I have 360 too, mainly i use the ps3 for video playback and streaming from the pc, and the 360 for games.

i was not aware of that, if only it converted aac 5.1 into dd then that would be great. they were the first to come out with divx so hopefully they listen to the users again and give 5.1 audio.

but eventually 360 will have a bluray drive and m2ts should be playable

yes the most recent patches added WMV 5.1 support (think when they came out with the hdmi versions of the 360).

a question concerning the sound enhancement:

- does it make sense to use this feature on any dts movie?

dts without enhancement works fine with my audio setup, but when i tick the enhancement it almost sounds 'overdone'.

anyone else got the same impression or is the enhance option just boosting the overall volume?

Before I use Mkv2Vob I've watched all my HD movies in the 360, and they were all with 5.1 audio. And no the 5.1 audio dind't came with HDMI 360, it was there before.

As for AAC 5.1, the 360 converts it to 2.0 and the Playstation in my case convert it to (my receiver wich is old, does not support it).

Well that just wont work.
You cannot mix NTSC video and PAL audio they are different speeds.

mkv2vob does not speed up or slow down audio to match your video, if your audio is wrong in the mkv, it will be wrong in the vob.

You need to use audio software to slow the speed of your audio and correct the pitch.
In version V1.5.3 works perfect, but in the lastest version has out of sync.

I think that in v1.5.3 works well because it use h264info to convert the video to 25 fps.

Hi 3r1c ! First of all thanks for the great work :).

I have a problem when I transcode some .mkv with subtitles... Some worked fine, but gangs of new york isn't able to transcode, I get a windows error message when it's time to transcode and mkv2vob stops. With 2001 space odyssey it will transcodes fine, but I get 'muxing failed' .

I compared the media infos and nothing seems to be different so I can't figure out what is causing the problem :confused:... can you please help me ?

The 25 was put there to KEEP the video at 25fps that it was already at.

Your NTSC video with PAL audio is not following the proper specifications.
Whether or not it may have worked before does not change the fact that it is wrong.
The specifications are there for a reason.

mkv2vob's purpose is to change containers, not fix errors in your files.

I do not know what is causing muxing failed on some files.

It means tsmuxer will not accept your mkv file, if this is a bug in tsmuxer or a problem with the mkv i do not know.

Somone needs to pm me with a sample file where I can see this.

Thank you very much for the great work. It's really useful and now I don't have to waste time doing all the steps manually.
I understand that is really really stupid having a file with ntsc video and pal audio, but a lot of encodes in non-english language are made ripping the video track from a USA release and encoding really only the audio track. It would be great to have an option to "force video track to xx fps in tsmuxer".
Or maybe is there an easy way to fix this data directly in the source?

Could not parse mkv...
Other files in the same batch befor and after that file worked fine without á restart ...

Tried severeal setting in the configuration tab...

Any ideas how to get it working ?

Is it not possible to use WMP11 to stream the file to my system? Not sure if I need codecs installed to play back on my pc but WMP11 does not add the vob to the library so I don't see it on my ps3 when browsing for the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you converted to .vob just rename it to .mpg. Your PC might not be able to read it, but your console will.

Hi, sorry to be a noob but can someone answer the above please? I have just converted a 1080p (no transcoding, just muxing) to play on the PS3. The video is AVC and the audio AC3. It stutters on my PC (3.39ghz 3gb ram) but will it play on my external hard drive ok?

Can't test it until tonight.

In a nutshell do 1080p's have to be transcoded or can they be done the same as 720p's?

Yeah I've had this problem as well. My solution to the fact that it doesn't see .vob was to do the process that MKV2VOB does manually but mux into a mpg using tsMuxer. That is I use MKVExtract, change the profile on the AVC stream using h264info and then mux to mpg. This can be seen by Medialink.

Unfortunately it does get the length of the movies wrong as you say. What seems to happen for me is that the film will just continue to stream despite the progress bar saying it is complete.

Medialink is by far the best streaming application (probably on Mac and PC from my experience).

If i split an mkv with mkkvmerge and then add the files with the add directory function, the program converts the first file with no transcoding but then starts to transcode the next file in the queue. Should it also skip the transcoding if the video properties are identical? To avoid this i have set it to 'never transcode'. Actually i have remembered that this happens even if i convert the files individually. It tries to transcode the second and third file even though they are identical to the first.



In addition i converted an mkv with subtitles and it worked brilliantly. Thank you. Great software and very fast.

No, the transcoding is for "burning" the subs to the movie, is you add the subs to the VOB the PS3 wont open them.

I've got a directory with several mkvs... When I add them, all of them work - but one (its not the first or the last)... It's status column shows "could not parse mkv"...
But the file in question does play well on my pc...

Right, but if you get the movie down to DVD5 size, it's still going to look like crap even if it says the resolution is higher, the bitrate will be the same as a regular DVD. I guess it may look better to the casual eye, but I for one love the high bitrate and best Video & Audio for all of my HD flicks.
Not true. DVD's are MPEG-2 only and like 9.6mbps bitrate. You CAN get FAR higher bitrates and resultantly FAR higher quality in a DVD5 size file using AVC encoding.

the error you are getting suggests your command prompt is not working properly, or else your mkv is corrupted.

they are not identical!, do not split with mkvmerge, it does not duplicate the header properly and so mkv2vob cannot determine the h264 levels except the first file.

feed the original full unsplit file to mkv2vob and use the split option in the configuration tab.

Its when they have the extension .mpg that they only play for a small amount of time, i would like Nullriver to update their software to be able to use .vob in the vain hope that it would work!

This is definately not a problem with mkv2vob tho as i have just tested a film i made by ripping the vob from a dvd, joining them up and renaming to mpg - exactly the same problem as i get with the mkv2vob files.
