For those who get strange symbols in subtitles, or just want to be sure to avoid it here is what to do.

Open srt file in notepad
Goto file save/as.
Change encoding to UTF-8.
Save the file and it should work.

There are some problems with AAC conversion (Transformers 720p) - it is mixing up the channels - centre channel is on right channel and not sure what other mixups with other channels but definitely centre channel is on wrong channel.

I can try and post a sample if you like.

I'm having the exact same problem with Transformer and Finding Nemo. Also, I tried converting Matrix (720p) and I got an error "Unsupported audio codec AAC/Mpeg/4/LC/SBR.

Any ideas ?

Out of four movies that I've tried, only one gave me that error (""AAC/Mpeg/4/LC/SBR"). According to the file information the audio on that movie is AAC, 48000Hz, 6 channel.

Excellent tool, what i have been waiting for since i got my PS3!

I would like a "start" and "abort" button. When adding files/folder, it would be ok that it first analyzes the mkv files to see if they need to be transcoded etc, then eventually the posibility to change the movies you want to be processed first and last etc. Then when 3-4 movies is analyzed, press start to start, and also an abort button to stop (now i have to use windows task manager).

It also seems that f-secure antivirus have some issues when it's transcoding, by taking over 50% of the CPU and then the converting takes VERY long =( (anyone else had this problem ,using win XP)

So far i've tested one movie with subtitles, working great! Thank you very much!

I have only one problem. When I want to add subtitles there are no subtitles on the result movie. I've tried several movies, subtitles from srt file and subtitles from mkv, but always the same result, no subtitles on picture. The mencoder founds the subtitles, because i saw it in txt log files.
What could be my problem?

Changing the subtitle file to UTF-8 didn't work. The result is the same as if it was in ANSI.

Do you use some kind of filter to insert the subtitles (DirectVob Sub for example?)?

I have problems with the new version.

The a/v is not sincronized (Video at 23.976 fps and audio at 25fps).

In old version whit h264info you put a 25 in fps and no problem, but with the new version with memcoder you don´t put 25 fps and the a/v is desincronized.

There will not be minimize to tray.
For 360 compatible there is no current way to get h264+5.1 audio on the 360 so i never done any 360 mode.

You can re-encode the video to fit on DVD5 but then again, what's the point in getting HD Videos and converting them so they look like regular DVD quality? Might as well save your download time and just get the DVD version.

The AVI container can handle h264 and 5.1 audio in 360.

The problem is tsmuxer does not accept your file, i do not know the reason, i will look into it.

Where did you see h264 in AVI working on xbox360?
I tested it (although not thoroughly) and it did not play.

does new tversity see .m2ts files on ps3? because i like to select that as the output extension for avc (remuxed from x264) and .mpg for the mpeg-2 (transcoded from x264)

but the .m2ts is not seen by the ps3 via tversity so i have to change it to .vob anyway for ps3 to see it via tversity.

maybe it is tversity that can't use the .m2ts or .mts extension? i'm only using a version or 2 back which was like a month or so ago but was wondering if the new version can now let ps3 see .m2ts and .mts

also I agree about the having to set the file output folder everytime. the input folder stays to what you left it at last so if your files are in same place its not as bad to exit out of that files folder into the main folder with all the similiar files one up from that.

but output folder starts you at desktop everytime and you have to navigate to the folder the mkv is in (as most like to just put the output .vob in that) so yeah an option to just click output folder same as input file would be good.

to the person that uses the same folder everytime for all output files dont you still have to choose that folder everytime as i said mkv2vob doesnt seem to save last output folder just last input file folder.

and even so dont you still have to add the file in tversity or is there a setting to automatically share all files in that folder so you dont have to do anything but open tversity and then ps3 can see all those files? which you have mkv2vob always put the output file in this same folder?

i still kind of think i'd rather jus keep it with the mkv, that way i can del the mkv and even the rars and maybe rar up the new ps3 compatible avc or mpeg-2 file.

i ordered a popcorn hour so i might not have to use this anymore but its almost more fun.

still a shame about the files with 2 audio tracks each with diff dialects of chinese (mandarin and cantonese) the 1st one has dts and the 2nd has ac3 whic would be perferable for mkv2bob as it already has to transcode the mkv (sadly even though its L4.1) becuase of the subs so would be nice if it didn't also have to convert the dts audio.

alas, the way mkv2bob is set up, it just lets you choose the language and not which audio track (1st or 2nd) nor prefer an audio codec type, so all i can do is pick Chinese as the audio language and its going to pick the first one which is dts. even if i leave it as english default its still going to pick the first audio track (which is Chinese Mandarin dts) rather then the perferable 2nd audio track being Chinese Cantonese AC3.

again i dont care about which dialect of chinese i just would like to pick the ac3 audio track rather then be stuck with teh 1st one whic is dts and which mkv2vob has to take more time to convert.

edit: yeah it chose the first audio track with DTS but i'm happy to report it seems to hve transcoded (hopefully with the english subs) pretty fast and is converting the dts to ac3 fast as well (allt his on a 2 hr 1080p mkv) at leat the blue bar is almost full. oh nm i guess the converting audio wan't a big deal but the transcoding video to hardcode the subs is going to be a while.

Right, but if you get the movie down to DVD5 size, it's still going to look like crap even if it says the resolution is higher, the bitrate will be the same as a regular DVD. I guess it may look better to the casual eye, but I for one love the high bitrate and best Video & Audio for all of my HD flicks.

you can encode x264 to wmv but it takes a lot lot lot longer then even transcoding mkv to mpeg-2 let alone the fast remux to avc.

so basically there is no quick way to x264 on 360. again use it for wmv (ps3 has 2ch audio for wmv) and ps3 for mkv remuxed to avc or transcoded to mpeg2. between the 2 consoles you almost dont need a media player.

if you have 360 but dont want to spend on ps3 then just deal with wmv (yeah i know its less selection and hardly any hdtv) or wait in virtual line for a $179 popcorn hour that plays all. thats best i can tell you. but requesting 360 support from this prog with only 2ch is just going to take away from teh main purpose of mkv2vob.

I'm going to waist my time and answer, i have both consoles, but the 360 is much more user friendly in video playback, you have simple tool that splits the file in 10 peaces and let's you skip forward and reverse, seems little but with a 3 hours movie its very nice to rapidly skip to the desired part of the movie.

It's true that many people that have the PS3 like me have a 360 to gaming too, but to all the other people that have the 360 and don't have the PS3 it would be nice to have a tool like this, and 3r1c is the man to do it.

most ppl these days have surround sound on their main tv. a ht in a box isn't expensive and many wont bother with a version with 2ch sound. i know i wont and there are ppl much more audio /video snobs then me. 10 years ago 2.0 sound maybe but in this day and age no way.

i used to think 360 was better for ps3 also, till i watched more stuff on ps3 and realized that ps3 is wayyy better. it shows you more info about the file and while i like the segment skip on 360, ps3 lets you go to any point in the movie by time with the one option (the arrow) which if you just look how much is left in teh movie when you stop you can resume exact from there. its much more efficient then those 360 segments and then you have to ff or rw from one of those segments to where you left off or part you want to get to.

i even have the remote for 360 which i do like but ps3 even with the regular controller really is better for video playback.

i guess some ppl would deal with 2ch sound on 360 if they dont have a ps3 just to get x264 of some sort. especially for tv which there isn't much at all wmv and tv maybe ppl dont care quite as much about sound but still many wont do it. the sound is great on many shows and i hear stuff coming from diff speakers (7.1ch setup) i can't imagine stereo.

basically most movies come to wmv so only need for strictly 360 owners would be tv stuff and honestly x264 isnt worth it on ps3, i think ppl would rather do the lengthy encode to wmv then deal with 2ch sound. again just get a ps3 and have the majority of video covered between the 2 or get a media tank that plays everything.

btw there are some AVC(HD) rels floating around. most have nl subs though (hardcoded not unlike all the nl subbed wmvs that frustrate non dutch speaking ppl as the nl subs ruin the video)

but i have an anime one that is a .iso and i guess it meant to be burned to dvd5 to play in ps3 and some bluray players.

i'm goint to try to just open the iso and get the video file (i'm assuming .mts or .m2ts) and use tversity to let the ps3 see it

i'm hoping new version of tversity now lets it see .mts/.m2ts

its a pain to extract the .m2ts file though from these .iso that are already made with the bluray file system. since they did the work to make it that way i'm thinking of just making the disc but i'd really rather not. its the same thing you can do for your avchd camcorder footage. it comes with or you get a prog that lets you burn your hi def avchd camcorder footage to a regular dvd in bluray format (that will only work on bluray players) or as a normal dvd for reg dvd players though i guess it loses some hd that way.

i know ppl have been wanting to do this and mentioned in on here, burning the avc file output from mkv2vob to a dvd9 or whatever with teh bluray file system and all but honestly i'd rather just have the file and its not that big a deal. like i said there are camcorders and progs that give the option to burn your footage as an hd disc that will play in bluray players. its not real bluray obviously as its not on a bluray disc but it has the whole bluray file system and its hd so its kine of like pseudo bd or bluray lite.

problem is as much as some ppl may love these releases, its a pain to actually just extract the .m2ts file out if you dont need the rest and dont want to burn to dvdr.

i can't seem to find any program that will extract the main .m2ts AVC file from this .iso

its made to be burned to dvd5 and it has the bluray file system (bdmv, stream etc) but i dont want to burn it at all, i just wanet to extract the main .m2ts video file but no prog seems to be able to do it.

For in real time i mean, a 2 hour 720p file will take 2hour to encode. The quality is about the same as the Mpeg-2 from MKV2VOB. It has the same artifacts (blocking in deep reds).

I can obtain good mpeg files, the only problem now seems streaming them to ps3. I've tried, with the same results either Tversity (without transcoding obviously) and Wmp11 Sharing. The files play just well but sometimes i see great artifacts for the time of a fraction of a second. It has something to do with compression method or do you think that it's too difficult to stream over my wireless lan (54 mbit) an HD mpeg? Thanks

Your wireless has to be very good quality to stream HD.
You will never get actual 54mbit no matter what it says it is.
You need some software to monitor the actual transfer speed and move your ariels to get the best signal (media center does this for 360 but i dont know of any similar for the ps3)
Stream with wires if you can its much better.

As for xbox360 streaming there is no way to get 5.1 audio out of the 360 even on wmv.
The 360 converts all audio to stereo 2.0.

Well that just wont work.
You cannot mix NTSC video and PAL audio they are different speeds.

mkv2vob does not speed up or slow down audio to match your video, if your audio is wrong in the mkv, it will be wrong in the vob.

You need to use audio software to slow the speed of your audio and correct the pitch.

i was not aware of that, if only it converted aac 5.1 into dd then that would be great. they were the first to come out with divx so hopefully they listen to the users again and give 5.1 audio.

but eventually 360 will have a bluray drive and m2ts should be playable
