Lobuz:

Are you sure it was mpc's avi splitter reading the file? It should not load when detecting non interleaved avi. Also, after it starts running, it reads the file sequentially, without any seeking.

My mistake it wasn't internal avi splitter :o
But anyway, maybe it could be possible?

I've just checked the mpeg you uploaded. Tried it with a few different splitters and decoders, but when not played from the beginning they all just froze the picture (couldn't sync/catch on with the picture, sound still played). Once the internal mpeg2 decoder showed something else too (colored garbage ), but I guess only because it misread a start code and started decoding the wrong data.

It works with seeking using: InterVideo Audio and Video decoders and MPEG-2 Demultiplexer. It's from WinDVD 5.1.

Could it be possible to have an option to turn off all effects and | or styles,fonts for subtitles so ssa would behave like srt? Now the solution is to put 2 subtitle streams srt and ssa but when there is many languages it's unnecesary mess. Some people prefer simple form of subs or just don't have needed CPU power.

About AviSplitter: jumping over gap in avi .part file with AC3 still doesn't work. ;)

Lobuz

Hi This is my first post regarding MPC.
Gabest, I just tried your player - and thank you it is nice to use and plays most of my files without any problem.

BUT I have a problem with my XVID files. I use XVID (latest release) for TV-capture, but the playback by MPC is jerky, the sound is OK- but the picture "jumps". If I play it through Zoomplayer there is no problems - so what can I do to get it working in MPC?

Thank you
Steen

Gabest, could you add the following stream to the null text renderer? It's a script command for window media player that is used in some wmv files:

Stream 2

ok. may not be a great idea. But.

I was thinking somebody could make a very very small and tiny .exe file ( a bit like realsched.exe that comes with Realplayer ) that start when window start.

All this exe file does is open the smil file and pass on the parameter to Media PLayer classic. ( this could be a url or whatever )......

Would this solve the problem..??

sbp 2 possibilities

1. Old ffdshow that doesn't understand Packed Bitstream ?
2. You useing Overlay Mixer together with recent ffdshow ?

solutions:

1. Update to newest Athos Version
2. Change Renderer to VMR9 Renderless

Now that i have seen Outputs of a Nvidia Card: Geforce3 and Ati Radeon 9800 both with newest driver i can say that Nvidia Drivers have really bad problems in Overlay with Yv12 Upsampleing causeing color bleeding Nvidia users should allways use VMR9 Renderless and ATI users should allways use the Overlay Mixer (less CPU usage) only if Ati users need subbtitles they need to change to VMR7/VMR9 Renderless (more CPU usage).

@ Gabest

Hi Don't know if you care ;) but MPC is currently my standard media player for all formats :). Its variety of features, its stability, its ease of use .... Yeah I know how this sounds but what can I do?

But I also have a question to ask. Which version of Dvd2Avi project files does the d2vsource in MPC require?

Cheers to you, may you never loose the fun (is this English?) anyway you gettitiguess. :)

CruNcher - thanks for your suggestions.

1. I didn't know that I had to use FFDshow - so I tried to install the newest version - but no difference, the playback is still jumping.

2. I tried also to change overlay from defeault to WMR9 renderless - still no difference.

The sound is OK, but it seems li8ke the video comes ahead for sound and the suddently finds out - and it stops - for the sound to catch up.
If I play the videoclip in zoom-player everything is OK.

It is encoded using the newest XVID with packed bitstream, BVOB=2. Any suggestions.

PS: I thought that MPC didn't rely on any installed decoders - so therefore I didn't install the FFDshow - could I be missing anything else?

Thanks

You NEED install the codecs which is not in the internal filter list or You have unchecked ...
For Video I used to install: XviD 1.0, DivX 5.11, DivX 3.11alpha (it includes the Fraunhofer MP3 codec !) and nothing else ...
For Audio: I have unchecked the builtin ac3 and mpeg audio filters , and isntall the AC3filter 0.70

Hi thank you all for your help.

@CruNcher: The FFD-show I installed was: "ffdshow-20040312.exe" is that the correct version?

@chros: I didn't check or uncheck anything - so does that mean that I'm using the build in decoder or not?
Now I have installed ffdshow and also XVID, so do you advise me to uncheck the AVI files or not..?

Thank you

Go to View -> Options -> Keys
Then go to Play/Pause and replace in the mouse column "Left down" with "none" or whatever you want.

Do you plan spliting today's EXE into 'basic player' and one or more DLL libraries with filters?

I am not sure which MPEG2 decoder is used in MPC for viewing of DVDs but the only feature I am missing is a slowdown option that would be able to slowdown playrate by 4% thus rendering PAL DVDs back to the real speed of 24FPS. I now that WinDVD has this feature, but I was wondering if it is possible to implement it in MPC MPEG2 decoder?

@gabest
The only feature I am missing is related to RealVideo Decoder.
I know it isn't possible to wrap real dlls for decoding RV10 but it could be great if you added RV10 and RV20 decoding from libavcodec in RealVideo Decoder(like ffdshow does).
This way I won't have to install ffdshow just for decoding RV10.Also even if I install ffdshow for decoding MPEG-4 video,I won't have to decode RV10 with the postprocessing filters I have added for MPEG-4 video.(I don't think RealVideo needs postprocessing filtering).

Nice. AAC is now included in MPC. But, built-in MPEG splitter is still buggy. It thinks .MPG contain subtitles and it's slow on seeking.

Soon we won't need any codec :D Good job Gabest :D

I want to thank you for your excellent Producer GUI.I'm using RealAnime for all my anime encodings!

MPC plays .rm and .rmvb with directshow by default.It doesn't play them with RealMedia engine by default.
This means that it will use RealVideo Decoder(it will wrap RealOne DLLs) and not RealOne DLLs directly for .rm and .rmvb extensions.
Right now:
RealVideo Decoder
RV10 doesn't work,even if you have RealOne DLLs installed.You HAVE to use ffdshow
RV20 works perfectly with RealOne DLLs
RV30 works perfectly with RealOne DLLs
RV40 works perfectly with RealOne DLLs

What I would like to see:
RealVideo Decoder
RV10 works perfectly with libavcodec
RV20 works perfectly with RealOne DLLs
RV30 works perfectly with RealOne DLLs
RV40 works perfectly with RealOne DLLs

MPC doesn't decode RealVideo,but it could:D

Got some kind of problem with new version of MPC (6.4.8.1). When i try to enter the File menu player just hang up and wont respond to the close command, have to use task manager 3 times to kill it ;) All other menus works correctly. Hi,

I've got a few DVDs that are non-seekable, and when I jump to one of the chapters, the current playing time is reset to zero, so it's something like 00:00:00 / 01:30:00, and the seek slider moves to the left end. This doesn't happen in PowerDVD.

I noticed that mpc since 6.4.8.0 fails to play a matroska file when there is a mono HE-AAC file as the "top" audio track. Hi, @Gabest,

I have just tried yor player and I'm impressed. Thanks! So far it is the only player I've found to play muxed subs on a DVD.

I'm experiencing a problem though. My encode is a non-standard DVD, patched with DVD Patcher. It is 528x480, 16:9. I like to use this "weird" frame size because it plays perfectly on 4:3 and 16:9 TVs (first one is height-shinked by 3/4 by my standalone, second one is width-expanded by 4/3 to give 704x480).

Subtitles play if selected (not by default), only they are not centered, but shifted to the right. I guess this has to do with the non-standard width I use, but I prefered to post it anyway in case you may have a fix.

Thanks a lot again.

Hi :)
Starting at 6.4.8.1, MPC cannot playback such a clip whose framerate is generated @ 120fps (to deal with hybrid sources). Instead of displaying normal images, MPC delivered blocky/broken ones (as well as incorrect lumianance/chrominance maybe?)

6.4.8.0 and a few previous versions(that i tested) have no such problems.

Other informations that might be concerned:

The clip is encoded by XviD and decoded by xvid.ax of XviD 1.0 RC3, (no ffdshow, divx..ect)

System: Windows XP with SP1 English version + DirectX 9.1b

Video Card: Nvidia GF3 Ti @ forceware 56.64

This has been reproduced on my friend's machine, which has roughly the same configuration as mine.

for those of you who might wanna take a look at the clip, you can dl it from here (ftp://temp:temp@nemolus.kmip.net:309/b0rken.avi) (available just temporally) :D

Any suggetion is apprectiated. :D

I don't think this is my own fault, but you never know.

Don't remember which was my previous version, but this concerns 6.4.8.2:
-It stopped playing anamorphic xvid (with AR flag) correctly.

Sorry if this has been brought up before. Most people abbreviate aspect ratio with AR, and that's not searchable.

Edit:
I uninstalled and reinstalled koepi's xvid binaries and standalone directshow filter several times (and rebooted too). The third time I reinstalled the xvid binaries (but not the ds filter, strangely enough), the AR played correctly again.
Mind you, it played correctly all the time in Zoom Player v3.30.

I yust found some bugs:
AAC is not decoded correctly from MP4 with the new internal AAC-Decoder.
I have 3ivx D4 4.5 installed and the mp4 plays fine with internal AAC decoder disabled using the CoreAAC DirectShow-Filter to decode AAC.
With AAC decoder activated I get no sound at all, also the AAC Decoder and the Default DirectSound Device are shown in the filter list.
The audio is simple LC-AAC ~100kbps VBR. Error occurs in all versions with AAC Decoder (6.4.8.1, 6.4.8.2), at least I canīt remember that it ever worked.

RTSP/PNM source changes Wave-Volume in system to 0.
When playing streamed RealMedia the wave-volume is set to zero in system, that you have no sound until you increase it again.

It now also contains a MPEG Splitter, but ES MPEG files are still parsed with the M$ DirectShow parser, with the result that the length of VBR mp3 files is still not shown correctly.Also there are some minor bugs, I have to say itīs the best player out there. Thank you very much for coding it and spending time on it. But I also have some feature requests, which would make MPC even better :D:
Internal MPEG-4 Splitter: This would be great, also the 3ivx Splitter works fine, but it isnīt really free.

Internal MPEG Audio decoding: MAD is a very high quality and fast decoder and it is GPLed. M$ MPEG Audio Decoder has some problems with non-standard (224kbps mono) mp2 files for example, and Iīve I remember correctly it also couldnīt play MPEG-2 Layer I/II.

A installer version, with language selection, automatic system selection (unicode or not), selectable extension take-over etc. This is very useful for newbies having no idea how to setup something.Ok, thatīs it. Yust a little question: Do you use FAAD 2.0 release or the latest CVS version? If you use 2.0 release, does this version already support the new tool called Parametric Stereo?

@S_O for RTSP/PNM source changes Wave-Volume in system to 0.
This is not a bug of MPC.This also happens when I use other players with RealMedia content such as jetAudio Player.I had to override the existing pnen3260.dll from the common folder with an older one to make it work again.
An internal MPEG-4 Splitter that could split nerodigital and BIFS subtitles would be really great!

S_O
1st April 2004, 01:33
Yust another feature request: By reading some posts here, seems that people doesnīt really like ffdshow. What about internal MPEG-4 Video decoding? With MP4-Parser and AAC-Decoder MPC would become a stand-alone MP4-Player :). If you donīt like libavcodec and xvid as decoder, did you had a look at Skalīs MPEG-4 Codec? It is an active project (last update 31th march 2004) and decoder seems to be fast (468fps 352x240 MPEG-4 ASP and 243fps 640x480 MPEG-4 SP / 1GHz Athlon without display) and supports nearly all MPEG-4 features and doesnīt seem to have problems with the 6of9-Matrix:
Decoder features:

* I/P/B/S VOP, with interlacing.
* H263 and MPEG4 quantization (+custom matrix).
* Quarter Pixel
* Reduced Resolution.
* GMC (3 warp points)
* possibly sliced output.
* Debug and trace facilities.
* NEWPRED and resyncs won't crash :)
* Partial MPEG1/2 support (frame only)

Not supported: Data partitioning, reversible VLC.
http://skal.planet-d.net/coding/mpeg4codec.html
Only problem, itīs not GPL, itīs somekind of home-made open-source license.
@S_O for RTSP/PNM source changes Wave-Volume in system to 0.
This is not a bug of MPC.This also happens when I use other players with RealMedia content such as jetAudio Player.I had to override the existing pnen3260.dll from the common folder with an older one to make it work again.Does that mean MPC uses the entire Real engine for rtsp streaming? I think to download a new version of a codec is not a problem for any user, mainly if we taking consideration that the decoder part of all of the codecs are free ...
