I hope everyone's well :) . For the the last week or so both my laptops with portable 64bit MeGUI, both fully updated from the developmental server, have been crashing whenever I try to downmix any audio with any of my previously-working-fine QAAC profiles. After much banging of head, I discovered that switching the "Preferred Decoder" in the "QAAC configuration dialog" from "FFAudioSource" to "LWLibavAudioSource" solved the issue. Is this something I should post somewhere else? Looking for guidance, thanks.

After updating 64 bit MeGUI I'm pretty sure I discovered it'd installed the 32 bit version of ffms2 instead of the 64 bit version. The file in MeGUI's update_cache folder is called ffms2-r1387-32.7z.
Try downloading it manually and replacing ffms2.dll in MeGUI's tools\ffms folder with the 64 bit version.
https://codeberg.org/StvG/ffms2/releases/tag/r1387
MeGUI seems to have developed an annoying habit of simply shutting down when an error is encountered, without displaying an error message to let you know what the problem might be. It only became obvious when I tried using ffms2 with AvsPmod and was able to see the Avisynth+ error message.
Having said that, if I open a file with FFAudioSource I now get an access violation error message. That's using Linux/Wine/AvsPmod with the current version of FFMS2, so maybe it's just a Wine issue. I haven't tried it on Windows yet. LWLibavAudioSource is okay though, and FFVideoSource works as expected.

Exactly the problem; you've many tricks.

I agree with the annoyance of MeGUI crashing without an error message but understand, given that it's freeware and quite complex (I miss Zathor). Are you familiar with Groucho2004's AVSMeter? I added it to my "Send to" context menu; if a script is troublesome it always leads me in the direction of a solution.

My problem was strictly in the audio realm (Win 7); video indexing was fine (although I only use FFMS2 for VC-1 video).
Thanks again, hello_hello, for saving me physical effort and mental stress :) .

4) Making test I found a bug in last ffmpeg (6.1), ffms2_r1387 and L-SMASH-Works-r1156.0.0.0 opus decoder: opus files with samplerate 32 KHz or 44.1 KHz (maybe more) are decoded always to 48 KHz.
Using opusdec.exe from last opus-tools-0.2-opus-1.3 the samplerate is preserved ok.
Bug reported https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/10680
Closed ticket like wontfix like a old one (https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/5240)
Internally opus only support 8, 12, 16, 24 and 48 kHz, then other input is resampled and ffmpeg refuse any last resample after decode.
It is ok for me.

As always I hope everyone's well :) . I'm not certain that this is necessarily an MeGUI issue but it seems a reasonable place to start. I've an older (Win 7 64-bit; Intel i7; 16GB RAM) laptop that I pretty much only use to downmix audio and encode video (MeGUI 64-bit, Developmental Server; AviSynth+ 3.7.2, r3661, 64-bit), although I'll occasionally go online to get a subtitle or read an article while waiting for a large file to finish copying or indexing. For ten-some years I've had no problems that weren't eventually explained as user error; however, a few months ago I started having issues with MeGUI simply stopping for no apparent reason while encoding video. That is, for years I could simply queue video(s), start the queue, then wait for the results, moving the mouse to kill the screensaver every once in a while to check the queue's progress. Unfortunately for these last several months, about every third time I start a queue I'll find that MeGUI is completely frozen or that the FPS has slowed to a number so low that the encode(s) will take years to finish (it could be the first video in a queue, the last video in a queue, or one somewhere in the middle of a queue; and, I might discover this frozen state the first time I interrupt the screensaver, the third time, the fifth...). Invariably I'll have to do a hard restart because I'm unable to open anything, not the Start Menu or the Task Manager or any program. It reminds me of a problem I had years ago with a browser suffering from a memory leak. I've checked things as well as I know how--Memtest86 shows no issues with the RAM; CrystalDiscInfo shows no issue with the SSD; Avast shows no viruses or malware after a scan; I've not made any changes to my dozen-or-so script presets--so I'm wondering if there's an MeGUI-Win 7 issue I'm unaware of. Upgrading my OS SSD from a 500GB Crucial to a 1TB Dataram occurred about the same time this problem arose; is it possible an SSD drive is too slow for multithreading? Any help is much appreciated.
_____________
EDIT: In case this helps someone I found a solution. After testing the hardware as best as I could and uninstalling-reinstalling various softwares, I decided to re-restore the Clonezilla image that I'd originally restored to the new SSD; however, the image proved to be corrupt (deemed unrestorable by Clonezilla) upon attempting this. I've no idea how I was able to restore the image in the first place if it was corrupt, but restoring an older, uncorrupt image seems to have fixed the problem. Happy New Year :) .

I'm seeing this error quite regularly when processing the last video in a folder batch job, typically when running QAAC. It halts processing of the job, but goes away on left mouse click, which appears to resume processing without error.
Can anyone please tell me what is causing the error, and how to prevent it?

Happy Friday! I'm wondering: is it possible to use MeGUI with UtVideo and, if so, how? Thanks for any help.

For reading AVI files encoded with an UtVideo codec, to convert them to a final format, surely.
For writing AVI files, would not make much sense. Ut codecs are lossless, you won't use them to approach a target bitrate/filesize. Simply using VirtualDub2 would be a lot easier.

LigH: Thanks for your reply :) . I'm currently using MeGUI to index UHD Blu-rays then VirtualDub2-UtVideo to tonemap and downscale them then MeGUI-AVC to clean-sharpen-shrivel, and just wondered if I could streamline the process by using MeGUI exclusively. Not a big deal, just curious. Thanks again for your input, Prost!

Why not just use DGIndexNV to generate index, and also generate avs from template [with your tonemap/downscale/clean/sharpen/etc], and then use MeGUI on that avs to encode.
[Make your AVS template, and set it as default in DGIndexNV settings]
Below untested
MyDefaultDgIndexNV_Template.avs
# Below 3 lines __names__ filled in by DgIndexNV
VideoFileName ="__vid__"
AudioFileName =LCase("__aud__")
AudioDelay =Value("__del__")
# ...
# example load code
Video = LWLibavVideoSource(VideoFileName)
Audio = LWLibavAudioSource (AudioFileName)
AudioDub(Video,Audio)
DelayAudio(AudioDelay)
Trim(0,0) # Chop/add audio, ensure same length as video
# ...
# + your code to tonemap/downscale/clean/sharpen/etc
# ...
Prefetch(SomeNumber)
Return Last#.ConvertToYV12 # MeGUI usually requires YV12
EDIT: DgIndexNV 251:- https://www.rationalqm.us/dgdecnv/binaries/
Maybe use current DgIndexNV as above instead of the one in MeGUI directories, copy file to index onto a DgIndexNV shortcut on Desktop,
and press F4 to index. [after setting default template, in settings]

StainlessS: Originally I did as you suggest but quickly discovered that the encoding time for a single script with everything was about four times greater than the encoding time for a tonemap-downscale-to-lossless script followed by a clean-sharpen-shrivel script. Of course, some would argue, not necessarily incorrectly, that downscaling before cleaning-sharpening leads to a lower quality encode. Hmmm, maybe I'll test tonemaping-to-lossless then cleaning-downscaling-sharpening-shriveling. Thanks for your input :) .

What tools can be updated safely without breaking MeGUI?
LigH
21st February 2024, 21:30
All of the EXE encoders which did not change their command line interface to an incompatible syntax.
And MeGUI x64 is surely the better choice to keep up with the development of Avisynth+ and its plugins.

sorry hehehehe you're right, I forgot the translator,
I was wondering about the error I present below. The megui does not load and gives me a video player error. Could someone or know how to tell me if it is because I need to update or install something?

Hi,
I've been trying to use MeGUI to deinterlace some video using QTGMC.
My script seems to work as I can play the video, but whenever I click AutoEncode, MeGUI waits a little and then crashes.
I don't see anything obvious in the log file (linked below).
I've used MeGUI for other projects (not deinterlacing), so I think the installation is basically OK.
How can I troubleshoot this? Is there something like the AviSynth Info Tool for MeGUI?
Thanx

If there are references to a drive D: better make a new install (now 64 bits recommended (https://www.videohelp.com/software/MeGUI)) in a folder out of windows system, recommended C:\Portable\MeGUI
After:
Options -> Extended -> Use development update server
Tools -> Update -> Show all packages (enable and update all)

Hello, and as always I hope all's well with all :) . I recently began using MeGUI's Suspend-Resume feature so that I can use my primary computer to encode video whenever I'm not using it for communication or gathering information (overnight, when I'm not home, etc.); however, I've found that, frequently, when I Suspend the encode I'm either unable to then open my browser, or can open it but then not any new tabs, because there's not enough RAM available. Does anybody know any tricks to free the cached RAM when I've suspended the encode or have any thoughts for a solution? Thanks for any help.
EDIT: Windows 7, MeGUI x64, AviSynth+, Firefox.

Hi, I tried to update x265 to version 4.0 but I keep getting "error." I used to update by just replacing the x265 exe file in the tools x265 folder of MeGUI. Now it doesn't work.
LigH
15th September 2024, 06:52
The reason might be the same as with RipBot264: If x265 is used via a pipe, it now requires an explicit "--input" parameter before the "-" placeholder for the input file name.
LigH

I changed my x265 v4.0+4 archive (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=2006909#post2006909).
Please note: From version 4.0 on I will build all variants without MultiView support so that they may still work without explicit --input parameter, except for a 64 bit build which has it explicitly enabled.

Why does it work on MeGUI 6666.2308 but not MeGUI 2944?

If you had searched for the error message "extra unused command arguments given" in this board, you could have found several places where we explained: Since x265 supports MultiView (e.g. stereoscopic) video encoding, it requires explicit "--input" parameter before the placeholder "-" as filename for the pipe input.
MeGUI 6666.2308 does use "--input -"; MeGUI 2944 did not yet.
So I published x265 v4.0+4 without MultiView support hoping that these binaries do not need the "--input" parameter and may work with older tools. Scroll up to the bright red text here.

I'm supposed to use the x265.exe inside the Win64 folder, correct?
I apologize if I am slow regarding this. I am not very fluent regarding stuff like this.

Yes, correct.

Yes, correct.That's odd. I still get an error even with that version of x265.

Well, that's unfortunate. The MV feature should be the only one which requires several input sources. I hoped that the command line parser would accept the last remaining parameter as input filename, as it used to work before, when I just disable MV support, but I can't guarantee it, I don't understand the sources to this degree.

Why not give Kurtnoise's 'new' MeGUI 6666 releases a try.....
https://github.com/Kurtnoise-zeus/megui/releases
I've finally some time but I'm only able to import my x264 profiles; all other profiles either don't appear or are sent to a backup folder (.avs profiles, etc.). Any thoughts on how to import my AviSynth and QAAC profiles? Actually, Kurtnoise's MeGUI build doesn't even have QAAC...
EDIT: I figured out the QAAC problem; I had to enable it in Options/External Programs. D'oh! Now if I could just import my AviSynth profiles...
