Could you retry with my own MP4Box build ?

http://kurtnoise.free.fr/mp4tools/MP4Box-0.4.6-rev2080.zip

>mp4box.exe -add Maschine.264:fps=25 -add Maschine.m4a -new Maschine.muxed.mp4
AVC-H264 import - frame size 640 x 360 at 25.000 FPS
Import results: 217 samples - Slices: 10 I 54 P 153 B - 237 SEI - 1 IDR
Stream uses B-slice references - max frame delay 2
IsoMedia import - track ID 1 - Audio (SR 48000 - 2 channels)
Saving Maschine.muxed.mp4: 0.500 secs Interleaving

Works. :thanks:

Kurtnoise,
I also tried version MP4Box 0.4.6 rev2080. It seems my problem with multiplexing 848x480 video disappeared.
:thanks:

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?
Probably a bug coz this part has been changed recently...Feel free to post a sample of your mpv somewhere (mediafire or anything else) to test.

It smells like a missing code in the MediaInfo retrieved information.

@LigH/zmaster : good to know. Maybe, it's time to upgrade the new build into the megui server.

Quick question from a newbie.

On the x264 profile what do you set first, Tuning (Film, Animation, etc..) or the Preset (Medium, Slow, Slower, etc..)

I'm curious because usually I set the Preset first and I noticed that it adjusts the settings and then when you select a Tuning it re-adjusts the settings. Which can be a bit of a problem..

For example... You set the Preset on Placebo and it changes your B-frames to 16 and then if you select a Tuning afterwards like Film, it sets your B-frames to 3, which basically defeats the point of the Preset.

So would it be right to set the Tuning first and then Preset?

presets handling is buggy. im going to commit a fix this week.

Haven't used MeGUI in a while. Latest update (0.3.5) changed the interface for file indexing. Now when I open an mpv file like I've always done before I get this error:

Please upload a sample file as suggested by kurtnoise. But I hope that the problem is already fixed in the recent development build (0.3.5.15).

@LigH/zmaster : good to know. Maybe, it's time to upgrade the new build into the megui server.

I second this request and have uploaded your build. Thank you very much!

Curiosity question - is the ffms included with MeGUI a multithread enabled version?

If so, is there anything I need to change in the AviSynth that is created automatically when I index a file using FFMS to enable it, or is it enabled by default? Thanks.

you can find the MT version in tools\ffms\ffms-mt folder. just replace all files in the ffms folder with the ones in ffms-mt

I have uploaded yesterday only the new "vanilla" build 2.14 (together with 3 other tool updates). As Sharktooth has mentioned you could copy in the past for some builds the mt build in the root of the ffms directory. Because of this manual step - which I believe most or nearly all users did not do - I have removed it. The main reason has been the shrink of the size of the package so that there is less load on the server and client side. Any user who wants the mt build can download the files easily from the ffms2 project page (and a user who knows about mt should know how to do this). Feel free to discuss this decision.

OK I've posted a small sample that consistently causes the error (for me at least). Sorry for the delay, it's been a crazy week.

Anyone who's interested can download the clip here:

The problem is the included mediainfo build in MeGUI 0.3.5. Either update to the recent development build of MeGUI or copy (and extract + replace the two files) this file into your MeGUI directory:

OK downloaded the zip and replaced the files, which took care of it. Looks like the next release will have this fixed, so that's good to know.

hi there, i'm using MeGui since a while to make 1400/1490mb rips (depending on the film length) but this time, i've encountered a serious problem: my rip is undersized, i mean *overly* undersized (899mb instead of 1400mb).

my first guess would be that it comes from the xvid codec but you never know - the dvd i'm trying to encode appears to be a bit fucked up.

well, i'd be very glad if some of the experienced doom9 members told me what's wrong with the process i went through:

My source:

Video Format.....: Widescreen 2.35:1
DVD Source.......: DVD5
DVD Format.......: NTSC, R1 to R0

after creating the .d2v and .avs with megui, i noticed that the bitrate calculator were showing 23.976 fps while mediainfo said 29.970: i decided to check manually with DGindex:

http://imgur.com/rbrPQ.jpg

variable fps (mostly between 23.79 and 24.04 fps) and FILM +95% so => forced film and save.

http://imgur.com/YpRWT.jpg

after clicking "yes" to correct the file order transition, i finally got the fixed .d2v along with the original d2v.bad and the fix.txt.

D2V Fix Output

Field order transition: 0 -> 2
900 5 0 655360 0 1 1 30 30 90 b0 a0
d00 5 0 794624 0 2 1 d2 f2 e2 f2 f2 e2 f2 f2 e2 f2 f2 e2
corrected...
900 5 0 655360 0 1 1 30 30 90 b0 a1
d00 5 0 794624 0 2 1 d2 f2 e2 f2 f2 e2 f2 f2 e2 f2 f2 e2

then, i opened the fixed .d2v in MeGui Avisynth Script Creator.

http://imgur.com/LU61A.jpg

http://imgur.com/YFXSF.jpg

note: i increased the analysis percent of the source detector to 5 in order to get a reliable result. MeGui said "progressive" so there we go.

http://imgur.com/SiFfa.jpg

i still don't get why the bitrate calculator says the length is 1:42:38 while the original length on dvd is 1:42:32. maybe because of the variable fps ?

anyway, here are the basic settings i used to configure the xvid codec. that's probably where my issue with the size come from:

http://imgur.com/HRlyo.jpg

http://imgur.com/u4aiH.jpg

i tried to tweak the "overflow" values as suggested in the "Undersized Files" stickied thread but the result was exactly the same (899mb instead of 1400mb).

here is the mediainfo of the (muxed) encoded file:

http://imgur.com/qghIY.jpg

you can notice the difference between the bitrate i set and the final bitrate (1705 vs 1027 kbps).

sorry for the long post and also, please be indulgent; i'm not a native english speaker. thanks in advance for the help:

try lowering the min i/p/b frames quantizer to 1.

Zathor
16th October 2010, 20:14
I've used MeGUI for years (currently 0.3.5.0) and about 25% of the time when a job tries to mux SRT subtitles into a MKV output file I get this dialog box that says:

Error parsing idx file
<name of file>
Input string was not in a correct format

This stops the job queue until I click OK in this dialog box, after which it muxes the output just fine. My question is, is there something in a SRT file (created by Subrip) that causes this error so that I can try and avoid it?

Thanks for the report - it has been fixed and will be in the next update. The message can be ignored by the way.

try lowering the min i/p/b frames quantizer to 1.
wow, thanks! it worked! - although the video quality seems to remain the same as the previous 900mb rip but well, the final avi size is definitely 1400mb.

does lowering i/p/b frames quantizers to 1 considerably decrease the quality ?

thanks again.

Sharktooth
17th October 2010, 14:01
no, but fixes undersizing. however, when you get an undersize it usually means you saturated the encoder and cant get more quality than what you're getting with the undersized file. lowering the quantizers to 1 will "waste" more bitrate for a nearly zero quality gain but will help you hitting the desired filesize.
it's definatly not recommended to use quants below 2 for encodes that do not get undersized.

I've got problem with cutting off tv commercials from this .*ts file. This file is not broken (i ran some tests), and it's H264/AVC [MPEG4]

I can't do it. When i run AVS Cutter, and try to move bar to pick zones, that should stay in recording,
What else I can add... Without cutting TS file converted to AVI or MKV has also artiffacts! I checked other software like AVI ReComp and in this aplication file is converted properly and without artifacts...

So, i decided to use FFMSIndex in File Indexer. AVS Cutter works fine, there is no "Exception message: Nastapila proba odczytu lub zapisu pamieci chronionej. Czesto wskazuje to, ze inna pamiec jest uszkodzona", but there are some artifacts in the capture, so i Can cut .TS, but this way of encoding gives a YV12 video problems conected with AviSynth - on the contrary DGAVCIndex doesn't have such a problem.

In StaxRip, after importing dga file, the situation is the same:

http://ifotos.pl/img/staxrip_sspare.jpg

So, i decided to try TSMuxeR. I mux file into m2ts, and MeGUI get this, so there is no artiffacts in preview in e.g. AVS Cutter, but the preview very often freezes during seeking on the bar.

Would you think about a solution to this problem?
I'm Polish, so some of erros are only in this language.

blah123 - don't use dgavcindex on paff streams , known bug

you can use dss2() + haali media splitter + ffdshow

blah123

What is dss2() and what are paff streams?

dss2 = directshowsource2

avss.dll comes with haali media splitter, put it in avisynth/plugins folder

paff = picture adaptive field frame . Think of it as interlaced AVC

Ok, interlaced videos. But 2 weeks ago I didn't have any problem with interlaced sources...

Ok, I put this dll file in "MeGUI\tools\avisynth_plugin", so what I should use to prepre TS to use it in AVS Script Creator?

DSS("video.m2ts")
# other filters

if you want to deinterlace or add any filters you can add them

MeGUI Version : 0.3.5.0

and you might want to update your megui version (use the development server) , because some other bugs have been fixed

Here http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui/files/ the newest version is that I have... So where from i can get always the newest? Function of autoupdate doesn't give newer than 0.3.5.0...

So I put that file, and has got ffdshow and haali media splitter, but now when i'm trying to open make an avs file in AVSsc i get this error:
http://www.iv.pl/images/33430314727360359333.png

I'm a newbie in matters like this kind, so:
DSS("video.m2ts")
# other filters
doesn't give me a clear statement.

no, put it in the avisynth\plugins directory

or use LoadPlugin("PATH\avss.dll")

Don't use directshowsource(), use dss2() .

Don't use the avisynth creator, you can use notepad or avsp or edit the script

Under options=>settings=>external config tab=> auto update use development server

blah123

no, put it in the avisynth\plugins directory

Still the same problem.

Don't use directshowsource(), use dss2() .

Don't use the avisynth creator, you can use notepad or avsp or edit the script

I don't know what are you talking about...
I've installed ffdshow and haali, as you just said, that's all. I didn't picked any other stuff, like 'directshowsource' or 'directshowsource2'. I prefer GUI version of making avs srcipt, beacuse it's simplier for me. I don't have a script, so I don't have anything to edit.

2 weeks ago I'didn't have such problems, this is very, very odd... MeGUI worked perfectly!

get megui dev version. there is an option to enable DSS2.

OK, I installed FormatFactoy (it has some codecs) and evertyhing works fine. DSS2 also.

EDIT: Video is OK, but audio has weird click...

http://www.speedyshare.com/files/24763091/weird_click.mp3 <- here you can hear it, in the begining.

This is demuxed from TS to M2TS (in tsMuxeR):

MUXOPT --no-pcr-on-video-pid --new-audio-pes --vbr --vbv-len=500
V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC, "file_path*.ts", fps=25, insertSEI, contSPS, track=102
A_MP3, "file_path", timeshift=13ms, track=103, lang=pol

(Audio it's after encoding with cut from *.CLT file in MeGUI)

Where can i download dss2???

Its already enabled in megui you don't need to download. Or using google http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/External_filters

Do the x264 pre-sets - medium, slow, slower, very slow - etc, apart from each one making the encode take longer do they deliver a significant visual improvement? I know the longer it takes the better it should be, but if slow gives the same result as very slow, i might as well use slow and save myself some time

nurbs

Well slower is better, but how much is an other question. One thing I can say for sure is that if you use settings faster than the defaults you will lose quality pretty quickly, because you are turning off the psy optimizations. For the slower ones there are diminishing returns, that is you are definitly losing more in speed than you are gaining in encoding efficiency, and if you care about encoding time you might as well stay at the defaults and use a little higher bitrate or lower ratefactor.

I have found no need to go below slow, most of my encodes done on medium. I haven't had a source when tested where I could say slower has been required for me or produced a more notable result than slow.

What else I should have installed to open a preview of interlaced h264 in avs script creator?
I've got a ffdshow and haali and try to import .m2ts file (created in TS Muxer), but it fails with:
http://www.iv.pl/images/33430314727360359333.png

I can't choose dss2 (as @poisondeathray said), because this option is unavailable without video input...

How I should handle with this file???

For some reason when I encoded a video to x264 with MeGUI, upon viewing it in mpc-hc (with ffdshow outputting to YV12) there were jagged edges that looked like aliasing on red and bright orange objects (the only way to get rid of this effect was to output the video to RGB32 in ffdshow) but when I encoded the same video with identical settings (that I was aware of) in Staxrip, the jagged chroma effect was not apparent, even when I output to YV12 in ffdshow.

Why are the jagged edges only visible in video encoded with MeGUI? I have even noticed this chroma effect in fan subbers' encodes like Central-Anime and G_P. Is there some automatic chroma setting that Staxrip uses by default, that removes/avoids the chroma issue, that you have to manually specify in MeGUI?

blah123
19th October 2010, 15:35
I've got ffdshow and haali, but MeGui seems to not see them.

Ok, I unistalled ffdshow, haali and avisynth. Then installed avisynth 2.58 and matroska. M2TS imports, but is still interlaced and analysing type of interlace gives error, that program couldn't recognise this type of interlace.
http://ifotos.pl/img/source_sqhaqs.png

Yesterday, program converted into avi XviD perfectly, but in spite of "Progressive" mode, there was still interlace on video.
