phrentec: Yea, already using upx. It would be 2 megs otherwise.

oh okay good thanks to UPX. :)

Also i can no longer figure out how to disable the logofile either through the registry or the ini. i put logofile=0 under [Settings] but it still shows it up, i also tried several other ways but still no luck. any idea how?
thanks.

Hm, it still works for me. Aren't you using a translated version where maybe this string was also replaced?

phrentec

ah nevermind it works. it was because i renamed mplayerc.exe to mpc.exe and so i kept trying to get it to edit/read from mplayerc.ini but where it was supposed to be written to and read from mpc.ini.
problem solved. thanks.

@Gabest

I posted this a while ago but I didn't get an answer. Is there a way to adjust brightness/gamma/contrast in MPC? When watching DVD's on my crappy monitor, its really necessary to increase the gamma or brightness to a suitable level for viewing.

gabest
3rd August 2003, 09:57
Only through the decoder filter, when it offers the needed controls on its property page. Or if you run the renderer with an overlay surface, you can usually change that globally from the display settings.

@Gabtest

A question for you please.

I got the subtitle option to work in MPC. I loaded an avi and it works fine, however if I load a .vob the subtitle options become greyed out.

Am I right in thinking MPCs subtitle function doesn't work on .vob files?

If it doesn't will you be adding support for this combination in a future release?

I am using the PowerDVD XP 4 filters and lateset MPC 6.4.5.9, VMR9 renderless mode.

Thanks

gabest
3rd August 2003, 10:40
Is vmr9 renderless loaded at all for vobs? Could you please check it in the filter menu?

Coroner
3rd August 2003, 11:38
Wow, that was quick!

I have Video Mixing Renderer 9 in the filter list and ticked. It is at defaults with Set merit: 00200000

The following is showing below in the media type window

MEDIATYPE_Video
|
--Any type

Is the above correct?

Thanks

gabest
3rd August 2003, 12:04
No, not that filter list, I mean in the menu, under play/filters/... You can also force a renderer to be loaded if you add it in the options, but that's not the prefered way. To operate in "renderless" mode and allow subtitling it has to be initiliezed properly, so renderers must be chosen from the combo box at options/playback/videorenderer.

Coroner
3rd August 2003, 12:28
Sorry,

In menu Play=>Filters I have the following listed

M-Audio Revolution
Video Renderer
Audio Switcher
Overlay Mixer2 (greyed out)
Cyberlink Audio Decoder
Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder
MPEG-2 Splitter
D:\DVD_VIDEO\VIDEO_TS\GITS SAC EP 1.VOB (greyed out)

I could not see VMR9.

In menu View=>Options=>Playback
Output is has the following settings
Zoom 100% Auto-zoom (ticked)
Video: Video Mixing Renderer 9 (Renderless)
Audio: M-Audio Revolution (00200000)

Open settings has the following settings
Use worker thread to construch filter graph (ticked)
Report pins which fail to render (ticked)
Auto-load audio files (ticked)
Auto-load subtitles (ticked)

The subtitles work for avi files just not vob files
Does the above information help?
Thanks.

Interesting... Could you send this version of cyberlink's mpeg2 decoder to my email? "clvsd.ax" is the file in question.

Gabest, I sent it to the email address at gabest.org

gabest
3rd August 2003, 13:41
Ok, the answer is simple. It won't connect to anything else than the overlay mixers (normal or 2). I tried dvobsub, vmr7, vmr9, even the null renderer. There must be a simple check for the connecting filter's clsid, but I can't get around this I'm afraid. Use an older version, those work nicely.

Coroner
3rd August 2003, 13:55
Yes, I tried all those too! Well in a way I'm glad you couldn't get it to work - because it means I'm not going mad.

You mean an older version of the cyberlink decoder?

Or perhaps a different one? windvd, theatertek or something?

gabest
3rd August 2003, 14:01
Yes, I use 3.5.0.1011. Looks like the 4.* series is not very friendly with other apps.

edit: with newer windvd filters I can only see blackness, but nvidia's was quite ok even if it showed me a BSOD a few times :)

Coroner
3rd August 2003, 14:13
Thanks for the help. I'll give it a go with the 3.5.0.1011 and see what happens.

Gabest,

Which version of Powerdvd has that filter?
The filter in Powerdvd 3.0 is version 2, the subtitles work but the play back looks awful, weird vertical bar atifacts.
Powerdvd 4 XP was the one I was using but didn't work.

Thanks

I was looking through the posts and noticed 6.4.5.9 was released. I was wondering if it fixed the OGM subtitle issue, though the changelog made no mention of it. I'm happy to say that, at least for me, VSfilter is not necessary to view OGMs with subtitles. From the changelog, all I can say is it might be related to manipulating styles on subtitles, or it might just be one of those bug fixes that don't get mentioned in changelogs.

Thanks for the active development, this is awesome.

Now, I still just have to get used to turning off antialiasing when I watch a video. :)

Nice job on the new version. Especially cool is how RM now hits my overlay catcher :) (I think... haven't done too much testing)

But, now I have a new task for you! I like listening to digitallyimported.com's radio, and I figured I'd run it through MPC...

First, it says it has an unrendered pin (ASF URL Handler::Out) when I put the ASX file into it.

Also... it doesn't show the information about the stream. Just "Playing", where mplayer2 will show "Clip: Vocal Trance @ DigitallyImported.com" "Author:..." etc etc. So now see if you can get it to show the stream info! :)

There's a bug in the newest release x.x.x.9 (aug 1):
Shift + <- and -> : not always working (going to keyframes)
Shift + mouse on the slider : never working (going to keyframes)

it was good in the x.x.x.8

gabest

AtomicDalton: Ah, I always forgot about the rest of changes :) Once I thought it would be cool to not forward the text samples to the internal script command renderer which is usually connected after mpc's subtitle grabber filter as the stream terminator (the other could be dvobsub), but I forgot that if ISCR doesn't receive one sample it won't let the other renderers go on either. In the end I made another filter just to have a proper ending of text streams and now no more problems...

ryouga: There is a little bug in mpc since .7 or .8 what prevents opening asf/asx off the web when it has a file extension. Don't know if that is the prob here. The meta information is not displayed because I don't know asx very well, I just check the refs and add the files on the playlist.

chros: With the new avi splitter it may not always work, but next time it will do better I hope, even the matroska and realmedia splitter will have this new interface. On the other hand I had to remove the old key frame searcher thread because user complained that it puts too much stress on some cdroms when loading an avi...

I'm not sure if this is asking too much but do you think you can implement this feature into MPC? I like how TCMP have the ability to adjust brightness in the program and it would be awesome if MPC have this ability as well :)

Not unless I would be using the overlay mixer exclusively, which I'm trying to avoid since the beginning, even though it is still selectable.

'it would be good if mplayerc showed the video and audio bitrate of the movie, including the bitrate of real media files.' and quicktime files if possible. also so that one wouldn't have to keep pulling out the calc.exe to figure out the bitrate.

Oh well, one more.......i just uninstalled Tiny Personal Firewall 4.5 and installed the new one (5.0) and when i try to open any file asociated with MPC, MPC shuts down.
I burnt MPC in a cd with an avi that i made, and made an autorun.inf file that calls a .bat file........when i insert the cd in the drive and MPC should start, a message box appears saying "Abnormal program termination"........if i copy all the cd to the hdd, and run the bat file, movie plays ok...

Any Ideas?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Gabest,
I think OSD has been a feature request before. Since I started watching TV with mplayerc again I miss seeing the Volume level and channel Number, so I was thinking this morning whether it would be very hard to implement the on screen display using the players subtitling engine. Either having > (play) and ||||….. (Volume) displayed or even making a new font.
Of course this is just an idea and I have no clue if this is possible or not.

thanks, jonas

Yes OSD would be nice, this could also make it possible for OSD menus. Like the filemanager OSD in zoomplayer where you can browse to mediafiles, very useful when you use the computer as TVout only with remote.

I totally agree.

However I don't think comparing to Zoomplayer is good: all of zoomplayer OSD, cropping and aspect ratio correction does not affect the video overlay, which means if you want to have the best tv output possible and use DVDMax (Matrox) or Theatre (ATI) features, the OSD is not visible on the TV and the image size and aspect ratio remains unchanged. IMHO zoomplayer is one of the worse players for these reasons.

I think the key is to use the subtitling engine since it is displayed in the overlay.

Have a look at Crystal Player from http://www.crystalplayer.com if you are looking for an OSD on TV.

indeed crystalplayer has some nice features but did you ever watched the memory footprint only @ startup is ridicolus and if you play it fills even more.

Didnt know that, i`ve pretty much only dealt with nvidia cards and all has been fine with zoomplayer. But since mpc also plays .rm / .qt and zoomplayer has gone the payroute instead of the opensource route, ive switched.

Another feature that would be immensely useful is the ability to play common image files directly. Like bin files & img files.

I have a problem with external subtitles while watching DVD as well. I tried NVDVD 2.55, WinDVD 4.0.65.0 and 5.0.26.23, PowerDVD 4.00.2417 and 5.0.0.602 codecs, but with little success. PowerDVD codecs doesnt allow to load external subtitles (option is greyed out), with other codecs subtitle loads but it never shows up (tried all video modes from overlay to vmr9). What am I doing wrong?

Another question - I have problems with NVDVD codec. The picture is too bright and misplaced. Does anyone else have those problems?

I think the solution could be done by Gabest in his own oryginal great style. That's by making own MPEG2 video DirectShow decoder from sources of MPEG2Dec3. It's quite fast on modern systems. So should work without problems.:D

How about a logo contest??
A while ago I created a new logo for private use on my own computer, so it matches the other icons on XP better. I created a mockup of how it could be used by MPC.

http://www.creatype.nl/mpc/mpc.jpg

The .ico file, which contains icons in 8 bit and 24 bit and has 16, 32 and 48 pixels versions can be downloaded here (http://www.creatype.nl/mpc/mpc.ico). The bitmap I used as the logo can be downloaded here (http://www.creatype.nl/mpc/mpc.bmp).

As you can see, it is inspired by the old MPC icon and complies with the Microsoft icon design guidelines for XP.

First of all, thanks for all the positive replies. Although I did some icons and artwork for my open source project (not av related), I am not a professional icon creator.

Could you do file icons as well?
The mockup (http://www.creatype.nl/mpc/mpc.jpg) is updated to include a general file icon. The icon can also be downloaded as an ico file here (http://www.creatype.nl/mpc/mpc-doc.ico). Just like before, the file icon is complient with the Microsoft XP guidelines and should fit in nicely.

I do have some plans to create new icons for Real and QuickTime, but I am currently too busy for other icons. Perhaps in a week or two I have more time.

Another point to note is that it does play decrypted vobs on my hard drive, although with no sound, after a simliar message.

So I guess the built-in mpeg1/mpeg2 decoder is only the video portion of the relevant standards. All we need now is an in-built ac3/dts decoder :)
