.
Real problems start during encoding. x264 (1139 Skystrife's patched build) crashes in pass 1 after 30-35 minutes:
Standard error stream

Please note that I've done several successful encodings with this exact same set-up. It's only some transport streams that cause problems. I'd appreciate some advice on how to fix those files so DGAVCIndex and/or x264 won't crash.
Thanks in advance.

the track id should be 1 instead of 0...
i have copied the command line from log and replaced "-a 0" with "-a 1" and all worked ok...

would it be possible to have other kind of number rounding

Hm, why should I thought by such strange way ?? :)
I mean rounding sizes of hundreds of MBs like 703.1 MB is OK,
but rounding size about 1 GB as 1.0 GB is less optimal.
Better would be in general 3-4 "significant numbers" - I do not know exact term in english.
E.g.: 35.85 MB, 703.1 MB, 1.234 GB, 12.85 GB, if taking 4.
