Usage: could be VERY useful for i.e. video playback at conventions, conferences etc., when you have computer playing back a video and don't want to show all the user interface on the overhead projector.

i.e. opening files and playlists remotely (but should have a possibility to pass a filename remotely); and remotely syncing audio/video (it's quite embarassing if it gets out of sync in front of 100 people... MPC has the audio delay correction mappable to keyboard, but doing it remotely is even better).

But for it to be really useful, it should be possible to open a file remotely; and it should be possible to limit IPs that have access (although that is maybe better left for firewall app)

I could easily show a file browser/chooser window, that's not a problem at all.

@Gabest: Your OGM splitter implemented in MPC, works fine. But searching (a jumping in files) is little more slow.
Can you implement fast key-frames seeking like to original oggDS, please?:)

Animaniac

Does the Ogg splitter work with Ogg FLAC and CoreFLAC?

Redbird
4th December 2003, 21:12
Searching in OGM files works fine to minute 21:00 after that it takes LONG time to jump anyware (even 21:10).
I use latest version of mplayerc with div3/ogg (corevorbis).
P4 2.0, ATI 8500.

Loopback
4th December 2003, 23:13
Yes, I'm confirm that Redbird say, searching for times more then 21 min takes a very long time. This is for 700 mb movie (XviD, Vorbis). But other, 100 mb 24 min file works fine at any point.

Second strange thing: OGMs plays a bit jerky, no matter which Vorbis decoder is registered (or no one at all). No such problem with old splitter.

And third, mainly cosmetic: with the new splitter it is not possible anymore to use Navigate menu for switching streams.
BTW it's possible to make this functionality the same for all formats with multiple streams (OGM, MKV and maybe even AVI)?

@Gabest: I got it to work by hand and in vb.net. But I couldn't in PHP... so it's not a problem of MPC, only of my lack of skills, don't worry. =D

@chros and gabest: Well, i'm using it to program my mediabox software... I'm making that now clichê Epia-Computer/Media Player to play mpeg4 movies and stuff. So I have this prog I created that allows me to choose the movie and play it. The first thing I tried was to display the video myself. It's not so hard to do basic stuff with DirectX. BUT MPC is soo much better than anything I could ever do (hardcoded splittttterrrs), that I decided to use it. So I could control it in different ways.. There are other options, but tcp/ip control is so much cleaner and smooth. First I open MPC with command-line + path of file to open and then I go webby from there.
That's it.

And BTW, I agree with Yusaku. It would be nice if a could pass the filename as a variabel to some sort of then Open File command.

In addition to slow seeking, the built-in ogg splitter can't make DVobsub ( VSFilter 2.31 ) load automatically ( whereas the oggDS makes it load ).

Gabest,

First, Thanks for wonderful MPC.

Second, There are some problems in rendering subtitles in 6.4.7.1 (at least for me),
One is the size of subtitles displayed are large when playing a SRT muxed mkv file.( Here I'm using internal subtilte renderer ). The other problem is the internal subtitle renderer is "On" by default. i.e if I use Dvobsub, then both renders the same subtitle and same subtitle is displayed twice. Therefore I always disable the internal subtitle renderer. But on re-start this renderer is again enabled automatically. Can this be disabled by default ?

I'm using 704X272 muxed mkv with ac3 and SRT, playing with VMR9 renderless, in texture surfaces and render video in 3D, using Geforce 2MX400 AGP on a 800x600 monitor. (I have installed directx9 and is on Windows XP Pro)

I have a suggestion too. Can a "default button" be added to restore all settings to default and cleaning registry/ini entries.
:)Thanks.

Plz let me note that this behavior is rather preferable for me, who use VMR9 mode, because of the reason Tuning mentioned: I prefer the internal sub renderer, so DVobsub (autoloaded) is needless, and it is preferable that what is not needed here won't be autoloaded. Altho, these are two sides of the same coin :)

Liisachan : I would love to use VMR9, but I can't, since I've a dual head, and strangely, because MPC can't stay in fullscreen mode if it is on the first display ( GF4 TI 4200, latest drivers ). Moreover, if you uncheck 'Embedded' inside VSFilter, you won't have conflict between VSFilter and the internal subtitles renderer while playing back OGM and MKV.

I'm thinking of using the http thing as a bandwidth extender
for webpages. Instead of showing small and heavy compressed
streams, I insert a dvd, the page knows where to jump to and
mpc plays it.
Is it possible to jump to specfic titlesets and pgcs, like mp9 can?
Or better can mpc run inside a browser with same features?

Gabest, thanks for this great app. (wha, not very original ;))

i've experienced a strange behavior though. i've searched the topic for it, but i can't find anything...

the problem occurs with every dvd with a lpcm audio track. when i load the entire dvd (via VIDEO_TS.IFO), the audio track is rendered through an ac3 filter. but, if i load only VTS_01_1.VOB, the audio track is correctly rendered through the correct filter.

so it seems that the dvd navigator always reports that the stream is ac3. while the mpeg2 splitter reports it correctly.

i've found a workaround using filter overides by completely disabling my ac3filter, but it's not very 'elegant' ;)

is it a problem on my side or not ?

@gabest
thx for fixing VRM9 renderless finally the mode where no color bleeding (Mpeg-4) occours is fixed :)

gabest
5th December 2003, 22:11
Animaniac: Don't know about FLAC in ogg, but now the extra bytes after the wave header are passed via the media type, that shouldn't be the problem anymore. (note: this is also true for the video but the dshow ogm muxer doesn't save those and so if wmv9 doesn't work, this it the only reason)

HarryM, Redbird, Loopback: Well, I made one bigger ogm and while debugging it I found a nasty overflow bug in my calculations. This means, in the current version seeking can end up anywhere in the stream and it is highly possible that the "preroll" decoding will start way behind the last keyframe. The effect is almost the same as seeking in a file with no keyframes.

Loopback: I'm going to listen more carefully to vorbis files, most files I tested were videos where I didn't pay attention to the sound too much. Streams with the new splitter will show up under the play menu because the audio tracks are plugged into the audio switcher and the subs into the internal subtitle filter. The navigate menu was only used for dvds originally.

Manao: I think dvobsub is picky about which splitter it connects to..., I must have forgotten to update the list of filter CLSIDs ;)

Tuning: "Large" is relative and the font size is adjustable :) Autoloading of the subtitles can be disabled in mpc and dvobsub both.

Liisachan: Sorry, this was a bug and I've just fixed it :D But what I said to Tuning is still true.

Manao (2): It will stay in fullscreen on the second, but probably you already know that and I just can't remember what specific prob you had with vmr9 and g400.

vion11: mpc won't run inside the browser, and it can jump on menus, titles, chapters.

Coyote: The menu might have ac3 sound (is there any menu?), but I can easily imagine that the dvd nav filter starts out with some default parameters for the audio too. For the video I know it will always create a 720x480 type and if the dimension were different it would dynamically change the format with the decoder. (This is the reason why dvds won't work with the old renderer, the decoder just can't set the new resolution)

CruNcher: Yea, though it is still a driver problem, newer ones report they can convert yv12 to rgb but fail with the right colors. For me it is still ugly in the normal windowed mode of vmr7 or vmr9 when ffdshow outputs yv12.

Manao

It will stay in fullscreen on the second, but probably you already know thatYep, but you speak of it as if you could do nothing about it ? Is it the case ?I just can't remember what specific prob you had with vmr9 and g400Never had a g400, you must confuse me with somebody else ( which is easy, seeing the length of that thread :) )Anyway, thanks a lot for developping these wonderful player / filters and still being so available.

Ah, it was a "GF4 TI 4200", sorry :)

Coyote
5th December 2003, 22:28
Gabest:
in the first dvd showing this prob, there isn't any menu, the whole dvd (including the little warning at the beginnning) is using lcpm.

the second one uses ac3 for the warning & the menu while it uses lpcm for the movie. as you can expect, i've got sound in the warning and the menu, but nothing in the movie.

I'm going to listen more carefully to vorbis files, most files I tested were videos where I didn't pay attention to the sound too much.

Sorry Gabest, my english let me down again :( Indeed I mean jerky video playback, even when sound output set to "null". It looks like movie jumps for few frames forward every few seconds.

Thanks

gabest
5th December 2003, 23:49
Coyote: Then it is possible that the dvd navigator filter always creates an ac3 media type first, or it just sets all of them including ac3 too, and ac3filter connects to it first because it has highest merit.

Loopback: Ok, then I'm going to watch out for the timestamps of the video, maybe they aren't always perfectly continuous... Frames in ogg aren't all timestamped only every last(!) one on one page, and I have to find out the intermediate times by increasing the last known by 1/fps.

gabest

Kurtnoise13: Hm, did I promise implementing this some time ago? Maybe I did :D Anyway, it sounds possible the same way I save and load the starting position for the bookmarks.

Thanks gabest, I didn't realize that there is possibility of internal subttle resizer. Can this internal subtitle renderer made off by default ?
Btw, what you think on a universal "default button" ?.

One problem which related to sound, this happens when using ac3 filter in analogue mode. ( I mean no SPDIF). That is the volume slider doesn't work for rear speakers. For instance if I decrease volume the front speakers volume is only decresed, the rear still sounds @ same volume. Can this be fixed ?

Thanks

didn't found a way to open chapter 12 in title 3
with the web-interface. With menu works, so is it
right it simply lacks the command/option?

How can I upload my own pages on the webserver?

gabest
6th December 2003, 14:05
Tuning: Since the video rendere is set to "system default" on the first run of mpc, I think the autoloading of the subs is off by default :) But I don't know why the volume level of the rear speakers can't be changed for you. I set one volume level on the audio render and directsound should apply that on all channels. This is something very low level I cannot control.

vion11: I only said it was possible inside mpc, but not via http, there is no command implemented for that yet :) "Uploading" will work once the specs of the available commands and the possibly returned info fiels are put down into a file, then I can start implementing them and you will be able to prepare template html pages to be served from some root directory next from mpc.

Thanks gabest for the info. I think then something is screwed up in my system. I'm always getting auto loaded subtitle with internal rendere. ( I must have done something stupid in config, causing the renderer on by default )
Finally one more question, I want to restore the mpc settings ( whole ) to its default. So what should I do. (For the time being i don't want to re-install windows to get the default). Can a regisrty deletion makes MPC "factory default" ;).

Btw, the rear channel problem is only applicable to ac3filter. The coreAAC is working fine and i can control whole speakers volume by moving the slider. Therefore I think the ac3filter is causing the problem.

Thanks :)

Not sure about http possibilities. Can I send commands
to local mpc from webpage running local from another server?
If yes that should work right now, any example available?

If you're asking if you can control MPC from another page (not the local one, that mpc creates), the answer is yes. You can pass POST commands to the MPC server.

Everytime my Windows ME (-_-) decides to die, i have to get another windows media classic. the first time, no problem with the newest release (6/10ish date). Now, everytime i try and get the new one, it has a runtime.dll error when i try to start it.

Error:
Runtime Error!

The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in a unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for futher information.

Any ideas?
And i know.. Windows ME is the devil....

I will more testing tomorrow, but seems problem with the jerky playing is gone, as well as seeking problem. Thank you! From now internal Ogg Splitter become really useful!

Only one more interface bug I've found for now. I have "Remember last window size" disabled. Now, if I maximize player and exit, next start MPC opens maximized. But If I just change window size all works as before. This bug appear only in the current version 6.4.7.2.

Not a bug, a new feature :P I read couple of times that mpc won't rememeber its maximized state when this option is on, now it does. But it should also still remember the normal window size it had before maximization.

Ok now that vsfilter connects to built-in ogm spliter, i supose that i should be able to see ogm-subtitles in the same way i see matroska subtitles (with system default render). Am I wrong?
Now the only way that works for me is working with Output/VMR7/9 (which is very slow on my system :( Am I doing something worng?

Thank you all and take care

¿?¿? I´m sorry but i don´t know what are you talking about... :)

BTW, I´ve seen that configuring VobSub to be loaded always, the problem is solved, it´s suposed to be in that way or it should appear when configuring "When needed"??

gabest
8th December 2003, 15:40
There is a checkbox somewhere saying "show OSD ...", if you turn that on dvobsub will print some info onto the video, including the incoming subtitles.

"it´s suposed to be in that way or it should appear when configuring "When needed"??"

"load when needed" + "embeded" should make it load also.

Alxemi
8th December 2003, 16:24
Here they doesn´t appear with "load when needed" + "embeded" :(
Now I found the OSD, but i cannot use it with OGMs because i have no vobsub with OGMs.

You want me to check "Load Always" and see the queued output in vobsubOSD with an OGM or leave it "When needed" and see the output with a matroska file??

gabest : thanks for the quick fixes. BTW, did you change anything in the AVISplitter between 6.4.7.1 and 6.4.7.2, because I had a pair of AVIs muxed with AC3 that didn't play with 6.4.7.1 unless I disable the internat AVISplitter, and which now work flawlessly.

Oh, also, I can't choose the ogg track with the internal OGM Splitter ( greyed inside the menus )

And finally, why can't ( or don't ) you make DVobSub and MPC interact, in order DVobSub to be as easy to use as the internal subtitles renderer ?

[Edit:] BTW, Gabest, there is a bug report on TextSub on Avisynth's Development forum.

I'm trying out your player.

I tried some small clips and they were ok.

I tried a DVD (the matrix - region 2) and it wouldn't play (copy-protection error).. I presume it won't play most discs then...
Or am I wrong.. Shouldn't it find the WinDVD 4 (InterVideo) drivers which I have installed?
