Setting the quantizer to a value (close to?) zero is not the only requirement to enforce lossless encoding.
I would agree that MeGUI would deserve supporting a few more of the probably stable options. But it is not as frequently developed as e.g. StaxRip x64 or Hybrid in these days, I would guess?!

If you try to do everything manually it has the potential to become one of the most boring tasks of your entire life. I had pretty bad experience with my x264 GUI so for all dialogs I did afterwards I used a framework that generates the GUI and command line from code, the code itself that generates everything was partly generated from the x265 code and documentation and changes are tracked using a diff tool against the default values in the x265 code.

Is it possible to set other 'default' settings for HD-streams extractor in MeGUI?
F.e. set output of DTS-HD to DTS-HD instead of just DTS which seems to be the standard output setting?
It would be nice if you could write/edit the filename directly in the avisynth script creator output field, instead of having to use the browse button first and a file explorer window. I vaguely remember you had to do this before in the main program window too, but it changed. None of the other tools I checked seem to suffer from this limitation strangely enough, only the script creator one, but I didn't check them all.
Edit: The File Indexer output field is also not editable.

Hi, just a shot in the dark, more of a curious question than anything,
but have you ever thought, or considered the possibility to create a Vapoursynth version?
this is just a light hearted question, call it cats curiosity if you will LOL
Hi Everyone,
I seem to be getting random "The script's return was not a video clip." errors when using OCE. If i rerun the errored job it processes as normal. I'm currently using 4 workers which may be the cause of the randomness.
I have also noticed that random jobs working folders are not cleaned up which usually the audio source file is the only file left (FLAC, AC3).
Working tmp dir is on a SSD.

Hi,
When indexing a AVI file created by dxtory using the Lagarith codec only the L-SMASH works indexer is enabled. Unfortunately this indexer seems to be less stable than FFMSIndex, I have one recording that FFMSIndex handles and L-SMASH crashes.
I prefer to use FFMSIndex as I can also set the frame rate. I'd set the movie->Option->Synchronize Video FPS option on and was recording at varying fps about 34.
How can I enable the FFMSIndex option?
At the moment I just edit the resulting script to something like this:
#LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files (x86)\MeGUI\tools\lsmash\LSMASHSource.dll")
#V = LWLibavVideoSource("C:\dxtory\04-runningred-1.avi").Lanczos4Resize(1280, 720).AssumeFPS(30)
#A1 = LWLibavAudioSource("C:\dxtory\04-runningred-1.avi", stream_index=1).Normalize(volume=1.0, show=false)
#A2 = LWLibavAudioSource("C:\dxtory\04-runningred-1.avi", stream_index=2).Normalize(volume=1.0, show=false)
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files (x86)\MeGUI\tools\ffms\ffms2.dll")
V = FFVideoSource("C:\dxtory\04-runningred-1.avi", fpsnum=30, fpsden=1, threads=1).Lanczos4Resize(1280, 720)
A1 = FFAudioSource("C:\dxtory\04-runningred-1.avi", track=1).Normalize(volume=1.0, show=false)
A2 = FFAudioSource("C:\dxtory\04-runningred-1.avi", track=2).Normalize(volume=1.0, show=false)
mono = GetChannel(A1, 1)
commentary = MonoToStereo(mono, mono)
audio = MixAudio(commentary, A2, 0.9, 0.1)
AudioDub(V, audio)
return last
I avi file has two channels, the first is from the mic as mono coming out on the left channel and the second is the game audio.
Many thanks
If you have an AVI file with only or many keyframes (usual for screen recordings made with mainly fast but less efficient compressors), it is recommendable to use AVISource instead of the file indexers. Especially if you use an AVI codec which is closed source and possibly not yet completely reverse engineered to be supported in all variants by libavcodec decompressors (Lagarith may work, but I found some articles about limitations, not sure how old they are).

When indexing a AVI file created by dxtory using the Lagarith codec only the L-SMASH works indexer is enabled. Unfortunately this indexer seems to be less stable than FFMSIndex, I have one recording that FFMSIndex handles and L-SMASH crashes.
There's problems with ffmsindex, AVIs and the frame rate conversion MeGUI adds to the script. The original idea was for the frame rate conversion to ensure the correct constant frame rate. L-Smash and ffmsindex treat AVIs with "null frames" as variable frame rate and output the average frame rate, which messes with the audio sync. AVISource outputs the correct constant frame rate (it duplicates frames where there's "null frames" if need be).
At the time the frame rate conversion was added, ffmsindex had frame rate conversion options but L-Smash did not (it now has the sameoptions as ffmsindex), so the conversion was added for ffmsindex but not for L-Smash.
When the problem with ffmsindex and AVIs was discovered (it sometimes causes ffmsindex to drop or duplicate frames for AVIs when it shouldn't.... when the frame rate isn't being changed as such), ffmsindex was removed as an indexer for AVI completely. I thought the frame rate conversion was going to be removed for ffmsindex instead, but maybe there was some confusion at the time.
I think there was also an intention to add frame rate conversion to the Script Creator GUI for ffmsindex and LSmash, but it hasn't happened as yet. Currently there's frame rate conversion for DirectShowSource (I'm pretty sure it adds or drops frames to change the frame rate as the ffmsindex and L-Smash conversion options do) and also AVISource, which to make it confusing changes the frame rate by speeding it up or slowing it down, not by changing the number of frames.
The whole thing could probably use a fresh look, but I gather Zathor is generally pretty busy (he maintains MeGUI).
I prefer to use FFMSIndex as I can also set the frame rate. I'd set the movie->Option->Synchronize Video FPS option on and was recording at varying fps about 34.
How can I enable the FFMSIndex option?
You can't for AVI at the moment. You can create a script yourself to open a video with ffmsindex and use that script as the input video for the Script Creator. If you create a script (ie, something like)
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\MeGUI\tools\ffms\ffms2.dll")
FFVideoSource("D:\video.mkv", cachefile="D:\video.mkv.ffindex", fpsnum=24000, fpsden=1001, threads=1)
The first time you open it'll you'll have to wait a little for it to be automatically indexed, but then it should be fine from there. In fact the script creator crashing that tends to happen when cropping or resizing and indexing with ffmsindex doesn't happen if the source video for the script creator is another script using ffms2 to decode the video. Go figure....
Another method:
Index the video with L-Smash and manually add the same frame rate conversion to the script as MeGUI would add for ffmsindex.
Or open the script creator, select the AVI as the source video and MeGUI should ask how you want to open it. AVISource should be an option, no indexing required, but be aware it's frame rate conversion doesn't change the frame rate in the same way as ffmsindex or L-Smash. It'll duplicate frames to replace "null frames" as the indexers do, but if you change the frame rate in the script creator GUI it'll speed it up or slow it down.
You could remux the AVI as an MKV with MKVToolNixGUI or MeGUI's MKV muxer (under the Tools menu) and use it as the source instead. MKVs can be indexed with ffmsindex or L-smash.
L-Smash and frame rate conversion should work correctly for AVIs but as a general rule I tend to either use AVISource for AVIs or remux AVIs as MKVs and index the MKVs instead. The frame rate conversion MeGUI adds to the script after indexing is far less likely to be problematic for MKV. Whatever works.... ;)

At the moment I just edit the resulting script to something like this:
Keep in mind the different frame rate conversion methods work differently. For Avisynth:
AssumeFPS() assume a specified constant frame rate. The frame count doesn't change, but the duration does.
ChangeFPS() duplicates or drops frames to output the specified frame rate. The duration shouldn't change, but the frame count will.
ConvertFPS() blends frames to output the specified frame rate. The duration shouldn't change, but the frame count will.
If you open an AVI with MeGUI and AVISource it'll give you something like this:
AVISource("E:\video.avi", audio=false).AssumeFPS(24000,1001)
Changing the frame rate in the script creator under the Filters tab will simply speed it up or slow it down.
For DirectShowSource:
DirectShowSource("E:\video.mkv", fps=23.976, audio=false, convertfps=true).AssumeFPS(24000,1001)
"convertfps=true" for DirectShowSource is the same as Avisynth's ChangeFPS(). Changing the frame rate in the script creator under the Filters tab will cause DirectShowSource to drop or duplicate frames to change the frame rate. MeGUI follows that with AssumeFPS() but it's not really needed.
For ffmsindex and L-Smash, their frame rate conversion (ie fpsnum=24000, fpsden=1001) will duplicate or drop frames to change the frame rate. The duration shouldn't change.
In other words, these two scripts could produce different results.
LWLibavVideoSource("D:\video.avi").AssumeFPS(30)
LWLibavVideoSource("D:\video.avi", fpsnum=30, fpsden=1)
MeGUI follows that with AssumeFPS() but it's not really needed.
It's mainly for reliability and precision (24000/1001 is not exactly 23.976, but an infinite decimal fraction).
If the source already has the frame rate the conversion targets, the lack of precision in DirectShowSource may occasionally cause dropped or inserted frames where no change at all would be necessary.

Is it me or Drag & Drop into MeGUI does not work in Windows 10? I remember there was such issue in Windows 7 long ago but I believe it was fixed and I never had any problem with Drag & Dropping in Windows 7.
OS: Windows 7 Pro x64
MeGUI x86
I ran into this problem recently on Windows 10. At least for me, it turns out it was a combination of putting MeGUI in my Program Files (x86) folder and UAC always being on unless you disable it in the registry (the control panel slider for UAC only controls notifications and does not actually turn it off). It works fine if you either put MeGUI in a non-protected directory or disable UAC. Word of caution about disabling UAC beyond the usual security spiel: disabling UAC also prevents you from running Windows Universal Apps. Personally, given that I don't use Universal Apps and hate UAC restricting what I can and cannot do with my computer, I disabled UAC. That said, is it possible to change MeGUI so it will work in protected folders like Program Files with UAC still enabled?
To achieve that, MeGUI must not store job related files below its installation directory. Instead, it may use the "Application Data" area of the user account by default (maybe customizable). And for updates, the updater may have to support self-elevation to be able to exchange executable files there.

I have begun updating the wiki (https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MeGUI) since it's super out-of-date. Not sure which one of you is Tim Gu, but just figured I'd give a heads-up so that the pending changes can be reviewed, and hopefully approved.
So far, I have only touched the installation page (https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MeGUI/Guides/Installation). I'd like to continue the updating of the wiki, much of which is no longer relevant, but only with the blessing of the people here.

Several times already recommended: Do not use an indexing source (FFMS2 / LSMASHSource) with an AVI containing a lot of keyframes, instead prefer AviSource.

Quite incomplete, this log, probably due to the crash. Did you try using an indexing source filter instead? Maybe the main reason are data errors in the source file which make one source filter crash, but another might survive? The filename suggests that it might be downloaded instead of ripped.

I am getting the same crash with all dvd sources and they all play fine in vlc. File is from a dvd rip and is renamed. Could you please clarify what an indexing source filter is? Do you mean creating a d2v and avs "manually" and feeding that to megui? Also, currently with this issue, it stopped generating avs files in one-click mode in temp folders that usually creates, the d2v is generated.
I also tried redownloading and running all the previous versions of megui with auto-update turned off, with every single one of them giving me the same error excepting the 2112. Which kinda leads me to believe that the issue is with my current software assembly on this pc (net framework and c++ redistributables are up to date though), but I also get the same error on another pc in the house also running windows 7, I've however only tried 2634 on that one.
I mean FFMS2 or L-SMASH Source, instead of DGMPGDec.
But usually DGMPGDec should be rather reliable. And it is usually a recommendable source filter for DVDs with several VOB segments as source (FFMS2 or L-SMASH Source require one continuous file). So I wonder if your DGDecode.dll might be corrupt... not very probable, but I just can't think of other more probable reasons.

You know what.. Guess it did get corrupted which I myself also find unusual, but I can almost swear that I tried redownloading the dll as one of the troubleshooting steps before, though on the other hand I could've been replacing it with the dll from my plugins backup folder instead, which would mean that the dll became corrupted either on the c drive or in the backup, also explains the error on the other pc in this case, strange that the 2112 version would work. Anyway, it's up and running again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

The latest version of dither.dll (1.27.2) causes MeGUI to crash for me. I don't know whether it's typical or an XP conspiracy, but it's easily repeatable. All it takes is gradfun3() in a script. The method of opening the video doesn't seem to make any difference. MeGUI will load a script containing gradfun3(), add it to the job queue and encode it, however if I view it with one of the previews (Script Creator, AVS Cutter etc), it'll preview normally, but MeGUI will crash every time the preview is closed. Or it thinks it's crashed. The error message refers to an error in an unknown module.
I have dither.dll in the installed Avisynth plugins folder auto-loading. If I replace dither 1.27.2 with the previous version the problem goes away. I've tried moving dither.dll out of the auto-loading folder and loading it manually but that makes no difference.
Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Been using MeGUI for a long while now, but normally don't keep up with these threads, so I don't know if this has been covered.
I have been finding MeGUI more unstable than it used to be. Namely when using the the AVS cutter to trim out opening intros and end credits from my TV shows. When using the preview window, I get random "out of Memory" or other errors and turns off "improved AVS opening", which basically makes the cutter useless at that point as I can no longer use it. I have to completely close out and re-open MeGUI to get back into the cutter. This is especially annoying if I've already started an encoding job since I have to stop the job and lose any work it's already done.
So far, I've noticed the issue using DGIndexNV and L-Smash. It also seems it happens faster the larger the video is, ie DVD size versus Blu-ray size.

@greensoldier
Please put the full log (There aren't initial info about your MeGUI installation)
Seems you try recode a 1A.mkv
Video: HEVC, FrameCount: 36348, CFR 23.976, 848x480
Audio: HE-AACv2
Subs: ASS
And crash at first job when try recode the audio to AAC quality 0.5:
avs: BassAudioSource("1A.mkv")
command line: neroAacEnc.exe -ignorelength -q 0.5 -if - -of "1A.m4a"
I don't know how do you make that job with MeGUI but:
1) BassAudio don't support mkv input.
Try LWLibavAudioSource instead.
2) For what do you want recode a HE-AACv2 to LC-AAC?
You can't improve the quality, let the HE-AACv2 in your output.

Anyone else having problems to start HD-Streams Extractor lately?
Selecting "Folder" as input and pressing the [...] button to open the explorer window to select a destination, Megui aborts with following error message:
https://picload.org/image/rrrdwcdp/2016-07-01.png
I have to edit the following lines in the settings file manually to make it work:
<Eac3toLastFolderPath>E:\</Eac3toLastFolderPath>
<Eac3toLastDestinationPath>D:\Moviename</Eac3toLastDestinationPath>
Although both paths stored here are valid paths on my system, I have to change them manually to something like "C:\" to make HD extractor working and get an Explorer window to select my files.
Until next start of Megui when the whole problem repeats itself...

No problems with the HD Stream Extractor at all. Try with starting all over from scratch with MeGUI. Got that recommendation from a m8 some time ago when i had a issue and it solved it. Never managed 2 find out what the real issue was but......

I like MeGUI and TMPGE - Is MeGUI ever to become a 64 Bit app?
LigH
20th July 2016, 12:53
Because MeGUI is just a user interface and requires hardly any CPU capacity or RAM in comparison to running encoders, there is no urgent need to make it a 64 bit application (which would also disable its use on a 32 bit OS). MeGUI is able to call 64 bit versions of encoders if that is supported by hardware and OS, that's the most important part of the conversion.
Tiny Mud

Thanks LigH: So MeGUI is just an interface for existing Codecs, Splitters, Decoders and Encoders ... etc, one already has installed in their OS.
LigH
22nd July 2016, 07:08
No, MeGUI comes with a bunch of them (see the tools subdirectory). The encoders used by MeGUI do not need any VfW codecs installed because they are separate applications specialized in encoding just the one target format they were made for (like xvid_encraw, x264, x265). And reading source formats doesn't require VfW codes or DirectShow filters being installed either if you can use native AviSynth plugins to decode them via the "File indexer" feature (using FFMS2 or L-SMASH Works); they may only be required if you decide to use DirectShowSource (which is in general not recommended due to its lack of certainty) or AviSource (only recommended for AVIs with uncompressed or by LAV unsupported content formats).

Do the coders actively developing megui actually use the program or do they just adjust code here and there in response to the most complainers? Because there are multiple small and/or large issues that have continued for years that would seem to have been noticed and resolved by now. I'm really not one to complain about free software but these problems have persisted for so long that i just have to ask.

The main coder - Zathor ;) - is using the program himself on a daily basis and has no problems otherwise he would fix them. Other problems need to be reported. As the coder has very limited time at the moment for reasons I am not going to explain or want to discuss here, the best place is always to post bugs/problems at the sourceforge page so that they can be followed up when there is time. It is also very much appreciated if updated tools are also added there.
And yes, it is correct that there was no program update now for more than 3 months and the last tool update was > 4 weeks ago.

---[Error] [23/08/2016 05:38:46] Error: Failed to create process <2>!
is the important part. I am not sure about the reason; if "<2>" is a runtime error code from Windows, it may have the meaning "File not found", which may mean that "D:\MeGUI_2513\tools\x265\avs4x265.exe" or "D:\MeGUI_2513\tools\x265\x64\x265.exe" does not exist? :confused:
By the way, there are outstanding updates, including x265 ... eehm, why are there 4 days between these two lines in the log? :scared:
--[Information] [19/08/2016 10:34:59] There are 8 packages which can be updated: core, mediainfo, updatecopier, x264, mkvmerge, eac3to, AviSynth portable, AviSynth plugins
--[Information] [23/08/2016 06:37:35] There are 10 packages which can be updated: core, mediainfo, updatecopier, x264, x265, Xvid, mkvmerge, eac3to, AviSynth portable, AviSynth plugins
And why do you try to open an MKV with DirectShowSource, despite us telling people for years to avoid that if any native AviSynth decoder plugin still works, and you should prefer the "File Indexer" (with L-SMASH Source or FFMS2)? :sly:
And furthermore, if you select the development update server in your options, MeGUI should update to rev. 2634 already.

guys, how do i set up x265 lossless in megui x265 UI?
if i just add --lossless in misc->commandline the 'encode mode' setting (crf/qp/bitrate) still remains and is passed to encoder and these are not needed for lossless i think..
Is MeGUI adding --lossless to the command line? Because according to the info here:
http://x265.readthedocs.io/en/default/cli.html#quality-rate-control-and-rate-distortion-options
--lossless
Lossless encodes implicitly have no rate control, all rate control options are ignored.
Is there anything informative from x265 in MeGUI's log file?

Hello,
I noticed a possible regression in development build (2634)...
When One-Click encoding a whole folder using L-SMASH indexer and two job workers, the second occurrence of the indexer abort (see log15574, Job7)...
It sound like a Reentrancy issue.
Workaround : I restart the aborted job (indexer) while the first worker is encoding video (x264)... and then, all the folder can be processed if there is not indexer concurrency.
NB : I installed the latest L-SMASH version on the Megui stable build (2624), but I can't reproduce the issue... So I think it is related to Megui 2634.
Kindly.
Abdel.
