Thank you very much for this app 3r1c. I've been using it with great success on all my MKVs. I upgraded to the newest version recently and the first movie I tried to convert gave me an error. According to the app there is no transcoding needed, it starts by converting DTS to AC3, it seems to complete that step and then I get ''Muxing Failed" Any idea what the problem would be. I'm kind of newbie to all this, it's just weird that I have never have had a problem with the last 16 movies I've done. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the great app.:thanks:

I ripped half of my collection to put on the ps3 because it's much more convinient and cooler to play them directly from the PS3s hard drive.

GREAT app Ive used this on mainly all my 1080p that need transcoding and it works super. I really enjoy watching 1080p on my LG 50" PG3000 through the PS3 and HDMI. For some reason my old AMP from Sony crackles the sound when the bitrate is 640kbs. The AMP is from 2002 so I guess its a problem for the AMP with higher bitrates. It works great when playing a DVD or original BR disc but bad sound when playing an AC3, MP4 or M2TS file... To fix this I simply must resample the AC3 track with EAC3TO to a lower bitrate. Before I used 384 but it works fine up to 576. I dont notice any poorer sound but still, it works and since my wife would kill me if I suggest buying a new AMP i have to stick with this solution for now. However, is there a chance in the MKV2VOB program to include an bitrate for the AC3 sound?

Thanks for the continued support of MKV2VOB.

I'm having issues with the latest version as well. As someone already mentioned the subtitle implementation doesn't seem to work ok.

I've tried 2 different 1080p mkv files with a DTS track. Extracted the embedded dutch subtitles, put them in the same folder as the source file and selected selected the following options:
- always encode subtitles
- load subtitles from .srt
- preferred audio language: english
- preferred subtitle language: dutch
- video transcoding: automatic
- output file extension: mpg
- transcoding codec: x264

The result is an mpg file with english(!!!) subtitles embedded. This is very strange since the 'attached' .srt file is 100% dutch!

Is this problem already known? Mkv2vob seems to hardcode the embedded english subtitle regardless of the .srt file.

yes use tsmuxergui. just burn the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders to a what ever you want just make sure its in udf 2.50 othere wise it will not work.

Thanks for this great app!
With the latest version i have some issues.
First, the output file has lost it's sync with the subs, and it show me the subs in different timeline from the movie, and
second, the ps3 can play the output file, but in the menu writes "unsuported data"(again, i say that if i click on it plays as normal)
I m using this app without problems and i have convert over 100 mkv's already, and i haven't see this ever, since the last version.
If you can do something about it i would be greatfull.

It kind of sputters and jitters like I'm repeatedly turning mute on and off. It only does it with certain movies, and with some it only happens during certain scenes. For example, in "What Happens in Vegas" the sound sputters ONLY in the scenes where they are in the office with the therapist. In "Be Kind, Rewind" it did this throughout the entire movie and basically made it unwatchable.

I've determined it happens somewhere in the MKV2VOB conversion process. I tried redoing the conversion with nothing else running, changing settings, re-ripping them from disc, changing directories, etc. and I still get the sound jitters in the exact same times. Since the update, redid the ones I had problems with and found that it corrected the issues in 3-4 of the 5-6 movies I had this problem with. Anyone else have this issue? I'd like to figure this out to prevent future issues. Thanks!

Are you talking about where the DTS was converted to AC3, or where the AC3 was already in the mkv?

Some AC3's dont play right on my surround system, maybe its the same for you.

I'm curious to know why the process from disk to VOB requires an intermediate MKV step. Can you explain it to me?

As I stated in http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1228167#post1228167, I have a subtitle problem with mkv2vob -- the borders of some Chinese characters are chopped off when "Large Subtitles" is ticked. So, I tried to play with mencoder.conf to see if it is possible to change subtitle configurations without having to change mkv2vob.

And, here are some preliminary results. Because I have to wait till the end of conversion to see whether or not configuration changes are taken into effects, you're welcomed to share your testing results here.

1. From my various experiments, it seemed to me that mencoder.exe, included in mkv2vob, does NOT read configuration file (mencoder.conf) at all.
2. I found that mencoder.exe, included in mkv2vob, is not the same as the one posted in http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php. Although there are other win32 mencoder.exe projects, I tested this one so far. I downloaded "MPlayer/MEncoder svn rev 28126", de-compressed the file, and put mencoder.exe into mkv2vob/tools. Of course, I backed up the mencoder.exe included in mkv2vob.
3. So far, I also created a mplayer directory under mkv2vob/tools. In the newly created directory, I copied "c:\windows\fonts\simhei.ttf" into it and rename simhei.ttf to subfont.ttf. Also, I created a mencoder.conf which contains one single line:

subfont=c:\Windows\Fonts\simhei.ttf

4. I have now successfully converted one mkv file to use simhei font. (no more chopped off subtitles) But, I'm not sure which one make this happned: mencoder.exe, mencoder.conf, or subfont.ttf. I have to test more. But again, it required many hours to find out. If someone could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.

I've just discovered that my specific subtitle problem has nothing do to with the updated version of mkv2vob. As strange as it may be, my 2 different mkv's both had the same problem. Another mkv doesnt have this problem. And the subtitle problem happens with older versions of mkv2vob as well.

These problematic mkv's have more than 8 subtitle tracks embedded so perhaps this is what the problem causes. As I tried to add another subtitle track, the .srt file is ignored but the first (embedded) subtitle track is used instead for transcode.

Thats the same place I downloaded the mencoder i incuded with mkv2vob.

The reason it looks different is I compressed it with UPX.

As I said I'm all new to ripping/transcoding. So far I've only ripped blurays as a whole, so I wasn't aware of the problems that I had.

I've converted lot of mkv with this program an I always get an excellent result, but since last update, 2.3.0 and 2.3.1, I've lot of problems with files that includes DTS sound.

I've tried two files, one all I get is perfect sound but a black screen, and the second one has a perfect video but audio was corrupted.

If you need I can get the mediainfo data for these files.

Hi, i'm trying to convert mkv file with mkv2vob, the app always encode the audio to ac3 which comes out with a gradual delay... I don't know what to do anymore. I've tryied to demux the file and do separate audio encoding to 6ch ac3 and the results were the same. When i play the original mkv everything is fine, it plays in perfect sync?? But when i extract the dts track it appears to be 2 sec. longer then the video file??? I've never before had this problem and the funny thing is another release of this movie has the same issue?? Please help i'm lost...

A niggling issue has arisen since 2.3.1. TSMuxer ctd with a 'stopped working' msg and on completion I get a VirtualDub error msg: 'cannot detect file type *****.mp4'.

My settings are:

Pref Audio: ENG Video Transcoding: Auto Pref Sub: ENG

File Split: None Output File Ext: .MP4 Transcoding Codec: Xvid

does anyone know if its possible to SPLIT a converted mkv after its been converted? I know mkv2vob does 4gb splitting but let's say i forgot to enable that option or i want to copy my 10gig file over to a fat32 drive after its been converted - is there an easy way or do i have to retranscode it? thanks!

When it's done it plays fine on my computer, but when I burn on disc to trasfer, no file is shown on the ps3, not even if I try to view the information of the disc. Someon can you please help me master the settings?

Seems that remuxing MKV's is not very mature these days. Appreciate your work on this though. This is a sought after capability.

Try using the .vob output file extension.

Same problem here, but I'm also trying to get the converted files onto my iPod and iPhone, but they won't even show up on iTunes in the first place. I can't use another converter because this is the only one I've been able to use without losing the subtitles.

can't choose the file type output anymore? i was used to .m2ts now fileoutput makes it a .mpg automatically

what is the benefit of the avchd (usb) output? and is it worth it for 720p mkv tv eps or no? can you have sub foldes in the avchd dir? need to separate by tv show for example.

seems the updates are mostly for movies. can do dts sound now via file? still ahve the fat32 4gb limit for ext. usb hdd's though so still have to put a larger 2.5" sata in the ps3 and then trasnfer movies to it via tversity or soemthing.

i do like ps3 better for 720p mkv tv eps but i still dont think ill use it for movies. i store my avchd vid cam clips on it and playback.

tv eps from usb ext. hdd. is the avchd output mode worht it for those? what are the benefits?
video thumbnail? anything else? chapters? but dont need those for tv eps.

hmmm and what about the new audio pcm mode? none of my tv eps never need the audio converted. ac3 is fine for them though i prefer dts for movie. the pcm mode says it makes a larger file?
